Abstract
BACKGROUND This review aimed to explore the effect of mirror therapy (MT) on upper limb function in children and adolescents with hemiplegic cerebral palsy (HCP). METHODS MEDLINE, CENTRAL, Scopus, PEDro, and Web of Science were systematically searched. PEDro scale was used for the quality assessment of included trials. Risk of Bias assessment was done using Cochrane Risk-of-bias tool version 2. Meta-analysis was performed on four of the seven studies included. RESULTS & CONCLUSION The majority of the trials included in this review found MT efficacious in improving motor function in HCP. Quantitative analysis of the included trials using QUEST scores for evaluation of quality of upper extremity function revealed positive but non-significant difference between the groups (MD = -0.12; 95% CI = -2.57,2.33; Z = 0.09, p = .92). Pooled analysis of the included trials using BBT, however, favored control (MD = 4.98; 95% CI = 2.32,7.63; Z = 3.67, p = .0002).

Abstract
PURPOSE Unilateral cerebral palsy (UCP) represents about 30-40% of overall cerebral palsy diagnoses. Upper limb impairment has a significant negative impact on activities of daily living (ADL), and recent studies have shown that the use of virtual reality (VR) can increase motivation and promote an improvement in ADL. This preliminary study was aimed at exploring the acceptability and usability of a VR rehabilitation treatment, using the VITAMIN Platform, for children with UCP. A secondary goal of the study was to compare the results of usual standardized clinical scales and questionnaires with kinematic results as well as with the quantitative measures acquired by the VITAMIN platform in each exercise of the rehabilitation sessions. METHODS Six children with UCP (aged 7-15) were recruited for a preliminary investigation in using a non-immersive VR system. The treatment was composed of 10 weekly sessions of 45 minutes. Each child played five types of exergames, using the impaired upper limb to hit virtual objects projected on a wide screen. Standardized clinical scales, kinematic analysis, and questionnaires were used to extensively assess upper limb function before and at the end of treatment. Five typically-developing children provided a reference for the instrumented kinematic assessment. RESULTS At the end of the treatment, Melbourne Assessment 2 (MA2) scores increased for all the participants (mean increase in range of movement (ROM) + 19.1%, accuracy + 4.6%, dexterity + 13.1%, fluency + 10.3%). Shoulder flexion-extension ROM also improved (mean increase + 10.5°), and according to the kinematic analysis, shoulder movements became more similar to reference profiles. These results were confirmed by a general improvement in performing ADL, assessed by the ABILHAND-Kids questionnaire. Finally, a general agreement among the different measures and indexes emerged from the acquired data. CONCLUSION The results show that VR treatment with the VITAMIN platform could be engaging and functional for rehabilitation of children with UCP. The good agreement among the qualitative and quantitative measures and indexes confirms the potential of such novel treatment. However, due to the limited sample size and small number of sessions, further and larger investigations are required to evaluate the effectiveness and to generalize the results.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Manual functions affect more than a half of children with Cerebral palsy (CP). Asymmetric involvement of hands may also affect unilateral and bilateral activities of daily life. The Bimanual Fine Motor Function version 2.0 (BFMF-2.0) is a unique functional classification that categorizes the capacity of each hand (what the child can do) during bimanual functions. PURPOSE The aim of this study was to investigate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the BFMF-2.0 in children with CP. STUDY DESIGN Clinical measurement and cross-sectional study. METHODS The study included 91 children with CP (56 girls, mean age; 7.41 ± 4.23 years [4-18 years]) and their parents. The Manual Ability Classification System (MACS), the Quality of Upper Extremity Skills Test (QUEST), and the Box and Block Test (BBT) were used for construct and concurrent validity. Experienced/inexperienced therapists and parents classified fine motor capacities of the children via live or video-based observation to assess inter-rater reliability. Three weeks later, the children were reclassified for intra-rater reliability. RESULTS The Turkish version of the BFMF-2.0 classification was strongly correlated with the MACS (rho = -0.88, p < 0.001), the QUEST (rho = 0.80, p < 0.001), and the BBT (rho = -0.77, p < 0.001). The inter-rater reliability scores were weak to excellent between the parents and the therapists (via live observation, κw = 0.57) and also between experienced/inexperienced therapists (via live or video-based observation, κw = 0.66-0.79). Intra-rater reliability scores were good to excellent (Intraclass Correlation Coefficient [ICC] = 0.87-0.95). CONCLUSIONS The Turkish version of the BFMF-2.0 classification is valid and reliable and could be applied by experienced and inexperienced therapists via live or video-based observation and by parents via live observation.

Abstract
Background (rationale) Steindler flexorplasty (SF) is aimed at restoring independent elbow flexion in the late stages of dysfunction of the primary elbow flexors. Selection criteria for successful SF have been defined. Objectives The purpose of this study was to redefine the inclusion criteria for successful SF based on functional outcomes. Methods Eight patients received SF after an average of 50.8 months after injury or dysfunction. Three patients (37.5%) met all five Al-Qattan inclusion criteria (AQIC), and another five patients (62.5%) met four or less AQIC. Patients were followed up for at least 9 months, and the maximum range of active elbow flexion (REF) was measured. Functional results of SF were assessed using the Al-Qattan scale (in accordance with Al-Qattan's scale). Results The mean maximum REF was 100 degrees (70 to 140 degrees). Five patients reached REF greater than 100 degrees. One patient had a poor outcome, two patients (25%) had a fair outcome, three patients (37.5%) had a good outcome, and two patients (25%) had an excellent outcome of SF on the Al-Qattan scale. The impact of each AQIC on functional outcome has been critically reviewed from a biomechanical point of view. Conclusions The sufficient number of inclusion criteria required for successful SF can be reduced from five (according to AQIC) to two; Normal or near-normal function (M4 or greater on the MRC scale) of the muscles of the flexor-pronator mass should be considered an obligatory inclusion criterion, while primary wrist extensors may be considered an optional inclusion criterion.

Abstract
Adults with tetraparesis cerebral palsy (i.e., wheelchair users) tend to experience more accelerated ageing, resulting in physical deterioration that increases the impact of the disability, leading to a loss of mobility that interferes with people's daily activities and participation in the community. The aim of this work is to study the relationship between trunk control and the function of the less-affected arm in this population. For this purpose, 41 para-athletes were invited to participate in this study, performing five tests to assess upper limb coordination, two tests to assess manual dexterity [i.e., Box and Block Test (BBT) and Box and Ball Test (BBLT)] and three tests to assess intra-limb coordination in different planes. Trunk control was assessed in both static and dynamic sitting conditions. The results show moderate correlations between static postural control and manual dexterity tests in the BBT (r = -0.553; p = 0.002) and BBLT (r = -0.537; p = 0.004). Large correlations were also found between static postural control and intra-limb tasks in horizontal (r = 0.769; p = 0.001) and vertical movements (r = 0.739; p = 0.009). Better static trunk control is related to a better upper limb function in the sagittal plane. Considerations and implications are explained in the manuscript.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cervical spinal cord injury (CSCI) causes severe motor deficit in upper extremities. The mixed segmental CSCI pattern is reflected in the combination of time-sensitive (TS) and non-TS myotomes in the upper extremities. Nerve transfers (NTs) restore upper extremity function yet remain TS procedures. A combination of neurological, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and electromyography (EMG) studies allows the identification of TS and non-TS myotomes in the upper extremities. OBSERVATIONS Nineteen months after NTs, flexor pollicis longus (FPL) and deep flexor of the index finger (FDP2) recovered to M4 (right UE), FPL recovered to M3 and FDP2 to M2 (left EU). The long head of the triceps brachii muscle recovered to M4 bilaterally. The Capabilities of Upper Extremity Questionnaire (CUE-Q) score for unilateral arm functionality increased by 44% (right) and 112.5% (left) and for bilateral arm functionality by 400%; the CUE-Q score for unilateral hand and finger function increased by 283% (right) and 166% (left). LESSONS The combination of neurological, MRI, and EMG studies before surgery and data obtained during surgery provides reliable information on the CSCI pattern, specifically the availability of motor donor nerves. Simultaneous bilateral restoration is required in the event of CSCI and significantly improves the unilateral and bilateral function of the UEs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Childhood hand function is considered to be one of the strongest predictors of the ability to participate in daily activities as children with cerebral palsy (CP) reach adulthood. The manual ability classification system (MACS) is currently the most widely used for grading hand function in children with CP. However, the MACS method is subjective and may be affected by the raters' experience. Hand knob is an important control center for hand movement. Therefor this study aimed to develop and validate an objective model for hand function estimation in children with CP and visualize it as a nomogram. METHODS A total of 70 Children (2-12 years old) with CP underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanning, MACS assessment. According to MACS, children with CP were divided into mild impairment group (grade I-III) and severe impairment group (grade IV-V). Hand function prediction models based on (I) hand knob score, (II) clinical features, and (III) the combination of clinical features and hand knob score were developed and validated separately. The models were subjected to stepwise regression according to the maximum likelihood method, and the Akaike information criterion was used to select the best model. Model discrimination was assessed using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) and calibration curves. The nomogram was finally built according to the best model. RESULTS The area under the curve (AUC) of the hand knob score model in the training set was 0.752, the clinical features model was 0.819, and the hand knob score and clinical features combined model was 0.880. The AUC of the hand knob score model in the validation set was 0.765, the clinical features model was 0.782, and the combined model was 0.894. The best model was the hand knob score-clinical features combined model, and the nomogram finally incorporated two assessment items: the hand knob score and white matter injury. The estimated probability of hand function injury degree of the combined model displayed good agreement with the actual occurrence probability. CONCLUSIONS The hand knob score-clinical features combined model can be used to preliminarily assess the degree of hand impairment in children with CP, with good calibration.
