Abstract
PURPOSE To systematically summarize the research trends and emphases of ROP in the past decades by analyzing the characteristics of the top 100 cited ROP articles. METHODS The 100 most cited articles on ROP published from January 1, 1950 to December 31, 2021 were searched by Web of Science. Information such as year of publication, number of citations, journal and impact factor, type of research and topic, country of origin, institution and authorship of each article was extracted to analyze its characteristics. RESULTS A total of 15,928 articles were returned. These articles were published in 43 journals between 1952 and 2018, originating from 14 countries. The most widely published journal was Pediatrics (n = 19, IF = 8.109), followed by Archives of Ophthalmology (n = 15, IF = 4.399). The most cited paper (Gole et al. Archives of Ophthalmology 2005 Jul, 1614 citations) reported on the international classification of ROP. The most prevalent topic was the pathophysiology of ROP (n = 39), followed by the treatment of ROP (n = 32). Most were original research (n = 72), mainly based on research design of basic science. The most published articles were published in the United States (n = 61), and the institutions were Oregon Health & Science University, Dept Ophthalmol (n = 7). CONCLUSIONS These 100 most frequently cited papers reflect the significant progress and several hot topics of ROP in recent decades, and this paper will help us further understand the knowledge and progress of ROP diagnosis and treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To analyze the top 100 most-cited articles on renal cell carcinoma (RCC) using bibliometric methods based on the Web of Science core collection database and to explore the research status, hotspots, and emerging trends in RCC. METHODS The literature on RCC was searched in the Web of Science core collection database using a specific search strategy, and the types of literature were limited to articles and reviews, with no restrictions to language and publication date. The top 100 articles with the highest number of citations were extracted after the manual screening. The publication year, the number of citations, authors, country, institution, journal, and keywords of these articles were collected and analyzed. Descriptive statistics and visual analysis were performed using Microsoft Excel, VOSviewer, CiteSpace, R, and SPSS. RESULTS The number of citations of the top 100 articles varied from 541 to 4530, with a median citation count of 807.5, and the citation rates ranged from 13.8 to 448.4 citations per year. Motzer RJ (n = 22), Escudier B (n = 13), Rini BI (n = 13), and Hutson TE (n = 11) were major contributors to this research area, with Motzer RJ publishing 16 articles as the first author. The US (n = 73), France (n = 5), Canada (n = 4), and Sweden (n = 4) were the leading countries for RCC studies. MEMORIAL SLOAN KETTERING CANCER CENTER (n = 22) was the institution with the highest number of publications. These 100 articles were derived from 24 journals, and the New England Journal of Medicine had the largest number of articles published (n = 18, impact factor = 91.245). The keyword co-occurrence network analysis showed that research hotspots in this field included molecular mechanisms of RCC development and progression, surgical treatment, targeted drug-related clinical trials, and immunotherapy. CONCLUSION We analyzed the top 100 articles with the highest number of citations in the field of RCC and identified the influential authors, countries, institutions, and journals in this field. This study also presented the current research status, hotspots, and future trends in RCC.

Abstract
Background The number of citations of an article reflects its impact on the scientific community. The aim of this study was to identify and characterize the 100 most cited articles on lung cancer screening. Methods The 100 most cited articles on lung cancer screening published in all scientific journals were identified using the Web of Science database. Relevant data, including the number of citations, publication year, publishing journal and impact factor (IF), authorship and country of origin, article type and study design, screening modality, and main topic, were collected and analyzed. Results The 100 most cited articles were all English and published between 1973 and 2017, with 81 published after 2000. The mean number of citations was 292.90 (range 100–3,910). Sixty articles originated from the United States. These articles were published in 32 journals; there was a statistically significant positive correlation between journal IF and the number of citations (r=0.238, P=0.018). Seventy-nine articles were original research of which 37.9% were about results from randomized controlled trials (RCTs). The most common screening modalities in these articles were low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) (n=78), followed by chest X-ray radiography (CXR) and sputum cytology (n=11). The most common topic in these articles was screening test effectiveness. Conclusions Our study presents a detailed list and analysis of the 100 most cited articles published about lung cancer screening which provides insight into the historical developments and key contributions in this field.

Abstract
Background Bibliometric analysis is commonly used to identify influential research within a given topic. Purpose To identify the 100 top-cited articles in head and neck radiology, analyse the history and trends in head and neck imaging research, and understand what constitutes a highly cited work. Material and Methods A literature search was performed on the Thomson Reuters Web of Science using pre-defined search terms. The results were ranked according to citation count and screened to create a single database. The information included in the database were: Web of Science citations, year published, first author, primary institution, country of origin, journal, journal impact factor, title, study design, study focus and modality. Results 24,664 eligible papers were returned. Citations for the 100 top-cited articles ranged from 115 to 1185, and citations per year ranged from 3.5 to 197.5. More than half of the articles were published in the 2000s (n = 67). Radiology has the greatest number of publications (n = 22), followed by Journal of Nuclear Medicine (n = 14). Positron Emission Tomography (n = 56) was the most commonly studied modality, followed by Magnetic Resonance (n = 40) and Computed Tomography (n = 31). The most common topics of publication were diagnosis (n = 63), followed by prognosis (n = 16). Conclusion This study provides insights into the most influential research in head and neck radiology in the current time. It also serves as a guide to the characteristics of a highly cited work in this field.

Abstract
PURPOSE Bibliometric analysis is a quantitative assessment of the academic literature in a particular field. The aim of our study was to characterize the 100 top-cited articles regarding transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). MATERIALS AND METHODS The 'Web of Science' database was used to identify the leading articles regarding TACE for HCC. We determined the top 100 articles according to citations and performed an analysis on year of publication, authorship, department affiliation, publishing journal, institution and country of origin, subject matter and article type. RESULTS The top-cited articles received between 92 and 2254 citations (median 283.4). The top 100 papers were published in 32 journals between 1983 and 2016. Cancer, Radiology and Hepatology published the most articles (n = 40). Internal medicine was the department affiliation of the first author in 49%. The country providing the most highly cited articles was Japan (n = 24). CONCLUSION We performed an analysis of the 100 top-cited articles dealing with TACE for HCC, presenting a detailed list of the most influential and historically significant papers. Japan was the country that produced the most top-cited articles, highlighting its key contribution to this field of the literature.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to analyze the 100 top-cited systematic reviews/meta-analyses on diabetic research. METHODS The Science Citation Index Expanded database was searched to identify top-cited studies on diabetic research up to March 4th, 2020. Studies were analyzed using the following characteristics: citation number, publication year, country and institution of origin, authorship, topics, and journals. RESULTS The 100 top-cited diabetic systematic reviews/meta-analyses were published in 43 different journals, with Diabetes Care having the highest numbers (n = 17), followed by The Journal of the American Medical Association (n = 14) and Lancet (n = 9). The majority of studies are published in the 2000s. The number of citations ranged from 2197 to 301. The highest number of contributions was from the USA, followed by England and Australia. The leading institution was Harvard University. The hot topic was a risk factor (n = 33), followed by comorbidity (n = 27). CONCLUSIONS The 100 top-cited systematic reviews/meta-analyses on diabetic research identify impactful authors, journals, institutes, and countries. It will also provide the most important references to evidence-based medicine in diabetes and serve as a guide to the features of a citable paper in this field.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To analyse the coverage and main bibliometric indicators of Insights into Imaging in Scopus and the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) from the Web of Science Core Collection database. METHODS The evolution of journal production in the Scopus database was analysed according to document types, collaboration indexes between authors and institutions, and citation indicators (number of citations, SCImago Journal Rank, quartile, h-index, and most cited works). Networks of collaboration among authors, institutions, and countries were also analysed, as well as those of co-word networks. As a complementary source of information, the Emerging Source Citation Index from the Web of Science database was also considered. RESULTS Four hundred seventy-four papers were included in Scopus and 292 in ESCI. The index of collaboration was 5.18 for authors and 2.74 for institutions. International collaboration occurred in 24.7% of the papers. The number of citations received in Scopus (4295) exceeds the number of citations received in ESCI (1177). The average number of citations per paper was 9.06 in Scopus versus 4.03 in ESCI. The h-index was 29 in Scopus and 16 in ESCI. Several collaborative groups were identified at the national and international level. CONCLUSIONS There is a progression of Insights into Imaging in the ranking of journals in the area that, if maintained, will allow it to remain in the first quartile in the Scopus database. The main topics of interest were technologies such as 'Magnetic resonance imaging', 'Computed tomography', 'Radiology', and 'Ultrasonography' and diseases such as 'Breast cancer' and those related to 'Paediatrics'.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Extensive research has been conducted to find neuroimaging biomarkers for psychiatric disorders. This study aimed at identifying trends of the 100 most highly cited articles on neuroimaging in primary psychiatric disorders. METHODS The most highly cited original research articles were identified and analyzed, following searches of MEDLINE and Web of Science All Databases. RESULTS The top 100 articles ranked by yearly citation (from 137.5 to 31.1) were published between 1989 and 2017. Depressive disorders (30 articles), schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorders (27), autism spectrum disorder (17), substance-related and addictive disorders (7), and post-traumatic stress disorder (7) were among the most studied conditions. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (42), structural magnetic resonance imaging (30), and positron emission tomography (22) were the most utilized neuroimaging modalities. While 85 articles investigated the pathophysiology of psychiatric disorders (including 7 focusing on developmental changes and 1 on genetic susceptibility), 15 articles studied the impact of treatment, including antidepressants (6), deep brain stimulation (4), antipsychotics (3), behavior therapy (3), and exercise (1). The analysis also identified the most contributing authors, countries (the United States: 71 articles, the United Kingdom: 8, Canada: 5, and China: 5), and journals (JAMA Psychiatry: 20 articles and Biological Psychiatry: 17). Ninety-eight studies were prospective, and two were retrospective. The sample size ranged from 3 to 1,188 (median: 21). CONCLUSIONS Our study identified intellectual milestones in the utility of neuroimaging in investigating primary psychiatric disorders. The historic trends could help guide future research in this field.
