Abstract
BACKGROUND Advanced cancer significantly impacts patients' and family caregivers' quality of life. When patients and caregivers are supported concurrently as a dyad, the well-being of each person is optimized. Family, Outlook, Communication, Uncertainty, Symptom management (FOCUS) is a dyadic, psychoeducational intervention developed in the United States, shown to improve the well-being and quality of life of patients with advanced cancer and their primary caregivers. Originally, a nurse-delivered in-person intervention, FOCUS has been adapted into a self-administered web-based intervention for European delivery. OBJECTIVE The aims of this study are to (1) adapt FOCUS to the Australian context (FOCUSau); (2) evaluate the effectiveness of FOCUSau in improving the emotional well-being and self-efficacy of patients with advanced cancer and their primary caregiver relative to usual care control group; (3) compare health care use between the intervention and control groups; and (4) assess the acceptability, feasibility, and scalability of FOCUSau in order to inform future maintainable implementation of the intervention within the Australian health care system. METHODS FOCUS will be adapted prior to trial commencement, using an iterative stakeholder feedback process to create FOCUSau. To examine the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of FOCUSau and assess its acceptability, feasibility, and scalability, we will undertake a hybrid type 1 implementation study consisting of a phase 3 (clinical effectiveness) trial along with an observational implementation study. Participants will include patients with cancer who are older than 18 years, able to access the internet, and able to identify a primary support person or caregiver who can also be approached for participation. The sample size consists of 173 dyads in each arm (ie, 346 dyads in total). Patient-caregiver dyad data will be collected at 3 time points-baseline (T0) completed prerandomization; first follow-up (T1; N=346) at 12 weeks post baseline; and second follow-up (T2) at 24 weeks post baseline. RESULTS The study was funded in March 2022. Recruitment commenced in July 2024. CONCLUSIONS If shown to be effective, this intervention will improve the well-being of patients with advanced cancer and their family caregivers, regardless of their location or current level of health care support. Abstract
CONTEXT Despite the expansion of palliative care (PC) services, the public has little knowledge and holds misperceptions about PC, creating barriers to accessing timely specialty PC. OBJECTIVES To systematically review the evidence regarding the efficacy of educational interventions to improve knowledge and attitudes about PC among nonhealthcare workers. METHODS We searched five databases (PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, CIANHL, Web of Science, and Scopus) for studies investigating educational interventions about specialty PC in adults who identified as patients, caregivers, or members of the public. We included studies that were available in English and had a comparator group. We excluded studies that only sampled health professionals or children. We used the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool to assess quality and risk of bias. RESULTS Of 12,420 records identified, we screened 5948 abstracts and assessed 526 full texts for eligibility. Twenty-one articles were extracted for analysis, representing 20 unique educational interventions. Common methodologies included quasi-experimental (9, 45%), randomized controlled trial (4, 20%), and nonrandomized trial (2, 10%). Common components of the educational interventions included video presentations (9, 45%), written materials (8, 40%), and lectures (4, 20%). Content included definition (14, 70%) and philosophy (14, 70%) of PC, distinctions between PC and hospice (11, 55%), and eligibility for PC (11, 55%). Fourteen (70%) interventions showed statistically significant positive differences in either knowledge or attitudes about PC. CONCLUSIONS While educational interventions can positively impact knowledge and attitudes about PC among nonhealthcare workers, more research is needed to inform the design, delivery, and evaluation of interventions to increase knowledge and attitudes about PC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Many people deny science and reject health recommendations despite widely distributed facts and statistics. Didactic science and health communication is often dry, and relies on the false assumption that people make purely evidence-based decisions. Stories can be a powerful teaching tool by capturing attention and evoking emotion. OBJECTIVE We explore the impact and appeal of, and describe best practices for, using narrative (storytelling) versus didactic methods in science and health communication. PATIENT INVOLVEMENT No patients were involved in the review process. METHODS We searched PubMed and Web of Science for articles either: assessing effectiveness of narrative science/health communication; assessing acceptability of (or preference for) narrative science/health communication; giving advice on how best to use narrative; and/or providing science-based explanations for how/why narrative succeeds. RESULTS Narrative science/health communication is effective and appealing for audiences across a variety of topics and mediums, with supporting evidence across fields such as epidemiology, neuroscience, and psychology. Whether narrative or didactic messaging is most effective depends on the topic, audience, and objective, as well as message quality. However, combining narrative with didactic methods is likely to be more effective than using either strategy alone. DISCUSSION Narrative science/health communication merits wider implementation and further research. Narrative communication creates openness to information by delaying the formulation of counterarguments. PRACTICAL VALUE Science and health communicators should collaborate with cultural and storytelling experts, work directly with their target audiences throughout the message development and testing processes, and rely on popular story elements (e.g., first-person point of view, relatable protagonists) to improve the comprehension, engagement, and thoughtful consideration of their intended audience. Abstract
As the world enters the second year of the pandemic, many posts are marketed to promote products under the guise of spreading knowledge to fulfill the users' requirement for health knowledge. Current research, however, has primarily focused on methods to improve health literacy rather than the impact of this new form. To remedy this deficiency, this research use Cognition-Affect-Conation Pattern (CAC) to investigate digital media users and to determine attitudes towards this new form and influential. Data was collected in December 2021 from 314 users in Guangzhou, China, via a Likert-type scale developed by the researchers. Regression analyzes were also performed. Research has shown that consumer attitudes in health knowledge marketing fall within the standard learning hierarchy, with consumer self-cognition and information quality cognitions showing a positive relationship with their affect and conation. At the same time, affect did play a mediating role in this model. The results of our study provide constructive solutions for companies to optimize the communication environment of health spread in society. The findings not only provide researchers with a new perspective to study the impact of interactive digital media communication on health knowledge, but also help identify users' information needs and formulate effective strategies to increase consumers' understanding and application of health knowledge and products. Providing health knowledge content and leveraging digital media to develop well-established communication channels is important to foster relationships with customers.

Abstract
Background: Lack of knowledge of palliative care has been identified as a primary barrier to access to care, with a recent survey reporting that Hispanics have the lowest rate of palliative care knowledge compared with other racial/ethnic groups. The purpose of this pilot study was to determine if there were trends toward improved palliative care knowledge after viewing four-minute video of a palliative care patient. Methods: We conducted a pre- and posttest pilot study among 50 Spanish-speaking, hospitalized Hispanic patients 40 years old and older in a large public hospital. We used the Palliative Care Knowledge Scale (PaCKS) to assess palliative care knowledge. Two questions measured intention to enroll in palliative care. Paired sample t-tests were conducted to investigate change in PaCKS scores. McNemar's test was used to compare differences in intentions to enroll in palliative care from pretest to posttest. We conducted linear regression analysis to determine factors associated with improved knowledge at posttest. Results: PaCKS scores revealed significant improvement in palliative care knowledge following viewing of the video, with scores increasing from an average of 6.4-11.4 at posttest. Intentions to enroll a family member in palliative care increased from 64% at pretest to 64%-98% at posttest. Intentions to enroll oneself increased from 72% to 92%. Conclusions: Brief exposure to a relatable role model may be effective in improving knowledge and intentions to enroll in palliative care services. More research is needed to determine if these videos are effective in increasing enrollment in palliative care.
