Abstract
Introduction: Operations on the tympanic membrane of the middle ear, myringoplasty, and tympanoplasty are now widely accepted, and attempts are underway all over the world to standardize the surgical techniques. This study aimed to compare postoperative outcomes of endoscopic and microscopic cartilage myringoplasty in patients suffering from chronic otitis media (COM). Materials and Methods: This clinical trial study compared 130 patients with COM who underwent transcanal endoscopic myringoplasty by repairing perforation using auricular concha cartilage under general anesthesia (n=75) and conventional repairing method by postauricular incision and tympanomeatal flap elevation under microscopic surgery (n=55). Results: According to the results, there was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of hearing gain 1, 6, and 12 months after surgery (P=0.063); however, higher hearing gain scores were observed in the endoscopic group. Moreover, lower recovery time and post-operative pain were reported in patients who underwent the endoscopic approach, compared to those who treated with the conventional repairing method (P<0.001). Conclusion: Endoscopic myringoplasty technique is a safe and effective way to improve hearing loss as much as the conventional method. However, due to the lower recovery time and post-operative pain, it seems to be the method of choice in myringoplasty surgery.

Abstract
Objective We aimed to summarize key articles published between 2011 and 2015 on the treatment of (recurrent) acute otitis media, otitis media with effusion, tympanostomy tube otorrhea, chronic suppurative otitis media and complications of otitis media, and their implications for clinical practice. Data Sources PubMed, Ovid Medline, the Cochrane Library, and Clinical Evidence (BMJ Publishing). Review Methods All types of articles related to otitis media treatment and complications between June 2011 and March 2015 were identified. A total of 1122 potential related articles were reviewed by the panel members; 118 relevant articles were ultimately included in this summary. Conclusions Recent literature and guidelines emphasize accurate diagnosis of acute otitis media and optimal management of ear pain. Watchful waiting is optional in mild to moderate acute otitis media; antibiotics do shorten symptoms and duration of middle ear effusion. The additive benefit of adenoidectomy to tympanostomy tubes in recurrent acute otitis media and otitis media with effusion is controversial and age dependent. Topical antibiotic is the treatment of choice in acute tube otorrhea. Symptomatic hearing loss due to persistent otitis media with effusion is best treated with tympanostomy tubes. Novel molecular and biomaterial treatments as adjuvants to surgical closure of eardrum perforations seem promising. There is insufficient evidence to support the use of complementary and alternative treatments. Implications for Practice Emphasis on accurate diagnosis of otitis media, in its various forms, is important to reduce overdiagnosis, overtreatment, and antibiotic resistance. Children at risk for otitis media and its complications deserve special attention.

Abstract
To date, there is limited comparative effectiveness research (CER) in head and neck surgical oncology. Several barriers exist, the most common of which include low patient accrual, selection bias inherent to observational studies, and the difficulty of integrating both clinical and functional outcomes. Areas in need of meaningful CER range from initial evaluation to post-treatment surveillance, as well as the identification and evaluation of significant quality metrics and patient-reported outcomes. Despite existing hurdles, careful study design and statistical analyses can address current gaps in head and neck cancer care.

Abstract
Middle ear diseases in childhood play an important role in daily ENT practice due to their high incidence. Some of these like acute otitis media or otitis media with effusion have been studied extensively within the last decades. In this article, we present a selection of important childhood middle ear diseases and discuss the actual literature concerning their treatment, management of complications and outcome. Another main topic of this paper deals with the possibilities of surgical hearing rehabilitation in childhood. The bone-anchored hearing aid BAHA(®) and the active partially implantable device Vibrant Soundbridge(®) could successfully be applied for children. In this manuscript, we discuss the actual literature concerning clinical outcomes of these implantable hearing aids.

Abstract
Acute otitis media and otitis media with effusion are common childhood disorders, a source of significant morbidity, and a leading cause of antibiotic prescription in primary health care. Although effective treatments are available, some shortcomings remain, and thus better treatments would be welcome. Recent discoveries within the field of otitis media research relating to its etiology and pathogenesis have led to further investigation aimed at developing novel treatments. This article provides a review of the latest evidence relating to the understanding of acute otitis media and otitis media with effusion, current treatment strategies, their limitations, new areas of research, and novel strategies for treatment.
