Abstract
Background Due to the low incidence of adult fibrosarcoma (AFS), it is difficult for clinicians to assess cancer-specific survival (CSS) in elderly patients based on this study. The study aimed to develop nomograms capable of accurately predicting 3-, 5-, and 8-year CSS in patients over 40 years of age with AFS. Methods Data were collected from The Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) registry. 586 patients were included in this study. Univariate as well as multivariate Cox regression analyses were applied to identify independent risk factors. A nomogram was constructed and validated to predict the 3-, 5-, and 8-year CSS of patients. Results Five variables including age, sex, stage, grade, and chemotherapy status were considered independent risk factors and were used to construct the nomogram. The nomogram was well validated. The C-indexes of the training cohort and the validation cohort are 0.766 and 0.780, respectively. In addition, the area under the curves for 3-, 5- and 8-year CSS are 0.824, 0.846 and 0.840 in the training cohort, 0.835, 0.806 and 0.829 in the validation cohort. Calibration curves were also plotted to show that predicted endings have a well fit for the true endings. Finally, decision curve analysis demonstrates that the nomogram can bring a high benefit to patients. Conclusion We successfully constructed a highly accurate nomogram to predict the CSS of AFS patients at 3-, 5-, and 8 years. The nomogram can greatly help clinicians and patients with AFS.

Abstract
Adult-type fibrosarcoma is a rare and highly aggressive subtype of soft tissue sarcomas. Due to the existence of other spindle-cell shaped sarcomas, its diagnosis is always one of exclusion. The likelihood of misdiagnoses between similar tumour entities is high, and often leads to inappropriate tumour treatment. We summarize here the main features of fibrosarcoma. When fibrosarcoma is appropriately diagnosed, the patient`s overall prognosis is generally quite poor. Fibrosarcoma is characterized by its low sensitivity towards radio- and chemotherapy as well as by its high rate of tumour recurrences. Thus it is important to identify new methods to improve treatment of this tumour entity. We discuss some promising new directions in fibrosarcoma research, specifically focusing on more effective targeting of the tumour microenvironment. Communication between tumour cells and their surrounding stromal tissue play a crucial role in cancer progression, invasion, metastasis and chemosensitivity. The therapeutic potential of targeting the tumour microenvironment is addressed.

Abstract
The scalp is the most frequent site of occurrence of malignant tumors. As an area that is generally neglected by the patient and not closely monitored during physical examinations, scalp tumors can go unnoticed until they become malignant. The present study reports 3 cases of rare giant malignant tumors of the scalp, namely a peripheral nerve sheath tumor, a fibrous tumor and a malignant proliferating trichilemmal tumor, that were treated at The First Bethune Hospital of Jilin University (Changchun, China). Vascularized free anterolateral thigh flap surgery was performed in 2 of the 3 cases. A local flap repair was applied to the third case. The implanted skin grafts remained viable post-operatively and wound repair was uneventful. No signs of malignancy were detected on the edge of the pathological section upon closer pathological examination. In the follow-up period, no recurrence was detected in any of the cases.
