Benign mixed Müllerian (duct) vaginal tumor in a 12-y-old goat

In human and veterinary medicine, mixed Müllerian tumors (MMTs) are rarely diagnosed neoplasms of the tubular female genital tract. Although there are case reports of malignant MMTs in various species, benign MMTs have only been described once in a macaque. Here we present a case of benign MMT in a 12-y-old goat, and review the literature on uterine, cervical, and vaginal neoplasia in goats. The doe was presented with vaginal discharge and was euthanized because of the high suspicion of intraabdominal neoplasia. On gross examination, an ulcerated vaginal mass was identified. Histologically, 2 distinct cell populations were present: smooth muscle cells that were well differentiated and positive for alpha–smooth muscle actin, and ciliated columnar epithelial cells that lined ductal structures and had no signs of malignancy. These findings led to the diagnosis of neoplasia of Müllerian origin. Benign MMT should be considered as a differential diagnosis for uterine and vaginal neoplasms in goats.

Tubulosquamous Polyp of the Vagina: Misplaced Skene's Glands Analogous to the Male Prostate

Tubulosquamous polyp (TSP) of the vagina is a rare and benign lesion, best considered along the spectrum of lesions derived from Skene's glands, the female counterpart of male prostatic glands. It is likely underdiagnosed and represents a challenging diagnosis if one is unfamiliar with this entity. We present an illustrative case of TSP occurring as an upper vaginal wall nodule of a 75-year-old woman, with characteristic morphology and broad immunophenotype. It should be suspected in postmenopausal women with a polyp that demonstrates biphasic squamous and glandular components, which show a prostatic immunophenotype.

Vaginal spindle cell epithelioma: A first complete MRI and histopathologic description

Spindle cell epithelioma of the vagina is a benign entity with fewer than sixty cases described in the literature, and only two with limited imaging findings, since the early 1950s. Early pathology literature suggested the lesions were mixed tumors of myoepithelial origin, but subsequent studies have found relatively few immunohistochemical characteristics in common with other mixed cell tumors. More recently, Mullerian, urogenital sinus epithelial, and pluripotential cell origins have been proposed. Given lesion rarity and a typical lack of imaging before excision, the imaging appearance of vaginal spindle cell epitheliomas has not been fully described in the radiology literature, and without comprehensive pathology correlation. The authors describe a case of spindle cell epithelioma in a 54-year-old woman which was incidentally discovered on MRI performed for uterine fibroid embolization planning. Pathology and immunohistochemistry confirmed the diagnosis.

Wilms Tumor With Metastasis to the Vagina: A Case Report

A 12-year-old female presented with abdominal pain, night sweats, weight loss, constipation, dysmenorrhea, menorrhagia, and vaginal discharge. Examination revealed a palpable flank mass and a large tumor adherent to the anterior vaginal wall. Computed tomography scan demonstrated a 23 cm mass in the left kidney, a separate 10.8 cm pelvic mass, and metastatic disease. Biopsies were consistent with Wilms tumor. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy and a left radical nephrectomy were performed for her stage IV disease as the kidney was amiable to complete resection. The patient received radiation and resumed chemotherapy. She was doing well with improved symptoms at follow-up.
