Abstract
The management of patients harboring central nervous system (CNS) hemangiopericytomas (HPCs) is a partially answered challenge. These are rare locally aggressive lesions, with potential for local recurrence, distal neural metastasis (DNM), and extraneural metastasis (ENM). Resection, when feasible, remains the initial treatment option, providing histological diagnosis and immediate relief of tumor-related mass effect. Patients receiving surgery alone or surgery and external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) show improved overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival as compared to those undergoing a biopsy alone (p = 0.01 and p = 0.02, respectively). Yet, in many instances, patient and tumor-related parameters preclude complete resection. EBRT or stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) shares a significant role in achieving local tumor control, not shown to impact OS in HPC patients. The benefits of SRS/EBRT are clearly limited to improved local tumor volume control and neurologic function, not affecting DNM or ENM development. SRS provides acceptable rates of local tumor volume control coupled with treatment safety and a patient-friendly apparatus and procedure. Single-session SRS is most effective for lesions measuring <2 cm in their largest diameter (10 cm3 volume), with prescription doses of at >15 Gy. Systemic HPC disease is managed with various chemotherapeutic, immunotherapeutic, and anti-angiographic agents, with limited success. We present a short discussion on CNS HPCs, focusing our discussion on available evidence regarding the role of microsurgical resection, EBRT, SRS, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy for upfront, part of adoptive hybrid surgery approach or for recurrent HPCs.

Abstract
Hemangiopericytoma (HPC) is a rare tumor originating from pericapillary cells. Rarely found in the central nervous system, it is extremely rare in the spinal canal. Because of the low incidence of this tumor, its radiographic features and clinical manifestations have not been extensively studied and reported, therefore, it is often misdiagnosed as a schwannoma or spinal meningioma. We describe an unexpected HPC in a 35-year-old woman who was admitted to the Peking Union Medical College Hospital with a severe backache, sensory abnormalities, and muscle weakness. Magnetic resonance imaging showed an enhancing lesion at T6-7 with severe compression of the spinal cord. Gross total resection was achieved, and subsequently, a marked neurologic improvement was observed. The diagnosis of primary extradural HPC in our patient was confirmed based on postoperative histopathology and immunohistochemistry. Neither recurrence nor metastasis of the tumor was found during the 14-month follow-up, which did not include radiotherapy. To describe the demography, radiologic features, treatment, and prognosis of spinal HPC, a comprehensive literature review was performed and 105 cases of primary spinal HPC from 1958 to 2017 were collected from 39 articles. Although rare, HPC should be considered in the differential diagnosis of intraspinal lesions. Immunohistologic examination is of decisive importance in making the diagnosis. Adequate surgical resection, when feasible, is the first choice of treatment for all cases of HPC; however, the outcomes of radiotherapy and chemotherapy have yet to be determined. Individualized treatment combined with long-term follow-up for each patient is recommended.

Abstract
We report a case of hemangiopericytoma of the soft palate of 60-year-old patient, who noticed a mass of the soft palate and experienced difficulty in speaking. We found a pediculate, hard, elastic mass measuring 38 mm (cross-sectional diameter). Computed tomography (CT) scans and dynamic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) confirmed irregularly shaped mass and revealed a heterogeneous internal composition, consistent with vascular tumors. We excised the tumor under general anesthesia. Histopathological diagnosis was based on positive immunoreactivity of CD99 and vimentin and weak, positive staining of CD34. Three and half years following tumor excision, there is no recurrence or metastasis.

Abstract
Hemangiopericytoma is an unusual tumor that arises from vascular smooth muscle cells. It is mainly experienced in 4th to 5th decades of life and soft-tissue masses are frequently located in lower extremity, pelvis, and retroperitoneum. A 29-year-old man presented with a mass lesion in the right nasal cavity associated with shortness of breath as a result of nasal obstruction. An incisional biopsy was reported as sinonasal type hemangiopericytoma. The initial staging F-18 flourodeoxyglucose PET/CT successfully demonstrated severe hypermetabolism in the primary tumor location and mild-to-moderate hypermetabolism in the right upper jugular lymph node.

Abstract
Malignant solitary fibrous tumor (MSFT) is one of the angiosarcomas arising from or resembling the components of blood vessels. Because of its rarity, the diagnosis is difficult. Between 1998 and 2008, 24 patients were diagnosed as having hemangiopericytomas (16) and solitary fibrous tumors (8). Nine of them were confirmed to be MSFT and treated at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. All patients were treated with surgery as the primary modality. Eight patients received postoperative adjuvant radiation therapy. The average follow-up duration was 4.6 years (range: 6 months-10 years). Of the nine patients reviewed in this study, three died of locoregional or distant metastasis, six survived 6 months-6 years (four survived over 4 years). The size of primary tumor, the number of mitoses per 10 high powered fields and cervical lymph node metastasis seemed to be correlated with poor prognosis in MSFT patients, although the small number of patients did not permit the performance of statistical analysis.

Abstract
Although extremely rare, the primitive lung hemangiopericytoma in adults is similar to hemangiopericytomas with other soft tissue localizations. Although generally benign and curable after radical surgery, it might also have a malignant clinical course with dissemination in both lungs, infiltration of vital organs (heart, pulmonary artery), extension to the adjacent tissues, and even pulmonary metastases. The treatment of choice is the complete tumor resection with negative surgical margins after excision. Certain histologic features might indicate a malignant potential. The clinical outcome of patients is variable: some are cured after radical surgery and others might present relapse and recurrences that necessitate a second intervention, radiation therapy, and/or chemotherapy. Over the years, the conventionally-defined hemangiopericytoma concept has evolved because of the nonspecific histologic growth pattern (characteristic monotonous appearance, moderate or high cellularity, and a well-developed branching vascular pattern) shared by numerous, unrelated benign or malignant lesions. Hemangiopericytoma is no longer considered a specific entity but rather as a characteristic growth pattern; in the heterogeneous group of hemangiopericytoma-like neoplasms, many lesion categories have been individualized and defined. We report an uncommon case of primitive lung tumor exhibiting hemangiopericytoma-like features, with an aggressive, fatal clinical course. Because of the major histologic overlap between solitary fibrous tumor and hemangiopericytoma and lack of clear classification criteria, we encountered difficulty in including this case in a known clinical entity; primitive solitary fibrous tumor of the lung, which mimics lung hemangiopericytoma, seemed to be the most plausible diagnosis. We discuss the case particularities and the radiologic and pathologic correlations.

Abstract
CASE REPORT We report the case of a 16-year-old girl who developed hemangiopericytoma of the thoracic spine; the main clinical symptoms were of spastic paraparesis with sensory involvement and uro-fecal incontinence. She was initially put on antitubercular treatment keeping in mind the endemicity of tuberculosis in the region. When she deteriorated on conservative management, she was operated upon, and the histopathological report was suggestive of hemangiopericytoma. MATERIALS AND METHODS Additional immunocytochemistry was performed in the paraffin-embedded tumor sections. CONCLUSIONS An extremely rare case of primary epidural malignant hemangiopericytoma of the thoracic spinal column is described. It is a rare tumor, which is locally aggressive, and a potentially malignant tumor. The tumor is more commonly found in the cranium, and spinal involvement is rare, and only few case reports could be retrieved from the literature. We discuss the clinical profile, management, and outcome of spinal hemangiopericytomas along with pertinent review of the literature.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hemangiopericytoma was first mentioned in 1942. It is a very uncommon potentially malignant vascular tumour which can occur at every site of the body. According to the WHO, most of the tumours formerly diagnosed as hemangiopericytomas are considered to be extrapleural solitary fibrous tumours. The diagnosis of "hemangiopericytoma" is now only determined if a constant histological picture of hemangiopericytoma is present. The tumour can lead to lymphogenous or hematogenous metastasis. The major location of occurrence is the cutis and subcutis. It originates from the pericytes of the vascular wall. This is reflected in its vascular character and therefore the hemangiopericytoma might clinically be mistaken for a hemangioma. CASE REPORTS Patient 1: 60 years, female; diagnosis: malignant suboccipital hemangiopericytoma; size: 4.9 x 4.5 x 4.2 cm; pT1bNXMX L0 V0 Pn0; stage IA; grading G1; R0.Patient 2: 38 years, male; diagnosis: benign hemangiopericytoma infraorbital left; size 1.5 x 1.5 x 1.5 cm. DISCUSSION Most often the hemangiopericytoma becomes clinically conspicuous as a slowly growing, painless swelling. The consistency ranges from soft to dense, and the color is greyish-blue. The slow and painless growth carries the danger of a clinically wrong diagnosis and thus delayed therapy. The histological diagnosis of hemangiopericytoma is determined by biopsy. Besides histology, MRI and angiography are methods that can be employed to diagnose hemangiopericytoma. The therapy of choice is the complete tumour-resection with a safety margin of 1 cm. In the case of an aggressive growth pattern, adjuvant postoperative radiotherapy is recommended. Until now there has been no documented specific therapy concept for managing incomplete resection and the occurrence of metastasis. There are reports about chemo- and radiotherapy either on their own or combined which evidence differing degrees of success. Lifelong monitoring is necessary because recrudescences and metastases can occur even decades later.

Abstract
CONTEXT Hemangiopericytoma is an uncommon mesenchymal neoplasm that rarely affects the spinal canal. Primary malignant hemangiopericytoma of the spinal column is extremely rare. CASE REPORT We report on a case of primary epidural malignant hemangiopericytoma of the thoracic spinal column that invaded vertebral bone and caused spinal cord compression in a 21-year-old man. The patient presented with progressive back pain over a four-month period that progressed to paraparesis, bilateral leg paresthesia and urinary incontinence. The surgical intervention involved laminectomy and subtotal resection of the tumor, with posterior vertebral fixation. Postoperative involved-field radiotherapy was administered. A marked neurological improvement was subsequently observed. We describe the clinical, radiological, and histological features of this tumor and review the literature.
