Indonesian medicinal plants. VII. Seven new clerodane-type diterpenoids, peronemins A2, A3, B1, B2, B3, C1, and D1, from the leaves of Peronema canescens (Verbenaceae)

Reduction of 4-nitrophenol Mediated by Silver Nanoparticles Synthesized using Aqueous Leaf Extract of Peronema canescens

In this study, we developed an alternative of 4-nitrophenol reduction mediated by silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) which was synthesized using aqueous extract of the Peronema canescens leaf through an eco-friendly approach. The reducing 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol mediated by AgNPS in the presence of sodium borohydride as a hydrogen source proceeded rapidly at room temperature without any additional treatments. The AgNPS synthesis was simple and was carried out under mild conditions. Ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy was performed to examine the properties of the obtained AgNPs, which displayed an absorption peak at 431 nm. A transmission electron microscopy analysis revealed that the AgNPs were spherical in shape and had an average particle size of 19 nm as determined by particle size analysis. Stereoselective hydroacyloxylation of iodoalkynes with β-aryl cinnamic acids and subsequent Mizoroki–Heck reaction provides an efficient route to substituted 2(3H)-furanones.

Neo-Clerodane Diterpenoids from Verbenaceae: Structural Elucidation and Biological Activity

This review focuses on the occurrence and structural elucidation of neo-clerodane type diterpenes from Verbenaceae (no matter if recently reclassified based on phylogenetic research) and the semisynthetic compounds of closely related structure obtained. Biological activities of crude extracts and isolated diterpenes will be briefly discussed.

Effects of Central Kalimantan Plant Extracts on Intraerythrocytic Babesia gibsoni in Culture

The inhibitory effects of 45 plant extracts selected from Central Kalimantan, Indonesia on Babesia gibsoni in vitro and their acute toxicity to mice were evaluated. Of these plant extracts studied, Arcangelisia flava, Curcuma zedoaria, Garcinia benthamiana, Lansium domesticum and Peronema canescens were found to have appreciable antibabesial activity with IC50 values from 5.3 to 49.3 microg/ml without acute toxicity in mice at the intraperitoneal dose of 0.7 g/kg of body weight.

Cornutins C-L, neo-clerodane-type diterpenoids from Cornutia grandifolia var. intermedia

Ten novel neo-clerodane diterpenoids, named cornutins C-L, have been isolated from the leaves of Cornutia grandifolia var. intermedia. Their structures have been elucidated by detailed spectroscopic analysis. In addition, the in vitro antiplasmodial activity of four isolated compounds (cornutin C-F) has been evaluated, revealing only a marginal activity.
