Abstract
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study is to obtain the iron parameters level of blood donors and the population who need to pay attention to iron parameters level in this area. METHODS A total of 993 plateletpheresis donors were included in this study, including 798 males and 195 females. The results of erythrocyte and iron parameters of blood donors were compared and analyzed in different groups according to the gender, age and number of blood donations. RESULT The proportion of men and women with low serum ferritin (SF) levels was 10.8 % and 27.7 %, respectively. The mean levels of serum iron (SI), SF, transferrin saturation (Tfs), hemoglobin (Hb) and hematocrit (HCT) of male blood donors decreased with the increase of age groups, but there was no significant statistical difference between the results of female blood donors. The level of SI, SF, Tfs, Hb and HCT of male donors decreased with the increase of blood donations in the past year, while TRF and TIBC increased. The level of Hb, HCT and SF of female donors showed no significant downward trend, while the levels of TRF increased with increasing donations in the past year, excluding first-time donors. The SI of female donors trended down, and TIBC trended up with increasing donations. CONCLUSION Blood collection institutions need to focus on iron parameters levels in older and frequent male donors, and young fertile female donors.

Abstract
In epidemiological studies, lowered serum testosterone concentrations are common in men with obesity, prediabetes, and established type 2 diabetes (T2D). In men with prediabetes, lowered serum testosterone also predicts a future risk of T2D in men. Administration of testosterone consistently reduces fat mass and increases skeletal muscle mass-body compositional changes expected to be metabolically favorable. In men with established T2D, the effects of testosterone treatment on glycemic measures are inconsistent. Irrespective of baseline serum testosterone concentration in men with prediabetes or newly diagnosed early-onset T2D, testosterone treatment prescribed in conjunction with a lifestyle program has been reported to reduce the risk of T2D by 40% after 2 years, suggesting that either a lifestyle program is required to facilitate the glycemic benefit of testosterone treatment and/or that testosterone treatment has more favorable effects on glycemia in men early in the evolution or onset of the disease. The durability of the benefit and longer-term safety of testosterone treatment have not been established. Therefore, more studies are required before testosterone treatment can be recommended for the prevention and/or treatment of men with or at elevated risk of T2D who do not have hypogonadism due to an established disease of the hypothalamic-pituitary-testicular axis.

Abstract
Testosterone therapy for men with hypogonadism due to identifiable hypothalamic-pituitary-testicular (HPT) pathology is uncontroversial. However, the risks and benefits of testosterone for men with clinical features of hypogonadism in the absence of identifiable HPT axis pathology have been uncertain. Recent landmark placebo-controlled trials assessed the benefits and risks of testosterone therapy (≤3 years) for middle-aged and older men with symptoms and possible signs of hypogonadism or end-organ androgen deficiency, low or low-normal serum testosterone concentrations, but no HPT pathology: Testosterone therapy (1) had modest-but clinically significant-benefits on average self-reported energy and mood, sexual function, and satisfaction; (2) in conjunction with a lifestyle programme, reversed or reduced incident type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) in men at high risk of or newly diagnosed with T2D; (3) modestly improved objectively assessed muscle strength and timed walking distance; (4) increased bone density and strength, but did not reduce falls or typical osteoporotic fractures and surprisingly increased the risk of fractures typically attributable to trauma; and (5) did not significantly increase the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, or prostate cancer. These landmark trials help to inform clinical decision-making about testosterone therapy for men.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Whether testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) conveys additional cardiometabolic benefit to an intensive lifestyle therapy (LT) in older men with obesity and hypogonadism remains unclear. OBJECTIVE To determine whether TRT augments the effect of LT on metabolic outcomes in older men with obesity and hypogonadism. DESIGN Secondary analysis of a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. SETTING Veterans Affairs Medical Center. PARTICIPANTS 83 older (age ≥ 65 years) men with obesity (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2) and persistently low AM testosterone (< 10.4 nmol/L) associated with frailty. INTERVENTIONS LT (weight management and exercise training) plus either testosterone (LT+TRT) or placebo (LT+Pbo) for six months. OUTCOME MEASURES Primary outcome was change in glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c). Secondary outcomes included changes in other glucometabolic and lipid profile components, liver enzymes, inflammatory markers, adipokines; subcutaneous, visceral, intramuscular, and hepatic fat; blood pressure, and metabolic syndrome score. RESULTS HbA1c decreased similarly in LT+TRT and LT+Pbo groups (-0.5% vs. -0.6%, respectively; p= 0.35). While TRT showed no synergistic effect with LT on ameliorating secondary outcomes, it eliminated the augmentative effect of LT on high-density lipoprotein cholesterol concentration (5.4 ± 1.0 mg/dL in LT+Pbo group vs. 0.2 ± 1.1 mg/dL in LT+TRT group, p= 0.01) and adiponectin levels (-408 ± 489 ng/mL in TRT+LT group vs 1832 ± 468 ng/mL in LT+Pbo group, p= 0.02). CONCLUSION In older men with obesity and hypogonadism, adding TRT for six months to LT does not result in further improved cardiometabolic profiles, and could potentially blunt some of the metabolic benefits induced by LT.
