Abstract
Background: In the Lombardy Region, Italy, HPV vaccination is recommended and offered free of charge to 12-years-old males since 2017. The expected vaccination thresholds are still far to be reached. Methods: A cross-sectional survey to investigate parents’ attitudes towards the HPV vaccine and knowledge about HPV was administered to parents of boys aged 6 to 18 years attending a large pediatric hospital for outpatient specialistic evaluations. Two parallel multiple logistic regression analyses were conducted to estimate the odds ratios (ORs) and the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for attitude towards HPV vaccination and perceived need for more information about HPV vaccination. Results: A positive attitude towards HPV vaccination was found in 74% of interviewed parents. Knowledge of HPV, having a generally positive attitude toward vaccination, and mothers filling in the survey were positively associated with a positive attitude to the HPV vaccine. Parents’ perceived need for more information about HPV vaccination was positively associated with the child’s age, general positive attitude toward vaccination, Christian religion, and positive attitude toward HPV vaccination; knowing that HPV vaccination is free of charge significantly reduced the risk of asking for more information on HPV vaccination. Conclusions: The majority of parents of male children and adolescents in our study have a positive attitude toward HPV vaccination. Attitude toward HPV vaccination and perceived need for more information on HPV vaccination were directly related to a positive attitude toward vaccines in general. In addition, knowledge of HPV and related pathologies favors a positive attitude toward HPV vaccination. Future health programs should target an even wider diffusion of evidence-based information on vaccines in general and on the HPV vaccine in young males, to support a positive attitude toward vaccines in the general population.

Abstract
Background: HPV vaccination of both girls and boys can protect against infection and eliminate the risk for HPV-associated cancer. Due to a common misconception that the virus only poses risks to women, vaccine coverage is suboptimal among men in many countries. It is urgent to identify barriers to vaccination of boys and men. Methods: We conducted a narrative review of publications examining attitudes and beliefs regarding HPV vaccination for boys and young men. The electronic databases searched were PubMed, PsychInfo and Scopus (December 2020; last update July 2021). A total of 103 original articles were included in the final analysis. Results: The central barriers against vaccination of boys and men are: (1) lack of knowledge, (2) vaccine hesitancy in general, (3) lack of recommendation from and/or discussions with healthcare providers, (4) cost and logistics, and (5) the idea that HPV vaccination may promote promiscuity. Men who have sex with men and families belonging to ethnic minorities express a need for information tailored to their situation. Conclusions: Boys should be included in national immunization programs and men should also be offered catch-up vaccinations. Future studies should focus on addressing vaccine hesitancy and developing interventions to promote pan-gender HPV vaccination.

Abstract
The concept of Vaccine Hesitancy has begun to appear in the scientific landscape, referring to the reluctance of a growing proportion of people to accept the vaccination offer. A variety of factors were identified as being associated with vaccine hesitancy but there was no universal algorithm and currently there aren’t any established metrics to assess either the presence or impact of vaccine hesitancy. The aim of this study was to systematically review the published questionnaires evaluating parental vaccine hesitancy, to highlight the differences among these surveys and offer a general overview on this matter. This study offers a deeper perspective on the available questionnaires, helping future researches to identify the most suitable one according to their own aim and study setting.

Abstract
The human papillomavirus (HPV) causes several cancers and genital warts among sexually active adolescent and young adult (AYA) males. Quadrivalent HPV vaccines were approved for use in the AYA male population in 2010, but vaccination rates have plateaued at around 10%-15%. A better understanding of the barriers AYA male patients, their parents, and their health care providers (HCPs) experience with respect to vaccination uptake is necessary for tailoring interventions for this population. A literature search was conducted through the PubMed and PsycINFO databases in October 2017. Studies were included if they specified at least one barrier to vaccination uptake in AYA males. Studies were excluded if they did not focus on AYA males, their parents, or their HCP; were conducted outside the United States; or were published before 2010. A total of 23 studies were reviewed, and analysis found that these three groups (i.e., AYA males, parents, and HCPs) had significantly different concerns regarding vaccination. The identified themes included the lack of HPV vaccine awareness/information, misinformation about HPV, lack of communication, financial issues relating to uptake, demographic/perceived social norms, and sexual activity. Health care professionals working directly with AYA males and their parents should provide an open route of communication regarding these sensitive issues, and further educate families on the importance of HPV vaccines in reducing the incidence of certain cancers among men in later adulthood.

Abstract
Background: To assess the knowledge and attitudes of middle school students toward vaccination, we measured their understanding of vaccine safety and effectiveness, expectations for communication with heath care providers, and their desired role in the vaccination decision-making process. Methods: A cross-sectional, self-administered survey was conducted among seventh and eighth grade students in a middle school in Upstate New York. Bivariate analyses were conducted to identify differences in perspective by gender, grade, and attitudes toward vaccination. Results: Of 346 students attending class, 336 (97.1%) participated. The majority of respondents were White (71.3%) and 11 to 13 years of age (78.2%). Boys were significantly more likely than girls to perceive vaccines to be very safe (48.4% vs 30.2%, p < 0.01) and very effective (49.7% vs 29.0%, p < 0.01). Approximately one-third of adolescents reported having a say in the decision to be vaccinated and a quarter of students expressed a desire for specific information about vaccines. Conclusions: This study found that young adolescents in a nonurban area of Upstate New York were generally marginalized in the vaccine decision-making process yet third of them indicated an interest in how vaccines work and a desire to participate in healthcare decisions. Interventions to improve vaccine uptake among adolescents should capitalize on this desire to understand vaccine safety, effectiveness and mechanism of action.

Abstract
The American Academy of Pediatrics California Chapter 3 created a 20-minute training video targeting barriers to strong provider recommendation of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. The video included clinical vignettes featuring pediatricians modeling counseling techniques with vaccine-hesitant families. Ninety-six multidisciplinary providers (including pediatric residents) at 6 sites viewed the video and completed baseline and posttest questionnaires assessing their vaccine knowledge, attitudes toward vaccination, and comfort with skills needed to facilitate vaccination. Following the intervention, providers had substantial and statistically significant ( P < .05) improvements in multiple areas assessed, particularly knowledge of the burden of HPV-related disease in males and changes in vaccine response with age; likelihood of "strongly agreeing" that vaccination should not be delayed beyond preadolescence and that HPV vaccine is safe; and feeling "very comfortable" counseling vaccine-hesitant parents and facilitating vaccine completion. This cost-effective and easily disseminated training modality shows promise in increasing provider comfort with HPV vaccine counseling.

Abstract
Human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine was developed to reduce HPV-attributable cancers, external genital warts (EGW), and recurrent respiratory papillomatosis. Adolescent HPV vaccination series completion rates are less than 40% in the United States of America, but up to 80% in Australia and the United Kingdom. Population-based herd immunity requires 80% or greater vaccination series completion rates. Pro-vaccination counseling facilitates increased vaccination rates. Multimodal counseling interventions may increase HPV vaccination series non-completers’ HPV-attributable disease knowledge and HPV-attributable disease prophylaxis (vaccination) acceptance over a brief 14-sentence counseling intervention. An online, 4-group, randomized controlled trial, with 260 or more participants per group, found that parents were more likely to accept HPV vaccination offers for their children than were childless young adults for themselves (68.2% and 52.9%). A combined audiovisual and patient health education handout (PHEH) intervention raised knowledge of HPV vaccination purpose, p = 0.02, and HPV vaccination acceptance for seven items, p < 0.001 to p = 0.023. The audiovisual intervention increased HPV vaccination acceptance for five items, p < 0.001 to p = 0.006. That HPV causes EGW, and that HPV vaccination prevents HPV-attributable diseases were better conveyed by the combined audiovisual and PHEH than the control 14-sentence counseling intervention alone.
