Abstract
LAY ABSTRACT Autistic people are more likely to have mental and physical health problems than non-autistic people. Annual health checks could reduce these problems by finding and treating them early. Annual health checks are yearly medical appointments where a primary healthcare provider (such as a doctor or nurse) can check things like a patient's weight and heart rate and ask if they have any worries about their health. In this study, we wanted to understand what might encourage primary healthcare providers to use annual health checks with their autistic patients. First, we spoke to 10 autistic people and 11 primary healthcare providers. Using the findings from these conversations, we created an online survey for primary healthcare providers in England. We used the findings from the interviews and survey to help us understand what would encourage primary healthcare providers to offer annual health checks for autistic people. Our participants said that a lack of time and staff would make it hard to provide health checks. To help, they said other members of staff (such as nurses and healthcare assistants) could do the health checks, rather than doctors. They also said parts of the process could be made automatic to save time (e.g. sending automatic reminders). Knowledge about autism was important too (e.g. knowing about the common conditions autistic people have, and how to best support autistic patients). Participants said training on these topics, produced and delivered with autistic people, could encourage them to use annual health checks with their autistic patients.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Research-practice partnerships (RPPs) are long-term collaborations between research and practice that aim to conduct research that can be used to make practice-based improvements. They intentionally bring together diverse experience in decision making and seek to shift power dynamics so that all partners have a say. The Creating Care Partnerships project aims to explore whether the RPP approach developed within the US educational context can be successfully applied to the English care home context. The project involves a programme of codesign, implementation and evaluation within three case study sites. This protocol set outs the aims, research design and governance of the evaluation. METHODS AND ANALYSIS The evaluation takes a theory-based approach to explore how, why and in what circumstances RPPs in the care home context contribute to enhancing research and research use in local care homes and informing wider improvement efforts. A mixed-methods design will be used for each case study, including semistructured interviews, observations of RPP events and meetings, an online survey, activity diary and review of local data and documents. Data collection will proceed in waves, with the theory of change (ToC) being continually refined and used to guide further data collection and analysis. Insights will be drawn using Contribution Analysis, Realist Evaluation and systems perspectives to assess the contribution made by the case study sites to achieving outcomes and the influence of contextual factors. Economic consequences will be identified through the ToC, using a narrative economic analysis to assess costs, consequences and value for money. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION The study has undergone ethics review by HRA Research Ethics Committee. It does not pose major ethical issues. A final report will be published and articles will be submitted to international journals.

Evaluation of Health Care Disparities for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in Ohio. Community Ment Health J 2021; 57:482-489. Abstract
The purpose of the study was to determine the acute and long term services and supports (LTSS) utilization, cost of health care and disparities in access of care for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). Individuals with IDD on a waiver (receiving Medicaid-funded LTSS in community settings) compared to non-IDD individuals on a waiver control group were compared using Ohio Medicaid claims data from calendar year 2013. Results found the IDD Waiver population had lower utilization rates for emergency department visits, hospital admissions, and hospital readmissions within 30 days compared to the Non-IDD Waiver population and lower PMPM expenditures across all medical service categories except pharmacy. However, the IDD Waiver population possessed greater PMPM costs for LTSS and therefore greater overall costs of care. Furthermore, 94% of IDD Waiver individuals had an episode of care for neurological conditions, with the second most frequent episode of care being for mental health services. The two most frequent episodes of care for individuals in the Non-IDD Waiver group were for conditions related to treatment (medical/surgical) and musculoskeletal conditions. The goal of this research was to investigate the health care needs of individuals with IDD that may vary from other long term care populations. The differences in health care needs for individuals with IDD require health systems and care management that is tailored to the sub-population, with an emphasis on treatment for neurological and mental health conditions. The typical focus of care management efforts on reducing unnecessary utilization of hospital services may be less relevant to the IDD Waiver population. The results of this study will be used to make recommendations regarding the unique health care needs of individuals with IDD.

Abstract
The lives of persons living with mental illness are affected by psychological, biological, social, economic, and environmental factors over the life course. It is therefore unlikely that simple preventive strategies, clinical treatments, therapeutic interventions, or policy options will succeed as singular solutions for the challenges of mental illness. Persons living with mental illness receive services and supports in multiple settings across the health care continuum that are often fragmented, uncoordinated, and inadequately responsive. Appropriate assessment is an important tool that health systems must deploy to respond to the strengths, preferences, and needs of persons with mental illness. However, standard approaches are often focused on measurement of psychiatric symptoms without taking a broader perspective to address issues like growth, development, and aging; physical health and disability; social relationships; economic resources; housing; substance use; involvement with criminal justice; stigma; and recovery. Using conglomerations of instruments to cover more domains is impractical, inconsistent, and incomplete while posing considerable assessment burden. interRAI mental health instruments were developed by a network of over 100 researchers, clinicians, and policy experts from over 35 nations. This includes assessment systems for adults in inpatient psychiatry, community mental health, emergency departments, mobile crisis teams, and long-term care settings, as well as a screening system for police officers. A similar set of instruments is available for child/youth mental health. The instruments form an integrated mental health information system because they share a common assessment language, conceptual basis, clinical emphasis, data collection approach, data elements, and care planning protocols. The key applications of these instruments include care planning, outcome measurement, quality improvement, and resource allocation. The composition of these instruments and psychometric properties are reviewed, and examples related to homeless are used to illustrate the various applications of these assessment systems.
