Abstract
Introduction Despite the improvements in European health systems, a large number of premature deaths are attributable to treatable mortality. Men make up the majority of these deaths, with a significant gap existing between women and men's treatable mortality rate in the EU. Aim This study aims to identify the healthcare-related factors, including health expenditures, human and physical resources, and hospital services use associated with treatable mortality in women and men across European countries during the period 2011-2019. Methods We use Eurostat data for 28 EU countries in the period 2011-2019. We estimate a panel data linear regression with country fixed effects and quantile linear regression for men and women. Results The results found (i) differences in drivers for male and female treatable mortality, but common drivers hold the same direction for both sexes; (ii) favorable drivers are GDP per capita, health expenditures, number of physicians per capita, and (only for men) the average length of a hospital stay, (iii) unfavorable drivers are nurses and beds per capita, although nurses are not significant for explaining female mortality. Conclusion Policy recommendations may arise that involve an improvement in hospital bed management and the design of more specific policies aimed at healthcare professionals.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Traditional medicine (TM) is commonly used as a treatment in Indonesia. This raises the need for an analysis of its potential development and irrational use. Therefore, we analyze the proportion of TM users among chronic disease patients and its associated characteristics to optimize the use of TM in Indonesia. METHODS A cross-sectional study of treated adult chronic disease patients was conducted using the fifth Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS-5) database. Descriptive analysis was used to identify the proportion of TM users, while a multivariate logistic regression was used to analyze their characteristics. RESULTS This study included 4901 subjects and identified 27.1% as TM users. The highest TM use was in subjects with cancer (43.9%), liver issues (38.3%), cholesterol issues (34.3%), diabetes (33.6%), and stroke (31.7%). Characteristics associated with TM users were a perception of one's current health as unhealthy (OR 2.59, 95% CI 1.76-3.81), low medication adherence (OR 2.49, 95% CI 2.17-2.85), age above 65 years (OR 2.17, 95% CI 1.63-2.90), having higher education (OR 1.64, 95% CI 1.17-2.29), and residence outside of Java (OR 1.27, 95% CI 1.11-1.45). CONCLUSIONS Low medication adherence among TM users highlights the potentially irrational use of treatment in chronic diseases. Nevertheless, the longstanding use of TM users indicates the potential for its development. Further studies and interventions are needed to optimize TM use in Indonesia.

Abstract
Increasing evidence points to the salience of early life experiences in shaping health inequalities, but scant research has considered the role of institutional resources as buffers in this relationship. Health care systems in particular are an understudied yet important context for the generation of inequalities from childhood into adulthood. This research investigates associations between childhood disadvantage and adult morbidity and examines the role of health care system quality in this relationship. We also consider the role of adult socioeconomic status. We merge individual-level data on major disease (2014 European Social Survey) with nation-level health care indicators. Results across subjective and objective approaches to health care system quality are similar, indicating a reduced association between childhood socioeconomic status and adult disease in countries with higher quality health care. In total, our results reiterate the long-term influence of childhood disadvantage on health while suggesting health care's specific role as an institutional resource for ameliorating life course health inequalities.

Abstract
Objective: A one third reduction of premature deaths from non-communicable diseases by 2030 is a target of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal for Health. Unlike in other developed nations, premature mortality in the United States (US) is increasing. The state of Oklahoma suffers some of the greatest rates in the US of both all-cause mortality and overdose deaths. Medicaid opioids are associated with overdose death at the patient level, but the impact of this exposure on population all-cause mortality is unknown. The objective of this study was to look for an association between Medicaid spending, as proxy measure for Medicaid opioid exposure, and all-cause mortality rates in the 45–54-year-old American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN45-54) and non-Hispanic white (NHW45-54) populations. Methods: All-cause mortality rates were collected from the US Centers for Disease Control & Prevention Wonder Detailed Mortality database. Annual per capita (APC) Medicaid spending, and APC Medicare opioid claims, smoking, obesity, and poverty data were also collected from existing databases. County-level multiple linear regression (MLR) analyses were performed. American Indian mortality misclassification at death is known to be common, and sparse populations are present in certain counties; therefore, the two populations were examined as a combined population (AI/NHW45-54), with results being compared to NHW45-54 alone. Results: State-level simple linear regressions of AI/NHW45-54 mortality and APC Medicaid spending show strong, linear correlations: females, coefficient 0.168, (R2 0.956; P < 0.0001; CI95 0.15, 0.19); and males, coefficient 0.139 (R2 0.746; P < 0.0001; CI95 0.10, 0.18). County-level regression models reveal that AI/NHW45-54 mortality is strongly associated with APC Medicaid spending, adjusting for Medicare opioid claims, smoking, obesity, and poverty. In females: [R2 0.545; (F)P < 0.0001; Medicaid spending coefficient 0.137; P < 0.004; 95% CI 0.05, 0.23]. In males: [R2 0.719; (F)P < 0.0001; Medicaid spending coefficient 0.330; P < 0.001; 95% CI 0.21, 0.45]. Conclusions: In Oklahoma, per capita Medicaid spending is a very strong risk factor for all-cause mortality in the combined AI/NHW45-54 population, after controlling for Medicare opioid claims, smoking, obesity, and poverty.
