Abstract
PURPOSE We investigated racial disparities in survival by histology in cervical cancer and examined the factors contributing to these disparities. METHODS Non-Hispanic Black and non-Hispanic White (hereafter known as Black and White) patients with stage I-IV cervical carcinoma diagnosed between 2004 and 2017 in the National Cancer Database were studied. Survival differences were compared using Cox modeling to estimate hazard ratio (HR) or adjusted HR (AHR) and 95% confidence interval (CI). The contribution of demographic, socioeconomic and clinical factors to the Black vs White differences in survival was estimated after applying propensity score weighting in patients with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) or adenocarcinoma (AC). RESULTS This study included 10,111 Black and 43,252 White patients with cervical cancer. Black patients had worse survival than White cervical cancer patients (HR = 1.40, 95% CI = 1.35-1.45). Survival disparities between Black and White patients varied significantly by histology (HR = 1.20, 95% CI = 1.15-1.24 for SCC; HR = 2.32, 95% CI = 2.12-2.54 for AC, interaction p < 0.0001). After balancing the selected demographic, socioeconomic and clinical factors, survival in Black vs. White patients was no longer different in those with SCC (AHR = 1.01, 95% CI 0.97-1.06) or AC (AHR = 1.09, 95% CI = 0.96-1.24). In SCC, the largest contributors to survival disparities were neighborhood income and insurance. In AC, age was the most significant contributor followed by neighborhood income, insurance, and stage. Diagnosis of AC (but not SCC) at ≥65 years old was more common in Black vs. White patients (26% vs. 13%, respectively). CONCLUSIONS Histology matters in survival disparities and diagnosis at ≥65 years old between Black and White cervical cancer patients. These disparities were largely explained by modifiable factors.

Abstract
To develop and validate a nomograph to predict the long-term survival probability of cervical cancer (CC) patients in Asia, Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) were used to collect information about CC patients in Asia. The patient data were randomly sampled and divided into a training group and a validation group by 7:3. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression was used to screen key indicators, and multivariate Cox regression model was used to establish a prognostic risk prediction model for CC patients. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and decision curve analysis (DCA) were adopted to comprehensively evaluate the nomogram model. LASSO regression and multivariate Cox proportional hazards model analysis showed that age, American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) Stage, AJCC T, tumor size, and surgery were independent risk factors for prognosis. The ROC curve results proved that the area under curve (AUC) values of the training group in 3 and 5 years were 0.837 and 0.818, The AUC values of the validation group in 3 and 5 years were 0.796 and 0.783. DCA showed that the 3- and 5-year overall survival (OS) nomograms had good clinical potential value. The nomogram model developed in this study can effectively predict the prognosis of Asian patients with CC, and the risk stratification system based on this nomogram prediction model has some clinical value for discriminating high-risk patients.

Abstract
Background Usual-type cervical adenocarcinoma is the most frequent type of adenocarcinoma, and its prevalence is increasing worldwide. Tumor recurrence is the leading cause of mortality; therefore, recognizing the risk factors for cervical cancer recurrence and providing effective therapy for recurrent cervical cancer are critical steps in increasing patient survival rates. This study aimed to retrospectively analyze the clinicopathological data of patients with usual-type cervical adenocarcinoma by combining the diagnosis and treatment records after the initial treatment and recurrence. Methods We retrospectively analyzed patients diagnosed with usual-type cervical adenocarcinoma who underwent radical hysterectomy and pelvic lymph node dissection at Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University between June 2013 and June 2022. We constructed a nomogram-based postoperative recurrence prediction model, internally evaluated its efficacy, and performed internal validation. Results This study included 395 participants, including 87 individuals with recurrence. At a 7:3 ratio, the 395 patients were divided into two groups: a training set (n = 276) and a validation set (n = 119). The training set was subjected to univariate analysis, and the risk variables for recurrence included smoking, ovarian metastasis, International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) staging, lymphovascular space invasion, perineural invasion, depth of muscular invasion, tumor size, lymph node metastasis, and postoperative HPV infection months. The aforementioned components were analyzed using logistic regression analysis, and the results showed that the postoperative HPV infection month, tumor size, perineural invasion, and FIGO stage were independent risk factors for postoperative recurrence (p<0.05). The aforementioned model was represented as a nomogram. The training and validation set consistency indices, calculated using the bootstrap method of internal validation, were 0.88 and 0.86, respectively. The model constructed in this study predicted the postoperative recurrence of usual-type cervical cancer, as indicated by the receiver operating characteristic curve. The model demonstrated good performance, as evidenced by the area under the curve, sensitivity, and specificity values of 0.90, 0.859, and 0.844, respectively. Conclusion Based on the FIGO staging, peripheral nerve invasion, tumor size, and months of postoperative HPV infection, the predictive model and nomogram for postoperative recurrence of usual-type cervical adenocarcinoma are precise and effective. More extensive stratified evaluations of the risk of cervical adenocarcinoma recurrence are still required, as is a thorough assessment of postoperative recurrence in the future.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cervical cancer is the fourth most common malignant tumor troubling women worldwide. Whether marital status affects the prognosis of cervical cancer is still unclear. Here, we investigate the prognostic value of marital status in patients with cervical cancer based on the seer database. MATERIAL/METHODS The demographic and clinical data of patients with cervical cancer were extracted from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database from 1975 to 2017. Patients were divided into two groups (married and unmarried) according to marital status, and then the clinical characteristics of each group were compared using the chi-square test. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to reduce differences in baseline characteristics. The overall survival (OS) and cervical cancer-specific survival (CCSS) were assessed by the Kaplan-Meier method, univariate and multivariate Cox regression models, and stratified analysis. Moreover, univariate and multivariate competing risk regression models were performed to calculate hazard ratios (HR) of death risk. RESULTS A total of 21,148 patients were included in this study, including 10,603 married patients and 10,545 unmarried patients. Married patients had better OS(P < 0.05) and CCSS (P < 0.05) compared to unmarried patients, and marital status was an independent prognostic factor for both OS (HR: 0.830, 95% CI: 0.798-0.862) and CCSS (HR: 0.892, 95% CI: 0.850-0.937). Moreover, after eliminating the competing risk, married patients (CCSD: HR:0.723, 95% CI: 0.683-0.765, P < 0.001) had a significantly decreased risk of death compared to unmarried patients. In stratified analysis, the married patients showed better OS and CCSS than the unmarried patients diagnosed in 1975-2000 and 2001-2017. CONCLUSIONS Being married was associated with a favorable prognosis of cervical cancer, and marital status was an independent prognostic factor for cervical cancer.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We aimed to evaluate the treatment modality and prognostic impact of the age at diagnosis on stage IIB-IVA cervix carcinoma (CC) patients who received radiotherapy (RT).The evaluation was performed using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. PATIENTS AND METHODS From the SEER database, we included the patients with a histopathological diagnosis of CC between 2004 and 2016. Subsequently, we compared the treatment outcomes between patients aged ≥ 65 years (OG) and < 65 years (YG) by propensity score matching (PSM) analysis and Cox proportional hazard regression models. RESULTS The data of 5,705 CC patients were obtained from the SEER database. We observed that the OG patients were significantly less likely to receive chemotherapy, brachytherapy, or combination treatment compared to the YG (P < 0.001). Further, the advanced age at diagnosis was an independent prognostic factor associated with decreasing overall survival (OS) before and after PSM. Even in the subgroup analysis of patients who received trimodal therapy, an advanced age had a significant negative impact on OS compared to their younger counterparts. CONCLUSION Advanced age is associated with less aggressive treatment regimens and is independently associated with impaired OS for stage IIB-IVA CC patients who received RT. Hence, future studies should incorporate geriatric assessment into clinical decision-making to select appropriate and effective treatment strategies for elderly CC patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cervical cancer is the 4th most common cancer in women worldwide. as well as the 4th most common cause of cancer-related death. The main objective of this study was to identify factors that affect the survival time of outpatients with cervical cancer. METHODS A retrolective study including outpatients with cervical cancer was carried out in a hospital. To achieve the aim, 322 outpatients with cervical cancer were included in the study based on the data taken from the medical records of patients enrolled from May 15, 2018, to May 15, 2022, at the University of Gondar referral hospital, Gondar, Ethiopia. The Kaplan-Meier plots and log-rank test were used for the comparison of survival functions; the Cox-PH model and Bayesian parametric survival models were used to analyze the survival times of outpatients with cervical cancer. Integrated nested Laplace approximation methods have been applied. RESULTS Out of a total of 322 patients, 118 (36.6%) died as outpatients. The estimated median survival time for patients was 42 months. Using model selection criteria, the Bayesian log-normal accelerated failure time model was found to be appropriate. According to the results of this model, oral contraceptive use, HIV, stage, grade, co-morbid disease, history of abortion, weight, histology type, FIGO stage, radiation, chemotherapy, LVSI, metastatic number, regional nodes examined, and tumor size all have a significant impact on the survival time of outpatients with cervical cancer. The Bayesian log-normal accelerated failure time model accurately predicted the survival time of cervical cancer outpatients. CONCLUSIONS The findings of this study suggested that reductions in weight, treatment, the presence of comorbid disease, the presence of HIV, squamous cell histology type, having a history of abortion, oral contraceptive use, a large tumor size, an increase in the International Federation of Gynecologists and Obstetricians stage, an increase in metastasis number, an increase in grade, positive regional nodes, lymphatic vascular space invasion, and late stages of cancer all shortened the survival time of cervical cancer outpatients.

Immunotherapy has shown great promise in the field of oncology, and recent clinical trials have illustrated that immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) is safe and effective at treating a range of tumor types. Cervical cancer (CC) is the fourth most common malignancy in women. However, first-line treatments for locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC) and recurrent/metastatic (R/M) CC have limited efficacy. Thus, it is necessary to explore new treatment approaches. The National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) currently recommends pembrolizumab, a programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) monoclonal antibody, as a first line therapy for individuals with R/M CC. This study reviews the progress of ICB therapy for LACC and R/M CC and describes the current status of the combination of ICB therapy and other therapeutic modalities, including radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and other immunotherapies. The focus is placed on studies published since 2018 with the aim of highlighting novel CC-specific immunotherapeutic approaches and treatment targets.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Pelvic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a key exam used for the initial assessment of loco-regional involvement of cervical cancer. In patients with locally advanced cervical cancer, MRI is used to evaluate the early response to radiochemotherapy before image-guided brachytherapy, the prognostic impact of which we aimed to study. METHODS Patients with locally advanced cervical cancer treated using concomitant radiochemotherapy followed by closure treatment between January 2010 and December 2015 were included in this study. Clinical, anatomopathological, radiological, therapeutic, and follow-up data were evaluated. RESULTS After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria to the initially chosen 310 patients, 232 were included for evaluation (median follow-up period, 5.3 years). The median age was 50 years (range, 25-83 years), and the median tumor size was 47.5 mm (range, 0-105 mm). Based on the International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics classification system, 9 patients were in stage IB2; 20, IB3; 2, IIA; 63, IIB; 4, IIIA; 7, IIIB; and 127, IIIC1 or higher. The re-evaluation MRI was performed at the median dose of 55.5 Gy, and median reduction in tumor size was 55.2% (range, -20-100%). There was a difference between the disease-free and overall survival rates of the patients with a tumor response greater or lesser than 50%. The risk of recurrence or death reduced by 39% in patients with a tumor size reduction >50%. The overall 5-year survival rate of patients with a response greater and lesser than 50% were 77.7% and 61.5%, respectively. The 5-year disease-free survival rate for these two groups of patients were 68.8% and 51.5%, respectively. CONCLUSION Our study confirms the prognostic impact of tumor size reduction using MRI data obtained after radiochemotherapy in patients with locally advanced cervical cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Optimal treatment of cervical cancer is based on disease stage; therefore, an understanding of the global epidemiology of specific stages of locally advanced disease is needed. OBJECTIVE This systematic literature review was conducted to understand the global and region-specific proportions of patients with cervical cancer with locally advanced disease and to determine the incidence of the locally advanced disease. METHODS Systematic searches identified observational studies published in English between 2010 and June 10, 2020, reporting the proportion of patients with, and/or incidence of, locally advanced stages of cervical cancer (considered International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) IB2-IVA). Any staging criteria were considered as long as the proportion with locally advanced disease was distinguishable. For each study, the proportion of locally advanced disease among the cervical cancer population was estimated. RESULTS The 40 included studies represented 28 countries in North or South America, Asia, Europe, and Africa. Thirty-eight studies reported the proportion of locally advanced disease among populations with cervical cancer. The estimated median proportion of locally advanced disease among all cervical cancer was 37.0% (range 5.6-97.5%; IQR 25.8-52.1%); estimates were generally lowest in North America and highest in Asia. Estimated proportions of ≥50% were reported in nine studies from Asia, Europe, Brazil, and Morocco; estimates ≤25% were reported in six studies from Asia, United States, Brazil, and South Africa. Locally advanced disease was reported for 44% and 49% of women aged >70 and ≥60 years, and 5-100% of younger women with cervical cancer. A greater proportion of locally advanced disease was reported for Asian American (19%) versus White women (8%) in one United States study. Two of five studies describing the incidence of locally advanced disease reported rates of 2-4/100 000 women among different time frames. CONCLUSION This review highlights global differences in proportions of locally advanced cervical cancer, including regional variance and disparities according to patient race and age.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess whether radiation completion within a planned timeframe in locally advanced squamous cell vulvar cancer impacts overall survival (OS). METHODS The National Cancer Database from 2004 to 2017 was used to identify women ≥18 years old with stage II-IVA squamous cell vulvar cancer. We included women who received radiation alone (RT) or concurrent chemoradiation (CRT) for initial vulvar cancer treatment. Primary outcome was overall survival associated with time of delay in radiation completion. RESULTS There were 2378 women identified (n = 856 RT and n = 1522 CRT). Median age was 67 (IQR 56-78), majority (88.35%) were white with advanced stage III or IVA (72.29%) disease. Median radiation dose was 5720 c-Gray (IQR 5040-6300). Radiation completion with delay ≥7 days resulted in reduction in survival compared to delay of <7 days (unadjusted HR 1.183 [95%CI: 1.066-1.313], p = 0.0016). When delays extended to ≥14 days compared to <14 days there was increased hazard of death (unadjusted HR: 1.263 [95%CI:1.126-1.416], p < 0.0001). Survival improved for patients with <7 versus ≥7 days delay whether treatment was with RT (median OS: 34.9 months versus 21.6 months, p < 0.01) or CRT (Median OS:58 months versus 41.3 months, p < 0.01). Stage IVA disease was associated with the greatest increase in hazard of death (HR 1.759 [95%CI 1.517-2.039], p < 0.0001) compared to stage II. CONCLUSION Radiation completion with <7 days delay is associated with improved overall survival, independent of concurrent chemotherapy. This suggest that strategies to minimize delays in radiation are crucial in locally advanced vulvar cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The standard treatment for locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC) is chemoradiation (CRT) with cisplatin, followed by brachytherapy, but is less defined for cisplatin-intolerant patients. We synthesized evidence on treatment outcomes with definitive radiotherapy (RT) with or without chemotherapy (ChT) in these patients. METHODS We performed a systematic search and included 20 relevant studies. We extracted data on response, survival, compliance, and toxicity, and performed meta-analyses of outcome rates and risk ratios. Sensitivity and subgroup analyses were performed to explore sources of heterogeneity. Meta-regression was performed to examine the effects of other variables. RESULTS Due to lack of comparative data, most comparisons were indirect and derived from the proportional meta-analyses. Complete response (85%) and survival (62% 5yOS) rates are comparable to those published for LACC without contraindications to cisplatin. Survival rate is better with CRT than RT alone (5yOS, 73% vs 58%), and with nodal boost (NB) than without (5yOS, 71% vs 56%). Carboplatin CRT is associated with lower 5yOS (44%) but better ChT compliance (86%) when compared to other interventions. ChT compliance is better in renal failure than elderly cohorts (89% vs 67%). RT compliance is lower with CRT than RT alone (90% vs 96%), and higher with NB than none (96% vs 93%). NB is associated with lower RT compliance than no NB, when ChT is given. Meta-regression results affirm ChT and NB to be significant positive factors for survival, and NB, which is associated with greater use of advanced RT techniques, for RT compliance. CONCLUSION For those with relative contraindications, cisplatin CRT is effective and well-tolerated. For those with absolute contraindications, carboplatin is well-tolerated but with unclear effectiveness. Nodal boost is effective and well-tolerated, but is less tolerated when concurrent ChT is given.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We conducted a Pattern-of-care (POC) study at two premier-most public-funded oncology centers in Morocco to evaluate delays in care continuum and adherence to internationally accepted treatment guidelines of cervical cancer. METHOD Following a systematic sampling method, cervical cancer patients registered at Centre Mohammed VI (Casablanca) and Institut National d'Oncologie (Rabat) during 2 months of every year from 2008 to 2017, were included in this retrospective study. Relevant information was abstracted from the medical records. RESULTS A total of 886 patients was included in the analysis; 59.5% were at stage I/II. No appreciable change in stage distribution was observed over time. Median access and treatment delays were 5.0 months and 2.3 months, respectively without any significant temporal change. Concurrent chemotherapy was administered to 57.7% of the patients receiving radiotherapy. Surgery was performed on 81.2 and 34.8% of stage I and II patients, respectively. A very high proportion (85.7%) of operated patients received post-operative radiation therapy. Median interval between surgery and initiation of radiotherapy was 3.1 months. Only 45.3% of the patients treated with external beam radiation received brachytherapy. Radiotherapy was completed within 10 weeks in 77.4% patients. An overall 5-year disease-free survival (DFS) was observed in 57.5% of the patients - ranging from 66.1% for stage I to 31.1% for stage IV. Addition of brachytherapy to radiation significantly improved survival at all stages. The study has the usual limitations of retrospective record-based studies, which is data incompleteness. CONCLUSION Delays in care continuum need to be further reduced. Increased use of chemoradiation and brachytherapy will improve survival further.

Abstract
Cervical cancer constitutes a significant health burden for women globally. While most patients with early-stage disease can be cured with radical surgery or chemoradiotherapy, patients with high-risk locally advanced disease or with recurrent/metastatic disease have a poor prognosis with standard treatments. Immunotherapies are a rational treatment for this HPV-driven cancer that commonly expresses programmed cell death ligand-1. Before 2021, pembrolizumab was the only United States Food and Drug Administration-approved immunotherapy in cervical cancer, specifically for the second-line recurrent or metastatic (r/m) setting. In late 2021, the antibody-drug conjugate tisotumab vedotin was approved for second-line r/m cervical cancer and pembrolizumab combined with chemotherapy ± bevacizumab was approved for first-line r/m disease based on results from KEYNOTE-826. Moreover, with at least 2 dozen additional immunotherapy clinical trials in the second-line and first-line r/m setting, as well as in locally advanced disease, the treatment landscape for cervical cancer may eventually encounter a potential paradigm shift. Pivotal trials of immunotherapies for cervical cancer that were recently approved or with the potential for regulatory consideration through 2024 are reviewed. As immunotherapy has the opportunity to establish new standards of care in the treatment of cervical cancers, new biomarkers to identify the ideal patient populations for these therapies may also become important. However, issues with access, affordability, and compliance in low- and middle-income countries are anticipated.

Purpose This study aimed to assess the prognostic factors of overall survival (OS) in patients with stage IIB–IVA cervix carcinoma (CC) who underwent external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) and brachytherapy (BRT) and to compare the prognostic accuracy of the 2014 and 2018 International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) staging system using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Methods Patients with a histopathological diagnosis of CC between 2004 and 2016 were included. The primary endpoint was OS. The prognostic significance for OS was analyzed by the Cox regression model. Prognostic accuracy in evaluating 3- and 5-year OS in different staging systems was evaluated using time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (tdROC) curves. Results A total of 2585 patients with stage IIB–IVA CC, staged according to the 2014 FIGO staging system, were included in the study. The 3- and 5-year OS rates were 63.9% and 56.6%, respectively, with a median OS of 98 months. Independent variables, such as older age at diagnosis, histological grades apart from well or moderately differentiated, large tumor size, advanced tumor stages classified according to the 2014 and 2018 FIGO staging systems and treatment without chemotherapy or unknown were associated with a worse OS. A tdROC analysis conducted using DeLong’s tests revealed no significant difference in the prediction of 3- and 5-year OS between the 2014 and 2018 FIGO staging systems (P = 0.912 and 0.863, respectively). Conclusion Both 2014 and 2018 FIGO staging systems were strong prognostic factors for OS. No significant risk classification was observed for stage IIIC1 disease in the revised 2018 FIGO staging system for patients who underwent EBRT and BRT.

Abstract
Background: The most often diagnosed malignancy in women worldwide is cancer of the cervix. It is also the most prevalent kind of gynecological cancer in women. This cancer originates in the opening of the cervix and spreads through sexual contact. Even though human papillomavirus (HPV) may not cause cancer immediately, it does develop over time as a result of the virus’s lengthy persistence to cause dysplastic changes overtime, particularly in high-risk kinds. The primary objective of this research is to see if miRNAs are dysregulated as a result of treatment resistance in cervical cancer (CC). The aim is to see if these microRNAs may be utilized as biomarkers for detecting chemoresistance in CC, particularly for clinical applications. Methods: The recommended protocol for comprehensive study and meta-analysis (PRISMA-P) standards will be utilized for the analysis and data interpretation. The bibliographic databases will be methodically searched using a combination of search keywords. Based on established inclusion and exclusion criteria, the acquired findings will be reviewed, and data retrieved from the selected scientific papers for systematic review. We will then construct a forest from the pooled Hazard ratio (HR) and 95% C.I. values, data obtained using the random-effects model. Discussion: The focus of this study is to identify the function of miRNAs as a chemoresistance regulator and determine if they have the potential scope to be considered as biomarkers for cervical cancer. Through this systematic review and meta-analysis, the goal is to collect, compare, and analyze the data pertaining to the role of miRNAs in cervical cancer, thereby, enabling us to understand the role they play in chemosensitivity.

Abstract
Cervical cancer is one of the most common causes of cancer-related deaths in women worldwide. Despite advances in current therapies, women with advanced or recurrent disease present poor prognosis. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has emerged as an effective therapeutic alternative to treat oncological diseases such as cervical cancer. Phthalocyanines (Pcs) are considered good photosensitizers (PS) for PDT, although most of them present high levels of aggregation and are lipophilic. Despite many investigations and encouraging results, Pcs have not been approved as PS for PDT of invasive cervical cancer yet. This review presents an overview on the pathophysiology of cervical cancer and summarizes the most recent developments on the physicochemical properties of Pcs and biological results obtained both in vitro in tumor-bearing mice and in clinical tests reported in the last five years. Current evidence indicates that Pcs have potential as pharmaceutical agents for anti-cervical cancer therapy. The authors firmly believe that Pc-based formulations could emerge as a privileged scaffold for the establishment of lead compounds for PDT against different types of cervical cancer.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The prognostic impact and treatment responses among cervical cancer patients with different histological types remains inconclusive. To determine the prognostic effects of different histologic types, we identified 39,088 patients with a diagnosis of cervical cancer between 2004 and 2016 from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results program. METHODS Variables related to the prognosis of cervical cancer were evaluated using log-rank method and univariate/multivariate Cox models before and after propensity score matching. RESULT Of the 36,310 patients, Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) was the most common histological type (n = 27,043, 74.5%), followed by adenocarcinoma (AC, n = 7755, 21.4%) and adenosquamous carcinoma (ASC, n = 1512, 4.1%). Compared to SCC patients, patients with AC (HR = 1.14, 95%CI = 1.09-1.20, P < 0.01) and ASC (HR = 1.28, 95%CI = 1.18-1.40, P < 0.01) showed significantly poorer prognosis. Subgroup analyses indicated that the differences in prognosis between AC and SCC were only observed in stage II and III patients (P < 0.01). In patients with concurrent chemoradiotherapy, survival rates of patients with AC were significantly worse compared with similar patients with SCC (HR = 1.14, 95%CI = 1.03-1.27; P < 0.01). CONCLUSION The prognostic impact of histologic types among patients with cervical cancer depends on tumor stages and therapeutic approaches. Tailored treatment and follow-up planning need to be developed across patients with different histological types and stages.

Abstract
Objective This study aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes for patients with stage IB2/IIA2 cervical squamous cell carcinoma treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy combined with radical surgery. Methods A total of 68 patients with cervical squamous cell carcinoma were randomly divided into the experimental group (n = 35) and the control group (n = 33). The patients in the experimental group received paclitaxel plus cisplatin neoadjuvant chemotherapy for two cycles, then underwent radical hysterectomy and bilateral adnexectomy at 2 weeks post-chemotherapy. The control group only underwent radical hysterectomy and bilateral adnexectomy after the diagnosis of cervical squamous cell carcinoma. The toxic and side effects of chemotherapy in the experimental group were observed. Also, the operation method, operation time, blood loss, grade of wound healing, complications, and postoperative pathology were noted in the two groups. Primary foci and pelvic lymph node recurrence and distant metastasis were observed, and 3-year and 5-year survival rates were calculated. Results Only one patient in the experiment had grade III bone marrow suppression; no other grade III and IV chemotherapy toxic reactions were observed. The operation was successfully completed in all patients. The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, placement of the ureteral catheter, bladder injury, ureteric injury, postoperative urinary tub, pelvic drainage tube indwelling time, anal exhaust time, postoperative complications, and metastatic ratio of lymph nodes were not significantly different between the two groups (P > 0.05). The number of dissected lymph nodes, deep myometrial invasion, and vascular tumor emboli showed a significant difference in the experimental group compared with the control group (P < 0.05). The 3-year disease-free survival (82.9% vs 81.9%), 5-year disease-free survival (71.4% vs 60.6%), 3-year overall survival (91.4% vs 87.8%), and 5-year overall survival (82.9% vs 75.6%) were not statistically significantly different between the experimental group and the control group (P > 0.05). Conclusions Neoadjuvant chemotherapy in IB2/IIA2 stage cervical squamous cell carcinoma showed low toxic side effects. Radical surgery after chemotherapy is safe and feasible. It plays a coordinating role in reducing the tumor infiltration depth of the deep muscle layer and the incidence of vascular tumor emboli, reducing the use of postoperative adjuvant therapy, and improving the quality of life of patients, but does not improve the 3-year/5-year survival rate.

Abstract
Human papilloma virus (HPV) is the main causative agent in cervical cancers. High-risk HPV cancers, including cervical cancer, are driven by major HPV oncogene, E6 and E7, which promote uncontrolled cell growth and genomic instability. We have previously shown that the presence of HPV E7 sensitizes cells to inhibition of aurora kinases (AURKs), which regulates the control of cell entry into and through mitosis. Such treatment is highly effective at eliminating early tumors and reducing large, late tumors. In addition, the presence of HPV oncogenes also sensitizes cells to inhibition of phosphoinositide 3-kinases (PI3Ks), a family of enzymes involved in cellular functions such as cell growth and proliferation. Using MLN8237 (Alisertib), an oral, selective inhibitor of AURKs, we investigated whether Alisertib treatment can improve tumor response when combined with either radiotherapy (RT) treatment or with a PI3K inhibitor, BYL719 (Alpelisib). Indeed, both RT and Alpelisib significantly improved Alisertib-mediated tumor killing, and the promising achieved results warrant further development of these combinations, and potentially translating them to the clinics.

Abstract
Stem-like cells (CSCs) have a tumour-initiating capacity and play critical role in tumour metastasis, relapse and resistance to therapy. The ectoenzyme CD73, encoded by the NT5E gene, which catalyses the hydrolysis of AMP into adenosine, has been associated to an immunosuppressive tumour microenvironment, tumour cell adhesion and migration. Therefore, we investigated the expression and activity of CD73 in sphere-forming cells from cervical cancer in comparison to monolayer cells in vitro. In addition, in silico analysis was performed to determine the expression of CD73 and other members of purinergic signalling in CSC-like population derived from different tumour types in comparison to monolayer cells. CD73 protein expression levels and functionality in SiHa cells were analysed by flow cytometry and enzymatic assay, respectively. In silico investigation was performed through the analysis of seven datasets from different tumour types using GEO database. In vitro analysis showed a decreased CD73 protein expression and enzymatic activity in cervical spheres, when compared to monolayers. In addition, when sphere-derived cells are re-plated as monolayer culture, the CD73 expression and activity are restored. Supporting the in vitro results, in silico analysis showed that three-dimensional spheres derived from cervical, thyroid and breast cancer presented decreased expression of CD73, when compared to their adherent counterparts. The decreased expression of CD73 in sphere-derived cells or CSC-enriched population reinforce its important role in cell adhesion, tumour spreading ability and metastasis, suggesting CD73 as potential target to be further investigated in cervical cancer.
