Abstract
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) and environmental degradation are leading global health problems of our time. Recent studies have linked exposure to heavy metals to the risks of CVD and diabetes, particularly in populations from low- and middle-income countries, where concomitant rapid development occurs. In this review, we 1) assessed the totality, quantity, and consistency of the available epidemiological studies, linking heavy metal exposures to the risk of CVD (including stroke and coronary heart disease); 2) discussed the potential biological mechanisms underlying some tantalizing observations in humans; and 3) identified gaps in our knowledge base that must be investigated in future work. An accumulating body of evidence from both experimental and observational studies implicates exposure to heavy metals, in a dose-response manner, in the increased risk of CVD. The limitations of most existing studies include insufficient statistical power, lack of comprehensive assessment of exposure, and cross-sectional design. Given the widespread exposure to heavy metals, an urgent need has emerged to investigate these putative associations of environmental exposures, either independently or jointly, with incident CVD outcomes prospectively in well-characterized cohorts of diverse populations, and to determine potential strategies to prevent and control the impacts of heavy metal exposure on the cardiometabolic health outcomes of individuals and populations.

Abstract
C-reactive protein (CRP) and high-sensitivity CRP (hsCRP), along with a series of hematological indices, platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR), neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), mean platelet volume (MPV), platelet distribution width (PDW), and red blood cell distribution width (RDW), are regarded to be related to the incidence of no-reflow or slow flow. Clinical studies were retrieved from the electronic databases of PubMed, EMBASE, Google Scholar, Clinical Trials, and science direct from their inception to August 24, 2019. A total of 21 studies involving 7403 patients were included in the meta-analysis. Pooled analysis results revealed patients with higher hsCRP (odds ratio [OR] = 1.03, 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.01-1.05, P = .006), hsCRP (OR = 1.04, 95% CI: 1.0-1.08, P = .012), NLR (OR = 1.23, 95% CI: 1.11-1.37, P < .0001), PLR (OR = 1.13, 95% CI: 1.07-1.20, P < .0001), and MPV (OR = 2.13, 95% CI: 1.57-2.90, P < .0001) all exhibited significantly higher no-reflow incidence, but there was no significant association between no-reflow risk and RDW or PDW. Patients with higher CRP/hsCRP also performed higher rate of slow flow (OR = 1.06, 95% CI: 1.01-1.11, P = .018). Preangiographic CRP/hsCRP could independently predict no-reflow and slow flow. Moreover, some hematological indices are associated with no-flow.

Abstract
Magnesium is an essential mineral naturally present in the human body, where it acts as cofactor in several enzymatic reactions. Magnesium is a key cardiovascular regulator, which maintains electrical, metabolic, and vascular homeostasis. Moreover, magnesium participates in inflammation and oxidative processes. In fact, magnesium deficiency is involved in the pathophysiology of arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, metabolic syndrome, endothelial dysfunction, coronary artery disease, cardiac arrhythmias, and sudden cardiac death. In consideration of the great public-health impact of cardiovascular disease, the recognition of the negative effects of magnesium deficiency suggests the possible role of hypomagnesaemia as cardiovascular risk factor and the use of serum magnesium level for the screening and prevention of cardiovascular risk factors and cardiovascular diseases. Moreover, it might help with the identification of new therapeutical strategies for the management of cardiovascular disease through magnesium supplementation.
