Abstract
Background/purpose Establishing effective irrigation methods is warranted to ensure the predictability of minimally invasive root canal instrumentation. This study aimed to compare the smear layer removal efficacy of different irrigation techniques in root canals instrumented with TruNatomy nickel-titanium rotary instruments. Materials and methods Experiment 1: Extracted human mandibular incisors were instrumented using TruNatomy Shaping Files up to Small (#20/0.04), Prime (#26/0.04), or Medium (#36/0.03) (n = 17, each) and irrigated with EDTA, NaOCl, and again with EDTA using syringe irrigation (SI). Experiment 2: Extracted mandibular incisors were instrumented using TruNatomy Small and irrigated with EDTA and NaOCl as in Experiment 1, using (1) conventional laser-activated irrigation (LAI) with an erbium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet laser unit at 30 mJ/10 Hz (LAI 30/10) or 70 mJ/20 Hz (LAI 70/20), (2) photon-induced photoacoustic streaming (PIPS) (20 mJ/15 Hz), (3) ultrasonic-activated irrigation, or (4) SI (n = 13 each). Five additional canals served as negative controls (no irrigation). The smear layer on the canal wall was scored under scanning electron microscopy. Results In Experiment 1, the TruNatomy Small group exhibited significantly higher smear layer scores compared to the other groups in the apical and middle thirds. In Experiment 2, the LAI 70/20 and PIPS groups demonstrated significantly lower smear layer scores compared to the LAI 30/10 and SI groups in the apical third. Conclusion Conservative instrumentation using the TruNatomy Small reduced the cleaning efficacy of irrigation. However, PIPS performed satisfactory for smear layer removal without injury to the root canal wall.

Abstract
Background This study aimed to compare the effect of heat treatment on the cyclic fatigue resistance of three different nickel-titanium rotary file systems: TruNatomy, HyFlex CM, and NeoEndo flex in simulated curved canals at two different radii of curvatures. Materials and Methods A total of 60 NiTi rotary files of three types were used, and the samples were divided into three groups TruNatomy, HyFlex CM, and NeoEndo flex. All the instruments were subjected to cyclic fatigue testing using a stainless steel custom-made canal model with a 60° angle of curvature and two radii of curvature 5 mm and 3 mm; the number of cycles to fracture and length of the fractured segment was measured. The separated instruments were subjected to fractographic analysis under scanning electron microscope. Results The number of cycles to failure to fracture a file at a 3 mm radius of curvature is significantly less as compared to a 5 mm radius of curvature (HCM > TRN > NE). Conclusion Within the limitation of the present study, there was a positive correlation between the radius of curvature and fatigue life of NiTi files.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to examine the shaping ability of six rotary and reciprocating file systems, as well as hybrid techniques in simulated S-shaped root canals. METHODS A hundred and twenty S-shaped radiopaque thermosetting epoxy resin blocks were grouped according to the system used for biomechanical preparation. Six groups of 15 canals each were prepared using TruNatomy, Procodile, VDW Rotate, Hyflex CM, OneCurve, and WaveOne Gold, respectively. Two additional hybrid (Procodile/Hyflex CM and Procodile/TruNatomy) groups (n=15 each) were added after evaluating the results of individual systems. All canals were enlarged to 0.25 mm apically. Canal transportation, centering ability, diameter increase, and iatrogenic errors were assessed by superimposed pre-operative and post-operative images. AutoCAD was used for data analysis. All groups were statistically compared with analysis of variance and Tukey honest significant difference test (p<0.05). RESULTS Hyflex CM resulted in the most conservative diameter increase in all thirds (coronal, middle, and apical; p<0.001). Procodile showed the best (p<0.001) centering ability in the coronal and middle thirds, while TruNatomy resulted in the least canal transportation and most centering preparation in the apical third (p<0.001). Hybridisation of Procodile and Hyflex CM produced the least canal transportation and best centering ability in the middle third (p<0.001). No instrument breakage occurred, and no ledge, elbow, or apical zip formation was observed during canal preparation. CONCLUSION Hybridisation of Procodile and Hyflex CM showed remarkable results in preserving the canal diameter in all thirds and resulted in the least canal transportation and best centering ability in the middle third of the canal. However, when treatment cost and duration limit the clinical applicability of the hybrid technique, clinicians can use a single file system (Hyflex CM or TruNatomy) since it shows satisfactory results in all parameters when compared with a hybrid system.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate six files on the pericervical dentin (PCD) and the smallest dentin thickness zones (SDTZ) in mesial root canals of mandibular molars. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixty mandibular molars with two mesial canals and Vertucci configuration were aleatory allocated in 6 experimental groups of 10 molars and 20 root canals. Specimens were scanned before instrumentation using the SkyScan 1275 (Bruker microCT, Kontich, Belgium). Group 1 was treated with WaveOne Gold (WG), group 2 with Reciproc Blue (RB), group 3 with TRUShape (TS), group 4 with XP-endo Shaper (XP), group 5 with iRace (IR), and group 6 with TruNatomy (TN). After instrumentation, the molars were scanned again and the images recorded were reconstructed with the NRecon v.1.7 (Bruker micro-CT) and analyzed with CTAn v.1.20.8 software (Bruker micro-CT) quantifying the changes produced in the surface, volume, structure thickness, SMI, and centroids at the Pericervical Dentin area of the root canals (PCD) located from the root canal orifices at the floor of the pulp chamber to 4 mm in the apical direction, and the changes in the Smallest Dentin Thickness Zones (SDTZ) located (from the furcation to 4 mm and 7 mm in the apical direction. The data obtained were compared using Wilcoxon and ANOVA with a 5% significance level. RESULTS XP and TN were similar in all the parameters (P >.05) at the PCD, but TN showed significant differences from WG, RB, TS, and IR (P <.05), while XP showed significant differences from WG (P <.05) in volume, surface, and structure thickness. Regarding the changes in the SDTZ, the amount of dentin removed was similar between the groups in both canals at the middle 1/3, at the cervical 1/3 for MB canals, and in ML canals for RB, TS, XP, IR, and TN (P>.05). The action of WG was significantly different from that of XP and TN in the cervical 1/3 of the ML canal (P <.05). CONCLUSIONS XP and TN rotatory files with small taper and volume maintained better with minor changes at the PCD and SDTZ, while WG reciprocation file produced the largest change. All the files were maintained centered at the PCD, and their performances were safe with a minimal thickness higher 0.5 mm at the SDTZ, and without risk of perforation. TRIAL REGISTRATION No clinical trials were indicated in this study. CLINICAL RELEVANCE The choice of endodontic files is a relevant factor in the conservative performance of root canal treatments.

Abstract
Background Recent innovations in the physical and mechanical features of endodontic file systems have diminished the prospect of stress generation and fracture risk in novel endodontic files. Aim The purpose of this research was to comparatively evaluate the stress distribution of recently introduced endodontic rotary files with distinct features and metallurgy at three different levels of the root canal wall by finite element analysis. Materials and Methods Forty endodontic files were used in this experiment after being inspected through a scanning electron microscope for any surface deformities. Based on their metallurgy and design, the scanned files were divided into four groups, each with 10 samples: Group A-2Shape files, Group B-F360, Group C-One Curve, and Group D-TruNatomy. To assess the mechanical behavior of these files, the stress produced by computer-aided models of these instruments on the dentinal wall of a simulated root canal was numerically analyzed using ANSYS® 15 Workbench finite element software. Results A one-way ANOVA was used to assess all the raw data with post hoc Tukey analysis, the Shapiro-Wilk test, and Levene's test. F360 files exerted the maximum stress on the dentinal wall, while TruNatomy files exerted the least stress at all the distinct levels of dentinal walls. Conclusions There was no statistically significant variation in the stress generated between the four groups. Therefore, it can be concluded that improvements in rotary file design and metallurgy have the potential to reduce the stress during canal shaping and the risk of instrument breakage during clinical use.

Abstract
The impact of 5.25 percent NaOCL on the resistance offered by TruNatomy, Hero Gold and ProtaperGold against cyclic fracture as against the treatment of NiTi rotary files with distilled water is of interest to dentists. Inside the stainless steel blocks, man-made canals were created for the purpose of testing the cyclic fatigue. 60 endodontic files were taken as study specimens. It was observed that values of number of cycles to fracture in NaOCl among three file systems were in the order of TruNatomy (1053.50 ± 134.81)>Hero Gold (652.66 ± 58.66) > ProtaperGold (494.50 ± 47.69). The TruNatomy file system reflected greatest cyclic fatigue resistance. It was also found that cyclic fatigue resistance in NiTi rotary files studied here is not hampered by 5.25% NaOCl.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION This study aimed to compare the curvature severity of mesio-buccal (MB) canals between sagittal and coronal planes using cone-beam computed tomography. METHODS In a Brazilian subpopulation, untreated MB1 (n = 141) and MB2 (n = 72) with single curvatures in sagittal and coronal planes were measured to determine their angle and radius (r), plus the prevalence of S-shaped canals was recorded. Curvature severity was defined according to the American Association of Endodontists Case Difficulty Assessment form (AAE) and EndoApp (EA), as well as their modified versions that consider angle and radii (AAE-r, EA-r). Data were converted into mean angle and r, percentage of canals >30°, AAE, EA, AAE-r and EA-r categories. The influence of r on case severity was assessed. Statistical analysis was performed using t-tests and chi-squared tests. The level of significance was set as P ≤ .05. RESULTS For single curvatures, significantly higher mean degrees (SD) angles were found in the sagittal views in both canals (MB1 sagittal: 35 [11]; MB1 coronal: 13 [13]; MB2 sagittal: 29 [14]; MB2 coronal: 22 [15] [P < .05]). A greater percentage of angles >30° (MB1: 56.7% vs 6.4%; MB2: 44.4% vs 22.2%) in sagittal planes compared to coronal planes was also found. Conversely, a higher prevalence of S-shaped canals (MB1: 33.3% vs 7.1% MB2: 31.9% vs 15.3%) was observed in coronal planes. Significant differences between AAE and AAE-r were present with greater case severity when radii were considered (P < .05). CONCLUSIONS Sagittal planes were associated with more severe single curvatures, while coronal planes had a greater prevalence of S-shaped canals.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Innovative file systems have been recently introduced, claiming improved effectiveness and superior ability to preserve the tooth structure, still allowing an efficient preparation and disinfection up to the apical region. Regardless, few data are available on the comparative effectiveness of the most recently developed systems. Thus, this ex vivo study aimed to comparatively evaluate, for the first time, the functionality of WaveOne Gold (WOG), TruNatomy (TN), and ProTaper Ultimate (PU) file systems regarding canal shaping, dentin preservation, and smear layer removal ability. METHODS Human maxillary incisors were randomly divided for instrumentation with one of the assayed systems. Canal shaping ability and pericervical dentin preservation were characterized through microtomographic evaluation and morphometric assessment (n = 15). Smear layer removal ability was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) (n = 6). RESULTS TN and PU presented the lowest canal volume variation upon instrumentation, found to be significantly lower than that attained with WOG (P < .05). Pericervical dentin was reduced in all groups upon instrumentation, with TN evidencing the highest preservation, quantitatively similar to PU, and significantly higher than that attained with WOG (P < .05). SEM imaging revealed the presence of scattered remnants of the smear layer and partially opened dentinal tubules at the apical portion, with no significant differences between systems. CONCLUSIONS TN and PU allowed for the highest tissue preservation, reporting the lowest volume variation and the highest preservation of the pericervical dentin. None of the assessed systems provided a complete removal of the smear layer in the apical region.

METHODS A total of 54 new instruments were studied. The instrument groups consisted of five different NiTi alloys and a stainless-steel alloy. To standardize instrument fracture, a torsional type of failure was created on each instrument. The fractured specimens of each instrument group were randomly divided into three static immersion subgroups of 1 h, 7-day, and 30-day (n = 3). Simulated body fluid (SBF) was prepared to mimic human blood plasma by Kokubo&Takadama protocol for ex situ static immersions at 37ºC. The surfaces were examined via scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. To determine the quantitative ion release, the retrieved SBFs were analyzed using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. Two-way ANOVA and Tukey post hoc tests sought the statistical significance of the nickel ion values(p < 0.05). RESULTS In 1 h of immersion, the newly formed structures, exhibiting mostly oxygen signals, were widespread and evident on NiTi surfaces. In contrast, fewer structures were detected on the SS surface in that subgroup. In 7 days of immersion, a tendency for a decrease in the density of the new structures was revealed in NiTi groups. The oxygen signals on NiTi group surfaces significantly increased, contrary to their decrease in SS. Signals of sodium, chlorine, and calcium were detected, indicating salt precipitates in groups. In 30 days of immersion, salt precipitates continued to form. The Ni-ion release values in all instrument groups presented significant differences in comparison to the SBF control in all immersion periods(p < 0.001). No significant differences were observed in immersion time periods or instrument groups(p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Within the limitations of the presented study, it was concluded that the fractured SS and NiTi root canal instruments release Ni ions in contact with body fluid. However, the Ni ion release values determined during the observation periods are lower than the critical toxic or allergic thresholds defined for the human body. This was due to the ionic dissolution cycle reaching a stable state from 1-hour to 30-day exposure to the body fluid of fractured instruments.

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the amount of apically extruded debris caused by different NiTi files. One hundred mandibular premolars were included in this study. The specimens were divided into five groups (n = 20): (i) TruNatomy, (ii) WaveOne Gold, (iii) 2Shape, (iv) ProTaper Next and (v) Reciproc Blue. The extruded debris was collected into preweighed Eppendorf tubes. These tubes were weighed again, and the net weight of debris was calculated. Data were statistically analysed, and the significance level was set at 5%. The least amount of extruded debris was observed in the TruNatomy group (p < 0.05). Statistically significant differences were not found among (iii), (iv) and (v) groups (p > 0.05). However, these groups resulted in significantly higher amounts of debris when compared to (i) and (ii) groups (p < 0.05). The results lead us to conclude that all instrumentation systems caused apical extrusion of debris at varying weights.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of the current study is to assess the surface roughness of several recent nickel-titanium (Ni-Ti) rotary endodontic instruments, namely: Protaper next (PTN); Hyflex CM (CM); Hyflex EDM (EDM); WaveOne gold (WOG); and trunatomy (TN), before and after application of 5.25% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) irrigant solution. METHODS In this in vitro study, five recently introduced rotary endodontic instruments of different metallurgical properties and designs were subjected to Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) analysis, and then each file was rotated in 5.25% NaOCl for 15 min., with speed and torque according to manufacturer's instructions. The instruments were then subjected to AFM analysis again. The surface roughness average (Sa) parameter was calculated. Data were analyzed by Paired T test, One-way ANOVA and Tukey tests. RESULTS There was a statistically significant decrease in the surface roughness of all rotary endodontic instruments after immersion in irrigants (P ≤ 0.05). CONCLUSION The new TN and PTN instruments showed the least surface roughness. All tested Ni-Ti rotary endodontic instruments after irrigants exposure showed a varying increase in surface roughness.

Abstract
Nickel-titanium (NiTi) alloy has been extensively researched in endodontics, particularly in cleaning and shaping the root canal system. Research advances have primarily focused on the design, shape, and geometry of the NiTi files as well as metallurgy and mechanical properties. So far, extensive investigations have been made surrounding surface and thermomechanical treatments, however, limited work has been done in the realm of surface functionalization to augment its performance in endodontics. This review summarizes the unique characteristics, current use, and latest developments in thermomechanically treated NiTi endodontic files. It discusses recent improvements in nano-engineering and the possibility of customizing the NiTi file surface for added functionalization. Whilst clinical translation of this technology has yet to be fully realized, future research direction will lie in the use of nanotechnology. Nitinol (Nickel Titanium alloy) is widely used to clean/shape root canal system in endodontics. To enhance its performance, various thermo-mechanical and nano-engineering modifications have been performed. This comprehensive review summarizes the latest advances and future trends relating to functionalized NiTi endodontic files.

Abstract
Objectives This study aimed to compare the torsional and cyclic fatigue resistance of ProGlider (PG), WaveOne Gold Glider (WGG), and TruNatomy Glider (TNG). Materials and Methods A total of 15 instruments of each glide path system (n = 15) were used for each test. A custom-made device simulating an angle of 90° and a radius of 5 millimeters was used to assess cyclic fatigue resistance, with calculation of number of cycles to failure. Torsional fatigue resistance was assessed by maximum torque and angle of rotation. Fractured instruments were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Data were analyzed with Shapiro-Wilk and Kruskal-Wallis tests, and the significance level was set at 5%. Results The WGG group showed greater cyclic fatigue resistance than the PG and TNG groups (p < 0.05). In the torsional fatigue test, the TNG group showed a higher angle of rotation, followed by the PG and WGG groups (p < 0.05). The TNG group was superior to the PG group in torsional resistance (p < 0.05). SEM analysis revealed ductile morphology, typical of the 2 fracture modes: cyclic fatigue and torsional fatigue. Conclusions Reciprocating WGG instruments showed greater cyclic fatigue resistance, while TNG instruments were better in torsional fatigue resistance. The significance of these findings lies in the identification of the instruments' clinical applicability to guide the choice of the most appropriate instrument and enable the clinician to provide a more predictable glide path preparation.

Abstract
Selection of an appropriate nickel−titanium (NiTi) rotary system is important for minimally invasive endodontic treatment, which aims to preserve as much root canal dentin as possible. This study aimed to evaluate selected mechanical properties and the root canal shaping ability of TruNatomy (TRN), a NiTi rotary system designed for minimally invasive endodontic shaping, in comparison with existing instruments: HyFlex EDM (HEDM), ProTaper Next (PTN), and WaveOne Gold (WOG). Load values measured with a cantilever bending test were ranked as TRN < HEDM < WOG < PTN (p < 0.05). A dynamic cyclic fatigue test revealed that the number of cycles to fracture was ranked as HEDM > WOG > TRN > PTN (p < 0.05). Torque and vertical force generated during instrumentation of J-shaped artificial resin canals were measured using an automated instrumentation device connected to a torque and vertical force measuring system; TRN exhibited smaller torque and vertical force values in most comparisons with the other instruments. The canal centering ratio for TRN was smaller than or comparable to that for the other instruments except for WOG at the apex level. Under the present experimental conditions, TRN showed higher flexibility and lower torque and vertical force values than the other instruments.

Abstract
This study aimed to compare three endodontic rotary systems. The new Genius Proflex (25/0.04), Vortex Blue (25/0.04), and TruNatomy (26/0.04v) instruments (n = 41 per group) were analyzed regarding design, metallurgy, and mechanical performance, while shaping ability (untouched canal walls, volume of removed dentin and hard tissue debris) was tested in 36 anatomically matched root canals of mandibular molars. The results were compared using one-way ANOVA, post hoc Tukey, and Kruskal−Wallis tests, with a significance level set at 5%. All instruments showed symmetrical cross-sections, with asymmetrical blades, no radial lands, no major defects, and almost equiatomic nickel−titanium ratios. Differences were noted in the number of blades, helical angles, cross-sectional design, and tip geometry. The Genius Proflex and the TruNatomy instruments had the highest and lowest R-phase start and finish temperatures, as well as the highest and lowest time and cycles to fracture (p < 0.05), respectively. The TruNatomy had the highest flexibility (p < 0.05), while no differences were observed between the Genius Proflex and the Vortex Blue (p > 0.05). No differences among tested systems were observed regarding the maximum torque, angle of rotation prior to fracture, and shaping ability (p > 0.05). The instruments showed similarities and differences in their design, metallurgy, and mechanical properties. However, their shaping ability was similar, without any clinically significant errors. Understanding these characteristics may help clinicians to make decisions regarding which instrument to choose for a particular clinical situation.

Abstract
This study evaluated surface wear and resistance to fracture of reciprocating and novel rotary instruments after use in curved canals. Twenty new instruments (n = 5/each group): Reciproc Blue, WaveOne Gold, XP-endo Shaper (XPS) and TruNatomy were used twice for the instrumentation of simulated curved canals in plastic blocks. The instrumentation was performed according to the manufacturer's instructions at body temperature. Surface roughness was evaluated, using a profilometer, before instrumentation and twice after the instrumentation. Instruments were, then, subjected to a cyclic fatigue test to evaluate the time to failure. Differences were assessed using ANOVA and post hoc tests (α = 0.05). The XPS instruments showed significantly higher values of roughness compared with TruNatomy at every stage, especially after the second use (p < 0.008). Reciprocating instruments showed superior cyclic fatigue resistance compared with novel rotary instruments (p < 0.05). TruNatomy showed minimal surface roughness, and XPS exhibited significantly higher surface roughness.

Abstract
BACKGROUND: Rotary nickel titanium instrument are an essential part of endodontic treatment, it is important to compare the root canal cleaning ability of these instruments.
AIM: This study aimed to compare the amount of smear and debris layer remained following the use of four rotary instruments with an irrigant solution: TruNatomy (TRN), Protaper Next (PTN), S-One Plus and Wave One Gold (WOG).
METHODS: A total of 80 extracted mandibular premolars were used and decoronated to the cemento-enamel junction. The roots were randomly divided into four groups of 20 specimens each. The roots were instrumented according to the manufacturer’s instructions of each file, the root canals were irrigated with sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), Ethylene-diaminete-traacetic acid (EDTA) and Normal saline with each file use, two grooves were prepared on the buccal and lingual surfaces by disc to facilitate vertical splitting with a chisel. The presence of the smear layer and the debris layer were evaluated under Scanning Electron Microscope.
RESULTS: Trunatomy remove the smear layer substantially better than PTN and S-one Plus. Wave one gold significantly removes smear layer better PTN. The amount of debris remained in TruNatomy group was significantly lower than other groups, all experimental files significantly removes the smear layer and debris layer better in the middle and coronal thirds compared to apical third.
CONCLUSION: TruNatomy showed better cleaning capacity than all other experimental groups and all experimental groups demonstrated better cleanliness at the coronal and middle third of the roots.

Abstract
A very extensive literature review presents the possibilities and needs of using, in endodontics, the alloys commonly known as nitinol. Nitinol, as the most modern group of engineering materials used to develop root canals, is equilibrium nickel and titanium alloys in terms of the elements’ atomic concentration, or very similar. The main audience of this paper is engineers, tool designers and manufacturers, PhD students, and students of materials and manufacturing engineering but this article can also certainly be used by dentists. The paper aims to present a full material science characterization of the structure and properties of nitinol alloys and to discuss all structural phenomena that determine the performance properties of these alloys, including those applied to manufacture the endodontic tools. The paper presents the selection of these alloys’ chemical composition and processing conditions and their importance in the endodontic treatment of teeth. The results of laboratory studies on the analysis of changes during the sterilization of endodontic instruments made of nitinol alloys are also included. The summary of all the literature analyses is an SWOT analysis of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, and is a forecast of the development strategy of this material in a specific application such as endodontics.

Abstract
Aim: The study aims to compare and evaluate the fracture resistance of endodontically treated bicuspids instrumented with Hand Files, TruNatomy (TRN), ProTaper Next (PTN), ProTaper Gold (PTG), and WaveOne (WO). Materials and Methods: In total, 45 extracted single-rooted human premolar teeth were selected and sectioned at or below the cementoenamel junction to obtain roots 15 mm long. The samples were divided into four experimental groups and one control group (n = 9): instrumentation with nickel–titanium (NiTi) Hand Files (control group), instrumentation with TRN files, instrumentation with PTN files, instrumentation with PTG files, and instrumentation with WO files. The samples were obturated by lateral compaction technique using gutta-percha points and AH Plus sealer. A vertical load was applied to the tooth using the universal testing machine (Tecsol-TSI-BDS-2Kn-Sr No. 170710) for the fracture resistance test. Statistical analysis was performed. Results: The study reported that teeth instrumented with NiTi hand files exhibited the highest fracture resistance when compared to all the rotary and reciprocating file systems. Among rotary and reciprocating instruments, root prepared with TRN files showed the most significant resistance to fracture compared with PTN, PTG, and WO files. Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, it can be concluded that minimally invasive instrumentation of the system preserves more pericervical dentin, which may increase the resistance to fracture. Results of this study and other studies support the use of minimally tapered instruments to improve the fracture resistance of endodontically treated teeth.

Abstract
The aim of this review is to provide a critical overview of the physical properties (surface hardness, cutting efficiency, bending properties, flexibility and cyclic fatigue resistance) of NiTi instruments. Frequently used experimental models regarding these aspects will be presented and discussed with regard to their strengths and weaknesses. For all these aspects, a plethora of experimental models have been described. Based on a critical appraisal and especially taking the appropriate translation of experimental findings to clinical endodontics into account, suggestions for future research based on clearly defined and valid experimental methodologies will be provided. Up to now, very few attempts have been made to assess which particular physical properties of NiTi instruments exert an impact on the clinical outcome of root canal treatment. Departure from merely focusing on physical properties and fracture characteristics towards more biological aspects in terms of treatment outcome is essential.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE TruNatomy and XP-endo Shaper are recently introduced file systems showing increased fatigue resistance rate. The present study aims to evaluate the surface topographic changes and nickel (Ni) and titanium (Ti) elemental loss of XP-endo Shaper (XPS) and TruNatomy (TN) files on exposure to conventionally used root canal irrigants; [5.25% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and 17% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA)] at a 10 minute time frame using atomic force microscopy (AFM) and energy dispersion X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) analytical techniques. METHODS Twelve samples for each of XPS (30/.04 taper) and TN (26/.04 taper; prime) instruments were dynamically exposed to 5.25% NaOCl, 17% EDTA separately for 10 minutes and in combination of 5.25% NaOCl (8 minutes)+17% EDTA (2 minutes) for a total of 10 minutes. Post exposure, the files were subjugated to AFM and EDX analysis. Independent t test and one-way ANOVA were used for statistical analysis, and the level of significance was set at 0.05. RESULTS XPS and TN showed a significant increase of surface roughness (Ra) and roughness mean square (RMS) on exposure to various irrigants (P<0.05) using AFM analysis. Increased overall roughness was observed with TN in comparison to XPS (P<0.05). Elements Ni and Ti loss was found in both XPS and TN files using EDX analysis. Both files exhibited Ni and Ti loss with the loss of Ni content higher for TN after exposure to 17% EDTA. Loss of Ti was seen for both files on exposure to a combination of 5.25% NaOCl+17% EDTA. CONCLUSION After exposure to root canal irrigants, the surface roughness was lesser in XPS compared to TN files. 17% EDTA caused significantly higher surface roughness in both file systems when compared to 5.25% NaOCl. TN exhibited overall higher elemental (Ni and Ti) loss on exposure to 17% EDTA and 5.25% NaOCl+17% EDTA in comparison to XPS files.

Abstract
Background In root canal preparations, it is important to maintain the original canal shape. However, it is difficult to accomplish this, especially due to the complex canal anatomy. This study aimed to compare the shaping ability of the ProTaper GOLD, WaveOne GOLD, and newly developed TruNatomy in simulated S-shaped canals. Methods The root canals of 60 S-shaped resin blocks were dyed using ink and photographed. The blocks were then randomly divided into three groups: group ProTaper GOLD (n = 20), WaveOne GOLD (n = 20), and TruNatomy (n = 20). The simulated canals were instrumented according to the NiTi file system and photographed again after being dyed with red ink. The pre- and post-preparation images were superimposed, and the amount of resin removed from both the mesial and distal sides of the canal measured up to 9 mm from the apical terminus, with a 1 mm increment. The preparation time was also calculated. A paired t-test was used to determine the degree of deviation at different levels within the groups. To compare the degree of transportation at different levels between the groups, one-way ANOVA and Kruskal–Wallis tests were performed according to the normality. Results TruNatomy showed a significant deviation between the mesial and distal sides of the canal only in the coronal area at 6, 7, 8, and 9 mm levels of the canal (p < 0.05). When comparing the amount of transportation in the 3 groups at 9 different levels, TruNatomy showed significantly less canal transportation than the other groups at the 3-and 5-mm levels of the canal (p < 0.05), while ProTaper GOLD showed the largest amount of transportation in the apical curved area at the 2 and 3 mm levels (p < 0.05). TruNatomy removed less resin than other groups in all sections (p < 0.05), while ProTaper GOLD removed slightly more resin than WaveOne GOLD; however, there was no significant difference (p = 0.043). Shaping time was the least for TruNatomy, followed by the WaveOne GOLD and ProTaper GOLD (p < 0.05). Conclusions TruNatomy maintained the original apical canal curvature in S-shaped curved canals better than ProTaper GOLD and WaveOne GOLD.

Abstract
The apically extruded debris caused by TruNatomy System (TRN), RACE EVO system (RE) and VDW Rotate (VR) systems in mandibular anterior teeth with ribbon-shaped root canals were compared. The root canals (n = 20 in each group) were irrigated with NaOCl 2.5%, and the extruded debris was collected at pre-weighted Eppendorf tubes. The amount of apically extruded debris (mg) and the treatment time (s) were recorded. Tukey pairwise comparisons were performed to compare groups with a 95% confidence level. VR had significantly less debris extrusion values and treatment time than RE and TRN (P < 0.05). Although no difference was observed between RE and TRN in terms of apically extruded debris (P > 0.05), a significant difference in favour of RE was observed in terms of treatment time (P < 0.05). All the instruments extruded debris at varying weights.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION This laboratory-based study aimed to investigate the quantitative amount of apically extruded debris from severely curved root canals and the preparation time for the novel rotary system TruNatomy (TN; Dentsply Sirona, Charlotte, NC) compared with Reciproc Blue (RCB; VDW Dental, Munich, Germany), HyFlex (HyFlex Controlled Memory [HCM; Coltene/Whaledent, Altstatten, Switzerland] and HyFlex EDM [HEDM, Coltene/Whaledent]), and ProTaper Next (PTN; Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland) rotary systems. METHODS One hundred mandibular molar human teeth with severe curvature of the mesiobuccal canal (25°-45°) were included in the present study. The specimens were randomly distributed into 5 balanced groups (n = 20): TN, RCB, HCM, PTN, and HEDM. The amount of extruded debris for each group during instrumentation at body temperature was collected in an Eppendorf tube. After desiccation, the mean debris weights for each group were calculated. The total preparation time for each group was also recorded. Data were statistically analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test at a significance level of P < .05. RESULTS The HCM and HEDM groups extruded a significantly higher amount of debris than the other tested groups (P < .001). TN extruded the least amount of debris, but it was not significantly different compared with the RCB and PTN groups (P > .05). In terms of preparation time, the TN group did not show any significant difference compared with the other groups. CONCLUSIONS All instrumentation systems extruded debris. TN was among the groups that produced the lowest amount of apically extruded debris that is clinically acceptable. The amount of apically extruded debris using the TN system was equal to 2 popular systems and statistically significantly less than 2 other popular systems studied.

Abstract
The purpose of this report is to evaluate the applicability of a novel Print and Try technique in the presence of aberrant endodontic anatomies and to achieve a predictable treatment with improved outcome. According to guidelines, cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is recommended in the presence of complex anatomies. The volumes were utilized to produce a stereo lithographic (STL) file, from which a 3D-plastic tooth model including a hollow root canal system was obtained. The 3D-patient-specific model facilitates the treatment planning and the trial of therapeutic approaches. Using a transparent material, all the treatment steps could be directly visualized. Subsequently, endodontic therapy could be performed in vivo with reduced operating time and with a better overview. Clinicians benefit from the Print and Try technique when facing a complicated root canal system with reduced stress and higher chances of success. In aberrant endodontic anatomies, the use of a transparent 3D plastic model, derived from the CBCT dicom, provides an exact preview of clinical challenges that will be met intra-operatively. A patient centered tailored approach to shaping, cleaning, and filling strategies can be applied.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION This research studies and compares the shaping ability of WaveOne Gold (WG; Dentsply Tulsa Dental Specialties, Tulsa, OK), the Reciproc Blue (RB; VDW, Munich, Germany), TRUShape (TS, Dentsply Tulsa Dental Specialties), XP-endo Shaper (XP; FKG, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland), iRace (IR, FKG), and TruNatomy (TN; Dentsply Sirona, Ballaigues, Switzerland) in the preparation of moderately curved canals and using micro-computed tomographic technology. METHODS Sixty lower molars with 2 mesial canals were randomly distributed into 6 groups of 10 molars and 20 canals per group (n = 20). Specimens were scanned before and after preparation using the SkyScan 1275 (Bruker microCT, Kontich, Belgium). Group 1 was treated with WG, group 2 with RB, group 3 with TS, group 4 with XP, group 5 with IR, and group 6 with TN. After instrumentation, researchers quantified the changes produced in the canal geometry in terms of surface, volume, structure thickness, surface convexity index, structure model index, percentage of surface touched, and centroids. Wilcoxon and analysis of variance tests were performed to compare the values before and after preparation and the differences between groups. The significance level was established at 5%. RESULTS There were no significant differences between WG and RB (P > .05) and between TN and XP (P > .05). TN had significant differences with WG, RB, TS, and IR (P < .05). All the files produced similar apical transportation (P > .05). CONCLUSIONS WG and RB and TN and XP had similar shaping effectivity. TS and WG touched the highest percentages of canal surfaces (81% and 73%, respectively) but produced the biggest changes in the canal anatomy. TN and XP better kept the canal anatomy, but TN touched the lowest percentage of canal surface (50%). All the files used were able to clean and to shape moderately curved canals with minimal apical transportation.

Abstract
To evaluate monotonic torsional resistance and fatigue resistance of novel SCOPE RS instruments and to compare ROTATE, Hyflex CM, OneCurve, and ProTaper Next instruments as a counterpart. The instrument groups were as follows: SCOPE RS; ROTATE; HyflexCM; OneCurve; ProTaperNext. The cyclic fatigue resistance of unused instruments was tested at both room and body temperatures (n = 10). The time to fracture, the mean number of cycles until failure, and the length of the fractured fragments were analyzed. The monotonic torsional resistance of new instruments was measured in accordingly American National Standards/American Dental Association No. 28 and International Organization for Standardization 3630-1:2008 specifications (n = 10). The maximum torque and angular deflection at break were recorded. The fractographic examination was performed by scanning electron microscope. Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy was used to investigate the microstructure of NiTi instruments. One-way ANOVA with Games-Howell Post Hoc multiple comparisons tests were used (p < .05). The ROTATE had superior cyclic fatigue resistance than other groups in both temperature conditions (p < .01). However, it exhibited lower torsional resistance than SCOPE RS (p < .01). SCOPE RS had superior torsional resistance than other groups (p < .01). Micrographs revealed typical features of fatigue behaviors in all groups. Weight percentages of the Ni and Ti revealed similarity for all instruments. The novel SCOPE RS instruments presented superior monotonic torsional resistance but failed to show any improvement in the cyclic fatigue resistance compared with its counterparts, ROTATE, HyflexCM, and OneCurve.
