Video feedback promotes relations between infants and vulnerable first-time mothers: a quasi-experimental study

Supporting the transition to parenthood: a systematic review of empirical studies on emotional and psychological interventions for first-time parents

OBJECTIVES

The transition to parenthood can evoke a range of concerns in parents, profoundly impacting their psychological well-being. The literature regarding the transition to parenthood focuses primarily on functional aspects of parenthood, generally overlooking the psychological well-being of parents.

METHOD

This comprehensive review synthesized studies describing emotional and psychological interventions during the transition to parenthood among participants between 2013 and 2022. A rigorous screening process, conducted by three of the authors, resulted in 18 studies that met the inclusion criteria.

RESULTS

This report provides detailed descriptions of these studies, including their characteristics, demographics, types of interventions, and main outcomes. The majority of interventions focused on mothers and mother-infant dyads, with fewer interventions targeting couples, and none addressing fathers or father-infant dyads.

CONCLUSIONS

The interventions examined were found to be effective in reducing symptoms such as depression, anxiety, and stress among mothers and had positive effects on infants' behaviors, mother-infant synchrony, and co-parenting.

PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS

This review stresses the necessity of interventions targeting the transition to parenthood, especially among fathers and marginalized populations, as well as serves to identify barriers faced by vulnerable and minority populations.

Minding the Baby versus usual care: study protocol for a quasi-cluster-randomized controlled study in Denmark of an early interdisciplinary home-visiting intervention for families at increased risk for adversity

BACKGROUND

Inequality in health can have profound effects on a child's opportunities later in life. To prevent these downstream effects in families at increased risk of adversity, programs are needed to provide support and improve well-being across several domains. The present trial is aimed at assessing the effectiveness of the Minding the Baby® (MTB) home visiting intervention in improving the mother-child relationship, parental reflective functioning, well-being, and mental health, as well as child development and well-being in families at known risk of adverse health, relational, and developmental outcomes.

METHODS

The study is a pragmatic, prospective, quasi-cluster-randomized controlled trial in which seven Danish municipalities were randomized to MTB training in either 2018 or 2019. A total of 250 pregnant women at increased risk of adversity will be recruited (75 care as usual families and 175 intervention families). Care as usual families will be recruited before and after the MTB training. The MTB intervention is an attachment-based, interdisciplinary home visiting intervention offered from the third trimester of pregnancy until the child is 2 years old. The participants are assessed at baseline, and when the infant is 3, 12, and 24 months old. The primary outcome is maternal sensitivity measured by the Coding Interactive Behavior scale applied to video recordings of mother-infant interactions. Secondary outcomes include parent-child interaction, parental reflective functioning, parental mental health, maternal satisfaction, parental stress, and child development and well-being. The treatment effect is estimated as a fixed effect using a binary indicator of MTB treatment, and cluster-robust standard errors based on wild bootstrap are used for inference.

DISCUSSION

This is the first trial of MTB in a Scandinavian context and will include the largest sample yet in a trial of MTB. The trial is expected to contribute to knowledge about the effect of early support for pregnant women, their infants, and their families at increased risk of adversity.

Parent-child relationship outcomes of the Incredible Years Parents and Babies Program: A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial

Background

A warm, sensitive, and responsive relationship to a caregiver is essential for healthy child development.

Objective

This paper examines the effects of the Incredible Years Parents and Babies (IYPB) program on the parent-child relationship at post-intervention when offered as a universal parenting intervention to parents with newborn infants.

Method

We conducted a pragmatic, two-arm, parallel pilot randomized controlled trial; 112 families with newborns were randomized to IYPB intervention (76) or usual care (36). The IYPB program is a group intervention with eight two-hour sessions. In addition to parent-reported questionnaires, we collected a six-minute-long video at post-intervention from 97 families to assess the parent-child relationship, which was then coded with the Coding Interactive Behavior system.

Results

There were no significant intervention effects on either the total score or any of the seven subscales at post-intervention when the children were around 5.5 months old. For parental sensitivity, results were significant at the 10% level, favoring the IYPB group. When examining the lowest-functioning mothers in moderator analyses, we also found no significant differences between the two groups.

Conclusion

In line with parent-report outcomes, we did not find any statistically significant differences between the IYPB program and usual care on parent-child relationship when offered as a universal intervention for a relatively well-functioning group of parents with infants in a setting with a high standard of usual care. However, there was a positive trend for the total score, parental sensitivity and reciprocity with effect sizes in the range of .41-.51. It is possible that a larger sample would have resulted in significant differences for these outcomes.

The Infant Health Study - Promoting mental health and healthy weight through sensitive parenting to infants with cognitive, emotional, and regulatory vulnerabilities: protocol for a stepped-wedge cluster-randomized trial and a process evaluation within municipality settings

Background

Child mental health problems are a major public health concern associated with poor mental and physical health later in development. The study evaluates a new community-based intervention to promote sensitive parenting and reduce enduring mental health problems and unhealthy weight among vulnerable infants aged 9-24 months.

Methods

We use a step-wedge cluster randomized controlled trial design conducted within a home visiting program offered by community health nurses to infant families in Denmark. Sixteen municipalities are randomly allocated to implement the intervention starting at three successive time points from May 1, 2022 to January 1, 2023. A total of 900-1000 families will be included. A standardized program, Psykisk Udvikling og Funktion (PUF), is used to identify infants with major problems of eating, sleep, emotional or behavioral regulation or developmental problems. The intervention builds on the Video-Feedback Intervention to Promote Positive Parenting (VIPP) program, adapted to the PUF-context and named the VIPP-PUF. Children will be followed up at ages 18 and 24 months. Primary outcome measure is the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) at child age 24 months. The other outcome measures include body mass index z-scores, the Ages and Stages Questionnaire Social-Emotional (ASQ:SE2); the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL 1½ -5); Eating behavior Questionnaires; the Being a Mother-questionnaire (BaM13); the Parental Stress Scale (PSS); and the WHO-5 well-being index (WHO-5). Data on child and family factors are obtained from National registries and the Child Health Database.

Quantitative measures are applied to examine the effectiveness of the VIPP-PUF intervention and the implementation process. Qualitative measures include interviews with CHNs, parents and municipality stakeholders to explore factors that may influence the adherence and effectiveness of the intervention.

Discussion

The study examines a service-setting based intervention building on the promotion of sensitive parenting to vulnerable infants. We use a mixed methods approach to evaluate the intervention, taking into account the influences of COVID-19 pandemic running since March 2020. Overall, the study has potential to add to the knowledge on the possibilities of prevention within the municipality child health care to reduce the risk of mental health problems and unhealthy weight in early childhood.

Effect of Infant Care Training on Maternal Bonding, Motherhood Self-Efficacy, and Self-Confidence in Mothers of Preterm Newborns

AIM

This study aims to evaluate the effect of infant care training on maternal bonding, motherhood self-efficacy, and self-confidence in mothers of preterm newborns and examine the relationship between them.

METHOD

The study was conducted experimentally with pre-test and post-test control groups in the Maternity Hospital. The population of the study consisted of late preterm newborns and their mothers (N = 81) who met the inclusion criteria of the study. Data was collected with an information form, a maternal bonding scale (MBS), a perceived maternal parenting self-efficacy scale (PMP-SE), and a Pharis self-confidence scale (PSCS). Mothers of the infants in the experimental group were given preterm infant care training as a nursing initiative.

RESULTS

In the study, the post-test MBS scores significantly increased in the experimental group, with a significant difference between all the sub-dimensions and the total scores of the PMP-SE post-test of mothers in both groups (p < 0.001). The post-test PSCS scores were significantly higher in the experimental group (p < 0.01). The correlation between MBS and PMP-SE (p < 0.05) mean scores of the mothers was positive, a correlation between PMP-SE and PSCS (p < 0.001) mean scores was positive and a correlation between PSCS and MBS (p < 0.05) mean scores was positive.

CONCLUSIONS

The existence of a directly proportional relationship between the variables of maternal bonding, motherhood self-efficacy, and self-confidence may mean that motherhood self-efficacy can be increased and motherhood self-confidence can be enhanced by supporting maternal bonding. Further studies starting from the prenatal period are recommended.

Like Taking a Magnifying Glass Into Everyday Life: Vulnerable Parents' Experiences With Video Guidance in an Infant Mental Health Clinic

Background: Parents are a central focus in clinical infant mental health interventions because of the key importance of the caregiver-infant relationship, especially when dyads are burdened by psychosocial and parental mental health problems. However, knowledge is scarce about the lived experience of vulnerable parents who undergo video-based guidance.

Aim: The study explores how parents in an infant-psychiatric outpatient clinic who struggled to mentalize and remain emotionally connected to their infant experienced helpful and challenging elements in video guidance.

Method: We analyzed the interviews of a strategic sample of 12 parents after undergoing Marte Meo video guidance, using a team-based, reflexive thematic analysis (TA).

Results: We identified four main themes: (a) Handling initial feelings of fear and loss of control; (b) Filming as a disturbing or agentic experience; (c) Feeling validated or devalued in the therapeutic relationship; and (d) Bringing insights from video guidance into everyday life. Therapeutic and existential factors became apparent in the main themes of adjustment to the guidance, experiences with filming, the therapeutic relationship and integration of new experiences.

Conclusion: The parents’ sense of agency, dignity, and shame may be important for their ability to integrate new ideas about themselves.

Implications: Video guidance for vulnerable parents in specialized clinical treatment should address relational challenges, parental mental health, and issues of recognition.

Learning to mentalize: Exploring vulnerable parents' experiences of change during video guidance in an infant mental health clinic

BACKGROUND

Interventions that promote infant mental health face challenges when applied for parents who struggle with psychosocial and psychological burdens. Video-based guidance using the Marte Meo method is used in specialized clinical settings with high-risk families to improve parent-child interaction, parental sensitivity and mentalizing. However, knowledge about the lifeworlds of these parents and their experiences of the therapeutic process during video guidance is limited.

AIM

This qualitative study explores how parents in an infant mental health outpatient clinic who had difficulties mentalizing and maintaining an emotional connection with their infants experienced the change process during Marte Meo video guidance.

METHODS

We identified a strategic sample of parents with difficulties mentalizing and maintaining an emotional connection with their infants through the Parent Development Interview. Twelve parents received video guidance and were afterwards interviewed in-depth. The research interviews were qualitatively analysed via a team-based reflexive thematic analysis.

RESULT

We identified four themes: a) feeling inadequate or disconnected as a parent; b) discovering the infant as a relating and intentional person; c) becoming more agentic and interconnected; and d) still feeling challenged by personal mental health issues.

CONCLUSION

Parents described positive changes in their interactions, in mentalizing their infants, the relationship and themselves as parents, in their experiences of self-efficacy and on a representational level. They also described increased confidence and improved coping despite ongoing personal mental health challenges. The findings suggest that video guidance using the Marte Meo method can be a critical intervention for vulnerable parents but should be coordinated with parents' primary treatments when complex parental mental health issues are involved.

What are the effects of supporting early parenting by newborn behavioral observations (NBO)? A cluster randomised trial

BACKGROUND

Professional support to enhance the early parent-infant relationship in the first months after birth is recommended, but little is known about the effect of universal interventions. The objective was to investigate the effect of health visitors' use of the Newborn Behavioral Observations system in new families.

METHODS

A cluster-randomised study was conducted in four Danish municipalities. Health visitors' geographical districts constituted the units for randomisation (n = 17). In the intervention group, 1332 families received NBO from 3 weeks after birth; in the comparison group, 1234 received usual care. Self-administered questionnaires were collected at baseline one to two weeks after birth, and at follow-up three and nine months postpartum. The outcomes were change over time measured by The Karitane Parenting Confidence Scale (KPCS), The Major Depression Inventory (MDI), The Ages and Stages Questionnaire: social-emotional (ASQ:SE) and The Mother and Baby Interaction Scale (MABIC). Data were analysed with mixed-effects linear regression using the intention-to-treat approach.

RESULTS

At baseline, no significant differences between the two groups were seen regarding maternal and infant factors. At follow-up three and nine months after birth, the change in maternal confidence and mood, infant's socio-emotional behaviour, and early parent-infant relationship moved in a slightly more positive direction in the intervention group than in the comparison group, though not statistically significant. The only significant effect was that the intervention mothers reported higher level of knowledge about infant's communication skills, response to cues, and how to sooth and establish a relation with the infant, compared to the comparison group.

CONCLUSIONS

We found no effect of the NBO system delivered in a universal context to all families in a community setting. The only significant difference between groups was a higher maternal degree of knowledge regarding early parenting in the intervention group.

Marte Meo Counselling given to African caregivers of institutionalised infants a three-case study

BACKGROUND

Studies from Western countries state that video interaction guidance programmes can support caregiver sensitivity in infant-caregiver dyads.

OBJECTIVES

The aim of this study was to investigate if Marte Meo, which is such a programme, could contribute to increasing emotional and social support towards motherless infants at an institution for motherless infants in rural Africa.

METHOD

Three caregivers participated in five Marte Meo Counselling sessions. The first guidance naïve film and the last film were analysed qualitatively and quantitatively and organised according to two supportive categories: 1) caregiver responds to infants' initiative, 2) caregiver takes initiative to supportive interaction, and two non-supportive: 3) caregiver behaves in an intrusive manner and 4) caregiver does not respond to the infants' initiative.

RESULTS

After receiving Marte Meo Counselling, all three caregivers showed impressive augmentation of awareness and sensitivity in their care towards the infants' emotional and social needs.

CONCLUSION

We found indications that professional caregivers of institutionalised infants in an African country can profit on Marte Meo Counselling, showing positive effects on augmenting caregivers' sensitivity towards the infants, and thereby meet the infants' need of emotional and social support.

Finding focus in a difficult landscape: Therapists' experiences with challenging video guidance processes for parent-infant dyads

Marte Meo video guidance uses filmed interaction of the actual parent-infant dyad in the guidance of caregivers. Exploring the challenges that therapists meet in the guidance of parent-infant dyads may illuminate important aspects of the method itself as well as the therapists' role and requirements. This could lead to method development and improved practice, but is hitherto little addressed. In this paper, we explore how skilled therapists experience and handle challenging or failing guidance processes with parent-infant dyads. We analyzed interviews with 13 Marte Meo therapists/supervisors using team-based reflexive thematic analysis. Four main themes were identified: promoting relational growth in a coercive context, building an alliance that feels safe for the parents, looking at positive moments in difficult lives, and handling intense feelings as a therapist. Our findings show that therapists experience specific therapeutic and ethical challenges with a vulnerable subgroup of parent-infant dyads where child protective issues arise, where caregivers' insecurities impede the therapeutic relationship, and where caregivers have unsolved relational or mental health problems. The therapists' role becomes pivotal and demanding with regard to the therapeutic alliance, the therapeutic interventions in the guidance process, and their own need for regulation, supervision, and structure. Identification of these vulnerable dyads early in the process could facilitate a better adaptation and practice of video guidance. Our findings suggest a need for supporting structures, clinical supervision, and training that address these challenges.

Evidence and Open Questions for the Use of Video-Feedback Interventions With Parents of Children With Neurodevelopmental Disabilities

The Video-Feedback Intervention (VFI) is a technique aimed at promoting positive parenting that has been found to be supportive of child development and parent-child interaction in different at-risk and clinical populations. The application of VFI with parents of children with neurodevelopmental disabilities (ND; e.g., cerebral palsy, sensory and/or psychomotor delay, and genetic syndromes) is growing. Nonetheless, no systematic review is currently available documenting whether this type of intervention improves children's developmental outcomes (e.g., behavioral stability and cognitive abilities), parental caregiving skills (e.g., responsive parenting), and parental emotional well-being (e.g., depressive symptomatology). In the present mini-review, 212 VFI records were retrieved from three databases (i.e., PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science), and 10 papers were finally included. Abstracted information included age, diagnosis, methodological aspects (timing, setting, and themes), and child/parent outcomes. Significant improvements from pre- to post-VFI were observed in all studies. Specifically, the VFIs were significantly associated with better children developmental outcomes and parental caregiving skills. Inconsistent findings emerged for the VFI effects on parental emotional well-being. Overall, the current mini-review supports the potential effectiveness of parent-focused VFI interventions for parents of children with ND, despite the presence of open questions that need to be addressed in future clinical trials.

Transitioning Into the Role of Mother Following the Birth of a Very Low-Birth-Weight Infant: A Grounded Theory Pilot Study

This qualitative grounded theory pilot study investigated the concerns and coping mechanisms of mothers of very low-birth-weight (VLBW; <1500 g) infants following discharge from the neonatal intensive care unit in Alberta, Canada. In-depth, semistructured, face-to-face, audio-recorded interviews were conducted with women of VLBW infants. Interviews lasting 75 to 90 minutes were transcribed verbatim and coded using grounded theory methodology. Data saturation and theoretical redundancy were achieved in interviews with 6 mothers of VLBW infants. The core variable of "reconstructing normal" emerged from the interview data. Women indicated that mothering a VLBW infant is an unfolding experience that is continuously being revised, creating a new sense of normal. The construct consists of 4 categories; mother-infant relationship, maternal development, maternal caregiving and role-reclaiming strategies, and infant developmental milestones. Findings from this study suggest that women found the transition into motherhood following the birth of a VLBW infant as a multidimensional and dynamic process. Further research is warranted to confirm these results and to further explore mothering issues with VLBW infants.

Health visitors' competences before and after implementing the newborn behavioral observations (NBO) system in a community setting: A cluster randomised study

OBJECTIVE

To explore differences between health visitors' competences before and after implementing the newborn behavioral observations (NBO) system in four Danish municipalities.

DESIGN AND SAMPLE

In a cluster randomized design, 56 and 55 health visitors were enrolled in the intervention and comparison districts. Only health visitors from the intervention district received the NBO education programme.

MEASUREMENTS

Data from self-administered questionnaires on heath visitors' intention, self-efficacy, knowledge, and observation skills were collected before and after NBO training. Data were analysed using descriptive and multivariable analyses.

RESULTS

Health visitors reported high levels of intention, self-efficacy, and knowledge working with early parent-infant relationships in both groups at baseline. After implementing NBO, the intervention health visitors reported a significantly higher level of knowledge of infant self-regulation than the comparison group. No significant differences were found in health visitors' level of intention and self-efficacy working with early parent-infant relationships, or in health visitors' observation skills assessing the quality of early relationship.

CONCLUSIONS

Health visitors attending the NBO education and working with NBO in clinical practise had a significantly higher level of knowledge of infant self-regulation. A new discussion of how to educate health visitors' competencies working with early relationship in clinical practise is needed.

Maternal confidence after birth in at-risk and not-at-risk mothers: internal and external validity of the Danish version of the Karitane Parenting Confidence Scale (KPCS)

BACKGROUND

Parenting confidence is a key factor in predicting a range of outcomes for both parents and children, such as parental depression, parental stress, and child health development. This study examines maternal confidence in at-risk and not-at-risk mothers and the psychometric properties of the Karitane Parenting Confidence Scale (KPCS).

RESULTS

The total sample consisted of 695 mothers (488 not-at-risk and 207 at-risk) from a community setting. Cronbach's alpha ranged from 0.72 to 0.79, and item-rest correlations ranged from 0.17 to 0.57. Total score improved significantly from 41.75 at two months to 42.41 at six months for the not-at-risk group and increased significantly from 39.51 at two months to 41.12 at six months for the at-risk group. The differences between the two risk groups were significant at both times.

CONCLUSION

The KPCS has acceptable internal consistency, but an overall ceiling effect, with many items characterized by low discrimination. Despite a significant difference in maternal confidence between at-risk and not-at-risk mothers at both two and six months, the total score did not predict risk status very well in this sample. A nine-item version may be equal to the original 15-item version.

Comparative use of the Ages and Stages Questionnaires in the USA and Scandinavia: a systematic review

AIM

The aim of this systematic review was to investigate screening practices with the Ages and Stages Questionnaires (ASQ) and the Ages and Stages Questionnaires: Social-Emotional (ASQ:SE) in the USA and Scandinavia and to identify practical lessons and research opportunities.

METHOD

The review was performed for ASQ- and ASQ:SE-related studies in children from birth to 5 years. From nine databases and 1689 references (published from 1988-2018), 127 articles were included and categorized using Covidence online software. The Critical Appraisal Skills Programme Checklists were used before data synthesis.

RESULTS

US studies primarily use the ASQ/ASQ:SE to detect delays in general and at-risk populations in medical settings, which increases early detection, clinician-referral, and intervention rates. Scandinavian studies commonly use the ASQ/ASQ:SE to monitor developmental-behavioural differences in intervention/exposure-based cohorts. Pre-visit screening yields completion/return rates of 83% to more than 90% and fosters same-day interpretation. When referrals are indicated, systemwide care coordination or colocation with a developmental-behavioural specialist is beneficial.

INTERPRETATION

Practical implementation lessons are reviewed. Research opportunities include investigating and measuring the ASQ/ASQ:SE's 'overall' sections. Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish translations are available but up-to-date norming and validation studies are needed throughout Scandinavia. Randomized controlled trials are needed to investigate outcomes in screened versus unscreened cohorts.

WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS

General and at-risk populations broadly benefited from periodic Ages and Stages Questionnaires (ASQ) and/or Ages and Stages Questionnaires: Social-Emotional (ASQ:SE) screening. Pre-visit ASQ and/or ASQ:SE screenining implementation systems work best. The ASQ and ASQ:SE 'overall' sections are not quantifiable and under-researched.

What are the effects of supporting early parenting by enhancing parents' understanding of the infant? Study protocol for a cluster-randomized community-based trial of the Newborn Behavioral Observation (NBO) method

Background

Support to strengthen the early parent-infant relationship is recommended to ensure the infant’s future health and development. Little is known about the universal approaches taken by health visitor to support this early relationship. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of health visitors’ use of the Newborn Behavioral Observation (NBO) method among new parents.

Methods

This is a cluster-randomised community-based study implemented in four Danish municipalities. Health visitors will conduct the trial, and the geographical districts they work in will constitute the clusters as units of randomisation. The participants will be approximately 2800 new families, randomised into an intervention or a comparison group according to their health visitor. The families are recruited at the first postpartum home visit. Parents in both groups receive care as usual: parents in the intervention group also receive the standardised NBO method in home visits performed from 3 weeks to 3 months postpartum. Data consist of self-reported parent questionnaires and video recordings of a selected group of vulnerable first-time mothers recorded 4 months postpartum. The self-reported data are obtained: at baseline 1 week postpartum and then at follow-up 3, 9 and 18 months postpartum. Data will be analysed using the intention-to-treat method and the analyses will include comparison of change in the primary variables across time supplemented by multiple regression analysis. The primary study outcomes are measured by the following factors: parental confidence, infants’ socio-emotional development and mother-infant relationship. Other measures include parental mood and stress, breastfeeding duration and utility of the health visitor services. Data collection among the health visitors in both groups will serve to monitor any change in practice regarding the work with early parent-infant interactions.

Discussion

This protocol describes an evaluation of the NBO method used universally in health visiting practice. The intervention seeks to support early parenting by increasing parents’ understanding of their infants’ cues. The NBO is currently implemented in Denmark even though an evaluation of the NBO has yet to be made in a community setting in Denmark and internationally. The study may contribute to building an increasingly evidence-based practice for health visitors.

First-time mothers' confidence mood and stress in the first months postpartum. A cohort study

OBJECTIVES

The aims were to describe first-time mothers' confidence, mood and stress 2 and 6 months postpartum and to investigate the extent to which the tools measuring maternal confidence and maternal mood used alone or together at 2 months postpartum predict first-time maternal confidence, mood and stress 6 months postpartum.

DESIGN

A cohort including 513 first-time mothers' self-reported questionnaires concerning three scales: The Karitane Parenting Confidence Scale (KPCS), the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS), and the Parental Stress Scale (PSS) collected 2 and 6 months postpartum. Descriptive statistic, simple and multiple linear regression analysis were used.

RESULTS

First-time mothers' with confidence scores below the clinical cut-off (KPCS <40) fell significantly from 25% to 14% (p < 0.001), symptoms of depression above the clinical cut-off (EPDS ≥ 8) fell significantly from 16% to 12% (p < 0.001), and parental stress as a mother fell significantly from a mean of 32.88 to 30.98 (p < 0.001). The KPCS assessed at 2 months postpartum was the strongest predictor for both maternal confidence (R² = 0.38) and parental stress (R² = 0.26) 6 months postpartum.

CONCLUSION

The results support the assumption that parenthood is a complicated period for first-time mothers characterised by low confidence, symptoms of depression and high stress which improve over time for the majority of mothers. The KPCS at 2 months postpartum was the strongest predictor of the measures used. Further research is needed to identify parents who are struggling, especially for health professionals' whose role is to support parents in their parenthood the first period after birth.
