Mixed-Valent Trinuclear CoIII-CoII-CoIII Complex with 1,3-Bis(5-chlorosalicylideneamino)-2-propanol. Molecules 2022; 27:molecules27134211. [PMID: 35807456 PMCID: PMC9268718 DOI: 10.3390/molecules27134211] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Download PDF] [Figures] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 05/31/2022] [Revised: 06/27/2022] [Accepted: 06/27/2022] [Indexed: 01/27/2023] Open
Abstract
A mixed-valent trinuclear complex with 1,3-bis(5-chlorosalicylideneamino)-2-propanol (H3clsalpr) was synthesized, and the crystal structure was determined by the single-crystal X-ray diffraction method at 90 K. The molecule is a trinuclear CoIII-CoII-CoIII complex with octahedral geometries, having a tetradentate chelate of the Schiff-base ligand, bridging acetate, monodentate acetate coordination to each terminal Co3+ ion and four bridging phenoxido-oxygen of two Schiff-base ligands, and two bridging acetate-oxygen atoms for the central Co2+ ion. The electronic spectral feature is consistent with the mixed valent CoIII-CoII-CoIII. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility data could be analyzed by consideration of the axial distortion of the central Co2+ ion with the parameters Δ = –254 cm−1, λ = –58 cm−1, κ = 0.93, tip = 0.00436 cm3 mol−1, θ = –0.469 K, gz = 6.90, and gx = 2.64, in accordance with a large anisotropy. The cyclic voltammogram showed an irreversible reduction wave at approximately −1.2 V·vs. Fc/Fc+, assignable to the reduction of the terminal Co3+ ions.

Abstract
Copper(II) complexes with 2,3,4-trimethoxybenzoic acid (H234-tmbz) and 2,4,6-trimethoxybenzoic acid (H246-tmbz), [Cu2(234-tmbz)4(H2O)2] (6) and [Cu(246-tmbz)2(µ-H2O)2(H2O)2]n (7), were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, infrared and UV-vis spectra and temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibilities (1.9–300 K). The X-ray crystal structures revealed that the former 6 is a dinuclear cluster having syn-syn-bridged Cu2(µ-234-tmbz)4 core with Cu···Cu separation of 2.6009(7) Å, while the latter 7 is a µ-aqua-bridged chain molecule consisting of Cu(246-tmb)2(µ-H2O)2(H2O)2 units with Cu···Cu separation of 4.1420(5) Å. Temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibilities showed that an antiferromagnetic interaction with 2J = −272 cm−1 for 6 and a weak antiferromagnetic interaction with J = −0.21 cm−1 for 7, between the two copper(II) ions. The adsorption isotherm of 6 showed Types I behavior having a 125.4 m2g−1 of specific surface area.

Synthesis, Crystal Structures and Magnetic Properties of Mixed-Valent Tetranuclear Complexes with Y-Shaped MnII2MnIII2 Core. MAGNETOCHEMISTRY 2019. Abstract
Tetranuclear MnII2MnIII2 complexes with 1,3-bis(5-bromo-3-metoxysalicylidenaminomethyl)-2-propanol (H3bmsap) and 1,3-bis(5-chloro-3-methoxysalicylidenaminomethyl)-2-propanol (H3cmsap), [Mn4(bmsap)2(CH3CO2)3(CH3O)] (3) and [Mn4(cmsap)2(CH3CO2)3(CH3O)] (4), were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, infrared and diffused reflectance spectra and variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements in the 2–300 K range. The crystal structures of 3 and 4 revealed a Y-shaped tetranuclear manganese cluster formed by the two Schiff-base ligands, three kinds of acetato ligands (bidentate, syn–anti-bridging, and syn–syn-bridging), and µ-methoxido ligand. The magnetic data showed the magnetic interactions among the four manganese atoms are antiferromagnetic as a whole within the tetranuclear cluster.
