Epicardial carvernous hemangioma: The diagnostic challenge of a middle mediastinal mass

Primary tumors in the middle mediastinum are rare and pose diagnostic challenges. Lymphomas, mediastinal cysts and thymomas most frequently affect this anatomic area. Primary cardiac tumors are rare and constitute a differential diagnosis for the inferior middle mediastinum. Surgical exploration and resection is often mandatory in order to make a definitive diagnosis. Here, we report the case of a 69 year-old women who presented with persistent dyspnea. A complete preoperative workup revealed a large tissular mass adjacent to the right atrium. A diagnosis of a typical epicardial cavernous hemangioma was made following surgical resection.

Left Ventricle Intramuscular Haemangioma: A case report and review of literature

Cardiac haemangiomas are rare cardiac tumours that are usually asymptomatic and detected incidentally while imaging the heart with echocardiogram. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) is a non-ionising imaging modality that allows the diagnosis of cardiac haemangiomas prior to surgery. We report a 36-year old male patient who was referred to the Adult Cardiology Clinic at the Royal Hospital, Muscat, Oman, in 2006 with a history of a left ventricle mass detected on echocardiogram. Further assessment of the mass by CMR revealed that the mass within the left ventricle apical septum contained features that were consistent with a cardiac haemangioma. Due to the surgical risk of ventricular septal defect and the stability of the mass, the patient was managed conservatively and upon follow-up the patient’s condition remained stable.

Swollen Painful Neck: A Case of a Ruptured Venous Malformation

A 16-year-old male was brought to our hospital presenting with acute onset of a painful protruding left neck mass within a day, associated with left upper-arm tenderness. Chest computed tomography revealed high attenuation masses at the left supraclavicular and mediastinal regions, suspected of being venous vascular tumors. Surgery was arranged and then ruptured venous tumor was noted, with pathology results determining a venous malformation.

Hemangioma originating from the main pulmonary artery

In this study, we report the case of a 42-year-old female patient who was diagnosed with hemangioma in the pericardium connected to the main pulmonary artery. Chest CT revealed a hypodense, well-marginated, mass-like lesion, probably connected to the main pulmonary artery, and multiple heterogeneous attenuations were seen with contrast enhancement. The tumor was resected using conventional extracorporeal circulation for complete resection involving the main pulmonary artery wall. Pathologic examination revealed hemangioma. Because main pulmonary originated hemangioma is extremely rare, examination of these cases provides much needed data to further our understanding of this disease. We herein report such a case.
