Abstract
X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) is a rare metabolic disorder. Symptoms range from cerebral demyelination (cALD) to adrenal insufficiency and slowly progressive myeloneuropathy. cALD is fatal if not treated with hematopoietic cell transplantation in the early stages of the disease course. This can be achieved through cascade testing or newborn screening (NBS). Due to the lack of predictive measures of disease trajectory, patients are monitored with frequent MRI scans and hormone testing to ensure timely intervention. With this study, we wanted to explore how the diagnosis of ALD, before the development of cALD, and the follow-up program affected patients and their parents. Using semi-structured interviews, we interviewed seven parents of children with ALD aged 3-11 and four patients with ALD aged 18-25. Because NBS for ALD has not been implemented in Denmark, the patients were identified through either cascade testing or after having presented with adrenal insufficiency. We generated five themes: (I) ALD patients maintained mental resilience despite diagnosis and surveillance; (II) patients' concerns matured with age and centered around situations that confronted them with their patient status; (III) parents of children with ALD had both short-term and long-term worries for their children's health; (IV) parents took on a huge psychological burden; and (V) due to its rarity, the diagnosis of ALD evoked a sense of isolation and disease-related loneliness. Overall, we found a large discrepancy in the experiences reported by parents and patients. Despite the small sample size, we identified patterns that suggest that while the early diagnosis took a significant psychological toll on the parents, patients lived relatively carefree lives despite their ALD diagnosis.

Abstract
PURPOSE People with primary malignant brain tumors (PMBT) undergo anti-tumor treatment and are followed up with MRI interval scans. There are potential burdens and benefits to interval scanning, yet high-quality evidence to suggest whether scans are beneficial or alter outcomes of importance for patients is lacking. We aimed to gain an in-depth understanding of how adults living with PMBTs experience and cope with interval scanning. METHODS Twelve patients diagnosed with WHO grade III or IV PMBT from two sites in the UK took part. Using a semi-structured interview guide, they were asked about their experiences of interval scans. A constructivist grounded theory approach was used to analyze data. RESULTS Although most participants found interval scans uncomfortable, they accepted that scans were something that they had to do and were using various coping methods to get through the MRI scan. All participants said that the wait between their scan and results was the most difficult part. Despite the difficulties they experienced, all participants said that they would rather have interval scans than wait for a change in their symptoms. Most of the time, scans provided relief, gave participants some certainty in an uncertain situation, and a short-term sense of control over their lives. CONCLUSION The present study shows that interval scanning is important and highly valued by patients living with PMBT. Although interval scans are anxiety provoking, they appear to help people living with PMBT cope with the uncertainty of their condition.

Abstract
PURPOSE To gain insight into how patients with primary brain tumors experience MRI, follow-up protocols, and gadolinium-based contrast agent (GBCA) use. METHODS Primary brain tumor patients answered a survey after their MRI exam. Questions were analyzed to determine trends in patients' experience regarding the scan itself, follow-up frequency, and the use of GBCAs. Subgroup analysis was performed on sex, lesion grade, age, and the number of scans. Subgroup comparison was made using the Pearson chi-square test and the Mann-Whitney U-test for categorical and ordinal questions, respectively. RESULTS Of the 100 patients, 93 had a histopathologically confirmed diagnosis, and seven were considered to have a slow-growing low-grade tumor after multidisciplinary assessment and follow-up. 61/100 patients were male, with a mean age ± standard deviation of 44 ± 14 years and 46 ± 13 years for the females. Fifty-nine patients had low-grade tumors. Patients consistently underestimated the number of their previous scans. 92% of primary brain tumor patients did not experience the MRI as bothering and 78% would not change the number of follow-up MRIs. 63% of the patients would prefer GBCA-free MRI scans if diagnostically equally accurate. Women found the MRI and receiving intravenous cannulas significantly more uncomfortable than men (p = 0.003). Age, diagnosis, and the number of previous scans had no relevant impact on the patient experience. CONCLUSION Patients with primary brain tumors experienced current neuro-oncological MRI practice as positive. Especially women would, however, prefer GBCA-free imaging if diagnostically equally accurate. Patient knowledge of GBCAs was limited, indicating improvable patient information.

Abstract
Retroperitoneal liposarcomas are a rare entity and are comprised mostly of the well-differentiated and dedifferentiated subtypes. Eight-year survival ranges from 30% to 80% depending on histologic subtype and grade. Surgery is the cornerstone of treatment and compartment resection is the current standard. Mesenteric liposarcomas are extremely rare and comprise more high-grade lesions, with poorer prognosis of 50% 5-year overall survival. They are managed with a similar aggressive surgical approach. This review presents the current management of retroperitoneal and mesenteric liposarcomas.
