Preparation and characterization of Pd supported on 5-carboxyoxindole functionalized cell@Fe3O4 nanoparticles as a novel magnetic catalyst for the Heck reaction

Pd supported on 5-carboxyoxindole functionalized cell@Fe₃O₄ nanoparticles (Pd@CAI@cell@Fe₃O₄), a new magnetic nanocatalyst, was prepared and characterized using inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy techniques. The synthesized nanocatalyst (Pd@CAI@cell@Fe₃O₄) was employed for Heck-type arylation of different substituted maleimides with iodoarenes in good to excellent yields. This green catalyst was easily recovered and reused several times with no substantial loss of activity, providing a clean and efficient synthetic procedure with excellent yield and reduced time.

Nickel Catalyzed Olefin Oligomerization and Dimerization

Brought to life more than half a century ago and successfully applied for high-value petrochemical intermediates production, nickel-catalyzed olefin oligomerization is still a very dynamic topic, with many fundamental questions to address and industrial challenges to overcome. The unique and versatile reactivity of nickel enables the oligomerization of ethylene, propylene, and butenes into a wide range of oligomers that are highly sought-after in numerous fields to be controlled. Interestingly, both homogeneous and heterogeneous nickel catalysts have been scrutinized and employed to do this. This rare specificity encouraged us to interlink them in this review so as to open up opportunities for further catalyst development and innovation. An in-depth understanding of the reaction mechanisms in play is essential to being able to fine-tune the selectivity and achieve efficiency in the rational design of novel catalytic systems. This review thus provides a complete overview of the subject, compiling the main fundamental/industrial milestones and remaining challenges facing homogeneous/heterogeneous approaches as well as emerging catalytic concepts, with a focus on the last 10 years.

Recent advances in noble metal nanocatalysts for Suzuki and Heck cross-coupling reactions

Since metal nanoparticles have a high surface-to-volume ratio and very active surface atoms, they are very attractive catalysts for a wide variety of organic and inorganic reactions, compared to bulk catalysts. Metal nanoparticles suspended in colloidal solutions and those adsorbed onto bulk supports have been used as catalysts for a wide variety of carbon-carbon bond formation reactions such as the Suzuki and Heck cross-coupling reactions. This review article highlights some of the latest advances in the application of noble metal nanoparticles as catalysts for these two industrially important classes of cross-coupling reactions. We will discuss several important advances in using metal nanocatalysts in Suzuki and Heck cross-coupling reactions such as investigations on the nanoparticle shape dependence on the catalytic activity, novel types of supported metal nanoparticles as nanocatalysts, and the use of bi-metallic, tri-metallic and multi-metallic nanoparticles as catalysts for the Suzuki and Heck cross-coupling reactions.
