Abstract
Objective To evaluate the enamel bonding ability and orthodontic adhesive resin degree of conversion using the experimental bracket design. Material and Methods. Thirteen bovine teeth were used in the study. The experimental bracket was modified with a translucent region in the center of its body. After enamel etching, Orthocem orthodontic adhesive (FGM, Joinville, Brazil) was applied on the bracket base for bonding. The groups were divided as follows (n = 10 per group): (1) control (CB) with standard brackets and (2) spot bracket (SB) with experimental brackets featuring a 0.8 mm translucent region at the center using carbide bur. Shear bond strength (SBS) was evaluated after 24 hours in a universal testing machine and adhesive remnant index (ARI). The degree of conversion (DC) was analyzed using Raman spectroscopy (n = 3 per group). Data were then analyzed using Student's t-test and Mann-Whitney statistical methods. Results The SB group exhibited a higher mean SBS (10.33 MPa) compared to the CB Group (8.77 MPa). However, there was no statistical difference between the groups (p = 0.376). Both SB and CB groups had a mean ARI score of 1. Raman analysis revealed a higher degree of conversion in the SB group (49.3%) compared to the CB group (25.9%). Conclusions The experimental support showed a higher degree of adhesive conversion, although there was no significant increase in bond strength.

Abstract
AIMS To evaluate the impact of conditioning protocols, aluminum trioxide (Al2O3), Er:YAG laser (EYL), and Rosebengal (RB), on the surface roughness (Ra) and shear bond strength (SBS) of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) attached to composite restorations. METHOD Eighty PEEK discs in total were produced and then divided into four groups (n = 20). Group1:Sulfuric acid (SA), Group 2: PDT (RB), Group 3: Al2O3, Group 4 EYL, respectively. The Ra of PEEK discs was evaluated using the surface profilometer. After being luted, the discs were attached to composite resin discs. After that, samples were put to SBS testing on a Universal testing apparatus. A stereo microscope was also used to evaluate the type of breakdown. The data were analyzed using Tukey's test and one-way analysis of variance. RESULTS The SA treated group exhibited the highest Ra. Nevertheless, the RB specimens activated by PDT treatment had the lowest mean Ra score. The group that received the treatment of SA exhibited the highest average score of SBS. In contrast, specimens treated with PDT and activated by RB exhibited the lowest levels of bond fidelity. Cohesive failure emerges as the prevailing kind of fracture within the various groups subjected to testing. CONCLUSION The utilization of Al2O3, RB activated by PDT, and EYL shows promise as a viable substitute for Sulfuric acid in enhancing the bond integrity of composite cement and surface roughness in PEEK materials.

Abstract
Successful orthodontic therapy, apart from a proper treatment plan, depends on optimal bracket-enamel adhesion. Among numerous factors affecting adhesion, the type of bracket and preparation of the tooth's surface are crucial. The aim of this study was to compare the shear bond strength (SBS) of metal and ceramic brackets to the enamel's surface using direct bonding. Forty extracted human premolars were divided into four groups according to the etching method (etch-and-rinse and self-etch) and bracket type. The SBS and adhesive remnant index (ARI) were determined. The ceramic brackets achieved the highest SBS values both in the self-etch (SE) and etch-and-rinse (ER) protocols. Higher SBS values for ceramic and metallic brackets were found in the ER protocol. In all tested groups, the achieved SBS value was satisfactory to withstand orthodontic and occlusal forces. There was no significant difference in the ARI score between study groups (p = 0.71). The fracture occurred between the bracket base and adhesive material in both types of brackets, which decreased the risk of enamel damage during debonding.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nowadays bleaching procedures have gained popularity in orthodontic patients. Peroxide and Carbamide acids are the common agents which are used in in-office and at home bleaching techniques. Consequently, the Bonding adhesion to the enamel can be influenced by the orthodontic phase and the residual peroxide might interfere with the polymerization and the adhesion of the brackets. Frequent debonding of the brackets from teeth after the bleaching procedure could cause the lengthening of the therapy and promote irregularities on enamel surface derived from an additional bonding phase of the brackets. The aim of this systematic review is to appraise the influence regarding the effect of the bleaching procedure on the bond strength of orthodontic brackets. METHODS An electronic database search was performed. Search terms included: bleaching, brackets, adhesion; data were extracted and summarized. Risk of bias was assessed using the Chocrane risk of bias tool, adapted for in vitro studies. RESULTS A total of 8689 articles were screened and 11 studies met the inclusion criteria of this systematic review. 1000 teeth of human and bovine origin were analyzed for the shear bond strength (SBS) of stainless and ceramic brackets after the bleaching treatments. All the authors divided the groups in different subgroups with different bleaching agents and in different concentration. The SBS value allowed to demonstrate the necessity to delay the bonding of the brackets for two weeks after a bleaching treatment and its improvement when tooth mousse or antioxidants agents are used. CONCLUSIONS The SBS values and the delay of the bonding procedure must be considered in dental practice and clinical strategies are necessary in order to avoid drawbacks which could cause the debonding of the brackets after bleaching due to the alterations of the dental substrate, thus interfering with the orthodontic treatments.

Combined Effects of Different Bracket Bonding Adhesives and Different Resin Removal Methods on Enamel Discoloration: A Preliminary Study. Int J Dent 2023; 2023:8838264. Abstract
Introduction This study aimed to investigate the effects of 3 orthodontic bracket adhesives and 3 resin removal methods on enamel discoloration. Methods Ninety metal orthodontic brackets were bonded to 90 intact human premolars, using 3 adhesives (total etch composite (Transbond), self-etch composite (OptiBond), and light-curedresin-modified glass ionomer cement (RMGI, Fuji); n = 3 × 30). Each "bracket bonding" group (n = 30) was randomly divided into three subgroups of 10 specimens each, each with a different method of remnant resin removal (using only tungsten carbide burs; using tungsten carbide burs plus Sof-Lex polisher discs; using tungsten carbide burs and Stainbuster burs; n = 3 × 30). After bracket debonding and coffee staining (at 37°C for one week), the color change parameters (Δa, Δb, ΔL, and ΔE) were measured and then analyzed statistically (α = 0.05). Results All 9 mean ΔE values were significantly greater than 3.7 and 1.0 (P values ≤0.002, t-test). The effects of composites and resin removal methods on the ΔE parameter (and their interaction) were significant (P values ≤0.008, two-way ANOVA). There were significant pairwise comparisons between total etch (Transbond) and each of the other composites (P values ≤0.008, Tukey). Nonetheless, the difference between self-etch (OptiBond) and RMGI (Fuji) was not significant (P=0.967). There were significant pairwise comparisons between the ΔE parameter of group "Bur + Stainbuster" and ΔE of each of the other methods (both P values ≤0.017). Conclusions All 9 pairs of adhesives and resin removal techniques will cause quite visible discolorations. Still, self-etch composites or RMGI might be recommended over total etch composites. Moreover, using Stainbuster burs together with tungsten carbide burs is recommended to reduce discoloration. However, the coloration caused by each composite type can change drastically given the following adhesive removal technique used.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The study investigated the effects of an orthodontic primer containing amorphous fluorinated calcium phosphate (AFCP) nanoparticles on enamel white spot lesions (WSLs). MATERIALS AND METHODS The AFCP nanoparticles were prepared and incorporated into Transbond XT Primer. Thirty-two human enamel slices were highly polished and randomly divided into four groups: no part covered (control), half covered with a primer containing 0 wt%, 25 wt%, and 35 wt% AFCP. Subsequently, samples were challenged by a modified pH-cycling and characterized by color measurement, micro-computed tomography, and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The bonding properties of the primers containing AFCP were assessed using shear bond strength test, and the mouse fibroblasts (L929) were employed to evaluate the cytotoxicity. RESULTS When the enamel was challenged by pH cycling, 25 wt% and 35 wt% AFCP groups exhibited less color change (ΔE) and less mineral loss than the control and 0 wt% AFCP groups. The SEM images showed that the original microstructural integrity and mineral deposition rate of the enamel surface were better in the 25 wt% and 35 wt% AFCP groups. In particular, the 35 wt% AFCP group exhibited the best performance after 3 weeks of pH cycling. The shear bond strength and cell viability revealed no significant difference among the tested groups (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION Using the primer containing 35 wt% AFCP might be a promising strategy for preventing the occurrence and development of WSLs during orthodontic treatment.

Abstract
The combination of two dissimilar materials has always been a serious problem in dentistry. In order to meet this challenge, it is necessary to combine both chemical methods (treatment with silanes, (meth)acrylic functional monomers) and the development of the surface of the joined material in a physical way, e.g., by sandblasting with alumina, alumina with silica, acid etching, the use of lasers and other means. The purpose of this literature review is to present all methods of joining dental composites with other materials such as ceramics, metal, another composite material. This review covers articles published within the period 2012-2022 in journals indexed in the PubMed database, written in English and describing joining different dental materials to each other. All the critical steps of new joint preparation have been addressed, including proper cleaning of the joint surface, the application of appropriate primers capable of forming a chemical bond between ceramics, zirconium oxide or metals and alloys, and finally, the application of new composite materials.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed at formulating antibacterial orthodontic resins containing alkyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (ATAB) and evaluating their physicochemical and biological properties. MATERIALS AND METHODS The chemical composition and microstructure of ATAB was characterized through FTIR and SEM, respectively. Experimental orthodontic BisGMA/TEGDMA-based resins were formulated, and the ATAB filler was incorporated at 1wt%, 5wt%, and 10wt%, along with colloidal silica (5wt%). The degree of conversion, softening in solvent, and flexural strength of the experimental resins were analyzed. Biological properties were also assessed through cytotoxicity and antibacterial analyses. RESULTS The incorporation of ATAB, due to the presence of ⎯N+(CH3)3 alkyl groups, had no adverse effect on the degree of conversion of the resins (p > 0.05). The %ΔKHN values at 5wt% and 10wt% were comparable to those of the control group, while the flexural strength was reduced at all concentrations of ATAB. The viability of the gingival fibroblast was reduced with the addition of ATAB (p < 0.05). The viability of biofilm and planktonic bacteria was reduced when ATAB was incorporated at 5wt% and 10wt%. CONCLUSIONS The addition of ATAB at 5wt% resulted suitable for the formulation of orthodontic resins with the ability to control the biofilm formation and planktonic activity of S.mutans, without jeopardizing some specific physicochemical properties. CLINICAL RELEVANCE White spot lesions in orthodontic patients may be controlled by preventive treatments. Non-patient-dependent strategies, such as the use of orthodontic resins containing ATAB, may avoid accumulation of bacteria, especially in those areas surrounding orthodontic appliances.
