A study of user switching intention for ERP systems based on push-pull-mooring model: Focusing on the important role of information quality for users

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems have become indispensable within companies due to their substantial functions and benefits. With a plethora of ERP systems available in the market, management is offered a broad array of options. This paper endeavours to identify the determinants influencing the switching intention of ERP users. Utilizing a conceptual model that adapts the push-pull-mooring paradigm, we seek to construct a formation mechanism of switching intention. Through structural equation modeling conducted on data collected from 236 users, our study uncovers several key findings. The study indicates that system quality, information quality, and top management support exert considerable influence on switching intention via satisfaction. Notably, we found that user satisfaction has a negative impact on switching intention. Our analysis also reveals that alternative attractiveness significantly determines switching intention. These findings provide valuable insights for organizations and ERP vendors to better understand user behaviour and to strategically manage user retention and switching decisions.

Understanding continuance intention of enterprise resource planning (ERP): TOE, TAM, and IS success model

This paper aims to identify the key factors influencing the intention to continue using enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. Extending the Technology-Organization-Environment framework, the model integrates variables from both the Technology Acceptance Model and the Information Systems Success Model. We employed Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling to analyze empirical data collected from 237 participants who use ERP systems in their workplaces. Our findings suggest that perceived usefulness has a positive impact on the intention to continue using ERP. Both system quality and information quality are pivotal in shaping perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Additionally, we found that top management support is a crucial determinant of continuance intention. The integrated model combines technological factors, organizational context, and environmental components to explain the ongoing use of ERP systems. This research enriches the existing literature on information systems, offering academics and managers deeper insights into the mechanisms driving continued ERP usage.

Mechanisms for successful management of enterprise resource planning from user information processing and system quality perspective

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are now ubiquitous in modern organizations. A number of previous studies have focused only on system factors and perceptions, there is a noticeable shortfall in research that concurrently addresses technological factors and human roles in explaining user satisfaction. This study aimed to identify these variables from the perspectives of information systems, technology, and human participation, thereby addressing this knowledge gap. The focus of the study was a large shipbuilding and marine company utilizing an ERP system. The participants, a sample of 234 ERP users, were carefully selected by the company's executives and practitioners, and data was collected through online questionnaires. They were selected through purposive sampling from among employees who use ERP systems in large-scale shipbuilding and marine engineering companies. The study aimed to clarify the relationships between user satisfaction and perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, system quality, service quality, participation, and information quality. A partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to analyze the collected data. The results indicated that perceived ease of use, system quality, service quality, and participation positively influenced user satisfaction, whereas perceived usefulness did not have a significant impact. Interestingly, participation was found to lessen the effects of perceived usefulness on satisfaction. The findings of this study suggest that to enhance ERP user satisfaction, managers should strive to make the ERP system easy-to-use and stable, encourage employee participation in the decision-making process, and bolster the role of the support team. It should be noted, however, that the study has limitations as it did not consider all possible factors, such as training and support. Future research should take a broader view of the variables involved in the operation of an enterprise-wide information system.

Telehealth and Transformation of Nursing Care in Saudi Arabia: A Systematic Review

Introduction

Technological advancements have transformed nursing care, quality, and education across the globe. In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), the inventions and adoption of mobile technologies such as an e-health application (app) called SEHA continue to revolutionize the healthcare system in the country.

Purpose

The present systematic review is aimed at examining the technological impact on nursing in Saudi Arabia. The study provides a comprehensive analysis of telehealth and its role in nursing quality, nursing practice, and education.

Methods

The present study adopted a literature review methodology by deriving data from journal articles from different databases, for example, Web Science, Google Scholar, CINAHL, MEDLINE, and PubMed databases. Inclusive years for the search ranged from 2016 to 2022. A total of eight articles were found dovetailing to meet the research objectives and answer research questions.

Result

After appraising and analyzing the research, the present review found that (Abolfotouh et al., 2019) telehealth in nursing is loosely researched; (Ahmed et al., 2021) telehealth impacts nursing practice and quality by fostering nurse-patient communication promoting positive outcomes, seamless nursing care, and positive experiences; and (Albahri et al., 2021) telehealth and telemedicine is a central tenet of contemporary nursing education and practice.

Conclusion

From these findings, this analysis informed three key recommendations: the need to integrate telehealth into the nursing curriculum, telehealth training, and reskilling among healthcare workers (HCWs) in KSA and further primary studies focusing predominantly on telenursing. Overall, telehealth remains a fundamental transformation of nursing practice that forms a central ideology in the contemporary nursing process.

Cloud Computing, Big Data, and Blockchain Technology Adoption in ERP Implementation Methodology

The aim of the paper is to present the new factors of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning system) implementation related to the usage of cloud-based and blockchain information technology and to discover potential possibilities of using cloud computing, big data, and blockchain technologies in the methodology of ERP implementation. The article covers the characteristics of the current implementation methodologies and also discusses how these technologies can be adopted in the implementation process. During the study, a literature review was carried out and survey-based interviews with project managers were performed. Previous studies examined in the literature review have some limitations. Most of them are focused on ERP performance in the cloud or measure success factors of ERP implementation. A research gap exists regarding the impact of technologies in the implementation process and the results of this process. The research shed some light on cloud computing and blockchain in ERP implementation. The conclusions are as follows: (1) Some methods of sustainable methods of ERP implementation with the use of cloud technologies, blockchain, and big data have been examined in research studies, but there is still a lack of publications with in-depth analyses of the impact of blockchain on ERP implementation success. (2) The practitioners recommended the new technologies based on cloud computing and big data in the process of ERP implementation, and more knowledge about blockchain would have a positive impact on the success of sustainable ERP implementation as well as on the willingness to adopt the new technologies.

A Comprehensive Approach of Exploring Usability Problems in Enterprise Resource Planning Systems

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is a frequently used system among organizations to automate their workflows, and companies’ performances are highly dependent on the ERP system. The usability issues of ERP systems may cause performance degradation, resulting in the company’s loss in terms of cost. Previously, several studies reported many usability problems of ERP systems. It can be helpful for the developers and designers of ERP systems to use design recommendations as a quick reference to avoid recurrent usability problems of ERP systems. Currently, this area lacks effective consolidation of the previously reported usability problems data. This paper presents a unique approach to developing a precise checklist of ERP usability problems using the topic modeling technique. Our analysis found six different usability problem-related topics that can be generalized for various ERP systems. We have successfully validated our checklist in three different usability studies of ERP systems. The most found usability problems are “difficulty searching and finding desired item/information in interface and error handling” and “missing data and information”. The outcome of our paper is the provision of recommendations to avoid the usability problems of ERP systems and help organizations efficiently prevent frequent issues during the development and maintenance of ERP systems.

Factors Affecting Cloud ERP Adoption by Tunisian SMEs

This study aims to identify the factors that determine the intention to adopt cloud ERP by Tunisian small, medium, and micro-enterprises (SMEs). Based on previous studies on cloud computing and cloud ERP, a research model was developed. A questionnaire survey was administrated online with two samples of adopters and non-adopters of traditional ERP during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Tunisia. Collected data were analyzed through PLS-SEM techniques. Findings suggest that both compatibility and technological readiness are favoring the cloud ERP adoption by SMEs adopters of traditional ERP, whereas compatibility and managers' support are driving its adoption by SMEs, non-adopters of these systems. Relative advantage, complexity, data security and confidentiality, financial readiness, regulatory support, and competitive pressure are insignificant factors for the two samples. This research contributes to fill some of the highlighted theoretical gaps in the field and may help managers and ICT staff in SMEs, cloud ERP providers, and policy makers to make more informed decisions.

Overcoming the Challenges of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)

The study presents the results of a comprehensive review conducted between 2005-2020 to identify Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) challenges, discover the divisions in which these challenges can be clustered, and provide general strategies to resolve these challenges. The study also found 25 categories that can be classified into ERP challenges. 65 ERP challenges were identified based on the reviewed literature, of which 18 were not provided with adequate solutions as to how to resolve them, and the related solutions as mentioned in the reviewed literature are presented in-depth. The result will help both academics and practitioners involved with how to resolve ERP system challenges.

Prioritising Organisational Factors Impacting Cloud ERP Adoption and the Critical Issues Related to Security, Usability, and Vendors: A Systematic Literature Review

Cloud ERP is a type of enterprise resource planning (ERP) system that runs on the vendor’s cloud platform instead of an on-premises network, enabling companies to connect through the Internet. The goal of this study was to rank and prioritise the factors driving cloud ERP adoption by organisations and to identify the critical issues in terms of security, usability, and vendors that impact adoption of cloud ERP systems. The assessment of critical success factors (CSFs) in on-premises ERP adoption and implementation has been well documented; however, no previous research has been carried out on CSFs in cloud ERP adoption. Therefore, the contribution of this research is to provide research and practice with the identification and analysis of 16 CSFs through a systematic literature review, where 73 publications on cloud ERP adoption were assessed from a range of different conferences and journals, using inclusion and exclusion criteria. Drawing from the literature, we found security, usability, and vendors were the top three most widely cited critical issues for the adoption of cloud-based ERP; hence, the second contribution of this study was an integrative model constructed with 12 drivers based on the security, usability, and vendor characteristics that may have greater influence as the top critical issues in the adoption of cloud ERP systems. We also identified critical gaps in current research, such as the inconclusiveness of findings related to security critical issues, usability critical issues, and vendor critical issues, by highlighting the most important drivers influencing those issues in cloud ERP adoption and the lack of discussion on the nature of the criticality of those CSFs. This research will aid in the development of new strategies or the revision of existing strategies and polices aimed at effectively integrating cloud ERP into cloud computing infrastructure. It will also allow cloud ERP suppliers to determine organisations’ and business owners’ expectations and implement appropriate tactics. A better understanding of the CSFs will narrow the field of failure and assist practitioners and managers in increasing their chances of success.

Analysis of the factors influencing adoption of 3D design digital technologies in Colombian firms

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to analyse the factors influencing intention to adopt 3D design digital technologies (3DDTs) by Colombian firms.

Design/methodology/approach

A conceptual framework was developed using technology-organization-environment (TOE) and technology acceptance model (TAM) theoretical frameworks. From a sample of 138 firms, a structural equation model was analysed with partial least squares (SEM-PLS).

Findings

The study identified that perceived usefulness in the technological dimension; technological competence and top management support in the organizational dimension; and competitive pressures in the environmental dimension, are variables affecting intention to adopt 3DDT. The effects of the mediating variables with respect to intention to adopt the technology are also analysed, such as perceived usefulness on the effect of ease of use; top management support on the effect of technological competence and financial readiness; and competitive pressures on the effect of stakeholder pressure. The model explained 71.1% of the 3DDT intention to adopt.

Practical implications

The model can be used as a guideline to ensure a positive outcome of the 3DDT adoption in organizations. The results could be useful to understand a technological adoption process for digital transformation.

Originality/value

The proposed model integrates some contributions from the TAM and TOE theories and identifies some novel mediating effects that improve its predictive and explanatory power. Furthermore, this is a pioneering study in empirical research on 3DDT in the context of a developing country, specifically in Colombia. The findings from this study provide a foundation for other studies, as well as constructive insights for digital transformation, due to its infancy in an emerging economy.

Effective Cloud Resource Utilisation in Cloud ERP Decision-Making Process for Industry 4.0 in the United States

Cloud enterprise resource planning (C-ERP) represents an evolution of traditional ERP, which also offers the advantages of cloud computing (CC) such as ease of use and resource elasticity. This article presents the opportunities and challenges of the C-ERP adoption for industry 4.0 in the United States as well as the factors that boost or hinder such a decision. The quantitative research method is used to gather the predictor factors and correlation amongst them. An online survey questionnaire received 109 responses, mainly decision-makers and professionals from the US consumer goods industry. Statistical analysis has been carried out to rank the different levels of influence in the C-ERP adoption decision. The predictor’s complexity and regulatory compliance positively influence C-ERP private service deployment, whereas technology readiness is a good predictor of community service deployment. This paper also proposes a decision support system (DSS), tailored to industry 4.0, and aimed at assisting decision-makers in adopting C-ERP as an effective resource for decision-making. The DSS is built upon the predictors using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and it supports decision-makers in the selection of services and deployment models for C-ERP as a resource.

Factors Affecting Intention to Adopt Cloud-Based ERP from a Comprehensive Approach

To enhance the sustainability of business operations, enterprises have interests in enterprise resource planning (ERP) transitions from an existing on-premise method to a cloud-based system. This study conducts a comprehensive analysis using the technology-organization-environment, diffusion of innovation, and the model of innovation resistance frameworks. The empirical analysis shows that the factors of organizational culture, regulatory environment, relative advantage, trialability, and vendor lock-in all had a significant influence on the intention to adopt cloud-based ERP, while information and communications technology skill, complexity, observability, data security, and customization had no significant influence on the intention to adopt cloud-based ERP. This study’s findings provide meaningful guidance for companies that want to adopt cloud-based ERP, governments that support enterprise digitalization, and vendors who sell cloud-based ERP systems.
