Abstract
In patients with facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD), a rare genetic neuromuscular disease, reduced physical performance is associated with lower blood levels of vitamin C, zinc, selenium, and increased oxidative stress markers. Supplementation of vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, and selenium improves the quadriceps' physical performance. Here, we compared the nutritional status of 74 women and 85 men with FSHD. Calorie intake was lower in women with FSHD than in men. Moreover, we assessed vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, copper, and selenium intakes in diet and their concentrations in the plasma. Vitamin E, copper, and zinc intake were lower in women with FSHD than in men, whereas plasma vitamin C, copper levels, and copper/zinc ratio were higher in women with FSHD than in men. The dietary intake and plasma concentrations of the studied vitamins and minerals were not correlated in both sexes. A well-balanced and varied diet might not be enough in patients with FSHD to correct the observed vitamin/mineral deficiencies. A low energy intake is a risk factor for suboptimal intake of proteins, vitamins, and minerals that are important for protein synthesis and other metabolic pathways and that might contribute to progressive muscle mass loss. Antioxidant supplementation and higher protein intake seem necessary to confer protection against oxidative stress and skeletal muscle mass loss.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS The micronutrient status of those receiving long-term enteral nutrition (EN) is poorly characterised. This systematic review was undertaken to determine prevalence of micronutrient deficiency in those receiving EN; the impact of the route of feeding; whether underlying disease or clinical factors were associated with micronutrient status; and the efficacy of interventions utilised to treat identified micronutrient deficiency. METHODS Electronic databases (CINAHL, Embase, PubMed, Web of Science) were searched to June 2021 for publications of primary investigation of micronutrient status in adults or children (>5yrs) receiving EN for >2 months in their usual residence. Independent assessment of compliance with inclusion criteria (Covidence®), data extraction of predefined data points, assessment of basis (Academy of Dietetics Quality Checklist) and certainty of evidence (GRADE) was assessed by at least two authors. (PROSPERO Registration: CRD42021261113). RESULTS Thirty-one studies (n = 744) met inclusion criteria. Deficiency was reported for copper, zinc, selenium, beta-carotene, and vitamins A, D and E: Only copper, zinc and selenium were associated with physical/haematological manifestations of deficiency. Jejunal feeding was associated with the development of copper deficiency and often required gastric or parenteral replacement to resolve the issue. Circumstances leading to deficiency included receiving feed products formulated with inadequate amounts of the implicated nutrient, low feed product volumes in the context of low macronutrient requirements, and nutritional decline prior to commencement of EN. Potential confounding factors such as inflammation were rarely accounted for. No studies investigated the contribution of underlying clinical condition on micronutrient status, and no other clinical or demographic features appeared to impact outcomes. Reported methods for treating identified deficiencies were usually successful in reversing deficiency symptoms. The certainty of evidence is very low, and the level of bias moderate to high. CONCLUSION While the evidence is very uncertain about the effect of long-term enteral feeding on the development of micronutrient deficiencies, clinicians should be alert to the possibility of micronutrient deficiency developing in long-term EN fed patients. Those who may be at increased risk are those receiving nutrition into the jejunum, those who meet macronutrient requirements in low volumes of EN product, and those commencing EN in a nutritionally deplete state. Further research and surveillance of micronutrient status with contemporary EN products and practices is required.

Abstract
Achieving optimal nutrition for a child who is receiving acute rehabilitation in the pediatric intensive care unit requires an individualized approach. Nutrition screening and assessment is necessary to identify children at high risk for complications who require targeted interventions. Early enteral nutrition can improve outcomes, and is thus preferred over parenteral nutrition in the absence of gastrointestinal contraindications. Measurement of caloric requirements with indirect calorimetry is essential to accurately prescribe nutrition support, while monitoring body composition can determine efficacy of nutrition therapies employed. The complex care of critically ill children receiving acute rehabilitation is composed of treatments that compete with delivery of prescribed nutrition. Repeated feeding interruptions can lead to nutrition deficits and prolonged recovery. Nutrition bundles that incorporate evidenced-based nutrition algorithms, methods to overcome nutrition barriers, and nutrition monitoring parameters can direct and optimize nutrition care for critically ill children in need of acute rehabilitation.

Abstract
Background Individuals with cerebral palsy (CP) are at risk for nutritional insufficiency. The purpose of the study was to examine the vitamin D status of adults with CP, and to evaluate the association between vitamin D and functional level, age, race, and anthropometric indicators of adiposity. Methods Serum vitamin D levels, BMI, waist circumference (WC), and functional level (measured by Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS)) were examined in 112 adults with CP. Vitamin D status was assessed by serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D level (25(OH)D). The influence of motor impairment and adiposity on 25(OH)D were assessed using general linear modeling and logistic regression, with age, sex, race, and season as covariates. Results Mean vitamin D was 28.1 ± 16.0 ng/ml. Only 45% of subjects had optimal levels of 25(OH)D, 21% were insufficient and 34% were deficient. Overweight or obesity was prevalent (52%), as was abdominal obesity in men (23.5% at 102 cm cutoff) and women (31.1% at 88 cm cutoff). There was a robust association between the indicator of visceral adiposity (WC) and 25(OH)D level (p <0.001), even after controlling for age, sex, race, season, and GMFCS. According to sex-specific WC cutoffs, the odds of being deficient in vitamin D increase by a factor of 3.5 (95% CI 1.12-11.0) for abdominal obesity. GMFCS was not associated with 25(OH)D. Conclusions Adults with CP are at risk for low vitamin D levels and overweight/obesity. Waist circumference is a strong independent predictor for low vitamin D levels.
