Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to examine the publication patterns and present a current view of the field of uveitis using a bibliometric analysis. DESIGN Bibliometric analysis. METHODS AND ANALYSIS A comprehensive search of three databases including MEDLINE, EMBASE and Cochrane was conducted from 1 January 2000 to 31 December 2022. Search results from all three databases were subjected to analysis by Bibliometrix, an R programme that analyses large literature dataset with statistical and mathematical models. Visualisation of collaboration networks and relevance between countries was presented with VOSviewer. RESULTS A total of 26 296 articles were included in the analysis. The field of uveitis has undergone a significant exponential growth since 2000, with an average growth rate of 4.14%. The most substantial annual growth was between the years 2021 and 2022 (36%). According to the corresponding author's countries, the three most productive countries were Turkey (3288, 12.6%), the USA (3136, 12%) and Japan (1981, 7.6%). The USA (243, 31.4%), England (117, 15%) and Germany (62, 8%) are the top three countries that contributed to clinical trials. The average international collaboration of all countries was 2.5%. CONCLUSIONS Uveitis literature has undergone significant growth in the past two decades. The demographic factors of publishing countries lead to their various productivity and types of these uveitis studies, which is closely associated with the countries' scientific research resources and patient populations.

Abstract
PURPOSE The objective of this bibliometric study was to identify the top 100 most-cited articles on the cornea published in the English language between 1980 and 2021 using multidimensional citation analysis. METHODS The data were obtained from the Thomson Reuters Web of Science Core Collection and the PubMed databases. The top 100 articles in terms of citation number were identified and analyzed. RESULTS A total of 40,792 articles related to the cornea were retrieved. The 100 most-cited articles were published between 1995 and 2000. The average time since publication was 19.64 ± 5.75 years. The mean impact factor of the journals was 10.27 ± 17.14 and the Q category of most journals was Q1. Ophthalmology was the journal with the most published articles (n = 10), which represented level 3 evidence. The three most common topics among the top 100 articles were treatment modality, histopathology, and diagnostic imaging. The most frequently mentioned treatments were related to limbal stem cell failure, crosslinking, and lamellar keratoplasty. We observed a negative correlation between the average number of citations per year and the time passed since publication (r = - 0.629; p = 0.001). CONCLUSION Our analysis of the top 100 most-cited articles on the cornea revealed scientific contributions, vital current data related to clinical implementations, and valuable insights into the current developments in ophthalmology. To our knowledge, this is the first study to evaluate the most influential papers on the cornea, and our findings highlight the research quality and latest discoveries and trends in the management cornea diseases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We selected authors from mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan (CHT) to examine citation trends on articles and keywords. The existence of suitable temporal bar graphs (TBGs) for displaying citation trends is unknown. It is necessary to enhance the traditional TBGs to provide readers with more information about the citation trend. The purpose of this study was to propose an advanced TBG that can be applied to understand the most worth-reading articles by ophthalmology authors in the CHT. METHODS Using the search engine of the Web of Science core collection, we conducted bibliometric analyses to examine the article citation trends of ophthalmology authors in CHT since 2013. A total of 6695 metadata was collected from articles and review articles. Using radar plots, the Y-index, and the combining the Y-index with the CJAL scores (CJAL) scores, we could determine the dominance of publications by year, region, institute, journal, department, and author. A choropleth map, a dot plot, and a 4-quadrant radar plot were used to visualize the results. A TBG was designed and provided for readers to display citation trends on articles and keywords. RESULTS We found that the majority of publications were published in 2017 (2275), Shanghai city (935), Sun Yat-Sen University (China) (689), the international journal Ophthalmology (1399), the Department of Ophthalmology (3035), and the author Peizeng Yang (Chongqing) (65); the highest CAJL scores were also from Guangdong (2767.22), Sun Yat-Sen University (China) (2147.35), and the Ophthalmology Department (7130.96); the author Peizeng Yang (Chongqing) (170.16) had the highest CAJL; and the enhanced TBG features maximum counts and recent growth trends that are not included in traditional TBGs. CONCLUSION Using the Y-index and the CJAL score compared with research achievements of ophthalmology authors in CHT, a 4-quadrant radar plot was provided. The enhanced TBGs and the CJAL scores are recommended for future bibliographical studies.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES We evaluated 23 years of data for cornea donors at the Istanbul Faculty of Medicine Lions Eye Bank. MATERIALS AND METHODS Annual statistics of corneal donors between 1996 and 2019 were reviewed retrospectively. Records for 2008 and previous years were compared with records for 2009 and years thereafter,to assess donor demographics and reasons for discard of corneas. RESULTS A total of 3849 corneas were obtained from 2018 donors during a 23-year period. Of these, 26 donors (11.2%) were registered, whereas 1792 (88.8%) did not register any decision for donation. There were 210 (5.46%) corneas discarded for positive serology and 291 (7.56%) for unsuitable tissue morphology, and 3348 (86.98%) corneas were determined to be suitable for transplant. For the cause of death in 2009 and subsequent years, the incidence of trauma was lower (P = .001) compared with the years previous to 2009, whereas incidence of cardiac pathology (P = .014) was higher. The number of donors older than 50 years was higher for 2009 and years thereafter, compared with data from earlier years (P = .024). The rate of discarded corneas for unsuitable tissue morphology (P = .004) and total discarded corneas (P = .027) decreased in 2009 and years thereafter. The rate of discarded corneas for HIV was higher after for 2009 and years thereafter (P = .047), whereas the rate of discarded corneas for syphilis was significantly higher for 2015 and years thereafter (P = .001). CONCLUSIONS This study evaluated the most extensive eye bank data in Turkey and found that advances in lamellar surgery techniques and improvements in specular microscopic facilities have expanded the pool for cornealtransplants to include tissues from older donors. Moreover, the incidence rates for HIVpositive and syphilis-positive serology tests in discarded corneas have increased over time.

Abstract
BACKGROUND: Ophthalmology authors in mainland China, Hong Kong, or Taiwan were interested in knowing their individual research achievements (IRAs). This study was to evaluate the most cited authors, institutes, and regions in the mainland, Hong Kong, and Taiwan in the field of ophthalmology in the recent 10 years using the hx-index and to display the result with visual representations. METHODS: Using the PubMed search engine to download data, we conducted an observational study of citation analyses in affiliated research institutes and regions (provinces/areas) of all ophthalmology authors since 2010. A total of 19,364 published articles from 22,393 authors in the mainland, Hong Kong, and Taiwan were analyzed. The x-index and the Kano model were complemental to the hx-index in identifying IRAs. A pyramid plot was used to illustrate the importance of the author-weighted scheme (AWS) used in evaluating IRAs in academics. The hx-index combining both advantages of the h and x-index was proposed to assess individual IRAs. Furthermore, we drew: 1. a choropleth map on Google Maps to visualize the differences of IRA among regions and 2. a visual display to present individual hx-indexes. RESULTS: There is a significant rise over time in the number of publications. The top-ranking regions in hx-index were Shanghai (26.82), Guangdong (25.82), and Beijing (25.81). We demonstrated that Dr Wu from Taiwan published 144 articles in PMC and used the example to explain the importance of AWS when IRAs were assessed. CONCLUSIONS: With an overall increase in publications in the field of ophthalmology, contributions assessed by hx-indexes and the AWS should be encouraged and promoted more in the future.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate trends in publications on unicompartmental knee arthroplasty
(UKA) from the past to the present. Methods: As a web-based analysis, all UKA research articles, editorial letters, case
reports, reviews and meeting abstracts published on the Thomson Reuters’ Web
of Knowledge were evaluated. The period from the first publication in 1980
to January 2019 was divided into four decades and publications were
evaluated. Research articles were grouped into headings according to the
subjects. Results: A total of 1,658 publications were evaluated in this study. The most frequent
term used in the publications title was “outcome,” with 260 items, followed
by “biomechanics and kinematics,” with 99 items. Most reports have been
published in the last decade, and the most common type of publication was
postoperative follow-up and results. Conclusion: In parallel with technological advancements, publications related to
UKA-especially patient-specific instrumentation, navigation, and robotic
surgery-will increase in number and become more specific. Level of

Abstract
Background Epidermal parasitic skin diseases (EPSD) occur in most countries and cause a considerable health and economic burden, particularly in the tropics and subtropics. The aim of this study was to assess and analyse peer-reviewed literature on EPSD in humans. The results of this study serve as an indicator of the extent the scientific community, health authorities, and international health agencies interact with EPSD as a health problem that is commonly associated with poverty and poor hygiene. Methods A bibliometric analysis methodology was used. The Scopus database was used to retrieve documents about EPSD for the study period (1967–2017). The study focused on scabies, tungiasis, pediculosis, hookworm-related cutaneous larva migrans (HrCLM), myiasis, and cutaneous strongyloidiasis. Documents that specifically and explicitly discuss EPSD in animals, aquatic organisms, and birds were excluded. Results In total, 4186 documents were retrieved. A fluctuated growth of publications on EPSD in the past five decades was found. The retrieved documents received 43 301 citations, an average of 10.3 citations per article and an h-index of 74. The keywords “scabies” and was the most commonly encountered keyword followed by the keywords “head lice” and “pediculosis”. The most active journal involved in publishing articles on EPSD was the International Journal of Dermatology (164; 3.9%). Researchers from 93 different countries published the retrieved articles. The USA led with 735 (17.6%) documents, followed by the UK (274; 6.5%), and Germany (259; 6.2%). In terms of institutions, the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin in Germany was the most active in this field with 78 (1.9%) publications, followed by the Universidade Federal do Ceará in Brazil with 52 (1.2%) publications. Conclusions Research on scabies and pediculosis dominated the field of EPSD research to the expense of tungiasis, HrCLM, myiasis, and cutaneous strongyloidiasis. There was an underrepresentation of literature from the tropics and subtropics despite EPSD being common in these areas. This could possibly be explained by the presence of limited number of non-English journals in the Scopus database. International research collaborations and research networking should be strengthened to help advance and prioritize research on EPSD. Abstract
PURPOSE To perform a bibliometric analysis in the field of dry eye disease (DED) research to characterize the current international status of DED research and to identify the most effective actors (journals, countries, authors) involved in this field. METHODS Scientometric methods were used to evaluate global scientific production and development trends in DED research, using the Web of Science Core Collection. RESULTS The growth of the literature related to DED averaged 12.18% over the last 10 years. A total of 5522 original and review articles, published in 821 different journals, were identified. The USA was the most productive country with 34.53% of the overall articles studied and 46.10% of the overall citations. The Ocular Surface published a very high percentage of articles related to DED relative to the total number of articles published (31.87%). The most productive institutions and the most frequently cited articles were from the USA and Japan. A network visualization map for country collaboration revealed that most European countries developed most of their collaborations with countries belonging to their own continent, which was not the case for the USA or Japan. A total of 41,956 KeyWords Plus were found with an average of 7.6 (SD = 3.15) KeyWords Plus per article. CONCLUSIONS This study provides a broad view of the current status and trends in DED research and may help clinicians, researchers and policy makers better understand this research field and predict its dynamic directions.

Abstract
PURPOSE Citation analysis represents one of the best currently available methods for quantifying the impact of articles. Bibliometric studies list the ''best sellers'' in a single field of interest. The purpose of the present study was to identify and analyze the most frequently cited papers in dry eye research that may be of high interest for researchers and clinicians. METHODS We reviewed the database of the Institute for Scientific Information to identify articles published from 1900 to September 2016. All dry eye articles published in 59 ophthalmology journals were identified. The top 100 articles were selected for further analysis of authorship, source journal, number of citations, citation rate, geographic origin, article type, and level of evidence. RESULTS The 100 most-cited articles were published between 1983 and 2011, with most of them in the 2000s. The number of citations per article ranged from 96 to 610, and was greatest for articles published in the 2000s. Each of these articles was published in one of 15 journals. Most articles represented Level-III evidence, followed by Levels II and I. CONCLUSIONS The present study focusing on dry eye research revealed that 55% of the most-cited articles came from the U.S. and 18% from Japan. Diagnostics and therapy were the areas of focus of most of the clinical articles; 13% of the most cited papers were review articles. This analysis provides researchers and clinicians with a detailed overview on the most cited dry eye papers over the past decades.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Human platelet lysates (HPLs) are emerging as the new gold standard supplement of growth media for ex vivo expansion of cells for transplant. However, variations do exist in the way how HPLs are prepared. In particular, uncertainties still exist regarding the type of HPL most suitable for corneal endothelium cells (CEC) expansion, especially as these cells have limited proliferative capacity. MATERIAL AND METHODS Three distinct HPL preparations were produced, with or without calcium chloride/glass beads activation, and with or without heat treatment at 56°C for 30min. These HPLs were used to supplement basal D-MEM growth medium, each at a protein concentration equivalent to that of 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS; control). Impact on CEC (BCE C/D-1b cells) in vitro morphology, viability and capacity to express Zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1) tight junction marker was assessed by Western blotting. RESULTS BCE C/D-1b cells grown in all HPL supplements exhibited four of essential characteristic properties: adhesion capacity, microscopic morphology and viability similar to that observed when using 10% FBS. In addition, Western blots analysis revealed an expression of the ZO-1 marker by BCE C/D-1b cells in all conditions of culture. CONCLUSION CECs can expand ex vivo in a basal medium supplemented with the three HPLs without noticeable difference compared to FBS supplement. These data support further studies to evaluate the potential to use HPLs as a clinical-grade xeno-free supplement of CEC for corneal transplant.
