Abstract
Sandblasting and acid etching are common procedures used to treat implant surfaces, enhancing osseointegration and improving clinical success rates. This clinical study aimed to evaluate the long-term outcomes of sandblasted and acid-etched implants. A total of 303 implants were placed in 114 partially and totally edentulous patients using a two-stage surgical technique and an early loading protocol (6-8 weeks). Clinical findings for implants and prosthetics were evaluated over a 12-year follow-up period. A total of 12 implants (3.9%) failed, with 3 failures occurring during the healing period before loading and 9 due to peri-implantitis. The cumulative survival rate for all implants was 96.1%. A total of 156 prostheses were placed on 300 implants, 87 single crowns, 45 partial fixed bridges, 9 full-arch fixed restorations, and 15 overdentures. The mean marginal bone loss was 1.18 mm. (SD. 0.64 mm.). Thirty-nine implants (13%) in twenty-four patients exhibited peri-implantitis. Technical complications, including prosthetic screw loosening or fracture, ceramic chipping, and acrylic fractures, were observed in 24 subjects (21.1%). Sandblasted and acid-etched surface implants placed in the maxilla and mandible reported favorable outcomes and stable tissue conditions with an early loading protocol.

Abstract
Dental implants are fixtures that replace a natural tooth that has been missing. The outcome depends on the safety and longevity of the bone-implant relationship. The process of direct and strong anchoring of an implant due to the surrounding bone tissue growing around it is called osseointegration. The establishment of an osseointegrated contact depends on a variety of systemic and local variables and diagnostic methods. Resonance frequency analysis is one of the methods used to analyze implant stability. The surface topography, mainly surface texture and roughness, also helps in promoting a favorable interaction between the implant and biological tissues. This case report aimed to indicate the importance of implant surfaces showing primary and secondary stability and implant stability quotient (ISQ) values that can be analyzed by resonance frequency analysis (RFA) using the Osstell implant device, which can be a useful tool used to determine the risk of failure.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Immediate implant placement has gained popularity due to its several advantages. However, immediate placement has its challenges, including concerns about primary stability and bone formation around the implant. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the clinical outcomes of tapered, sand-blasted, and acid-etched internal submerged dental implants in various regions of the jaw bones and to provide a positional rationale for immediate implant placement. METHODS Between 2009 and 2018, a single surgeon at Seoul National University Dental Hospital in Seoul, Korea, immediately inserted 49 dental implants with tapered bone-level design after extraction, in a total of 34 patients. The clinical outcomes were collected and evaluated, focusing on location of implant placement and marginal bone loss (MBL), with consideration of other parameters such as implant diameter and length. RESULTS Of 49 immediately installed Luna® (Shinhung Co., Seoul, Korea) dental implants, 23 were placed in the mandible, and 26 were set in the maxilla. The mean age of patients at the time of installation was 65.91 years, ranging from 40 to 86 years. The average follow-up period was 7.43 years, with a range of 5 to 14 years. After a 5-year retrospective evaluation of tapered, sand-blasted, and acid-etched internal submerged dental implants for immediate implant placement, the cumulative survival rate was 93.88%, with 100% survival rate in the mandible and premolar region of both the maxilla and mandible. CONCLUSIONS After a 5-year evaluation, tapered, sand-blasted, and acid-etched internal submerged dental implants demonstrated good efficacy for immediate placement in various locations within the dental arches, exhibiting effective clinical performance.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes of a single type of narrow-diameter implant (NDI) by investigating its survival rate and peri-implant marginal bone loss (MBL). In addition, variables possibly related to implant survival and MBL were investigated to identify potential risk factors. METHODS The study was conducted as a retrospective study involving 49 patients who had received 3.0-mm diameter TSIII implants (Osstem Implant Co.) at Seoul National University Dental Hospital. In total, 64 implants were included, and dental records and radiographic data were collected from 2017 to 2022. Kaplan-Meier survival curves and a Cox proportional hazard model were used to estimate the implant survival rate and to investigate the effects of age, sex, jaw, implant location, implant length, the stage of surgery, guided bone regeneration, type of implant placement, and the surgeon's proficiency (resident or professor) on implant survival. The MBL of the NDIs was measured, and the factors influencing MBL were evaluated. RESULTS The mean observation period was 30.5 months (interquartile range, 26.75-45 months), and 6 out of 64 implants failed. The survival rate of the NDIs was 90.6%, and the multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that age was associated with implant failure (hazard ratio, 1.17; 95% confidence interval, 1.04-1.31, P=0.01). The mean MBL was 0.44±0.75 mm, and no factors showed statistically significant associations with greater MBL. CONCLUSIONS NDIs can be considered a primary alternative when standard-diameter implants are unsuitable. However, further studies are required to confirm their long-term stability.

Abstract
In recent years, there is been a growing reliance on image analysis methods to bolster dentistry practices, such as image classification, segmentation and object detection. However, the availability of related benchmark datasets remains limited. Hence, we spent six years to prepare and test a bench Oral Implant Image Dataset (OII-DS) to support the work in this research domain. OII-DS is a benchmark oral image dataset consisting of 3834 oral CT imaging images and 15240 oral implant images. It serves the purpose of object detection and image classification. To demonstrate the validity of the OII-DS, for each function, the most representative algorithms and metrics are selected for testing and evaluation. For object detection, five object detection algorithms are adopted to test and four evaluation criteria are used to assess the detection of each of the five objects. Additionally, mean average precision serves as the evaluation metric for multi-objective detection. For image classification, 13 classifiers are used for testing and evaluating each of the five categories by meeting four evaluation criteria. Experimental results affirm the high quality of our data in OII-DS, rendering it suitable for evaluating object detection and image classification methods. Abstract
BACKGROUND To explore the influence of cross-sectional type and morphological parameters at the mandibular molar sites on lingual plate perforation (LPP) during the immediate implant placement (IIP). METHODS 181 implants were virtually placed in the mandibular molar sites on the cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Each cross-section of the implantation site was divided into the Undercut (U)/Parallel (P)/Convex (C) types. Morphologically relevant parameters were measured on the cross-sections, including width of the upper end (Wb), width of the lower end (Wc), vertical height (V), angle between the natural crown axis and the alveolar bone axis (∠β), LC depth (LCD), LC height, and angle between the horizontal line and the line connecting the most prominent point and the most concave point of lingual plate (∠α). Besides, the distance from the end of the virtual implant and the lingual bone plate of the cross-section (DIL) was calculated. Relationships between all the morphologically relevant parameters and the DIL were further analyzed. RESULTS A total of 77 (42.5%) cross-sections were classified as U-type, which was the most common one, accounting for 63% of the second molar regions. All LPP cases and most of the nearly LPP (87.9%) cases occurred at the U-type cross-sections, and the relationship between the DIL and the morphological parameters can be expressed by a multivariate linear equation. CONCLUSIONS The occurrence rate of U-type cross-sections in the second molar region was very high, and the risk of LPP should be considered during IIP. Except for the U-type, significant large LCD, small Wc, and large ∠β were the important relevant factors. CBCT and multivariate linear equations could help to assess the LPP risk and provide a reference for implant placement design pre-surgery.

Abstract
Objectives This study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of two types of sandblasted with large-grit and acid-etched (SLA) surface implants with different surface roughness. Patients and Methods This study was conducted based on a clinical record review of 55 patients (mean age, 53.00 years). A total of 80 SLA surface implants was placed. Among the 80 implants, 38 implants placed in 29 subjects had surface roughness (Ra) of 3.09 µm (test group, TG), while the other 42 implants placed in 31 subjects had a surface roughness (Ra) of 2.50 µm (control group, CG). A comparison was made of implant primary/secondary stability; success and survival rates; marginal bone loss; and soft tissue assessment including probing pocket depth (PPD), plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), and bleeding on probing (BOP) between the groups at 1 year after implant placement. Results Among the implants that were initially registered, 1 from the TG and 4 from the CG dropped out, leaving 37 implants in the TG and 38 implants in the CG to be traced and analyzed. Although 1 TG case showed unstable primary stability, all cases showed stable secondary stability. Success and survival rates at 1 year after implant placement were 100% in both groups. Marginal bone loss was 0.07 mm and 0.00 mm for the TG and CG, respectively, but the difference was not significant. Among the several parameters for evaluation of soft tissue, the TG showed lower PI at 1 year after implant placement (TG=0.00, CG=0.29; P=0.0004), while the remaining categories showed no significant difference between the groups. Conclusion This study shows that the two types of SLA implants with different surface roughness have no difference in efficacy or safety. Therefore, both of the implants can be used safely and with promising outcomes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study was performed to evaluate the long-term clinical efficacy of the CA implants (Osstem Implant, Busan, Korea), calcium-modified surfaced treated implants on acid-etched surfaces sandblasted with alumina. METHODS From January 2013 to December 2015, 258 implants of 120 patients placed between 2013 and 2015 were retrospectively studied. Using medical records and periapical radiographs, sex, age, location, fixture width and length of placed implants, presence or absence of bone graft, types of bone substitutes and membrane used for bone grafting, primary and secondary stability, initial and delayed complications, and marginal bone loss were investigated. The success rate and survival rate of the implants in each group were analyzed retrospectively based on the criteria suggested by Albrektsson et al. RESULTS: Between 2013 and 2015, with a follow-up longer than 5 years, 258 implants with an average diameter of 4.63 mm (3.5-5.5 mm) and an average length of 9.94 mm (7.0-13.0 mm) were placed in a total of 120 patients (61 males and 59 females) with a mean age of 63.7 years for an average of 62 months of observation period. The survival rate was 97.3%, the success rate was 94.2%, and the average final marginal bone loss was 0.074 mm. CONCLUSION The CA implants manufactured with the improved surface treatment method exhibited a survival rate of 97.3% and a success rate of 94.2% over an average observation period of 62 months. The implants were not affected by most factors and had very high survival and success rates over a long period of observation. In particular, the stability of the implant was excellent, with no cases of failed implants in delayed placement after bone grafting and a healing period.

Abstract
Background 4-hexylresorcinol (4HR) has been shown to have anti-oxidant activity similar to that of resveratrol. As resveratrol increases sirtuin (SIRT) activity, 4HR might behave similarly to resveratrol. Method In this study, the expression levels of SIRT1, SIRT3, and SIRT6 were evaluated after 4HR administration (1–100 μM). As NAD+ is a substrate for SIRTs, its levels with SIRT activity were also studied. Results In the results, SIRT3 (100 μM at 24 h) and SIRT6 (1–100 μM at 24 h and 10 μM at 8 h) were shown to have significantly higher expression levels compared to untreated control (p < 0.05). Pan-SIRT activity and the NAD+ level was significantly increased compared to that of the untreated control (p < 0.05; 10 and 100 μM at 24 h). Conclusion 4HR administration increased SIRT activity and the NAD+ level in Saos-2 cells.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Various surface treatment options have been adopted with the aim to improve osseointegration, reducing the overall treatment time. Implant stability of early loaded implants with different modified surfaces was compared in the present study. METHODS Patients were selected from the Department of Oro-Maxillofacial Surgery and Stomatology at Semmelweis University. Patients randomly received SA (alumina sandblasted and acid-etched), NH (bioabsorbable apatite nanocoating) or SLA (large-grit sandblasted and acid-etched) surface implants. Outcome measures were: implant success, implant stability, and periodontal parameters. The implant stability was measured at the time of implant placement (primary stability) and six weeks after (prothesis delivery, secondary stability). Osstell and Periotest were applied to take all the measurements. The primary and secondary stability were compared in the three study groups Finally the periimplant probing depth appearing after three months of loading was checked on 6 points around to the implant-supported prostheses. Shapiro-Wilk and Mann-Whitney tests were used for the comparison between the study groups. RESULTS A total of 75 implants with different length and diameter were inserted into various positions. One implant failed spontaneously at the fourth week after implant placement. The survival rate was 98,7%. Comparing the primary and secondary stability values, the data were significantly improved in every groups. The difference was the highest in the NH group, however, this difference was not significant compared to the two other groups. Good periodontal parameters were experienced in all the tested implants, independently by the groups. CONCLUSIONS With the limitation of the present study, all the implants showed improved stability six weeks after implant placement. A trend of higher result was found for the NH group. Further studies with longer follow-up are needed to confirm this preliminary results. TRIAL REGISTRATION Current Controlled Trials ISRCTN13181677; the date of registration: 04/03/2021. Abstract
BACKGROUND The risk factors of early implant failure were controversial among previous studies, especially for implants in different sites. PURPOSE To analyze the rate and risk factors of early implant failure occurring before the placement of final prosthesis. MATERIALS AND METHODS A retrospective study was conducted based on electrical medical records of patients who received dental implant placement from 2015 to 2019. Generalized estimation equation analyses were used to explore potential risk factors influencing early implant failure. RESULTS Overall, 6113 implants in 3785 patients were included. The rate of early implant failure was 1.6% at patient level and 1.2% at implant level. The early implant failure was significantly associated with implants in the posterior maxilla, with specific surface modifications and in previously augmented sites (p < 0.05). Risk factors for maxillary implants included surface modification and bone augmentation procedures (p < 0.01), whereas risk factors for mandibular implants included gender and bone augmentation procedures (p < 0.05). For implants placed in previously augmented sites, implants placed in the anterior mandible had a higher risk of early failure (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The risk factors for early implant failures varied among different sites; hence, they should be comprehensively considered in presurgical treatment plan.

Abstract
Objectives In this research it was aimed to that evaluation of the effects of systemic metformin administration on the periimplant bone tissue response of TiAl6Va4 implants in experimental rat model. Materials and method Firstly TiAl6Va4 implants were inserted surgically in the metaphyseal part of the tibial bone and after, the rats were randomly separated into two groups: Controls (CNT) (n = 10) and Metformin group (M) (n = 10). No additional treatment was applied to the controls during the 4-week experimental period. Rats received 40 mg/kg metformin in every day during the four week experimental period in M group. At the end of the 28-day follow-up period, the TiAl6Va4 implants with surrounding bone were used for the histopathologic analysis. To analysis of the datas between M and CNT Student-T Test was used. Result Periimplant bone tissue filling ratios (%) were detected higher in M group compared with the CNT (P < 0.05). Conclusion Systemic administration of metformin may increases titanium implant osseointegration in non-diabetic rats.
