Abstract
A simple general method for the synthesis of nitriles using the inexpensive and easy to handle iodine (I2) is described herein. The reaction of thioamides with I2 in the presence of triethylamine at room temperature under aerobic conditions afforded various nitriles bearing aryl, vinyl, and alkyl groups in good-to-excellent yields. This method was also effective for conversion from thioureas to cyanamides.

Abstract
One-pot synthesis of 2-(arylthio)arylcyanamides is accomplished using cheap and air-stable CuSO(4) x 5 H(2)O as a catalyst by domino intra- and intermolecular C-S cross-coupling reactions of 2-(iodoaryl)thioureas with aryl iodides under ligand-free conditions.

Abstract
A variety of aldehydes reacted with iodine in ammonia water at room temperature to give the nitrile intermediates, which were trapped by addition of hydrogen peroxide, sodium azide, or dicyandiamide to produce their corresponding amides, tetrazoles, and 1,3,5-triazines in modest to high yields. The one-pot tandem reactions were conducted in water media, and the products were obtained simply by extraction or filtration.
