Abstract
Central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) is a prevalent exudative maculopathy. Understanding risk factors for CSC is important for disease prevention and to provide evidence-based advice to patients. In this study, we systematically reviewed the literature and performed meta-analysis on the association between tobacco consumption and CSC. We searched 12 literature databases on May 5, 2024, and identified 11 eligible studies of 27 595 patients with CSC and 105 354 control individuals. Studies were predominantly clinic-based case-control studies. We calculated a summary estimate of tobacco consumption as a risk factor for CSC at an odds ratio of 2.99 (95% CI: 1.82-4.93, p = 0.000017), which remained statistically significant in the sensitivity analyses. The exact mechanism by which tobacco consumption contribute to the pathophysiology of CSC remains unclear, although several potential hypotheses exist. However, tobacco consumption is a modifiable behaviour and tobacco cessation is an actionable advice with which patients with CSC themselves can play a large role in disease management. Further studies are warranted to understand the impact of tobacco cessation for risk modification and for the prognosis of patients who already have CSC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Psychotherapy for post-traumatic stress disorder, in particular trauma-confronting psychotherapy, can be associated with increased stress. However, research on the somatic impact and psychosomatic interactions of these psychological stress reactions is lacking. We report on a 43-year old man whose central serous chorioretinopathy exacerbated upon trauma-confronting psychotherapy. CASE PRESENTATION We report on a man with pre-diagnosed, asymptomatic central serous chorioretinopathy who underwent inpatient psychosomatic therapy. He disclosed a history of sexual abuse by a family member and consequently showed intrusions, flashbacks, nightmares, avoidance behavior, and hyperarousal. Thus, we diagnosed post-traumatic stress disorder. After a stabilization phase, he underwent trauma-focused psychotherapy including trauma confrontation. In the course of this treatment, acute vision loss with blurred vision and image distortion of his right eye occurred. An ophthalmologic visit confirmed a relapse of a pre-diagnosed central serous chorioretinopathy. The analysis of stress biomarkers showed a decrease in testosterone levels and a noon peak in diurnal cortisol secretion, which is indicative of a stress reaction. CONCLUSION Central serous chorioretinopathy may exacerbate upon psychotherapeutic treatment. In this case, an exacerbation of chorioretinopathy was observed in direct relation to the therapeutic intervention. Psychotherapists and ophthalmologists should collaborate in the psychotherapeutic treatment of patients with chorioretinopathy. Our case demonstrates the need to consider the possible increased stress levels during psychotherapy and resulting physical side effects, such as exacerbation of an existing condition. It is advisable to adjust the level of generated stress particularly well in the presence of stress-inducible physical diseases. Our case is a good example of the interplay between psychological and physical stress.

Abstract
PURPOSE Central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR) a relatively common cause of visual impairment, which is characterized by subretinal fluid accumulation in the macula and is more common in middle-aged males. Various risk factors have been reported in literature, among which substantial role of psychological factors is cited. Our aim was to look for the prevalence and association of the psychiatric factors in CSCR patients and to compare them with other non-chorioretinal ocular pathologies. METHODS A cross-sectional correlational study was undertaken involving 91 CSCR patients, along with 91 patients with other non-chorioretinal diseases. Their risk factors, clinical history, ocular examination, and psychiatric assessments were done using standardized tools, and the groups were compared in terms of scoring of Framingham Type A scale (FTAS), Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A), and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS). RESULTS CSCR patients had a male:female ratio of 8:1. Chronic, bilateral, and recurrent diseases were found in 15%, 20%, and 23% cases, respectively. Anxiety disorder had a prevalence of 40%, followed by major depression with a prevalence of 24%, and these were significantly higher than non-chorioretinal disease patients (odds ratios 14.18 and 5.30, respectively). Also, these psychiatric disorders were significantly associated with an overall lower visual acuity and greater central macular thickness due to subretinal fluid accumulation. CONCLUSION Psychiatric comorbidities like Type A personality trait and depression and anxiety disorders were significantly more prevalent in CSCR patients, compared to non-chorioretinal pathologies. Focus on psychological health would certainly benefit these patients in terms of better management of not only CSCR, but their psychiatric morbidity as well.

Abstract
Background Central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) is preferential cocurated in males, however the associations between sex hormones and CSC incidence or progression remains unclear. The sex hormone concentration assessments in CSC cases and healthy controls will update the knowledge in CSC management. Methods This case-control study included 59 CSC cases and 30 healthy controls, from January 2019 to December 2020. The CSC cases would be defined as spontaneous resolved if the subretinal fluid were absorbed within three months. The concentrations of total testosterone (TT), free testosterone (FT), estradiol (E2), sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), progesterone, leuteinizing hormone (LH) and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S) were detected in all the participants. The relationships between sex hormone concentrations and CSC-related characteristics were analyzed with Pearson correlation analyses. Results Significantly increased TT, FT, FT/E2 ratio, SHBG concentrations as well as decreased DHEA-S level were detected in non-resolved CSC group compared with the control group. Comparing with the resolved ones, it was found that TT, FT and SHBG concentrations were increased in the non-resolved CSC. A significant positive correlation between TT concentrations and CMT (R2=0.168, P=0.031) as well as SRF height (R2=0.146, P=0.045) were detected in the non-solved CSC group. Conclusion Different concentrations of TT, FT, FT/E2 ratio, DHEA-S and SHBG were detected in resolved and non-resolved CSC cases. Sex hormones were related to CSC symptom durations and related parameters.
