Abstract
The chemo/regioselective H-D exchange of amino acids and synthetic building blocks by an environmentally benign Pd/C-Al-D2O catalytic system is described. Due to the importance of isotope labeled compounds in medicinal chemistry and structural biology, notably their use as improved drug candidates and biological probes, the efficient and selective deuteration methods are of great interest. The approach is based on selective H-D exchange reactions where the deuterium source is simple D2O. D2 gas is generated in situ from the reaction of aluminum and D2O, while the commercially available palladium catalyst assists the H-D exchange reaction. The high selectivity and efficiency, as well as the simplicity and safe nature of the procedure make this method an environmentally benign alternative to current alternatives.

Abstract
Herein reported is a nickel-catalyzed isomerization/allylic cyanation of alkenyl alcohols, which complements current methods for the allylic substitution reactions. The specific diphosphite ligand and methanol as the solvent are crucial for the success for this transformation. A gram-scale regioconvergent experiment and formal synthesis of quebrachamine demonstrate the high potential of this methodology.

Abstract
The application of internal standards in quantitative and qualitative bioanalysis is a commonly used procedure. They are usually isotopically labeled analogs of the analyte, used in quantitative LC-MS analysis. Usually, 2H, 13C, 15N and 18O isotopes are used. The synthesis of deuterated isotopologues is relatively inexpensive, however, due to the isotopic effect of deuterium and the lack of isotopologue co-elution, usually they are not considered as good internal standards for LC-MS quantification. On the other hand, the preparation of 13C, 15N and 18O containing standards of drugs and their metabolites requires a complicated multistep de novo synthesis, starting from the isotopically labeled substrates, which are usually expensive. Therefore, there is a strong need for the development of low-cost methods for isotope-labeled standard preparations for quantitative analysis by LC-MS. The presented review concentrates on the preparation of deuterium-labeled standards by hydrogen−deuterium exchange reactions at the carbon centers. Recent advances in the development of the methods of isotopologues preparation and their application in quantitative analysis by LC-MS are evaluated.

Abstract
The molding of molecules through remote functionalisation has increasingly become popular as it provides original and flexible synthetic alternatives to classical retrosynthetic analysis. In this Perspective article, we summarise more than a decade of studies in the specific field of remote activation of inert C-C and C-O bonds using the unique abilities of organozirconocene species mainly from our own research group. By demonstrating that these reactions represent novel and powerful entries towards acyclic stereodefined reactive organometallic species, we aim to show the vast opportunities this concept-driven methodology discovery offers.

Abstract
Deuterium (D) labeled compounds are utilized in various scientific fields such as mechanistic elucidation of reactions, preparation of new functional materials, tracers for microanalysis, deuterium labeled heavy drugs and so on. Although the H-D exchange reaction is a straightforward method to produce deuterated organic compounds, many precedent methods require expensive deuterium gas and/or harsh reaction conditions. A part of our leading research agendas is intended to the development of novel and functional heterogeneous platinum-group catalysts and the reclamation of unknown functionalities of existing heterogeneous platinum-group catalysts. During the course of the study, benzylic positions of substrates were site-selectively deuterated under mild and palladium-on-carbon (Pd/C)-catalyzed hydrogenation conditions in heavy water (D2O). Heat conditions promoted the H-D exchange reactivity and facilitated the H-D exchange reaction at not only the benzylic sites but also inactive C-H bonds and heterocyclic nuclei. It is noteworthy that platinum-on-carbon (Pt/C) indicated a quite high affinity toward aromatic nuclei, and the H-D exchange reaction was strongly enhanced by the use of Pt/C as a catalyst under milder conditions. The mixed use of Pd/C and Pt/C was found to be more efficient in the H-D exchange reaction compared to the independent use of Pd/C or Pt/C. Furthermore, simple alkanes could also be efficiently deuterated under rhodium-on-carbon (Rh/C)-catalyzed conditions. The use of ruthenium-on-carbon (Ru/C) enabled the regiospecific and efficient deuterium incorporation at α-positions of alcohols and results were applied as a regio- and stereoselective multi-deuteration method of sugar derivatives.

Abstract
A novel and convenient protocol for the catalytic hydrogen-deuterium exchange of biologically active tertiary amines utilizing the borrowing hydrogen methodology has been developed. In the presence of the readily available Shvo catalyst, excellent chemoselectivity toward α- and β-protons with respect to the nitrogen atom as well as high degree of deuterium incorporation and functional group tolerance is achieved. This allowed for the deuteration of complex pharmaceutically interesting substrates, including examples for actual marketed drug compounds. Notably, this method constitutes a powerful tool for the generation of valuable internal standard materials for LC-MS/MS analyses highly demanded for various life-science applications.

Abstract
Since the first reports on the use of microwave irradiation to accelerate organic chemical transformations, a plethora of papers has been published in this field. In most examples, microwave heating has been shown to dramatically reduce reaction times, increase product yields, and enhance product purity by reducing unwanted side reactions compared with conventional heating methods. The present contribution aims at illustrating the advantages of this technology in homogeneous catalysis by ruthenium complexes and, when data are available, at comparing microwave-heated and conventionally heated experiments. Selected examples refer to olefin metathesis, isomerization reactions, 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions, atom transfer radical reactions, transfer hydrogenation reactions, and H/D exchange reactions.

Abstract
The Pd/C-catalyzed efficient and regioselective hydrogen-deuterium (H-D) exchange reaction on the benzylic site proceeded in D2O in the presence of a small amount of H2 gas. The use of the Pd/C-ethylenediamine complex [Pd/C(en)] as a catalyst instead of Pd/C led to the efficient deuterium incorporation into the benzylic site of O-benzyl protective groups without hydrogenolysis. These H-D exchange reactions provide a post synthetic and D(2)-gas-free deuterium-labeling method on a wide variety of benzylic sites using D2O as the deuterium source and heterogeneous Pd/C or Pd/C(en) as a reusable heterogeneous palladium catalyst under mild and neutral conditions.

Abstract
The increasing demand for stable isotopically labeled compounds has led to an increased interest in H/D-exchange reactions at carbon centers. Today deuterium-labeled compounds are used as internal standards in mass spectrometry or to help elucidate mechanistic theories. Access to these deuterated compounds takes place significantly more efficiently and more cost effectively by exchange of hydrogen by deuterium in the target molecule than by classical synthesis. This Review will concentrate on the preparative application of the H/D-exchange reaction in the preparation of deuterium-labeled compounds. Advances over the last ten years are brought together and critically evaluated.

Abstract
A method for efficient and extensive H/D exchange of substituted benzene derivatives which is catalyzed by heterogeneous Pd/C in D(2)O as a deuterium source under hydrogen atmosphere is described. Multi-deuterium incorporation into unactivated linear or branched alkyl chains that bear a carboxyl, hydroxyl, ether, ester, or amide moiety and are connected with a benzene ring was achieved by using the Pd/C-H(2)-D(2)O system. The present method does not require expensive deuterium gas or any special equipment.
