Abstract
OBJECTIVES During the COVID-19 pandemic, global health systems faced unprecedented challenges, as well as in maternal and neonatal health, thus this study aims to clarify the impacts of COVID-19 on maternal and neonatal disorders (MNDs), regional variations, and the role of economic support. METHODS We have developed a counterfactual model integrating Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average and Long Short-Term Memory models to forecast the burden of MNDs from 2020 To et al., 2021, which was compared with the actual burden to quantify the specific impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on MNDs. RESULTS During the COVID-19 pandemic, the burden of MNDs surpassed predictions, particularly in Russia, where incidence was about 10.20% higher than expected. In Tokelau, neonatal disorders increased by 412.35% in DALYs. The incidence of maternal disorders in Russia has increased by 12.00%, with maternal abortion and miscarriage increasing by 23.08%. The incidence and prevalence of maternal hypertensive disorders, the incidence of hemolytic disease and other neonatal jaundice and neonatal preterm birth accelerated. In low and low-middle Socio-demographic Index countries, mortality rates from maternal abortion and miscarriage, maternal obstructed labor and uterine rupture, neonatal encephalopathy due to birth asphyxia and trauma significantly increased. Similarly, countries with a low economic support index saw higher burden for these conditions, with the burden decreasing as economic support improved. CONCLUSION The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately increased the burden of MNDs in countries with lower economic support, highlighting the critical need for strengthened global economic support, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Maternal mortality is a universal public health challenge. ICD-Maternal Mortality (ICD-MM) was introduced in 2012 to facilitate the gathering, analysis, and interpretation of data on maternal deaths worldwide. The present study aimed to estimate the global prevalence of maternal death causes through a systematic review and meta-analysis. METHODS A systematic literature search was conducted using various databases, including Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, Cochrane Library, as well as Persian databases such as MagIran and Scientific Information Database (SID). The search encompassed articles published until August 21, 2022. Thirty-four eligible articles were included in the final analysis. Analysis was performed using a meta-analysis approach. The exact Clopper-Pearson confidence intervals, heterogeneity assessment, and random effects models with Mantel-Haenszel methods were employed using the STATA software version 14.2. RESULTS The most prevalent causes of maternal deaths, listed in descending order from highest to lowest prevalence, were non-obstetric complications (48.32%), obstetric hemorrhage (17.63%), hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, childbirth, and the puerperium (14.01%), other obstetric complications (7.11%), pregnancy with abortive outcome (5.41%), pregnancy-related infection (5.26%), unanticipated complications of management (2.25%), unknown/undetermined causes (2.01%), and coincidental causes (1.59%), respectively. CONCLUSION Non-obstetric complications, obstetric hemorrhage, and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, childbirth, and puerperium were the most common causes of maternal deaths. To reduce the burden of maternal mortality causes, increasing awareness and promoting self-care management among women of reproductive age, and implementing effective screening mechanisms for high-risk mothers during pregnancy, childbirth, and the puerperium can play a significant role. ICD-MM enables the uniform collection and comparison of maternal death information at different levels (local, national, and international) by facilitating the consistent collection, analysis, and interpretation of data on maternal deaths. Our findings can be utilized by policymakers and managers at various levels to facilitate necessary planning aimed at reducing the burden of maternal mortality causes.

Abstract
AIM This study aimed to explore the experiences among postpartum women with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, from pregnancy to admission at a referral hospital in Tanzania. METHODS This was a descriptive cross-sectional design with purposive sampling. Data were collected from semi-structured in-depth interviews with postpartum women diagnosed with hypertensive disorders and who were admitted to the maternity ward of Muhimbili National Hospital. Data were analyzed using NVivo software for qualitative content analysis. RESULTS Fourteen women participated in interviews. Half were primipara and two-thirds had over four antenatal visits. Data analysis yielded four categories and 27 sub-categories. The four categories were: "I'm shocked; I thought I was normal," "The treatment journey," "What health care providers did and did not teach me," "I have a risky future; I hope health care providers can help me." CONCLUSION Women regarded themselves going from being normal to having a risk through the process of experiencing their treatments. They did not expect to be admitted or referred to a major hospital and while they demanded more information and education, they also expressed appreciation for their health care providers. Education during pregnancy addressing their needs and level of understanding is recommended for improvement of early detection and access to the health service.

Abstract
Background A maternal near-miss (MNM) refers to a woman who presents with life-threatening complications during pregnancy, childbirth, or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy but survived by chance or due to the standard care she received. It is recognized as a valuable indicator to examine the quality of obstetrics care as it follows similar predictors with maternal death. Ethiopia is one of the sub-Saharan African countries with the highest rate of maternal mortality and morbidity. Thus, studying the cause and predictors of maternal near-miss is vital to improving the quality of obstetric care, particularly in low-income countries. Objective To identify determinants of maternal near-miss among women admitted to public hospitals in North Shewa Zone, Ethiopia, 2020. Methods A facility-based unmatched case-control study was conducted on 264 women (88 cases and 176 controls) from February to April 2020. Data were collected using pretested interviewer-administered questionnaires and a review of medical records. Data were entered into Epi-data version 4.2.2 and exported to SPSS version 25 for analysis. Variables with a p-value <0.25 in the bivariable analysis were further analyzed using multivariable logistic regression analysis. Finally, variables with a p-value <0.05 were considered statistically significant. Result Severe pre-eclampsia (49.5%) and postpartum hemorrhage (28.3%) were the main reasons for admission of cases. Educational level of women (AOR = 4.80, 95% CI: 1.78-12.90), education level of husbands (AOR = 5.26; 95% CI: 1.46-18.90), being referred from other health facilities (AOR = 4.73, 95% CI: 1.78-12.55), antenatal care visit (AOR = 2.75, 95% CI: 1.13-6.72), cesarean section (AOR = 3.70, 95% CI: 1.42-9.60), and medical disorder during pregnancy (AOR = 12.06, 95% CI: 2.82-51.55) were found to significantly increase the risk of maternal near-miss. Whereas, the younger age of women significantly decreased the risk of maternal near miss (AOR = 0.26, 95% CI: 0.09-0.75). Conclusion Age, educational level, antenatal care follow-ups, medical disorder during pregnancy, mode of admission, and mode of delivery were significant predictors of maternal near-miss. Socio-demographic development, use of ANC services, early detection and management of medical diseases, reducing cesarean section, and improving the referral systems are crucial to minimizing the maternal near-miss.
