Abstract
Even though they are crucial for a positive pregnancy experience, many fathers may not be aware of the significance of their role in perinatal care. As it is important to identify the needs of the target population in the initial phases of a health plan in order to ensure success, the current systematic review is the first one to address the reported needs for men's antenatal education. METHODS All studies written in English and published between 1997 and 2021 relevant to the theme were included in the review. The electronic databases of various mainstream journals were used to evaluate 87 studies. RESULTS In total, the validity of 17 studies was determined based on their compliance with the inclusion criteria. According to the review, men's participation in antenatal education can significantly influence pregnancy, childbirth, parenting, couple's relationship, and overall family functioning. CONCLUSION Providing face-to-face antenatal education to men by doctors or midwives is emphasized as an important component of perinatal care preparation because it leads to positive outcomes.

Abstract
Introduction Antenatal care (ANC) provides an opportunity for systematic assessment and follow-up of pregnant women to ensure positive outcomes for mother and foetus. Pregnant women should be offered evidence-based information with support to enable them to make informed decisions. Objective To identify the gap between the current practices and the recommended guidelines for antenatal education services in Oman. Methods A qualitative inquiry was implemented through semistructured in-depth interviews guided by open-ended questions and probes. A purposive non-probability sampling technique was used to select 13 pregnant women who had completed 30 weeks of gestation. The women were selected from 9 antenatal healthcare facilities among them: 7 primary health centers, one polyclinic and one, tertiary hospital. Results Antenatal education focused on four thematic areas of safe pregnancy; safe labor and birth; postpartum care; and new-born care. Regarding antenatal education for safe pregnancy, the findings indicate that most healthcare workers provided pregnant women adequate information to promote healthy dietary habits; cope with pregnancy symptoms; recognize and manage medical conditions, and to adhere to dietary supplements and medication. In addition, the findings revealed that the healthcare team did not provide the required antenatal education to meet the pregnant women's needs to ensure they had safe labor and birth, postpartum care, and new-born care. Conclusion This study is the first of its kind in Oman to provide baseline data regarding the current antenatal education services from the perspective of pregnant women. These findings will help in developing strategies to improve maternal and neonatal outcomes in the country.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Contents and mode of delivery of antenatal educational programs differed considerably. Yet there is a lack of high-level evidence about the delivery of these programs. OBJECTIVE We aimed to understand the experiences and needs of parents who have attended antenatal educational programs. DESIGN Six databases were searched from each database. Included studies were appraised using the Critical Appraisal Skills Program tool. Qualitative data were meta-summarized and meta-synthesized. FINDINGS Seventeen studies were included, and three themes were developed: (1) Contradicting views on antenatal educational programs, (2) Feeling 'well prepared' after attending the antenatal educational programs, and (3) Parents' expectations and way forward for the antenatal educational programs. DISCUSSION Findings revealed that the description of contents of antenatal educational programs needed to be more specific. Mindfulness strategies were well-received by parents in the included studies. Educators should take into account inclusivity and increase educational resources related to individual, cultural and community needs. Learning needs can be assessed before and after classes. Parents with specific needs that were not addressed should be identified and referred to the relevant professionals for continued support. More deliberate actions were needed during the programs to foster social and professional networks for attendees to support them throughout antenatal and postnatal periods. CONCLUSION We consolidated the experiences and needs of parents who have attended antenatal educational programs. Findings can help refine policies related to antenatal care to improve pregnancy, birth and parenthood experiences for both mothers and fathers.

Abstract
Introduction: Prenatal and postnatal education is an essential compound of prenatal care that prepares and facilitates the acquisition of women's skills, necessary for positive experiences during pregnancy, childbirth and postnatal period. Material and method: We conducted a prospective study that included pregnant women who attended prenatal courses. They were asked to fulfil a questionnaire about course topics, utility and impact on birth preparations. The pregnant women included in this group planned to give birth at Bucur Maternity, Saint John Clinical Hospital, Bucharest, Romania. Results:A number of 205 pregnant women answered the online questionnaire over a period of two months. Their age range was between 25 and 35 years (40.98%). Among them, 74.15% had higher education, 85.37% of them were from urban areas, 82.44% were primiparous and 63.41% intended to have natural birth. There has been a growing interest for natural birth among pregnant women in their first pregnancy (68.05%) and also for participating in pre- and postnatal education courses, which was influenced by the level of completed education (65.66% of pregnant women with higher education wanted to give birth naturally). Topics of interest for most pregnant women are mentioned too. Conclusion:In our study, the majority of participants were aware of the importance to get accurate information about the prenatal period, birth, childbirth and the next period, as well as the care of the new-born from specialized courses, provided by medical staff.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT) is effective in curbing rates of HIV infection in children because its interventions reduce the rates of transmission during pregnancy, in labour, and in breastfeeding. Male involvement (MI) greatly influences uptake and adherence to PMTCT services. Lack of clarity on the roles and expectations of men in PMTCT is one of the main barriers to MI. The main aim of the study was to explore the roles and expectations of male partners from PMTCT services in Malawi. METHODS This was a descriptive qualitative study that involved men whose partners were either pregnant or breastfeeding a child, health care workers working in PMTCT services for over six months, and traditional leaders. We conducted 9 in-depth interviews and 12 key informant interviews from January to March 2018. All interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed, and translated. Thematic analysis was employed to analyze data. RESULTS The subjective and community norms and attitudes of men towards PMTCT provide the context in which male partners define the specific roles they render and the services they expect from PMTCT services. The roles of men in PMTCT service were contextualized in what is socially acceptable and normalized in the setting and include supportive roles expressed as accompanying the wife to attend; antenatal care services, Dry blood sample collection (DBS) when its due, keeping appointments when is due to take the ARVs, providing financial support; HIV prevention behavior change and decision-making roles. The desired services within PMTCT include health assessment such as checking their weight; blood pressure; blood sugar and promotion activities such as education sessions that are provided in a male-friendly manner that is in tandem with existing socio-cultural norms and attitudes of men towards such services. CONCLUSION The roles of male partners in PMTCT services are underpinned by subjective norms and what is socially acceptable within a specific context. The services that men require from PMTCT services are influenced by their attitudes and beliefs towards PMTCT interventions. Services should be male-tailored provided in an atmosphere that allows and accepts male partners to exercise their roles in PMTCT services.

Abstract
Background Educational film is a communication tool that helps to present complex information simply and clearly, keeping audiences interested for longer and helping to reinforce important learning. Medical Aid Films produces educational films targeted at communities and health workers, with a focus on maternal and child health (MCH) content. Pilot work suggests that film screenings have attracted male as well as female viewers and have started to increase male involvement in MCH care. We explored stakeholder perspectives and gender-specific responses to educational films screened in a rural district of Serenje, Zambia. Methods A qualitative study using focus group discussions and in-depth interviews with men and women who had viewed the films at least once, and key informant interviews with health workers who helped deliver the film screenings. Thematic framework analysis was used to derive themes and subthemes, and illustrative quotes are used to substantiate interpretation of the findings. Results Men’s and women’s perspectives are clustered around the influence of the films on knowledge and behavior in relation to MCH topics and male involvement and overall community responses to the films. The three themes summarizing key informant perspectives relate to their impressions of the influence of the films on male involvement in MCH and their views on using film to deliver heath information. Conclusion Educational films have the potential to improve women’s and men’s knowledge and awareness of MCH topics, including healthy nutrition and welfare of women during pregnancy, the need to seek skilled care during pregnancy and for childbirth, and the importance of male involvement in supporting the care of women and children. Before widespread implementation, decisions must be made about whether and how to integrate the films with community health education programs, the needs, values, and preferences of men and women and how to present and deliver the film content in a way that maximizes participation of men and women in MCH but does not undermine women’s rights, autonomy, or safety.

Abstract
Background Maternal education is wide-ranging and covers many areas from pregnancy to the immediate postpartum period and childrearing. However, for it to be effective, more resources need to be assigned to key topics. The goal of this study was to identify and prioritize the most important issues in maternal education, so that specific objectives could subsequently be set and learning outcomes evaluated. Methods We drew up a comprehensive list of topics addressed in existing maternal education programs, based on a systematic review of information obtained from the Internet and the experience of the research team. The topics were presented to a multidisciplinary panel whose members were asked to rate them from 1 to 9, and consensus of opinion was reached using a two-round Delphi survey, with consensus defined beforehand as 80% agreement among panelists in awarding a score of 7, 8 or 9. The most highly-rated topics were then discussed and again prioritized by a multidisciplinary team of healthcare and non-healthcare experts, using a nominal group technique. Results Initially, 650 topics were identified and grouped into 80 categories which were then prioritized by 54 healthcare and non-healthcare experts using a Delphi survey with a study participation rate of around 20%. 63 topics were considered very important, so criteria were restricted and only the 24 highest-scoring selected (95% of agreement on scores ≥7 or 80% of agreement on scores ≥8). Using the nominal group technique, a group of 12 experts identified the following priorities: initiation and establishment of breastfeeding, development of a birth plan, identification of problems and self-care postpartum, nutrition and a healthy lifestyle, options for pain management in labor and birth and characteristics of a normal newborn/looking after a newborn baby. Conclusion This study, with a Delphi study and the Consensus among Experts: the nominal group technique, has succeeded in identifying priority topics in maternal education. We need to assess women’s needs in relation to these topics, design an intervention to respond to these needs and evaluate its effectiveness.
