Enhanced training programs and a collaborative approach are essential for the successful conduct of clinical trials and the advancement of medical research.

Les infirmières de recherche clinique font partie de l’équipe de recherche en oncologie et sont un élément fondamental de réussite des essais. Leurs relations directes avec les participants d’une étude de recherche sont essentielles pour les activités des essais cliniques en première ligne. De façon générale, l’afflux et la complexité des essais cliniques en oncologie ont transformé la pratique infirmière en oncologie et ont mené à la création de la sous-spécialité unique qu’est l’infirmière de recherche clinique en oncologie. La présente revue exploratoire s’est penchée sur le rôle et la pratique futurs de l’infirmière de recherche clinique.

Oncology clinical trials nursing: A scoping review

In the 21st century, cancer is a disease that captures much of our attention for its complexity, and its physical, emotional, and financial impacts on one's life. Research attention and investment in cancer management has made it the most studied disease in clinical trials globally. Clinical trials nurses are part of the oncology research team and a fundamental factor in trial success. Their direct relationship with research subjects is the key connection in the operation of clinical trials at the front line. The influx and complexity of oncology clinical trials has transformed both oncology nursing practice in general and led to the development of the unique subspecialty of the oncology clinical trials nurse. This scoping review investigated the role and future practice of the clinical trials nurse.

Nurse-Led Programs to Facilitate Enrollment to Children's Oncology Group Cancer Control Trials

The progress made over the past 50 years in disease-directed clinical trials has significantly increased cure rates for children and adolescents with cancer. The Children's Oncology Group (COG) is now conducting more studies that emphasize improving quality of life for young people with cancer. These types of clinical trials are classified as cancer control (CCL) studies by the National Cancer Institute and require different resources and approaches to facilitate adequate accrual and implementation at COG institutions. Several COG institutions that had previously experienced problems with low accruals to CCL trials have successfully implemented local nursing leadership for these types of studies. Successful models of nurses as institutional leaders and "champions" of CCL trials are described.

Clinical trial nurse's role in safety reporting

The clinical trial nurse (CTN) can have a substantial amount of responsibility for clinical trials and can perform many roles in the management of clinical trials. Although new opportunities for the registered nurse in clinical trials have emerged in recent years, there remains to be a dearth of literature surrounding the important roles of the CTN in clinical trials. The CTN is a specialty-nursing role that is unfamiliar to many, including some nurses. Therefore, it is important to address this gap in the literature and enlighten the nursing profession and others about the roles of the nurse in clinical trials. This article aims to explore and provide an overview of the CTN's role in safety reporting. Safety reporting is a significant component of clinical trials by protecting the rights, safety, and welfare of subjects. The CTN integrates and utilizes his or her knowledge, experience, skills, and sound ethical principles when performing the duties of this role. This allows the CTN to be a vital member in the safety-reporting process and in the protection of subjects.

The sensory and coping intervention for women newly diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer

Preparatory information at the time of metastatic breast cancer diagnosis can be used to enhance patients' coping ability. Women with metastatic breast cancer evaluated a multimedia educational intervention designed to provide sensory and coping information regarding illness. Twenty women with metastatic breast cancer evaluated the materials. The intervention was evaluated very favorably and women identified the materials as needed information. However, they expressed dislike of content outlining possible concerns suggesting future iterations include only positive content. Findings confirm the acceptability and usability of these materials for further testing and ultimately for integration into cancer care practice.
