Abstract
Congenital tumors are rare and, owing to this rarity, there is limited information on many of them. A total of 839 fetal and postnatal MRI studies performed in the first 3 months of life were retrospectively reviewed. They were performed with the use of 1.5 T scanners. Seventy-six tumors were diagnosed based on fetal MRI between 20 and 37 gestational weeks, and 27 were found after birth, from 1 day of age to 3 months of life. Teratomas were the most common tumors in our dataset, mainly in the sacrococcygeal region (SCT), followed by cardiac rhabdomyomas and subependymal giant cell astrocytomas (SEGA) associated with TSC, and neuroblastomas. The group of less common tumors consisted of infantile fibrosarcomas, malignant rhabdoid tumors, mesoblastic nephromas and Wilms tumor, craniopharyngiomas, brain stem gliomas, desmoplastic infantile astrocytoma, choroid plexus carcinoma, glioblastoma, hemangiopericytoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, melanoma, mesenchymal hamartomas of the chest wall and the liver, and juvenile xanthogranuloma, with special consideration of blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome. MRI plays a significant role in further and better characterization of congenital tumors, leading to a correct diagnosis in many cases, which is crucial for pregnancy and neonatal management and psychological preparation of the parents. No diagnosis is impossible and can be absolutely excluded.

Abstract
Central nervous system (CNS) abnormalities cause about 40% of infant deaths in the first year of life. In case of the detection of abnormalities by ultrasound, a pregnant woman should be offered prenatal magnetic resonance imaging (pMRI). The aims of our study were: (1) to evaluate the effectiveness of pMRI in the diagnosis of selected fetal CNS defects; and (2) to assess the possibility of replacing postnatal tests with prenatal magnetic resonance. The prospective and observational study was conducted between 2014 and 2017 at the University Hospital in Krakow. Patients with suspected CNS defects of the fetus were qualified for pMRI in the third trimester of pregnancy. Sixty patients were included in the study group. Prenatal MRI was characterized by low accuracy in the diagnosis of complex brain defects. Cohen’s kappa coefficient κ = 0.21 (95% CI 0.00–0.46). No evidence was found suggesting the replacement of postnatal tests with pMRI. MRI was characterized by low consistency of diagnoses in the case of complex brain defects. The possibility of replacing postnatal studies with pMRI was not supported.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The object of this review is to describe the choroid plexus tumors (CPTs) occurring in the fetus and neonate with regard to clinical presentation, location, pathology, treatment, and outcome. MATERIALS AND METHODS Case histories and clinical outcomes were reviewed from 93 cases of fetal and neonatal tumors obtained from the literature and our own institutional experience from 1980 to 2016. RESULTS Choroid plexus papilloma (CPP) is the most common tumor followed by choroid plexus carcinoma (CPC) and atypical choroid plexus papilloma (ACPP). Hydrocephalus and macrocephaly are the presenting features for all three tumors. The lateral ventricles are the main site of tumor origin followed by the third and fourth ventricles, respectively. CPTs of the fetus are detected most often near the end of the third trimester of pregnancy by fetal ultrasound. The extent of surgical resection plays an important role in the treatment and outcome. In spite of excellent survival, which is especially true in the case of CPP, surgical resection may carry significant risks in an immature baby. Given the neonatal low blood volume and increased vascularity of the tumors, there is potential risk for hemorrhage. Although advances in neurosurgical techniques have led to a greater degree of complete surgical resections, survival for the perinatal CPC group remains low even with multimodality therapies. CONCLUSION Perinatal CPTs have variable overall survivals depending on degree of surgical resection and tumor biology. An increased understanding of the molecular features of these tumors may lead to improved therapies and ultimately survival.

Abstract
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to summarise and to present the experience of the main Polish centre for prenatal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and to discuss the place and role of MRI in antenatal diagnosis, management, and counselling. Material and methods Retrospective analysis of the examinations performed in the years 2001-2017. Results In total, 1221 medical records and/or image files were collected. The full documentation of ultrasonography and MRI referrals, reports, and images was not available in every case. During the first three years 98 pregnant women were examined (approximately 33 per year, one study per fortnight). After purchase of own MR scanner, the number of examinations grew constantly, reaching 208 in 2017, which means almost one per day, and the highest number was eight in one day. We examined 45 pairs of twins, including three pairs of conjoined twins. Conclusions MRI at our Institute is a practically used second-line foetal imaging tool, necessary to confirm, complete, or correct sonographic diagnoses, with important impact on clinical decisions concerning management of pregnancy and of the neonate, termination of pregnancy, choice of the time, place, and mode of delivery, and neonatal care, as well as on counselling. In experienced hands, MRI is to date the last and the best non-invasive method of diagnosis in utero. It is frequently requested by the interdisciplinary team for foetal diagnosis and therapy and routinely performed in everyday practice.

Abstract
PURPOSE Adamantinomatous craniopharyngiomas (aCPs) are complex epithelial neoplasms that arise from the progenitors of the pituitary gland. Although benign, these tumours can be locally aggressive invading vital neighbouring structures such as the hypothalamus, the cranial and optic nerves. Congenital forms of aCPs diagnosed during foetal development are very rare. The purpose of this article is to present with a histopathological and molecular characterisation of congenital craniopharyngioma. METHODS Here we report a case of in utero diagnosed aCP, detected at 21 weeks of gestation by ultrasound, visualised by MRI at 22 weeks and histologically diagnosed at 23 weeks. We provide with histopathological characterisation of rare form of congenital aCPs. RESULTS Detailed examination of the tumour reveals the classical histological hallmarks of aCPs with the presence of stellate reticulum, palisading epithelium, wet keratin and calcification deposits. The tumour demonstrated complete absence of all pituitary hormones and the absence of the neuroendocrine marker, synaptophysin. Immunohistochemistry against β-catenin revealed occasional cells with nuclear-β-catenin localisation and the presence of pituitary progenitors positive for SOX9 and SOX2. Targeted Sanger sequencing revealed no genetic variants in oncogenes CTNNB1 and BRAF, previously associated with CP. CONCLUSIONS In this article, we provide with in-depth molecular and histological characterisation of in utero aCP due to an unknown driving mutation that could represent a sub-cohort of congenital aCPs.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The purpose of this review is to document the various types of astrocytoma that occur in the fetus and neonate, their locations, initial findings, pathology, and outcome. Data are presented that show which patients are likely to survive or benefit from treatment compared with those who are unlikely to respond. MATERIALS AND METHODS One hundred one fetal and neonatal tumors were collected from the literature for study. RESULTS Macrocephaly and an intracranial mass were the most common initial findings. Overall, hydrocephalus and intracranial hemorrhage were next. Glioblastoma (GBM) was the most common neoplasm followed in order by subependymal giant cell astrocytoma (SEGA), low-grade astrocytoma, anaplastic astrocytoma, and desmoplastic infantile astrocytoma (DIA). Tumors were detected most often toward the end of the third trimester of pregnancy. CONCLUSION A number of patients were considered inoperable since their tumor occupied much of the intracranial cavity involving large areas of the brain. High-grade astrocytomas were more common than low-grade ones in this review. Fetuses and neonates with astrocytoma have a mixed prognosis ranging from as low as 20 % (GBM) to a high of 90 %. The overall survival was 47/101 or 46 %.
