Though rare, their profound impact on morbidity and mortality underscores the collective urgency required to safeguard the neurological well-being of the European populace. Through this multifaceted approach, Europe can effectively navigate the complex terrain posed with these emergent infections.

A radiological and clinical description of metastatic angiosarcoma simulating a hydatid cyst

Los angiosarcomas son sarcomas malignos que se originan en las células endoteliales vasculares. Su diagnóstico diferencial es muy amplio debido a su parecido con otras enfermedades, como las parasitarias, y usualmente es un diagnóstico por exclusión. La neurocisticercosis y la hidatidosis cerebral son parasitosis intestinales que pueden comprometer el sistema nervioso central y tienen mayor incidencia en los países suramericanos.

El diagnóstico se establece a partir del perfil epidemiológico, el estudio parasitológico, la apariencia radiológica de las lesiones y el estudio de histopatología del espécimen.

Se presenta el caso de una adolescente con factores de riesgo para parasitosis y neuroimágenes sugestivas de hidatidosis cerebral, cuyo diagnóstico definitivo fue angiosarcoma cardiaco metastásico.

Primary Solitary Hydatid Cyst of Brain in a 12-Year-Old Boy: A Case Report

Hydatidosis is a zoonotic disease caused by Echinococcus parasite that frequently involves liver and lungs. Primary intracranial hydatidosis is a rare condition which can be life threatening if ruptured. Here we report an unusual case of primary intracranial hydatid cyst without any other organ involvement, diagnosed in a 12-year-old boy in Emam Reza hospital, Birjand, Iran in November 2016, in order to focus on the importance of proper diagnosis and management, especially in endemic areas.

Primary Giant Cerebral Hydatid Cyst in an 8-year-old Girl

Echinococcosis, also called hydatid disease, is a parasitic disease that passes from animals to humans. Literature reports suggest very rare cases of cerebral hydatid cysts. Brain involvement with hydatid disease occurs in 1%–2% of all Echinococcus infections. In this report, we aim to emphasize the presentation of such an isolated primary cerebral hydatid cyst, discuss its radiological features, Emergency department management, inpatient medical management, referral to neurosurgery, consequent operative procedures, postoperative care, and outcome.

Hydatidosis Following Giant Cerebral Hydatid Cyst Operation

BACKGROUND

Hydatid cysts (HCs) are caused by parasites, the larvae of Echinococcus granulosus. They usually affect the liver and lung, but primary brain involvement is rarely seen. HCs may cause a mass effect in the brain. For this reason, surgical excision must be performed. Complications may rarely occur after surgery. Recognition of complications is of vital importance.

CASE DESCRIPTION

A 45-year-old man presented with complaints of personality disorder and severe, long-standing headache. The patient had no neurologic deficit. However, there were symptoms associated with increased intracranial pressure. Radiologic examination revealed intracranial HCs. Complications did not develop during the operation. Six months following the surgery, the patient came back after experiencing unconsciousness. Control cerebral magnetic resonance imaging showed multiple cerebral cysts.

CONCLUSIONS

Surgical resection should be applied carefully in the treatment of cerebral cysts. Complications may occur later in patients who do not develop complications at the time of operation. For this reason, follow-up of the patients should definitely be done by magnetic resonance imaging.
