Abstract
BACKGROUND The use of nonpharmacological modalities in managing symptoms experienced by patients with cancer is increasingly important in providing holistic care. However, limited studies have reported on integrating nonpharmacological interventions to improve physical and psychological symptoms of women with gynecological cancer. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to examine the effect of a multimodal nursing intervention (MNI) on sleep quality, fatigue, and level of depression among Indonesian women with gynecological cancer. METHODS The quasi-experimental nonequivalent group design involved 50 patients in 2 groups and used convenience sampling. An experimental group (n = 25) received MNI including progressive muscle relaxation and a counseling session; the control group received routine hospital care (n = 25). Sleep quality was assessed by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), depression levels by the Beck Depression Inventory-II, and fatigue by the Piper Fatigue Scale (PFS). Pretest data were collected after 3 days of hospital admission; posttest data were gathered after the intervention. RESULTS The PSQI ( P = .000), Beck Depression Inventory-II ( P = .008), and PFS ( P = .000) changed significantly in the intervention group; the PSQI ( P = .000) and PFS ( P = .000) in the control group changed significantly. The PSQI ( P = .00) and PFS ( P = .000) scores differed significantly between the 2 groups before and after the intervention. The effect size of the MNI for difference scores before and after the intervention was medium effect size. CONCLUSIONS The role of nonpharmacological modalities in managing symptoms experienced by patients with cancer is increasingly important to providing holistic care. IMPLICATION FOR PRACTICE Gynecology nurses can lead the implementation of MNI to decrease patient fatigue and depression and to increase sleep quality.

Abstract
Objective Recently, cancer patients have challenges with self-management. This study aims to improve symptoms of chronic pain, and anxiety and depression associated with cancer by PRO-SELF nursing intervention. Methods Sixty-four patients were randomly assigned to an intervention and a control group from Jan 2016 to Dec 2019, 34 usable cases in the intervention group and 30 cases in the control group were collected. The control group received a routine cancer pain nursing intervention, whereas the intervention group received a PRO-SELF based multidisciplinary collaborative cancer pain nursing intervention. After three months of intervention, the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), Medication Compliance Questionnaire (MCQ), Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS), Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS), Quality of Life Scale (FACT-G Chinese version) and Chronic Pain Self-efficacy Scale were resent to compare the differences in the observation indicators included evaluation of patients' social support degree, anxiety and depression score, quality of life scores and self-efficacy scores between two groups. The t-test and rank-sum test were used for statistic analysis. Results No significant differences were found between groups for pain and medication compliance (P > 0.05). However, significant differences were found between groups in social support, life quality, chronic pain self-efficacy, and self-rating anxiety and depression index scores (P < 0.001). The intervention group report more social support, pain self-efficacy and less anxiety and depression (P < 0.001). Conclusion The PRO-SELF pain symptoms in patients with a cancer pain management programme improved degree of social support, life quality, self-efficacy, anxiety, depression which is worthy of clinical application.

Abstract
Objective: Proper pain control in cancer patients is one of the prime needs of metastatic cancer patients. It is, then, one of the essential objectives of health care workers. The present study aimed to pinpoint the impact of pain self-management education on the pain severity and the quality of life in patients with metastatic cancers using complementary medicine approaches. Methods: This clinical trial study was performed in the Oncology Specialty Clinic of Ahvaz Golestan Hospital on 82 metastatic cancer patients picked based on inclusion criteria. They were randomly assigned to two groups: the intervention group and one as the control group. In the intervention group, pain self-management was taught in the three steps of providing information, skill development, and guidance. Self-management approaches were also practically taught face to face along with feedback. Furthermore, the quality of life was measured at 1-and 3-month follow-ups and the pain severity was measured during 7 weeks. In the control group, the quality of life questionnaire and the pain severity checklist were given to the participants to fill out. Finally, data were analyzed through SPSS version 22 in general and repeated-measures ANOVA and Friedman tests. Results: It was observed that after the intervention, the trend of pain severity during weeks 1–7 was significantly different in the intervention and control groups (P < 0.0001). In addition, a significant difference was observed for the quality of life at 1 and 3 months after the intervention between the two studied groups (P < 0.0001). Conclusions: Findings of the present study indicate a positive impact of pain self-management on improving pain severity and the indicators of quality of life in metastatic cancer patients. Accordingly, the current study findings can help nurses, nursing students, and other team members improve pain control skills and subsequently increase the quality of life in patients with metastatic cancers.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES In this concept analysis article, we will clarify the concept "self-management of cancer pain" by identifying related antecedents, attributes, and consequences to further refine the conceptual and operational definitions of the concept. DESIGN A review was conducted. REVIEW/ANALYSIS METHODS The Walker and Avant method was used for this concept analysis. DATA SOURCES CINAHL, PubMed, and PsycInfo were searched systemically.A total of eight studies on "self-management of cancer pain or self-care of cancer pain" published between 2004 and 2019 were identified. RESULTS Attributes for self-management of cancer pain include self-efficacy, integration of methods for pain relief into daily life, decision-making related to pain management, process for solving pain-related issues, and initiation of interactions with healthcare professionals. Antecedents include knowledge regarding pain assessment and management, cognitive abilities, motivation, undergoing pain treatment, patient education and counseling, social support, and accountability from all parties involved. Consequences include pain control, improved quality of life, and increased opioid intake. CONCLUSIONS Self-management of cancer pain was reported to be a self-regulation process with the aim to encourage patients to use skills attained through development of self-efficacy, so they can actively participate in their pain management. This outcome may enhance their quality of life by decreasing their pain, depression, and anxiety and increasing the availability of social support.

Abstract
Objective
Pain is a prevalent and distressing symptom in patients with cancer which has a significant impact on patients’ physical health, psychological well-being, and quality of life (QOL). Deficiency of pain care, inadequate pain communication, and reluctance toward pain medication contribute to the difficulties in improving the situation of patients with cancer pain. Fortunately, the integration of self-management and professional healthcare provides new opportunities for patients with cancer pain.
Methods
A two-arm randomized controlled trial will be conducted to assess the effectiveness of self-management application compared with routine care among patients with cancer pain. Based on Orem's self-care theory and Naylor's transitional care theory, cancer pain self-management application “Pain-housekeeper” was developed with dual client: patient client and medical client. A total of 120 patients with cancer pain are recruited from two university-affiliated tertiary public hospitals in China. They are randomly assigned to the control group and the intervention group. The patients in the control group get routine care while the patients in the intervention group get routine care and Pain-housekeeper App. The intervention is delivered by registered doctors, nurses, and postgraduate nursing students specialized in pain care. Effect measurements for both groups are carried out with questionnaires at baseline (T0), after 4 weeks (T1) and after 12 weeks (T2). The primary outcomes include pain condition, self-efficacy, and QOL. The secondary outcomes include pain medication adherence, satisfaction, anxiety, and depression. Compliance of data submission, economic evaluation, usage, and clinical data are also considered in the test. Data for the evaluation are gathered continuously during the study period.
Discussion
This article provides insight into the effectiveness of a theory-based self-management mobile application intervention delivered to patients with uncontrolled cancer pain. The results are used to help patients to improve cancer pain control, self-efficacy, and QOL.
Conclusions
The findings of this article provide evidence to support the implementation of an innovative and easily accessible intervention that enhances health outcomes.

Abstract
Background As inadequate pain communication contributes to difficulties in optimizing outcomes of outpatients, we investigated the effect of reinforced education using WeChat App to the opioid titration treatment of cancer-related pain in the outpatient setting. Methods We conducted a prospective study to compare reinforced education using Wechat with care as usual from February to December 2019. Patients in the reinforced education group received reinforced education via Wechat, while those in the control group received care as usual. Effect measurements for both groups are carried out with questionnaires at the baseline and 3 days later. Questionnaires include pain intensity (NRS), treatment-related adverse events, cancer-related quality of life (QOL), sleep (PSQI), satisfaction, anxiety (GAD-7) and depression (PHQ-9). Number of patients whose NRS reduced to less than three points in 24 h was the primary outcomes. Secondary outcomes included treatment-related adverse events, cancer-related quality of life, sleep, satisfaction, anxiety and depression. Results Although there was no significant difference regarding pain intensity (NRS) between the two groups at 72 h, the rate of NRS that reduced to less than three points in 24 h was significantly higher in the Wechat group than in the control group. Patients’ satisfaction was significantly higher in the Wechat group than in the control group. There was no significant difference between the two groups regarding the other findings at 72 h, including pain intensity (NRS), cancer-related quality of life (QOL), anxiety (GAD-7), depression (PHQ-9), and sleep (PSQI). However, no significant difference was found between the two groups for constipation, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, somnolence, pruritus, loss of consciousness, and death. Conclusions Our results indicated that receiving instructions delivered by Wechat resulted an increased number of patients with good pain control and better satisfaction. The study provided insight into the effectiveness of the reinforced education using a Wechat app delivered by a doctor to outpatients in the titration treatment of cancer-related pain. Abstract
BACKGROUND Ovarian cancer (OvCa) patients suffer from symptoms that severely affect quality of life. To optimally manage these symptoms, their symptom experiences must be better understood. Social media have emerged as a data source to understand these experiences. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to use topic modeling (ie, latent Dirichlet allocation [LDA]) to understand the symptom experience of OvCa patients through analysis of online forum posts from OvCa patients and their caregivers. INTERVENTIONS/METHODS Ovarian cancer patient/caregiver posts (n = 50 626) were collected from an online OvCa forum. We developed a symptom dictionary to identify symptoms described therein, selected the top 5 most frequently discussed symptoms, extracted posts that mentioned at least one of those symptoms, and conducted LDA on those extracted posts. RESULTS Pain, nausea, anxiety, fatigue, and skin rash were the top 5 most frequently discussed symptoms (n = 4536, 1296, 967, 878, and 657, respectively). Using LDA, we identified 11 topic categories, which differed across symptoms. For example, chemotherapy-related adverse effects likely reflected fatigue, nausea, and rash; social and spiritual support likely reflected anxiety; and diagnosis and treatment often reflected pain. CONCLUSION The frequency of a symptom discussed on a social media platform may not include all symptom experience and their severity. Indeed, users, who are experiencing different symptoms, mentioned different topics on the forum. Subsequent studies should consider the influence of additional factors (eg, cancer stage) from discussions. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE Social media have the potential to prioritize and answer the questions about clinical care that are frequently asked by cancer patients and their caregivers.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION In recent years there has been an exponential growth in the number of mobile applications (apps) relating to the early diagnosis of cancer and prevention of side effects during cancer treatment. For health care professionals and users, it can thus be difficult to determine the most appropriate app for given needs and assess the level of scientific evidence supporting their use. Therefore, this review aims to examine the research studies that deal with this issue and determine the characteristics of the apps involved. METHODOLOGY This study involved a systematic review of the scientific literature on randomized clinical trials that use apps to improve cancer management among patients, using the Pubmed (Medline), Latin America and the Caribbean in Health Sciences (LILACS), and Cochrane databases. The search was limited to articles written in English and Spanish published in the last 10 years. A search of the App Store for iOS devices and Google Play for Android devices was performed to find the apps identified in the included research articles. RESULTS In total, 54 articles were found to analyze the development of an application in the field of oncology. These articles were most frequently related to the use of apps for the early detection of cancer (n = 28), particularly melanoma (n = 9). In total, 21 studies reflected the application used. The apps featured in nine articles were located using the App Store and Google Play (n = 9), of which five were created to manage cancer-related issues. The rest of the apps were designed for use in the general population (n = 4). CONCLUSIONS There is an increasing number of research articles that study the use of apps in the field of oncology; however, these mobile applications tend to disappear from app stores after the studies are completed.

Abstract
Objective: A huge amount of the efforts made by health teams is dedicated to caring for cancer patients. This study has aimed to investigate the effect of self-care training on life expectancy and quality of life (QOL) in patients with gastrointestinal cancer who were under radiotherapy. Methods: In this clinical trial, 50 patients were selected using the block randomization method. The intervention was performed at Ayatollah Khansari Hospital in Arak, Iran. The patients in the intervention group received three sessions of face-to-face training. The data collection tools included Schneider's Life Expectancy Questionnaire and EORTC QOLQ-C30. Data were analyzed by SPSS version 23. Results: In the control group, 16 were male (64%) and 9 female (36%), and in the intervention group, 14 were male (56%) and 11 were female (44%). Before the intervention, the two groups were homogenous regarding all variables. After the intervention, the mean of QOL was 67 ± 22.62 in the intervention group and 56 ± 18.55 in the control group (P < 0.05). In examining the different dimensions of QOL, improvement in all functional dimensions was observed in the intervention group. After the intervention, the mean score of life expectancy showed a significant difference (P < 0.05) between the intervention group (39.52 ± 5.26) and the control group (31.6 ± 7.13). Conclusions: It was found that self-care training improved the QOL and life expectancy of patients with gastrointestinal cancer who were under radiotherapy. Therefore, self-care training is recommended to improve the QOL and the life expectancy of cancer patients.

Abstract
The objective of the study was to conduct a concept analysis of “self-management of cancer pain” to develop a theoretical definition of the concept and identify its attributes, antecedents, and outcomes. The Rodgers' evolutionary model of concept analysis was used. Literature published from January 2000 to February 2017 containing the terms, “cancer pain” and “self-management” in their title and/or abstract was assessed. Twenty-seven studies were selected for this analysis. Self-management of cancer pain is defined as “the process in which patients with cancer pain make the decision to manage their pain, enhance their self-efficacy by solving problems caused by pain, and incorporate pain-relieving strategies into daily life, through interactions with health-care professionals.” The attributes of self-management of cancer pain were classified into the following five categories: Interaction with health-care professionals, decision-making to pain management, process for solving pain-related problems, self-efficacy, and incorporating strategies for pain relief into daily life. The antecedents were classified into the following seven categories: Physical functions, cognitive abilities, motivation, undergoing treatment for pain, receiving individual education, receiving family and health-care professionals' support, and health literacy. The outcomes were classified into the following three categories: pain relief, well-being, and empowerment. The attributes of self-management of cancer pain can be used as components of nursing practice to promote patient self-management of cancer pain. The categories of antecedents can be used as indicators for nursing assessment, and the outcomes can be used as indicators for evaluations of nursing intervention.

Abstract
Background: One of the most common and important diagnostic methods for the detection of heart diseases is coronary angiography. The aim of this study was to determine the optimum angle of the bed by using vital signals to optimize the patient's position after the angiography. Materials and Methods: This study was a randomized clinical trial (RCT) on participants after angiography who were divided into five groups. The first group was placed routinely in a supine position. In the other groups, all of the patients were placed in bed by angle 15°, 30°, 45°, and 60° upward. In each group, vital signals were measured that included blood pressure, percent of blood oxygen saturation, heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature. All of measured data compared with the pain score has been achieved from numerical pain scale. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics method, variance analysis, and post hoc tests in the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software, version 16. Estimation of the relationship was done by MATLAB version 2011. The level of significance was considered to be 0.05. Results: In various groups, there was no significance difference in demographic variables such as gender, age, height, and weight. The mean of pain score, heart rate, systolic blood pressure, and respiratory rate changed significantly (P < 0.05) but the temperature variation, blood oxygen saturation, and diastolic blood pressure in subjects were not significant (P > 0.05). It showed linear changes between pain and systolic blood pressure, respiratory rate, and heart rate changes. A dramatic reduction was also seen in systolic blood pressure, respiratory rate, heart rate, and also pain at an angle of 45°. Conclusion: This study showed that, 45° was the best angle of the bed to optimize the patient's position after the procedure, based on his/her vital signs and pain score. Thus, in order to relive pain, this change in bed angle is advised to be planned by postangiography nurses in patients after coronary angiography.
