Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze factors influencing the service experience of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examination and psychological status of patients admitted to a hospital and propose targeted solutions, and optimize the examination process and nursing by analyzing the MRI examination experience and psychological effect on patients. METHODS The MRI examination rooms of two tertiary general hospitals in Haikou City were sampled at random, and 206 patients who met the study criteria were surveyed on site. RESULTS (1) The item with the lowest mean score for patient examination services was whether earplugs were provided to the patient during the examination (B8 = 0.47). (2) Environmental logistics experience (16.83 ± 3.036) received the lowest score among the three service experience dimensions. (3) The average anxiety score of the patients was 5.38. (4) There was a positive correlation between the examination experience and the examination service experience of the patients. (5) Patients with higher monthly income had decreased anxiety (coefficient = -2.334), and MRI examination of the extremities relieved the anxiety (coefficient = -4.782). CONCLUSION The environmental logistics factors, poor service attitude, examination site, and income were the most significant factors affecting the MRI examination experience and psychological status of patients, which can be improved by providing information, enhancing the waiting environment, providing targeted patient education, and evaluating the experience immediately.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Foetal MRI scans can induce feelings of fear, concern and anxiety in pregnant patients. The aim of this research was to determine if providing patients with an information leaflet reduced maternal anxiety regarding foetal MRI. METHODS A prospective, three-arm comparative pilot study was performed in the MRI department of a quaternary public hospital in Brisbane, Australia. Three groups of 30 participants (total 90 participants) received differing levels of information about foetal MRI: Group A - no foetal-MRI specific information (current practice at the site); Group B - a basic information leaflet; Group C - a comprehensive information leaflet. All participants completed a survey that explored their pre-scan anxiety immediately after their MRI scan. RESULTS Over 50% of participants in each group felt anxious before the MRI. Participants expressed anxiety towards the general process of the MRI, the outcome or results of the scan, and the safety of the modality. The basic and comprehensive leaflets were both efficacious in reducing anxiety for the majority of participants. CONCLUSIONS Whilst not all patients express anxiety regarding MRI scans, emotional distress surrounding the entire process is prevalent. Providing patients with comprehensive information about what the MRI scan entails (including the scan environment and duration, positioning, breath-holding requirements, and foetal safety) reduces anxiety for most patients. These findings can be used to determine ways in which reduction of anxiety improves the patient experience.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to identify enablers and barriers to participation in MRI for clinical indications and scientific research, and to determine the perceptions of MRI performed during pregnancy. METHODS We conducted a survey of 156 pregnant people in Newfoundland and Labrador including sociodemographic information, obstetrical history, MRI history, and willingness to participate in an MRI. Categorical variables were analyzed using a Fisher exact test and open-ended questions were analyzed using thematic analysis. RESULTS In total, 80% of participants reported willingness to receive an MRI while pregnant for clinical indications compared to 24% for research. Only 10% reported prior knowledge about MRI during pregnancy and most participants (94%) wanted additional information from their physician before feeling comfortable with the procedure. Participants who knew someone with complications during pregnancy were more likely to be willing to participate in an MRI for research (uncorrected P < 0.05). Participants' positive perceptions towards MRI during pregnancy for clinical indications were that it was a necessary and useful procedure, while the negative perceptions identified MRI as unsafe. For research MRI, participants' positive perceptions included that it would add to the advancement of knowledge and the negative perceptions were that it was an unnecessary and risky procedure. CONCLUSIONS Strategies are needed to improve patient knowledge about the benefits and safety of MRI during pregnancy. The present study suggests recruitment for research should incorporate education on safety concerns and relative risk, personal stories about the benefits of MRI in diagnosing pregnancy complications and should highlight the contribution to advancing scientific knowledge.

Abstract
MRI-related anxiety is present in 30% of patients and may evoke motion artifacts/failed scans, which impair clinical efficiency. It is unclear how patient anxiety can be countered most effectively. Habitual preferences for coping with stressful situations by focusing or distracting one’s attention thereof (coping style) may play a key role in this context. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of two patient-preparation videos with informational vs. relaxational content and to determine whether the fit between content and coping style affects effectivity. The sample consisted of 142 patients (M = 48.31 ± 15.81 years). Key outcomes were anxiety, and cortisol as a physiological stress marker. When not considering coping style, neither intervention improved the patients’ reaction; only patient preparation that matched the patients’ coping style was associated with an earlier reduction of anxiety. This suggests that considering individual preferences for patient preparation may be more effective than a one-size-fits-all approach.

Abstract
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in pregnancy is commonly undertaken in the left lateral tilt (LLT) position to prevent inferior vena cava (IVC) compression and supine hypotensive events, although this may be suboptimal for image quality. The supine position may also have an adverse effect on fetal well-being. The spinal venous plexus may provide an alternative pathway for venous return in the presence of IVC compression. This study assesses morphology and blood flow of the IVC and spinal venous plexus for pregnant women in LLT and supine positions to ascertain the effect of maternal position on venous return during MRI. Eighty-two pregnant women underwent phase contrast MRI (PC-MRI) of the IVC and spinal venous plexus in the supine position; 25 were also imaged in the LLT position. Differences in life monitoring, IVC, spinal venous plexus and total venous return between the two positions were assessed. A linear regression assessed the relationship between flow in the IVC and the spinal venous plexus in the supine position. Increasing gestational age and the right-sided position of the uterus on IVC and spinal venous plexus venous return were also evaluated. Hypotension symptoms were similar in supine (10%) and LLT (8%) positioning. Supine positioning decreased IVC height (p < 0.004) and flow (p = 0.045) but flow in the spinal venous plexus increased (p < 0.001) compared with the LLT position. Total venous return showed no difference (p = 0.989) between the two positions. Additional measurements of flow in the aorta also showed no significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.866). Reduced IVC flow in the supine position was associated with increasing gestational age (p = 0.004) and degree of right-sided uterine position (p = 0.004). Women in the left lateral decubitus position who then rotated supine had greater flow in the IVC (p = 0.008) and spinal venous plexus (p = 0.029) than those who started supine. For the majority of women, the spinal venous plexus acts as a complementary venous return system for pregnant women in the supine position, maintaining vascular homeostasis. Further study is needed to assess the effects on the health of the fetus.

Abstract
Infancy is the most critical period in human brain development. Studies demonstrate that subtle brain abnormalities during this state of life may greatly affect the developmental processes of the newborn infants. One of the rapidly developing methods for early characterization of abnormal brain development is functional connectivity of the brain at rest. While the majority of resting-state studies have been conducted using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), there is clear evidence that resting-state functional connectivity (rs-FC) can also be evaluated using other imaging modalities. The aim of this review is to compare the advantages and limitations of different modalities used for the mapping of infants' brain functional connectivity at rest. In addition, we introduce photoacoustic tomography, a novel functional neuroimaging modality, as a complementary modality for functional mapping of infants' brain.

Abstract
The brain is subject to dramatic developmental processes during the prenatal period. Nevertheless, information about the development of functional brain networks during gestation is scarce. Until recently it has not been possible to probe function in the living human fetal brain. Advances in functional MRI have changed the paradigm, making it possible to measure spontaneous activity in the fetal brain and to cross-correlate functional signals to attain information about neural connectional architecture across human gestation. We summarize the earliest MRI studies of fetal neural functional connectivity and highlight unique challenges and limitations inherent in the technique. In addition, we discuss future directions to unlock the potential of fetal brain functional MRI research.
