Abstract
BackgroundSacroiliac joint dysfunction (SJD) is often recognized as a contributing factor to chronic low back pain. Nevertheless, studies evaluating the connection between SJD and kinesiophobia are currently lacking.ObjectiveIt aims to examine the occurrence of kinesiophobia and its impact on emotional well-being, spinal flexibility, disability, quality of life and pain in individuals with SJD.MethodsThe study assessed the occurrence of kinesiophobia and its clinical effects in 55 patients with SJD. The Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK) was utilized to measure kinesiophobia. Clinical parameters were evaluated using Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), 36-Item Short Form Survey (SF-36), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), finger-to-floor distance test (FTF), Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and the modified Schober Test (MST).ResultsParticipants were grouped based on their TSK scores. SJD symptom duration was longer in patients with kinesiophobia compared to those without (p = 0.002) and a positive relationship was identified between symptom duration and TSK scores (p < 0.001). Higher mean VAS score (p = 0.047), ODI (p = 0.003) and HADS-Depression sub-scores (p = 0.024) were determined in kinesiophobic group. Although HADS-Anxiety sub-scores were higher in the kinesiophobic group, these scores did not exceed the cut-off value in both groups. A significant association was identified between ODI and TSK scores (ρ=0.467 p = 0.002), and between FTF distance and TSK scores in the kinesiophobic group (ρ=0.307 p = 0.046).ConclusionKinesiophobia has the potential to elevate the risk of developing chronic pain. Therefore, identifying kinesiophobia in individuals with SJD and incorporating it into treatment strategies may enhance rehabilitation outcomes.

Abstract
Visual conditions significantly influence fear of movement (FOM), which is a condition that impairs postural control and quality of life (QOL). This study examined how visual conditions influence sway velocity during repeated one-leg standing tasks and explored the potential relationship between postural control, FOM, and QOL in older adults with and without FOM. Thirty-seven older adults with FOM and 37 controls participated in the study. Postural sway velocity was measured across three repeated trials under visual conditions in both anteroposterior (AP) and mediolateral (ML) directions. The groups demonstrated significant interaction under visual conditions (F = 7.43, p = 0.01). In the eyes-closed condition, the FOM group exhibited faster ML sway velocity than the control group, with significant differences across all three trials. There was a significant interaction between sway direction and vision (F = 27.41, p = 0.001). In addition, the FOM demonstrated strong negative correlations with several QOL measures on social functioning (r = -0.69, p = 0.001) and role limitations due to emotional problems (r = -0.58, p = 0.001) in the FOM group. While FOM influenced sway velocity during balance tasks, visual input emerged as a key determinant of postural control. The FOM group demonstrated a heightened reliance on vision, suggesting an increased need for vision-dependent strategies to maintain balance.

Abstract
ABSTRACTPurposeThis study investigated the effect of frailty and avoidance behavior due to fear of falling on the quality of life in older patients receiving hemodialysis treatment.MethodsThis study is cross‐sectional and descriptive. The study was conducted between January 2 and 31, 2022, with 154 individuals aged 65 years and over receiving treatment in dialysis centers. The study data were collected using the Patient Information Form, Edmonton Frail Scale, Fear of Falling Avoidance‐Behavior Questionnaire, and Quality of Life Scale (SF‐12).ResultsThe Mean Edmonton Frail Scale score was found to be 8.7 ± 3.36, the mean Fear of Falling Avoidance‐Behavior Questionnaire score was found to be 33.17 ± 9.11, the mean SF‐12 physical component score was found to be 34.32 ± 8.51, and the mean mental component score was seen as 41.77 ± 8.35. The Fear of Falling Avoidance‐Behavior Questionnaire was an associated factor in the effect of the Edmonton Frail Scale on quality of life. It strengthened the negative impact of the Edmonton Frail Scale on quality of life. The predictive effect of these two variables in explaining quality of life was 59.3%.ConclusionIt was found that the participants had moderate levels of frailty, moderate levels of activity limitation, and participation restriction due to fear of falling, and low levels of physical and mental quality of life. It was determined that frailty had a direct impact on quality of life. Also, the indirect effect of frailty on quality of life was determined through the role of avoidance behavior due to fear of falling.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the potential classification of kinesiophobia in patients after cardiac surgery under extracorporeal circulation from a psychosocial perspective, and analyse the characteristic differences among different latent levels of patients. STUDY DESIGN This is a cross-sectional study of Chinese adults after cardiac surgery under extracorporeal circulation, aged 18 years and older, recruited from a tertiary hospital in North China. METHODS This study uses latent profile analysis to identify potential classifications of kinesiophobia in questionnaires from 348 patients undergoing cardiac surgery under extracorporeal circulation. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate the influencing factors at different latent classifications. RESULTS The average performance of each indicator in Model 3 is best suited for analysis, Entropy=0.873 and bootstrap likelihood ratio test (p)<0.0001. The result of regression equation shows postoperative time (p<0.001), age, self-efficacy, pain and social support level (p<0.05) were the factors influencing the potential profile classification of patients after cardiac surgery under extracorporeal circulation. CONCLUSION The study identified three distinct classifications of patients: the low kinesiophobia group, the moderate kinesiophobia-high-risk perceived symptoms group and the high kinesiophobia-high exercise avoidance group (HK-HEAG). Addressing kinesiophobia, especially in older male patients during the early postoperative period, is crucial. Enhancing self-efficacy seems effective in reducing kinesiophobia, while increasing social support may not be as beneficial for the HK-HEAG. These findings provide a basis for implementing preventive interventions in cardiac rehabilitation. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Kinesiophobia has a major health impact on patients with Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in their functional and physical activities, which leads to poor outcomes, loss of motivation, loss of mobility, and decreased quality of life. Despite the burden of kinesiophobia among MSDs, there is limited evidence about the burden of kinesiophobia in Ethiopia. Thus, this study aimed to assess the prevalence and its associated factors of kinesiophobia among MSD patients attending physiotherapy outpatient clinics. METHOD An institutional multi-center cross-sectional study was conducted from February to April 2023 with a sample size of 424. A systematic random sampling technique and face-to-face interviews using a structured questionnaire and chart review were used. The collected data was entered into Epi-data version 4.6.0.6 and analyzed using SPSS version 25. Binary logistic regression analysis was employed to identify the potential candidates for multivariable logistic regression with a p-value less than 0.25. Finally, multivariate logistic regression analysis was employed and variables at p < 0.05 with 95% CI were considered statistically significant contributors to kinesiophobia. RESULT The overall prevalence of kinesiophobia among MSD patients was 48.3% (95% CI, 43.3-53.3). Being overweight and obese BMI value (AOR = 3.98; 95% CI, 2.17-7.29), having moderate pain level (AOR = 3.31; 95% CI, 1.51-7.26), having severe pain level (AOR = 9.29; 95% CI, 3.79-22.77), physical inactivity (AOR = 3.00; 95% CI = 1.84-4.89), anxiety (AOR = 2.57; 95% CI = 1.57-4.19), and depression (AOR = 8.21; 95% CI = 3.47-19.46) were significantly associated with kinesiophobia among musculoskeletal disorder patients. CONCLUSION kinesiophobia is a public health burden among patients with MSDs. Nearly half of the people with MSDs had reported kinesiophobia. Being overweight and obese BMI value, pain severity level, physical inactivity, anxiety, and depressive symptoms were significantly associated with kinesiophobia. Thus, we suggest screening for kinesiophobia, be physically active, avoiding being overweight and obese, and managing depression, anxiety and pain will help to reduce the occurrence of kinesiophobia.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to assess the efficacy of mirror neuron system-based therapy for managing pain and improving motor and upper limb function in patients with upper limb orthopedic conditions. LITERATURE SURVEY Systematic bibliographical searches of the PubMed, SCOPUS, and CENTRAL registries and databases up to September 2023 were conducted to find randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the efficacy of mirror neuron system-based therapy for rehabilitation of upper limb orthopedic conditions. METHODOLOGY Two reviewers assessed the RCTs using a Cochrane risk-of-bias tool and extracted data from studies with similar outcome measures in the domains of pain, motor function, or functional score, which were pooled into meta-analyses. SYNTHESIS The review included 13 studies to compare the efficacy of mirror neuron system-based therapy with that of conventional rehabilitation programs. The therapy reduced pain intensity (mean difference [MD] 2.04, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.46-2.63) and kinesiophobia (MD 8.43, 95% CI 6.98 to 9.88), and increased grip strength (MD 1.86, 95% CI 0.28-3.45). The therapy also improved upper limb functional outcomes as assessed by the 30-item Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) questionnaire score (MD 13.52, 95% CI 10.63-16.41). However, the outcomes as assessed by the 11-item QuickDASH questionnaire and the Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI) were not superior to conventional rehabilitation. CONCLUSIONS Mirror neuron system-based therapy for rehabilitation of upper limb orthopedic conditions may reduce pain intensity and kinesophobia, and improve grip strength and DASH scores compared with conventional rehabilitation programs. However, this interpretation is limited by the heterogeneity and various quality of the RCTs included in our meta-analysis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES (1) To examine if a more accessible built environment (BE) is significantly associated with better knee function outcomes in knee osteoarthritis (OA) patients. (2) To assess if the relationship between BE and knee function is mediated by fear of movement and self-efficacy. DESIGN Cross-sectional study. SETTING Two tertiary hospitals in Singapore. PARTICIPANTS 212 knee OA patients (mean: 63.81±8.27 years old), majority female (69.8%). INCLUSION CRITERIA (i) meets National Institute for Health and Care Excellence criteria for knee OA, (ii) independent community ambulant. EXCLUSION CRITERIA (i) alternative diagnosis to knee OA, (ii) secondary osteoarthritis, (iii) severe medical and/or cognitive comorbidity impairing activities of daily living, (iv) previous knee arthroplasty, (v) wheelchair bound, or (vi) pregnant. PRIMARY AND SECONDARY OUTCOME MEASURES; STATISTICS: How self-efficacy (Arthritis Self-Efficacy Scale-8 (ASES-8)) and fear of movement (Brief Fear of Movement (BFOM)) mediates impact of overall BE (IPAQ-Environment module: Access to Destinations) and five item-specific domains of BE accessibility on knee function (Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score-12 (KOOS-12)). For variables significantly correlated with BE and KOOS-12 in bivariate Pearson correlation tests, mediation analysis was performed with confounders adjusted. RESULTS Total BE (r=0.142, p=0.038) and accessibility to transit station (r=0.161, p=0.019) were positively correlated with KOOS-12. Structural barriers (r=-0.138, p=0.045) were negatively correlated with KOOS-12. ASES-8 was a significant mediator in the relationship between accessibility to transit station and KOOS-12 (coeff=0.87, 95% CI=(0.24, 1.69), p=0.005) and between total BE and KOOS-12 (coeff=0.25, 95% CI=(0.10, 0.45), p=0.004). BFOM was a marginally significant mediator between structural barriers and KOOS-12 (coeff=-0.36, 95% CI=(-0.86, -0.02); p=0.054). CONCLUSION More accessible BE and lesser structural barriers in the BE are associated with better knee function. Self-efficacy mediates the relationship between overall BE accessibility and knee function. Fear of movement mediates the negative association between barriers in the BE and knee function.Applications include assessing BE barriers and psychosocial mediators in clinician consultations, developing multidisciplinary integrated care models and urban designers planning mobility friendly BEs. Abstract
Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a prevalent degenerative joint disease associated with pain, disability, and functional limitations. Kinesiophobia, the fear of movement, has been linked to disability and pain in KOA patients. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between kinesiophobia and symptoms of KOA. A comprehensive literature search was conducted in four electronic databases (PubMed/Medline, Web of Science, Scopus and Science Direct) with the following inclusion criteria: 1) recruited participants with diagnostic of knee osteoarthritis; 2) measures of pain, disability and/or functional limitation through questionnaires or physical tests; 3) articles exploring the correlation between kinesiophobia, and pain, disability, and/or functional limitation as principal or secondary outcome; 4) primary data studies (observational and experimental). A total of 17 studies involving 1,574 participants (mean age 61.04 ± 5.79 years) were included in the corresponding meta-analyses. Results showed a moderate correlation between kinesiophobia and disability (r = 0.519; p-value=0.004), and fair correlations of kinesiophobia with pain (r = 0.362; p-value<0.001), and functional limitation (r = 0.270; p-value<0.001). Despite high heterogeneity (I2: 89.4% for pain, 94.6% for disability, and 90.4% for functional limitation), 52% of studies displayed low risk of bias. In conclusion, kinesiophobia positively correlates with pain, disability, and functional limitation in KOA patients.

Abstract
Numerous cultural adaptations of the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia 11-item version (TSK-11) scale have emerged since the original version was introduced. We conducted a (COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments) COSMIN-informed systematic review of measurement properties to identify the cross-cultural adaptation of the TSK-11 and report, critically appraise, and systematize its measurement properties. Six databases were searched for studies published since 2005. Studies reporting on the measurement properties of culturally adapted versions of the TSK-11, published in English, Portuguese, and Spanish, were considered for inclusion. The results were synthesized by measurement properties and rated against the COSMIN criteria for good measurement properties. The quality of the evidence was assessed using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation approach and presented in a summary of findings table. Twenty-three studies were included, and cultural adaptations for 15 languages were identified: English, Chinese, Cantonese, Swedish, German, Dutch, Arabic, Turkish, Danish, Spanish, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, Marathi, Thai, and Persian. There is "high" certainty in the evidence for "sufficient" criterion validity (TSK-17, r = .84) and "insufficient" measurement error (small detectable change range 5.6-6.16). "Moderate" certainty in the evidence for "sufficient" construct validity (87.8% of hypotheses confirmed), test-retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient2,1 = .747-.87), and "low" certainty in evidence for "sufficient" responsiveness. The numerous sources of heterogeneity prevent conclusions from being drawn regarding structural validity. Measurement error, responsiveness, and structural validity of the TSK-11 require further investigation. Clinicians should complement the use of TSK-11 with other instruments. Future studies on the structural validity of the questionnaire should standardize the data analysis methods. PERSPECTIVE: This article presents the measurement properties of the cross-cultural adaptations of the TSK-11. Clinicians should be aware that cultural and clinical aspects may influence the structural validity of the questionnaire. Using the TSK-11 as a stand-alone instrument may omit relevant clinical progression in the patient's condition.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pain catastrophization (PC) is related to motor control changes in individuals with nonspecific chronic low back pain (NSCLBP). However, differences in dynamic balance control based on the level of PC still remain unclear in these individuals. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to compare the dynamic balance control between healthy controls and individuals with NSCLBP with high and low PC. METHODS Forty individuals with NSCLBP and 20 healthy participants were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. Individuals with NSCLBP were classified into two groups of high and low PC. Dynamic balance control was assessed using the Modified Star Excursion Balance Test (MSEBT), Five-Time Sit-to-Stand Test (FTSST), and Timed Up and Go Test (TUGT). RESULTS Statistical analyses showed that mean values of reach distances in the anterior, posteromedial, and posterolateral directions of the MSEBT were significantly lower in individuals with NSCLBP with high PC compared to low PC (p = .04, p = .01, and p = .04, respectively) and healthy controls (p < .001, p = .001, and p = .006, respectively). In addition, for both the FTSS and TUG tests, the mean time was significantly greater in individuals with NSCLBP with high PC compared to low PC (p < .001 and p = .004, respectively) and healthy controls (p < .001). CONCLUSIONS Our results showed poor dynamic balance control in individuals with NSCLBP with high PC. This suggests that PC could contribute to the impaired dynamic balance control in individuals with NSCLBP. Combining balance exercises and cognitive-behavioral treatments targeting PC may be useful for the improvement of dynamic balance control in individuals with NSCLBP with high PC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chronic pain was associated with a higher risk of mental disorders (e.g., depression and anxiety). However, the role of 24-h movement behaviors in the association remains unclear. METHODS A total of 72,800 participants with accelerometer data and free of mental disorders from the UK Biobank were analyzed. The compositional mediation model and isotemporal substitution model were used to explore the associations between chronic pain, 24-h movement behaviors, and the incidence of overall mental disorders, depression, and anxiety. RESULTS With a median follow-up of 13.36 years, participants with chronic pain had a higher rate of incident overall mental disorders (hazard ratio (HR): 1.281, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.219 to 1.344), anxiety (HR: 1.391, 95% CI: 1.280 to 1.536), and depression (HR: 1.703, 95% CI: 1.551 to 1.871). Increased sedentary behavior (SB) and reduced moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) caused by chronic pain both increased the risk of mental disorders. Twenty-four-hour movement behaviors explained the relationship between chronic pain and overall mental disorders, depression, and anxiety by 10.77%, 5.70%, and 6.86%, respectively. Interaction effects were found between MVPA and chronic pain when predicting the incidence of depression and between MVPA, sleep (SLP), and chronic pain when predicting the incidence of mental disorders. People with chronic pain would recommend at least 0.5 h per day of MVPA and 7 h per day of SLP and restricting SB below 11.5 h per day. CONCLUSIONS Twenty-four-hour movement behaviors played a significant mediating role in the association between chronic pain and mental disorders. Individuals with chronic pain should engage in more MVPA, less sedentary behavior, and have 7-h sleep per day.

Abstract
Purpose To examine age- and sex-related differences in postoperative functional outcomes at approximately 6 months after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). Methods In this study, patients who underwent primary ACLR performed a series of return-to-sport functional tests at 5 to 8 months after surgery. Functional tests included strength tests (knee extensors, knee flexors, hip abductors, and hip extensors), a balance test (Y-balance composite score), and hop tests (single, triple, crossover, and 6-m timed hop tests). Limb symmetry was calculated to compare the reconstructed limb with the uninvolved limb. A 2-way multivariate analysis of covariance was used, and effect size was calculated for data analysis. Results A total of 176 subjects were included in this study. There were no significant interaction between age and sex on return-to-sport functional tests after ACLR. Also, no main effects of age and sex on return-to-sport functional tests were found in our data. Conclusions Age and sex do not significantly affect functional test performance after ACLR 6 months postoperatively. Level of Evidence Level III, retrospective review of prospective cohort study.

Abstract
In younger populations, risk factors from psychologically-focused theoretical models have become accepted as primary drivers behind the persistence of low back pain (LBP), but these risk factors have not been thoroughly assessed in older adult populations (60-85 years). To address this knowledge gap, we sought to examine longitudinal associations between both general and pain-related psychological risk factors and future pain intensity, LBP-related disability, and physical function (gait speed) outcomes in older adults with chronic LBP (n = 250). Questionnaires for general (ie, depressive symptoms) and pain-related psychological risk factors (ie, fear-avoidance beliefs, pain catastrophizing, and kinesiophobia) were collected at baseline. Questionnaire values were entered into principal component analysis to yield a combined psychological component score. LBP intensity (pain thermometers), LBP-related disability (Quebec Back Pain Disability Scale), and gait speed were measured at baseline and 12-month follow-up. Multiple linear regression was used to examine adjusted associations between baseline psychological component scores and each prospective outcome. The baseline psychological component score failed to independently predict 12-month LBP-related disability and gait speed after adjustment for baseline outcomes. Though the psychological component score was associated with 12-month LBP intensity after adjusting for baseline LBP intensity, this association diminished with full adjustment for other baseline characteristics. Cumulatively, general and pain-related psychological risk factors did not independently predict longitudinal pain, disability, and physical function outcomes in this cohort. Compared to younger populations with this condition, general and pain-related psychological risk factors may have less influence on the maintenance of chronic LBP in older adults. PERSPECTIVE: This article failed to establish consistent independent relationships between psychological factors and worse longitudinal pain, disability, and physical function outcomes in older adults with chronic LBP. The findings highlight a need to determine other age-specific biopsychosocial risk factors that may impact the maintenance of chronic pain in this patient population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Myofascial pelvic pain (MFPP), which is identified by tender points in the pelvic floor musculature, is a prevalent source of chronic pelvic pain in women. It may lead to physical and mental exhaustion, reproductive concerns, and coping difficulties in daily life and work than the disease itself. Pain-related cognitive processes can affect pain relief and quality of life. Kinesiophobia, self-efficacy and pain catastrophizing are frequently treated as mediators between pain and its related consequences. Greater kinesiophobia and pain catastrophizing have been shown to be associated with adverse functional outcomes, while higher self-efficacy has been related with improved quality of life. Regarding MFPP in females of childbearing age, it remains unclear whether the effects of kinesiophobia, self-efficacy and pain catastrophizing on daily interference are direct or indirect; the influence on each variable is, therefore, not entirely evident. AIM The present study aimed to evaluate the relationship between pain and daily interference in reproductive-age women with MFPP through kinesiophobia, self-efficacy and pain catastrophizing, as well as to identify areas for future investigation and intervention based on the data collected from this population. METHODS This is a multi-center cross-sectional study. The study was conducted from November 15, 2022 to November 10, 2023, 202 reproductive-age women with MFPP were recruited from 14 hospitals in ten provinces of China. The demographic variables, Brief Pain Inventory, Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia, Pain Self-Efficacy Questionnaire, and Pain Catastrophizing Scale were used to measure the participants' related information. The data was described and analyzed using Descriptive analyses, Pearson correlation analysis, and Serial mediation modeling. RESULTS Pain not only had a direct positive impact (B = 0.575; SE = 0.081; 95%CI: LL = 0.415, UL = 0.735) on daily interference, but also had an indirect impact on daily interference through the independent mediating role of pain catastrophizing (B = 0.088; SE = 0.028; 95%CI: LL = 0.038, UL = 0.148), the chain mediating of kinesiophobia and catastrophizing (B = 0.057; SE = 0.019; 95%CI: LL = 0.024, UL = 0.098), and the four-stage serial mediating of kinesiophobia, self-efficacy and catastrophizing (B = 0.013; SE = 0.006; 95%CI: LL = 0.003, UL = 0.027). The proposed serial mediation model showed a good fit with the collected data. CONCLUSION The findings illustrate the significance of addressing pain catastrophizing and kinesiophobia (especially catastrophizing), and increasing self-efficacy in pain therapy, and suggest that functional recovery be integrated into pain therapy for reproductive-age women suffering from MFPP.

Abstract
AIMS Patients with heart failure (HF) can exhibit kinesiophobia, an excessive, debilitating, and irrational fear of movement. This study aimed to enhance the understanding of kinesiophobia in patients with HF by analysing associations with the following variables: musculoskeletal pain, quality of life, quality of sleep, functional capacity, disability, frailty, sex, and age. METHODS AND RESULTS In this cross-sectional study, 107 participants were included, with ages ranging from 28 to 97 years (57% men, mean age 73.18 ± 12.68 years). Multiple regression analyses were performed with all variables, including polynomial regressions for variables with a non-linear relationship. Kinesiophobia was significantly correlated (P < 0.01) with musculoskeletal pain, quality of life, quality of sleep, functional capacity, disability, and being at risk of frailty, while age and sex were not statistically significant. Frailty disability and musculoskeletal pain intensity were variables linearly associated with kinesiophobia, while quality of sleep and disability had a non-linear relationship with kinesiophobia. CONCLUSION Kinesiophobia needs to be evaluated and better understood in patients with HF to improve physical activity and exercise adherence. This study found that musculoskeletal pain intensity, quality of sleep, disability, and frailty risk have a significant association with kinesiophobia in patients with HF. Our results suggest multi-dimensional associations of kinesiophobia in patients with HF, which require further examination and understanding.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chronic shoulder pain may cause significant functional disability and reduced psychosocial well-being. Detailed Case Description: In this case, we propose the use of pain neuroscience education and whole-body cryostimulation (WBC) to treat a 64-year-old woman with severe functional limitations and chronic right shoulder pain. The aim was to overcome kinesiophobia and improve her motor function, autonomy, and quality of life. Functional and clinical assessments were conducted at admission, discharge, and at a one-month follow-up via phone call. The patient's global health, shoulder function, and quality of life showed improvement during hospitalisation and were maintained after one month. DISCUSSION Pain education is crucial in managing chronic shoulder pain, especially in addressing kinesiophobia and promoting positive patient outcomes. In this context, WBC was used as a supplementary treatment to traditional pain relief and exercise tolerance therapies. This can help individuals to participate more actively in their rehabilitation process, ultimately promoting functional recovery and an improved quality of life. CONCLUSION The combination of cryostimulation, tailored physical exercises, pain education, manual therapy, and psychological support created a synergistic effect that addressed both the physical and psychological aspects of pain and kinesiophobia.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sensorimotor impairment following distal radius fracture (DRF) has been associated with a significant decline in function. Joint position sense (JPS) testing is a meaningful and responsive way to assess sensorimotor impairment for individuals who have sustained a DRF; however, there are factors that may influence the results of JPS testing, including kinesiophobia and pain intensity. PURPOSE This study aimed to evaluate the influence kinesiophobia may have on wrist JPS testing and if pain intensity impacts kinesiophobia and JPS in individuals with a DRF. STUDY DESIGN This was a cross-sectional study. METHODS Participants referred from two medical centers with a diagnosis of DRF treated with at least 3 weeks of immobilization were enrolled in the study. Data were collected at 1 week and 6 weeks postimmobilization period. Demographics were summarized with descriptive statistics, and linear relationships between kinesiophobia, pain intensity, and wrist JPS were examined using Pearson correlation coefficient. RESULTS Forty-eight participants were included in this study (mean age 42.9 years). Significant positive correlations were found between the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK) and Numeric Rating Scale (NRS; r = 0.951, p < 0.001), TSK and JPS error (r = 0.942, p < 0.001), as well as NRS and JPS error (r = 0.898, p < 0.001). These correlations indicate that higher levels of kinesiophobia are associated with increased pain intensity and greater JPS error. T-tests reveal no significant difference between male and female for the TSK, NRS, or JPS scores. CONCLUSIONS There is an association for individuals with high levels of kinesiophobia and both greater pain and errors with JPS testing.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Older adults constitute a heterogeneous group, and the focus of the individual physical exercise is often subject to the reasoning and experience of health professionals or exercise physiologists who prescribe them. Thus, this is the first effort to explicitly conceptualise the planning of individualised physical exercise training (IPET) for older adults in an outpatient setting and investigate individual exercise preferences. DESIGN The concept of IPET was developed by researchers, exercise physiologists and health professionals from a real-life outpatient setting using an iterative approach. Health indicators assessing aerobic capacity, strength, balance and musculoskeletal pain/discomfort sites form the basis of physical exercise recommendations. A cross-sectional study was conducted to assess the basis of implementing IPET. SETTING Outpatient setting. PARTICIPANTS We included 115 older adults (70 females) from an outpatient setting with a median age of 74 years. OUTCOME MEASURES Health indicators assessing aerobic capacity, strength, balance and musculoskeletal pain/discomfort sites were collected and informed the concept of IPET that structures exercise programmes based on the individual citizen's needs and physical exercise preferences. Exceeding a health indicator cut-point results in exercise content mitigating the risk associated with the health indicator. RESULTS We included 115 older adults (70 females) from an outpatient setting median age of 74 years. Approximately two-thirds of participants exceeded at least one health indicator cut-point for aerobic training. One-third of the participants exceeded the cut-point for upper extremity strength, and almost all participants >99% exceeded the cut-point for lower extremity strength. Approximately two-thirds of the participants exceeded the cut-point for functional/balance training. The most prevalent site of musculoskeletal pain was the lower extremities. Eight of 20 training combinations were used, clustering the 115 participants primarily in three main training combinations. DISCUSSION This study shows that older adults vary in physical functioning, indicating that exercise preferences and rehabilitation needs are individual. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER NCT04862481.

Abstract
Fear of movement, pain, and loss of shoulder function are the most common problems irrespective of their approach to management after proximal humeral fracture (PHF). However, it has been unclear whether there could be differences between both treatments in early clinical outcomes. It can help physiotherapists to guide in choosing treatment approaches. This study aimed to compare kinesiophobia, pain, range of motion (ROM), shoulder function, and Quality of life (QoL) in patients treated with either conservative (CT) versus surgical (ST) after PHF. In addition, it aimed to determine correlations between fear of movement and seconder outcome measures. This cross-sectional study enrolled the patients having 5-6 weeks (being permitted active movement) after being treated either CT or ST and receiving no physical therapy. Pain, passive and active ROMs, shoulder function, fear of movement, and QoL were evaluated. 42 patients were recruited. Kinesiophobia scores were similar (p=0.55) and moderate in both groups. There was a significant difference in degrees of shoulder active flexion, active and passive abduction in favor of the CT group (p=0.05, p=0.02, p=0.04, respectively). However, there was no difference between groups regarding the remaining clinical outcomes. Furthermore, kinesiophobia showed a moderate negative correlation with energy/fatigue, social functioning, and general health. These findings showed that patients treated surgically did not have more kinesiophobia, less function, and QoL before starting physiotherapy, despite having soft tissue damage and different types of fractures. However, surgically treated patients had significantly less range of motion.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Fear of movement has been related to lower limb activation patterns in older adults. However, insight into consecutive perturbations on stepping strategy while considering fall-related confidence is unknown. RESEARCH QUESTION Are there latency time delays following three consecutive slip perturbations between subjects with and without kinesiophobia when considering limb dominance and fall efficacy differences? METHODS There were 15 older adults with kinesiophobia and 15 age- and body mass index (BMI)-matched control subjects. The subjects stood on the platform during three consecutive perturbations (250, 300, and 400 msec excursions), which were produced by a Bertec device. The subjects completed questionnaires to evaluate the psychological features of their fall-related fear (Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia: TSK) as well as the modified fall efficacy scale (FES). The latency times (msec) measured the time it took for a subject to respond to a translation. RESULTS Overall, the results of the FES demonstrated a moderate negative association with the TSK (r = -0.52, p = 0.004). There was a significant group difference for the FES (t = 2.78, p = 0.01). The FES demonstrated significant positive correlation coefficients (ranging from 0.40 to 0.51) and significant negative correlation coefficients (ranging from -0.41 to -0.61), except for the slow perturbations. The groups demonstrated a significant interaction on consecutive latency times and limb side (F = 5.84, p = 0.02). The latency time during the fast perturbations on the dominant limb (F = 5.53, p = 0.02) was significantly shorter in the kinesiophobia group. SIGNIFICANCE The control group demonstrated confidence during fall-related activities, but the latency times were significantly different between groups when considering the dominant limb following repeated slip perturbations. The kinesiophobia group demonstrated shorter latency times on the dominant limb to protect against potential fall-risks from perturbations. The group interactions on limb side and consecutive perturbations need to be considered with fall-related confidence and improved standing balance in older adults with kinesiophobia.

Abstract
Background The management of fibromyalgia (FM) symptoms on a global scale remains a complex endeavor. This study endeavors to assess the impact of whole-body photobiomodulation (PBM) compared to placebo PBM on pain, functionality, and psychological symptoms in individuals afflicted with fibromyalgia. Objectives The primary objectives of this research were to conduct a comparative analysis of the effects of whole-body photobiomodulation (PBM) and placebo PBM on pain, functionality, and psychological symptoms in patients suffering from fibromyalgia (FM). Methods A total of 42 subjects were recruited from a private care practice for participation in this triple-blinded, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial. Participants underwent 12 treatment sessions, and assessments were conducted at various intervals, including baseline (T0), midway through the 12-session treatment (T1), at the completion of the 12 sessions (T2), and follow-ups at 2 weeks (T3), 3 months (T4), and 6 months (T5). Results Statistical analysis revealed significant reductions in pain at T2, T3, and T5. Additionally, quality of life exhibited marked improvements after sessions at T1, T2, T3, T4, and T5. Leisure activity also demonstrated statistically significant improvements at T2, T3, T4, and T5. Furthermore, kinesiophobia showed significant differences between groups immediately after treatment at T2, T3, T4, and T5. Self-efficacy, when compared between groups, demonstrated significant differences at T3, T4, and T5 (two weeks after treatment). Lastly, pain catastrophizing exhibited significant differences only at T5. Conclusion The findings of this study indicate that whole-body PBM treatment for 4 weeks resulted in significant pain reduction and improved quality of life in individuals suffering from FM. Furthermore, kinesiophobia and self-efficacy demonstrated improvements in both short-term and long-term assessments, while pain catastrophizing showed improvement at the 6-month follow-up. Consequently, whole-body PBM emerges as a promising multifactorial treatment option for FM patients, though further studies are required to validate and strengthen these results.Clinical Trial Registration:Clinicaltrials.gov, NCT0424897.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with chronic ankle instability (CAI) often experience injury-related fear following ankle injuries, a condition known as kinesiophobia. Little research has investigated the impact of kinesiophobia in patients with CAI. RESEARCH QUESTION How does kinesiophobia impact the static and dynamic balance of individuals with CAI? METHODS Fifty patients with CAI were divided into 2 subgroups based on their responses to the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia: 25 with kinesiophobia (CAI-K) and 25 without kinesiophobia (CAI-N). These groups were compared to 20 control participants. All participants performed a single-leg balance test with eyes open (EO) and eyes closed (EC). They also performed the Y-balance test (YBT) with EO. Romberg ratios were calculated as EC/EO and used for statistical analysis. RESULTS No differences in static balance with EO and EC were found among three groups. However, the CAI-K group displayed a higher Romberg ratio in the mediolateral direction during static balance than both CAI-N and control groups. Additionally, both CAI-K and CAI-N groups displayed higher Romberg ratio in the anterior-posterior than controls. During YBT, the CAI-K group showed reduced reach distance in the anterior direction than CAI-N and control groups. SIGNIFICANCE The CAI-K group relies more on visual feedback during static balance in the mediolateral direction than CAI-N and control groups. Furthermore, the CAI-K group displayed less anterior reach distance during YBT compared to the CAI-N and control groups. Clinicians should consider both psychological and physical factors when designing rehabilitation programs.

Abstract
PURPOSE To assess the effect of kinesiophobia or fear of reinjury on patient-reported outcome measures and physical performance measures in patients with chronic Achilles tendinopathy (AT). METHODS Three databases were systematically screened for studies from inception to May 22nd, 2023 for literature investigating the impact of kinesiophobia on PROMs or physical performance metrics in AT. The authors adhered to the PRISMA and R-AMSTAR guidelines as well as the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions. Data on demographics, pain, level of activity, self-reported injury severity, quality of life, single-leg hop performance, and heel-raise performance were recorded. Data was presented primarily in a narrative summary fashion. The MINORS score was used for all studies to perform a quality assessment of included studies. RESULTS Six studies comprising 705 patients were included in this review. Variations of the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK-11 or TSK-17) were used in all studies. TSK scores were strongly correlated with the Pain Catastrophizing Score (PCS) and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) scores and were correlated with decreased Victorian Institute of Sports Assessment Achilles (VISA-A) and Foot and Ankle Outcome Scores Quality of Life (FAOS-QoL) subscale scores. Kinesiophobia was associated with heel raise completion with conflicting evidence on correlations with hop test performance. CONCLUSION Increased kinesiophobia scores (> 35 points), measured by TSK are associated with worse PROMs, including increased pain, decreased quality of life, increased self-reported severity, and is also associated with poorer physical performance measures in patients with AT. Abstract
The study aimed to study the influence of musculoskeletal pain on kinesiophobia in patients with heart failure. This cross-sectional study recruited 107 heart failure patients aged 73.18±12.68 years (57% men) from an outpatient setting. Participants self-reported pain using the Musculoskeletal System Assessment Inventory and the Cornell Musculoskeletal Discomfort Questionnaire. Kinesiophobia was assessed with the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia-11. About 62% reported musculoskeletal pain, with knees (16.8%) and lower back (12.%) being the most painful locations. About 31% reported moderate levels and 24% indicated high levels of kinesiophobia. There were positive and significant associations between the indicators of pain and kinesiophobia. Results showed an adequate structural equation model fit to the data with musculoskeletal pain factors explaining 22.09% of the variance in kinesiophobia. Assessment of kinesiophobia in patients with heart failure with musculoskeletal pain is essential to improve self-care and overall quality of life.

Abstract
Purpose To assess content validity and to modify the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK) to make it suitable for application in patients with anterior shoulder instability. Methods A four-round Delphi method was performed to establish expert consensus on developing the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia for patients with anterior shoulder instability (TSK-SI) using an expert group of Dutch shoulder-specialized orthopedic surgeons and physiotherapists. During round 1, experts were asked to score the 17 items of the original TSK on relevance and construction using the COSMIN guidelines. With this feedback, questions were reviewed and modified. During round 2, experts were asked to score the modified items. This process was repeated until consensus was established. Then, patients were asked to participate in a moderator-guided, three-step-test interview using a Web-based platform to assess the modified scale. Sessions were recorded and evaluated by the working group. The modified scale was finally adjusted on the basis of the input of these patients. Results Thirty Dutch shoulder experts were included, of which 25 completed all 4 rounds, after which consensus was established. One question was added to the modified scale based on feedback in round 1, establishing the 18-item TSK-SI. Sixteen patients with shoulder instability were included, which all completed the three-step test interview. Following this, question 4 (changed to present tense) and question 7 (hypothetical component added) were adjusted, resulting in the final TSK-SI. Conclusions This consensus modification of the TSK to TSK-SI can support the content validity of the instrument to assess kinesiophobia in patients with anterior shoulder instability. These modifications may improve the responsiveness and validity of the TSK-SI, as it does not match all the items of the original TSK. Level of evidence Level V, consensus statement.

Abstract
BACKGROUND While fear of movement is an important predictor of pain and disability in osteoarthritis (OA), its impact on patients with hip OA remains uncertain. This study aimed to determine whether fear of movement, evaluated by the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK)-11, and pain catastrophizing, evaluated by the Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS), were associated with quality of life (QOL) in patients with hip OA. METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted between November 2017 and December 2018. Ninety-one consecutively enrolled patients with severe hip OA were scheduled for primary unilateral total hip arthroplasty. The EuroQOL-5 Dimensions questionnaire was used to measure general QOL. The Japanese Orthopedic Association Hip Disease Evaluation Questionnaire was used to assess disease-specific QOL. The covariates included age, sex, body mass index (BMI), pain intensity, high pain catastrophizing (PCS ≥ 30), and high kinesiophobia (TSK-11 ≥ 25). Variables were subjected to multivariate analysis using each QOL scale. RESULTS In multiple regression analysis, pain intensity, high pain catastrophizing, and BMI were independently correlated with the disease-specific QOL scale. High pain catastrophizing, pain intensity, and high kinesiophobia were independently correlated with the general QOL scale. CONCLUSIONS High pain catastrophizing (PCS ≥ 30) was independently associated with disease and general QOL scales. High kinesiophobia (TSK-11 ≥ 25) was independently associated with the general QOL scale in preoperative patients with severe hip OA.

Abstract
(1) Background: Fear of movement (kinesiophobia) and impaired lumbar joint position sense (LJPS) play a vital role in developing and maintaining non-specific chronic low back pain (CLBP). However, how kinesiophobia impacts LJPS is still being determined. The aims of this study are to (1) assess the correlation between kinesiophobia and LJPS in individuals with chronic low back pain; (2) compare LJPS between individuals with CLBP and those who are asymptomatic; and (3) evaluate if pain can mediate the relationship between kinesiophobia and LJPS in CLBP individuals. (2) Methods: Eighty-three individuals (mean age = 48.9 ± 7.5 years) with a diagnosis of CLBP and 95 asymptomatic individuals (mean age = 49.4 ± 7.0 years) were recruited into this cross-sectional study. Fear of movement in CLBP individuals was assessed using the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK). LJPS was determined using the active target repositioning technique using a dual-digital inclinometer. LJPS was evaluated in lumbar flexion, extension, and side-bending left and right directions, and the repositioning accuracy was determined in degrees using a dual digital inclinometer. (3) Results: Kinesiophobia showed a significant (p < 0.001) moderate positive correlation with LJPS (flexion: r = 0.51, extension: r = 0.41, side-bending left: r = 0.37 and side-bending right: r = 0.34). LJPS errors were larger in CLBP individuals compared to asymptomatic individuals (p < 0.05). Mediation analyses showed that pain significantly mediated the relationship between kinesiophobia and LJPS (p < 0.05) in CLBP individuals. (4) Conclusions: Kinesiophobia and LJPS were positively associated. LJPS is impaired in CLBP individuals compared to asymptomatic individuals. Pain may mediate adverse effects on LJPS. These factors must be taken into account when assessing and developing treatment plans for those with CLBP.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Running is one of the most popular recreational activities worldwide, due to its low cost and accessibility. However, little is known about the impact of running on knee joint health in runners with and without a history of knee surgery. The primary aim of this longitudinal cohort study is to compare knee joint structural features on MRI and knee symptoms at baseline and 4-year follow-up in runners with and without a history of knee surgery. Secondary aims are to explore the relationships between training load exposures (volume and/or intensity) and changes in knee joint structure and symptoms over 4 years; explore the relationship between baseline running biomechanics, and changes in knee joint structure and symptoms over 4 years. In addition, we will explore whether additional variables confound, modify or mediate these associations, including sex, baseline lower-limb functional performance, knee muscle strength, psychological and sociodemographic factors. METHODS AND ANALYSIS A convenience sample of at least 200 runners (sex/gender balanced) with (n=100) and without (n=100) a history of knee surgery will be recruited. Primary outcomes will be knee joint health (MRI) and knee symptoms (baseline; 4 years). Exposure variables for secondary outcomes include training load exposure, obtained daily throughout the study from wearable devices and three-dimensional running biomechanics (baseline). Additional variables include lower limb functional performance, knee extensor and flexor muscle strength, biomarkers, psychological and sociodemographic factors (baseline). Knowledge and beliefs about osteoarthritis will be obtained through predefined questions and semi-structured interviews with a subset of participants. Multivariable logistic and linear regression models, adjusting for potential confounding factors, will explore changes in knee joint structural features and symptoms, and the influence of potential modifiers and mediators. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION Approved by the La Trobe University Ethics Committee (HEC-19524). Findings will be disseminated to stakeholders, peer-review journals and conferences.

Abstract
Introduction Lifestyle-associated factors like physical activity (PA) play an important role in cancer prevention and oncology treatment outcomes. The aim of the study is to investigate the level of kinesiophobia (fear of movement) in breast cancer (BC) patients undergoing surgical treatment depending on socio-demographic variables, lifestyle before cancer diagnosis, stage and type of BC and comorbidities. Methods We interviewed 285 women (132 patients from Greater Poland Cancer Center - age: 55.7 ± 12.4; BMI: 26.7 ± 4.7 and 153 healthy women from control group - age: 49.0 ± 15.7; BMI: 25.7 ± 4.0) using Polish adaptation of the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK). Results Research results show that women with BC suffer from kinesiophobia (>37 points) signi!cantly. Approximately 3/4 of the surveyed women with BC did not know the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations regarding the weekly dose of PA for healthy people and for people with cancer. Before cancer diagnosis more than a half of women (60%) performed PA in accordance with WHO recommendations. 7% less women performed PA during oncology treatment. Almost a half of patients are not physically active during cancer treatment and 1/5 of the respondents declared that they do not know yet if they will be physically active after oncology treatment. The level of kinesiophobia in BC women with comorbidities was the same as in the group of BC women without comorbidities. However, the highest levels of fear of movement have been observed among women with BC suffering also from osteoporosis, obesity and diabetes. In general, higher levels of kinesiophobia were reported among women in less advanced stages of the disease. There were no differences in the level of kinesiophobia depending on the type of BC (hormonally dependent luminal cancers vs. other types). The level of kinesiophobia did not differ between women who were physically active before BC diagnosis and women who were not. In terms of socio- demographic variables, we found one direct association between the level of kinesiophobia (pain) with age - the greater age, the higher level of pain kinesiophobia. Discussion Research on fear of movement in female oncology requires further research (including also chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy and hormonal therapy) and in order to effectively eliminate hypokinetic attitudes at every stage of cancer treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Fibromyalgia (FM) is a multifunctional chronic musculoskeletal pain condition characterised by sensory hypersensitivity. Photobiomodulation (PBM) has shown a positive impact on relieving pain; however, no studies to our knowledge have analysed a whole-body PBM intervention in subjects with FM. The aims of the study were to compare the effects of whole-body PBM with placebo PBM on pain, functionality and psychological symptoms in patients suffering from FM. METHODS Forty-two subjects were recruited from a private care practice. The design of the study is a randomised, triple-blinded, placebo-controlled clinical trial. Participants received 12 treatment sessions. Pain, quality of life, level of physical activity and psychological factors were assessed at baseline (T0), after session 6 (T1), after treatment (T2) and at 2-week (T3) follow-up. RESULTS There were statistically significant differences in pain at 4 weeks (p ≤ 0.001) (T2) and the 2-week follow-up (T3) (p ≤ 0.001). In relation to the quality of life, there were statistically significant improvements after session 6 (p ≤ 0.001) (T1), immediately after treatment (p ≤ 0.001) (T2) and at the 2-week (T3) follow-up (p ≤ 0.001). Kinesiophobia presented significant differences between groups immediately after treatment (p ≤ 0.001) (T2) and at the 2-week (T3) follow-up (p ≤ 0.001), with self-efficacy only showing significant differences between groups 2 weeks after the treatment (p = 0.01) (T2). There were no differences between groups when comparing pain catastrophising at any time. CONCLUSION Whole-body PBM resulted in a significant reduction in pain and an improvement in quality of life in those participants suffering from FM after receiving 4 weeks of treatment. Furthermore, psychological factors such as kinesiophobia and self-efficacy were also improved. Thus, a whole-body PBM treatment is presented as a possible new multifactorial treatment with potential benefits for those with FM and more studies are needed to corroborate our findings. Abstract
Background: Individuals with fibromyalgia syndrome (FM) usually present with a fear of movement (kinesiophobia), which causes their symptoms to be maintained and exacerbated. Kinesiophobia can significantly impact postural control; ascertaining their association is crucial in evaluating and managing individuals with FM. This study aims to (1) compare postural control between individuals with FM and asymptomatic individuals, (2) estimate the relationship between kinesiophobia and postural control in individuals with FM, and (3) evaluate whether pain intensity mediates the association between kinesiophobia and postural control in individuals with FM. Methods: This study enrolled 92 individuals (mean age: 51.52 ± 7.7 years) diagnosed with FM and 106 asymptomatic individuals (mean age: 50.47 ± 6.6 years). The examiners estimated the fear of movement and the intensity of pain utilizing the Tampa scale of kinesiophobia (TSK) scores and the visual analogue scale (VAS), respectively. The postural control variables included anteroposterior (A-P) sway in mm, medio-lateral (M-L) sway in mm, and ellipse area in mm2. Results: The individuals with FM had impaired postural control compared to the asymptomatic individuals (p < 0.001). Kinesiophobia exhibited mild-to-moderate correlations with the postural control variables (nondominant side: A-P sway: r = 0.48, M-L sway: r = 0.49, ellipse area: r = 0.43. Dominant side: A-P sway: r = 0.41, M-L sway: r = 0.33, ellipse area: r = 0.44). The pain intensity significantly mediated the relationship between kinesiophobia and postural control (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Kinesiophobia showed a significant positive relationship with postural control. The individuals with FM with higher TSK scores had decreased postural control. Pain intensity mediated the relationship between kinesiophobia and postural control. These factors must be considered when evaluating and formulating treatment strategies for people with FM.

Abstract
Introduction Although the negative effects of kinesiophobia on functional status in subacromial pain syndrome (SAPS) patients are clearly demonstrated, no study examines the risk factors of kinesiophobia in individuals with SAPS from a biopsychosocial perspective. The present study aims to determine the risk factors of kinesiophobia in individuals with SAPS using a biopsychosocial approach. This study also aims to explore the compounding effects of multiple associative risk factors by developing a clinical prediction tool to identify SAPS patients at higher risk for kinesiophobia. Materials and methods This cross-sectional study included 549 patients who were diagnosed with SAPS. The Tampa-Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK) was used to assess kinesiophobia. Visual analog scale (VAS), The Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI), Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) questionnaire, the presence of metabolic syndrome, using any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS), Illness Perception Questionnaire-revised (IPQ-R), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), behavioral pattern of the patient, sociodemographic characteristics, and treatment expectancy were outcome measures. Results Thirteen significant risk factors of having kinesiophobia were: VASat rest (≥ 5.2), VASduring activity (≥ 7.1), DASH (≥ 72.1), presence of metabolic syndrome, PCShelplessness (≥ 16.1), IPQ-Rpersonal control (≤ 17.1), IPQ-Rtreatment control (≤ 16.3), HADSdepression (≥ 7.9), avoidance behavior type, being female, educational level (≤ high school), average hours of sleep (≤ 6.8), and treatment expectancy (≤ 6.6). The presence of seven or more risk factors increased the probability of having high level of kinesiophobia from 34.3 to 51%. Conclusions It seems necessary to address these factors, increase awareness of health practitioners and individuals. Level of evidence Level IV.

Abstract
Purpose To explore the relationship between pain intensity, pain resilience, pain catastrophizing, and pain-related activity patterns in older adults with chronic musculoskeletal pain (CMP). Patients and Methods A total of 220 elderly Chinese with chronic musculoskeletal pain were recruited from a tertiary general hospital. Participants completed several measures including a demographic questionnaire, Brief Pain Inventory (BPI), Pain Resilience Scale (PRS), Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS), and Patterns of Activity Measure-Pain (POAM-P). Moreover, Process version 3.5 plug-in SPSS26 was used to test the mediation effect between variables. Results The scores of POAM-P in older adults with CMP from high to low were: avoidance (27.39 ± 8.10), pacing (24.25 ± 9.48), and overdoing (16.65 ± 10.95). Mediation analysis revealed that pain resilience and pain catastrophizing mediated the relationship between pain intensity and pain-related activity patterns (avoidance and pacing) in older adults with CMP. Conclusion These results provide evidence for the role of pain resilience and pain catastrophizing in the relationship between pain intensity and pain-related activity patterns. Interventions targeting these factors should be included in activity management programs for elderly CMP patients. It may be possible to reduce the negative impact of pain intensity on activity patterns by improving pain resilience and reducing pain catastrophizing.

Abstract
The prevalence of chronic lower back pain (CLBP) among baseball players is high. CLBP is associated with reduced participation in practice and games. This pilot study examined the factors associated with CLBP among high school baseball players in Fukui, Japan. The participants underwent two health examinations in high school: (1) as first-grade baseball players (baseline) and (2) as second-grade baseball players (follow-up); a total of 59 players who could be followed-up a year later were included in the study. Players were divided into three groups based on whether they had no lower back pain (LBP) (n = 30), improved LBP (n = 17), or CLBP (n = 12) after 1 year of follow-up. Players were evaluated on the physical and cognitive aspects of pain. The Number Rating System, Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS), Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK), Central Sensitization Inventory (CSI), body characteristics (age, height, weight, body mass index, and skeletal mass index), and a medical history questionnaire regarding spondylolysis and baseball loads were used to evaluate the players. Inventory scores were highest in the CLBP group, which indicated that this group had significant pain that affected their willingness to engage in baseball-related activities. The TSK scores in the CLBP group were worse on follow-up. High school baseball players with CLBP were more likely to have lumbar spondylolysis and kinesiophobia, which are also factors related to pain chronicity. Kinesiophobia and the presence of lumbar spondylolysis should be considered when creating an exercise program for high school baseball players with CLBP.

Abstract
The study aimed to examine the effects of vestibular rehabilitation on kinesiophobia, quality of life, dynamic visual acuity, and balance. Thirty vestibular hypofunction patients aged 18-65 years who were diagnosed by videonystagmography (VNG) voluntarily participated in the study. Before and after treatment Tampa Kinesiophobia Scale, World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale-Turkish Short Form, Tandem Stance Test, Dynamic Visual Acuity, Visual Analog Scale to measure dizziness, Subjective Visual Vertical and Subjective for verticality and horizontality perception Visual Horizontal tests were applied. The exercise program was applied for 8 weeks. Patients were observed in the hospital every two weeks. The exercises given in the session were given as home exercises, 3 times a day, for 10 repetitions. As a result of the study, statistical correlations were found tandem stance test, subjective visual vertical and subjective visual horizontal tests for the perception of verticality and horizontality, visual analog scale to measure the severity of dizziness, dynamic visual acuity, quality of life and tampa kinesiophobia scales (p < 0.05). It can be said that vestibular rehabilitation improves the quality of life, balance, dynamic visual acuity, and overcomes kinesiophobia in patients. Abstract
PURPOSE Evaluate the effect of kinesiophobia on functional outcomes following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). MATERIALS AND METHODS A three-phase, integrated mixed-methods review of observational and qualitative studies was undertaken. (1) Systematic search of studies with participants over 12 years old, following ACLR and focusing on kinesiophobia, using the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK) for observational studies. Exclusion criteria included ipsilateral knee surgery and the involvement of elite athletes. (2) Critical appraisal for both design types was undertaken. (3) Synthesis occurred in five stages. Results were reported as a relationship between the TSK and other functional outcome measures. Finally, qualitative results were integrated to explain the results. RESULTS Twenty-four studies (1174 participants) were included with no exclusion based on the quality appraisal. Six themes were identified: (1) return to sport (RTS); (2) activities of daily living; (3) knee-related quality of life; (4) gait; (5) reinjury; and (6) knee disability and physical function. The highest strength of evidence was the negative association between increased TSK scores and both decreased activity levels and RTS. CONCLUSIONS Kinesiophobia affects a range of functional outcomes. Further research is required to identify screening tools and interventions for patients with kinesiophobia.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONKinesiophobia affects the effectiveness of rehabilitation following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, therefore addressing kinesiophobia both pre- and post-ACLR is important to optimise rehabilitation.Validated screening tools are required to identify kinesiophobia in individuals early to allow appropriate rehabilitation.Physiotherapists need to use a range of physiotherapeutic techniques, such as motor imagery and prehabilitation to assist individuals to overcome their kinesiophobia and improve their functional outcomes post-ACLR.

Abstract
A scoping review was performed to examine the extent and nature of research activity on kinesiophobia and fear avoidance in older adults and summarize research findings. Four databases were searched from January 2006 to May 2021. Eleven papers were selected for inclusion, with a predominance of cross-sectional design (54.5%; n = 6). Most of the studies were associated with chronic pain (n = 9; 81.8%). Higher levels of kinesiophobia were found among frailer and older people, predominantly living in care homes. Kinesiophobia and fear avoidance have been related to other constructs of the fear avoidance model, and the conclusions partially support the assumptions derived from it in older adults. Nevertheless, kinesiophobia proved to be a more dominant factor in determining the level of physical activity than pain in this population. None of the studies aimed to test the effectiveness of interventions directly targeting kinesiophobia or fear avoidance.

Abstract
Nowadays, there is evidence related to the impact that psychological factors have on symptoms, specifically vegetative ones, and on the autonomic nervous system in patients with fibromyalgia (FM). However, there are no studies to correlate the level of association between psychological factors and the elastic properties of tissue in the FM population. Elastic properties of soft tissue reflect age- and disease-related changes in the mechanical functions of soft tissue, and mechanical failure has a profound impact on morbidity and mortality. The study has a cross-sectional observational design with 42 participants recruited from a private clinic and rehabilitation service. The Pain Catastrophizing Scale, Tampa Kinesiophobia Scale and Self-Efficacy Scale were used to assess psychological factors. The elastic properties of the tissue in the characteristic painful points, which patients suffering from FM described, were assessed by strain elastography. A low and significant level of association was found between pain catastrophising scale (PCS) and the non-dominant lateral epicondyle (r = -0.318; p = 0.045). Kinesiophobia was found to be related to the dominant lateral epicondyle (r = 0.403; p = 0.010), the non-dominant knee (r = -0.34; p = 0.027) and the dominant forearm (r = 0.360; p = 0.010). Self-Efficacy showed a low level of association with the non-dominant supraspinatus (r = -0.338; p = 0.033) and the non-dominant medial epicondyle (r = -0.326; p = 0.040). Psychological factors and the elastic properties of tissue seem to be associated in patients suffering from FM. The most profound association between psychological factors and non-dominant parts of the body could be related to neglect and non-use of those parts of the body.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To identify important determinants of kinesiophobia in older adults with osteoarthritis of the knee bassed on demographics, social support and pain, and self-perceived burden factors. METHODS A cross-sectional survey of 304 older adults patients with knee osteoarthritis from two hospitals in Jinzhou, Liaoning, China. General Demographic Questionnaire, the Social Support and Pain Scale (SPQ), the Self-Perceived Burden Scale (SPBS), and the Tampa Kinesiophobia Scale (TSK-11) were used to collect the data. RESULTS The results showed that the prevalence of kinesiophobia in older adults with osteoarthritis of the knee was 57.89%. Marital status, education, knowledge of the condition, pain level, SPQ, and SPBS levels were significant determinants of kinesiophobia, which together explained 43.2% of the variance. CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of kinesiophobia in older adults with knee osteoarthritis is very high. Health care workers should take early intervention measures to improve social support and pain and reduce the self-perceived burden, thereby promoting recovery from disease.

Abstract
Kinesiophobia is associated with pain intensity in people suffering from chronic pain. The number of publications highlighting this relationship has increased significantly in recent years, emphasizing the importance of investigating and synthesizing research evidence on this topic. The purpose of this scoping review was to answer the following questions: (1) What types of interventions have been or are currently being studied in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) for the management of kinesiophobia in patients with chronic pain? (2) What chronic pain conditions are targeted by these interventions? (3) What assessment tools for kinesiophobia are used in these interventions? According to the studies reviewed, (1) physical exercise is the most commonly used approach for managing irrational fear of movement, (2) interventions for kinesiophobia have primarily focused on musculoskeletal pain conditions, particularly low back pain and neck pain, and (3) the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia is the most commonly used tool for measuring kinesiophobia. Future RCTs should consider multidisciplinary interventions that can help patients confront their irrational fear of movement while taking into account the patient's personal biological, psychological, and social experiences with pain and kinesiophobia.

Abstract
Nowadays, there is evidence that relates the amount of physical activity, as well as the impact of psychological factors, to the intensity of symptoms present in patients with fibromyalgia (FM). However, there are no studies which correlate the level of association of physical activity, psychological factors and vegetative symptoms in the FM population. The study has a cross-sectional observational design with 41 participants being recruited from a private clinic and rehabilitation service. The Autonomic Symptom Profile (Compass-31) to assess vegetative symptoms, the GODIN questionnaire to evaluate the level of leisure activity, and the pain catastrophizing scale, Tampa Kinesiophobia Scale and Self-Efficacy Scale to assess psychological factors, were used. A low and significant level of association was found between pain catastrophizing (PCS) and Kinesiophobia (r = 0.398; p < 0.01), as well as with catastrophizing and vegetative symptoms (r = 0.428; p < 0.05). Furthermore, a low and significant level of association was also found between self-efficacy and vegetative symptoms (r = 0.397; p < 0.05). No association was found between the level of daily physical activity (measured by the Godin Leisure questionnaire) and vegetative symptoms, nor with any psychological factor studied. There is an association between vegetative symptoms and psychological factors. Nevertheless, more research which takes other factors into account, such as lifestyle and nutritional, is needed.

Abstract
This paper examines the within-day, bidirectional associations between physical activity and self-reported pain among older adults. Older adults (N = 104; range: 60-98 years) participated in a 10-day Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) study. Participants received six EMA prompts/day with a single item assessing pain. Participants wore an activPAL monitor measuring step counts. At the within-person level, on occasions when participants took more steps than usual in the 30 min before the EMA prompt, they were more likely to experience pain at the prompt (β^02=0.0003, p < .03). At the between-person level, greater step counts in the 30 min before the EMA prompt, on average, were associated with less pain on occasions when pain was experienced (β^01=-0.0005, p < .04). Pain was not related to subsequent stepping. Bidirectional associations between physical activity and pain were not documented, but physical activity did appear to be related to subsequent pain.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE In light of the fear avoidance model, kinesiophobia and fear avoidance (FA) can lead to physical inactivity and disability. Previous studies regarding kinesiophobia and FA in older adults have reported conflicting results. The purpose of this review was to identify the reported constructs and assessment instruments used in published studies on kinesiophobia and FA in older adults and to verify the alignment between the instruments used and the constructs under study. METHODS Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses 2020 statement (PRISMA-2020), 4 databases were searched from January 2005 to March 2020. All study types, except qualitative, were eligible for inclusion. The participants were 65 years and older. Studies were excluded in the absence of sufficient data on participant age. Study characteristics, constructs related to kinesiophobia, fear and/or avoidance, and instruments used were extracted independently by 2 reviewers. RESULTS Fourteen articles were selected for inclusion in the study, in which 7 constructs were identified. The most reported constructs were "fear avoidance beliefs" (FAB) (50%; n = 7), "kinesiophobia" (35.7%; n = 5), and "fear of falling" (14.3%; n = 2). The remaining constructs were only approached, each in 7.1% (n = 1) of the included studies. Seven instruments were used to assess the constructs. The Fear Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire (FABQ) was the most used instrument (n = 3) to evaluate "FAB," and the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia-11 (TSK-11) was the most reported (n = 3) to assess "kinesiophobia." CONCLUSION This review identified a large diversity in the constructs and instruments used to study kinesiophobia and FA among older adults. Some constructs are used interchangeably although they do not share the same conceptual definition. There is poor standardization in the use of assessment tools in accordance with the construct under study. Clinical evaluation and study results can be biased owing to this ambiguity.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the current status and influencing factors of kinesiophobia in patients after insertion of peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC). A total of 240 patients with PICC were included. Their postinsertion status and influencing factors were investigated using the general information questionnaire, Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK), Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire, Numerical Rating Scale, and Self-rating Anxiety Scale. The mean TSK score was 36.49 ± 4.19 points, and 89 patients (37.08%) had kinesiophobia. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that factors such as education level, age, monthly income level, catheterization history, face, pain level, anxiety, and number of needle insertions influenced postoperative kinesiophobia in patients with PICC (P < .05). The total variation in the TSK score was 71.8%. The incidence of kinesiophobia was relatively high after PICC insertion. The medical staff needs to undertake targeted intervention measures to help minimize kinesiophobia after PICC insertion, allowing patients to perform scientifically correct functional exercises and attain physical recovery.

Abstract
Purpose Kinesiophobia (fear of movement) is a major limiting factor in the return to pre-injury sport level after surgery of rotator cuff tears. The study aims to gain insights into how kinesiophobia affects shoulder pain and function after the repair of full-thickness rotator cuff tears. Methods A prospective study was conducted to evaluate patients who underwent rotator cuff repair between January 2019 and December 2019 in our institution. The patients were divided into a trial group with a high kinesiophobia (Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia [TSK], TSK > 37) and a control group with a low kinesiophobia (TSK ≤ 37). The indicators of interest included the Constant-Murley scores, numerical rating scale (NRS), visual analogue scale (VAS), Oxford Shoulder Score (OSS), and the American shoulder and elbow score (ASES), shoulder function and strength, and range of motion (ROM) at 3 days, 6 weeks, and 12 months after repair of full-thickness rotator cuff tears. Results In total, 49 patients who underwent repair of full-thickness rotator cuff tears were enrolled, which was divided into a trial group involving 26 patients (mean TSK 52.54) and a control group involving 23 patients (mean TSK 33.43). There were no statistically significant differences in basic information such as age, gender, and length of stay in the two groups. The preoperative and early postoperative functional scores and the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia were statistically significant differences between the two groups. However, long-term postoperative follow-up showed no statistically significant difference in ASES, and Constant-Murley scores, OSS, and VAS scores between the two groups as the kinesiophobia changed from positive to negative. Conclusion Degree of kinesiophobia reduced during post-operative rehabilitation of rotator cuff repair patients, but high kinesiophobia is still present in a large portion of the patients after rotator cuff repair. Patients after rotator cuff repair will benefit from early recognition and prevention of kinesiophobia.

Abstract
Background: Kinesiophobia is defined as fear of movement due to the painful experience of it. The main symptom of fibromyalgia is persistent and widespread pain associated with other symptoms. This study analyzes the kinesiophobia between women with fibromyalgia and apparently healthy women and investigates the relationship between kinesiophobia and physical fitness tests, fear of falling, and the impact of the fibromyalgia. Methods: Fifty-one women participated in this study were divided into two groups: (1) women with fibromyalgia and (2) apparently healthy women. Participants completed questionnaires to assess kinesiophobia, fear of falling, and the impact of fibromyalgia. Subsequently, participants completed the physical tests Timed Up and Go, 10-step stair ascent, and handgrip strength. Results: Women with fibromyalgia had significant differences in kinesiophobia and fear of falling compared to apparently healthy women. Similarly, performance in the physical tests was lower, except for the handgrip strength, which maintained similar values to the apparently healthy women. Significant relationships were found only in the fibromyalgia group between kinesiophobia, the impact of the disease, fear of falling, and the Timed Up and Go and 10-step stair ascent tests. Conclusions: Women with fibromyalgia showed higher kinesiophobia scores, worse performance in mobility tests, and higher fear of falling than apparently healthy women. Kinesiophobia score is related to Timed Up and Go performance, the 10-step stair ascent, the fear of falling, and the impact of the disease in women with fibromyalgia.

Abstract
Background Flexion contracture in the lower extremity is a common finding in the patient with neuromusculoskeletal disorders. However, severe cases due to prolonged immobilization in knee–chest position are rarely established and remain underreported. This condition is associated with high morbidity and reduced quality of life, especially when it comes to neglected cases with missed injury and late presentation for adequate primary care and rehabilitative program. It remains a difficult challenge to treat, with no established treatment protocol. In addition, other factors related to psychological and socioeconomic conditions may interfere and aggravate the health state of such patients. Case presentation A 19-year-old Javanese man presented with flexion contracture of bilateral hip, knee, and ankle joints due to prolonged immobilization in knee–chest position for almost 2 years following a traffic accident and falling in the bathroom. The condition had persisted for the last 3 years due to irrecoverable condition and lack of awareness. In addition, the patient also presented with paraplegia at level L2–S1, dermatitis neglecta, multiple pressure ulcers, community-acquired pneumonia, and severe malnutrition. Prolonged and sustained passive stretching with serial plastering were performed in the patient. By the time of discharge, patient was able to move and ambulate using wheelchair. Progressive improvement of range of motion and good sitting balance were observed by 3-month follow-up. Conclusion A combination of surgery and rehabilitative care is required in the setting of severe flexion contracture. Passive prolonged stretching showed a better outcome and efficacy in the management of flexion contracture, whether the patient undergoes surgery or not. However, evaluation of residual muscle strength, changes in bone density and characteristic, and the patient’s general and comorbid conditions must always be considered when determining the best treatment of choice for each patient to achieve good outcome and result. A holistic approach with comprehensive assessment is important when treating such patients.
