Abstract
Background Endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) is a valuable tool for diagnosing pulmonary disease due to its efficiency and safety. We retrospectively analyzed patients with mediastinal masses who underwent diagnostic EBUS-TBNA at Shanghai Chest Hospital, and evaluated the clinical accuracy of EBUS-TBNA in the diagnosis mediastinal masses. Method From 2009 and 2014, patients who received EBUS-TBNA to diagnose a isolated mediastinal mass were enrolled. Clinical follow-up was performed to ascertain the patient’s final diagnosis. Results Forty-six patients were enrolled in this study. Thirty-seven were diagnosed with an oncologic disease, 3 were diagnosed with a mediastinal infection, and 2 were found to have a mediastinal goiter. The overall sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, diagnostic yield was 63.6%, 100%, 100%, 42.9%, and 71.4%, respectively. Conclusion EBUS-TBNA is a safe and effective means of diagnosing mediastinal masses.

Abstract
Introduction: Novel technologies are currently used for lung cancer diagnosis. EBUS-TBNA 22G is considered one of the most important tools. However; there are still issues with the sample size.Patients and Methods: 223 patients underwent EBUS-TBNA with a 21G Olympus needle, 22GUS Mediglobe and 22GUB Mediglobe. In order to evaluate the efficiency of 22GUB novel needle design. In order to evaluate the sample size of each needle, we constructed cell blocks and measured the different number of slices from each biopsy site. Results: The 22GUB novel needle had similar and larger number of slices from each biopsy site compared to 21G needle. Discussion: Firstly as a novel methodology we used the number of slices from the constructed cell blocks in order to evaluate the sample size. Secondly, we should seek novel needle designs and not only concentrate on the volume of the sample size.

Abstract
Background
Endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) is a very useful diagnostic tool for the assessment of enlarged mediastinal and hilar lymph nodes. It is a safe procedure with a low risk of complications.
Case Description
We report a case of bronchial fistula and pneumomediastinum after EBUS-TBNA, which was performed shortly after a mediastinoscopy. Due to the extent of the bronchial lesion, a surgical closure of the bronchial fistula was necessary. The patient recovered completely.
Conclusion
The performance of EBUS-TBNA shortly after a mediastinoscopy should not be recommended to avoid possible procedure-related complications.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The aim of our study was to assess the interest of cervical mediastinoscopy in the management of benign mediastinal lymphadenopathy. METHOD We performed a single-center retrospective descriptive study over a period of 5 years (2013-2017) in the department of thoracic surgery of university hospital Hassan II of Fez. RESULTS During this period, a total of 137 cervical mediastinoscopies were performed among which 68 for a benign disease. This represents a frequency of 49.63 %. There were 22 men and 46 women with a mean age of 43.76 years±17.08. Chest CT showed isolated mediastinal lymphadenopathy in 52 %, associated with pulmonary images in 35 %. Cervical mediastinoscopy led to pathological diagnosis in 94 %. The pathological results showed a sarcoidosis in 51.5 %, tuberculosis in 41.2 % and a lymph node echinococcosis in 1 case. CONCLUSION Cervical mediastinoscopy remains a low risk modality in expert hands, which allows pathological diagnosis with excellent sensitivity, acceptable morbidity and no mortality in our experience.
