Abstract
BACKGROUND Vascular malformations (VMs) arise as a result of errors in the process of angiogenesis and are usually present at birth, but may not become apparent until after birth. However, giant VMs of the head and face are uncommon, with few reported cases, and the prognosis for their surgical intervention is unclear. CASE SUMMARY A 12-year-old girl was admitted to the hospital with findings of an enlarged right temporal scalp. After admission, computed tomography (CT) angiography of cerebral ateries showed a right occlusal gap and a right temporal artery venous malformation. Furthermore, cerebral angiography showed a right temporal lobe VM with multiple vessels supplying blood. The patient underwent surgery to remove the malformed vessels and the eroded skull. Two hours after the surgery, the patient's right pupil was dilated, and an urgent CT scan of the skull showed a right subdural haematoma under the incision, which was urgently removed by a second operation. After surgery, we gave continuous antibiotic anti-infection treatment, and the patient recovered well and was discharged two weeks later. CONCLUSION Surgical removal of giant haemangiomas is risky and adequate preoperative (including interventional embolisation) and intraoperative preparations should be made.

Abstract
PURPOSE To provide a comprehensive review of the current strategies in the management of laryngeal hemangiomas, with an aim to introduce a management algorithm that aligns with the variable clinical presentations and anatomical complexities of these lesions. METHODS We conducted an extensive literature search across major databases using specific and general terms, combined with Boolean operators, to ensure comprehensiveness. Articles from January 2004 to August 2023 were included, with findings categorized by management approach. RESULTS Laryngeal hemangiomas exhibit a spectrum of manifestations, ranging from asymptomatic lesions to those causing severe airway obstruction. Optimal management demands an individualized approach tailored to the patient's unique presentation and anatomical considerations. Diverse treatment modalities, each with distinct indications, advantages, and limitations, are explored. Notable highlights encompass the prominent role of Beta-blockers, notably Propranolol, in addressing problematic infantile hemangiomas, the nuanced efficacy of laser therapies contingent upon hemangioma type and depth, and the critical relevance of tracheotomy in emergencies. Novel approaches like transoral robotic surgery and transoral ultrasonic surgery, demonstrate promise in specific scenarios. We propose a management algorithm based on the complexity and presentation of laryngeal hemangiomas, emphasizing individualized treatment strategies, thereby addressing the unique challenges and nuances of each case. CONCLUSION Laryngeal hemangioma management requires personalized approaches informed by diverse therapies, clinical expertise, and collaboration. The review introduces an algorithm spanning observation to advanced interventions, adapting to each case's complexity. Ongoing research promises innovative treatments.

Abstract
Although hemangiomas are the most common soft tissue tumors, intramuscular hemangiomas account for only 0.8% of all vascular tumors. These lesions are rarely located adjacent to the bone and cause changes in the adjacent bone. They are often mistakenly diagnosed as bone tumors. In this study, a case of a 19-year-old male patient with intramuscular hemangioma causing cortical thickening was reported.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Propranolol has emerged as a first line agent in the management of hemangiomas. With increased use of propranolol, studies have also focused on relapses following propranolol therapy. Our current study evaluates the role of bleomycin triamcinolone sclerotherapy for the management of propranolol resistant Infantile Hemangioma (IH). We also evaluated the role color Doppler USG for response assessment of sclerotherapy. METHODS Patients with Propranolol resistant (Non- responders/ Partial responders) IHs were included in the study. Patients received intralesional bleomycin at a dose of 0.5 IU/kg followed by intralesional injection of triamcinolone at a dose of 2mg/kg body weight. Clinically patients were grouped into excellent, partial and non responders. Doppler parameters; Resistivity index (RI), Pulsatility index(PI) and Peak systolic velocity (PSV) were used to evaluate the response to sclerotherapy. These parameters were evaluated prior to sclerotherapy and 3 months following completion of therapy. The clinical responses of the patients were compared with the change in Doppler parameters before and after treatment. RESULTS A total of 115 participants were considered for analysis; 60.86% had excellent response, 32.17% had partial response and 6.95% had poor response. There was a significant change in terms of RI, PI and PSV in patients who were either excellent or partial responders. Poor responders did not have a significant change in Doppler parameters. CONCLUSION Combined bleomycin- triamcinolone sclerotherapy is an effective therapy for the management of propranolol resistant IHs. Doppler parameters RI, PI and PSV are reliable indicators of response in the management of IH.

Abstract
Childhood diseases are a continuous source of interest in all areas of general and dental medicine. Congenital, developmental, and hereditary diseases may either be present upon birth or appear in early childhood. Developmental anomalies, although often asymptomatic, may become grounds for different infections. Furthermore, they can indicate certain systemic disorders. Childhood age frequently brings about benign tumors and different types of traumatic lesions to the oral mucosa. Traumatic lesions can be caused by chemical, mechanical, or thermal injury. Mucocele and ranula are, by definition, traumatic injuries of the salivary glands or their ducts. Recurrent aphthous lesions are the most common type of ulcerations in childhood, and their etiology is considered multifactorial. Oral mucosal lesions in children require different treatment approaches depending on etiological factors and clinical presentation. Clinicians should have adequate knowledge of oral anatomy in order to diagnose and treat pathological conditions.

Abstract
Background A paradigm shift has occurred regarding the treatment of cutaneous hemangiomas over the last few years, from an open surgical approach to a conservative or minimally invasive approach. There are various treatment modalities described, and response to them is variable and unpredictable. This study was conducted to study the clinical profile of children with uncomplicated cutaneous hemangiomas, their response to oral propranolol, and compare intralesional bleomycin and intralesional triamcinolone among nonresponders to propranolol. Materials and Methods A trial was conducted among 158 children <12 years with cutaneous hemangiomas from January 2019 to October 2020 in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Based on the response to propranolol, partial/nonresponders were later assigned randomly to either receive intralesional bleomycin (n = 30) or intralesional triamcinolone (n = 29). Response to treatment and complications were assessed in two groups. All children were followed up for 6 months. Results Of 158 children, complete response to propranolol was found in 99 (62.7% [95% confidence interval (CI): 54.6%-70.1%]) children. Partial and no response was found in 33 (20.9% [95% CI: 15.0%-28.2%]) and 26 (95% CI: 16.5% [11.2%-23.4%]) children, respectively. In the bleomycin group, 66.7%, 23.3%, and 10.0% of patients showed excellent, good, and poor response, respectively, and in the triamcinolone group, 27.6%, 24.1%, and 48.3% showed excellent, good, and poor response, respectively (P = 0.002). However, there was no significant difference between them in terms of complications. Conclusion Intralesional bleomycin was found to be a better drug in terms of response compared to triamcinolone. There are no significant differences in complications between them. Further studies are needed to further evaluate the combined efficacy of bleomycin with triamcinolone and other treatment modalities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Congenital vascular anomalies and hemangiomas (CVAH) such as infantile hemangiomas, port-wine stains and brain arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) impair patients' lives and may require treatment if complications occur. However, a great variety of treatments for those conditions exist and the best interventions remain under discussion. OBJECTIVE To summarize Cochrane systematic review (SR) evidence on treatments for CVAH. DESIGN AND SETTING Review of SRs conducted in the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery of Universidade Federal de São Paulo, Brazil. METHODS A broad search was conducted on March 9, 2021, in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews to retrieve any Cochrane SRs that assessed treatments for CVAH. The key characteristics and results of all SRs included were summarized and discussed. RESULTS A total of three SRs fulfilled the inclusion criteria and were presented as a qualitative synthesis. One SR reported a significant clinical reduction of skin redness by at least 20%, with more pain, among 103 participants with port-wine stains. One SR reported that propranolol improved the likelihood of clearance 13 to 16-fold among 312 children with hemangiomas. One SR reported that the relative risk of death or dependence was 2.53 times greater in the intervention arm than with conservative management, among 218 participants with brain AVMs. CONCLUSION Cochrane reviews suggest that treatment of port-wine stains with pulsed-dye laser improves redness; propranolol remains the best option for infantile hemangiomas; and conservative management seems to be superior to surgical intervention for treating brain AVMs.

Abstract
As a member of the long non‑coding (lnc)RNA family, lncRNA maternally expressed 8, small nucleolar RNA host gene (MEG8), has been reported to serve an oncogenic role in several types of malignancies, including hepatocellular carcinoma, non‑small cell lung cancer and pancreatic cancer. The current study aimed to investigate the effect of the knockdown of MEG8 on human hemangioma endothelial cell (HemEC) proliferation, apoptosis and invasion, in addition to determining the underlying molecular mechanism. The knockdown of lncRNA MEG8 was achieved by transfecting lncRNA MEG8 small interfering (si)RNA into HemECs, while the combined knockdown of lncRNA MEG8 knockdown and microRNA (miR)‑203 was established by co‑transfecting lncRNA MEG8 siRNA and a miR‑203 inhibitor into HemECs. The cell proliferation, apoptosis and invasion and the expression levels of miR‑34a, miR‑200b, miR‑200b and Notch signaling pathway‑related factors were detected via CCK‑8 Kit, flow cytometry, Transwell, reverse transcription‑quantitative PCR and western blot assay, respectively. The knockdown of lncRNA MEG8 significantly inhibited proliferation (P<0.05) and invasion (P<0.05), but promoted apoptosis (P<0.01) in HemECs. Furthermore, lncRNA MEG8 knockdown upregulated miR‑203 (P<0.01) expression, but did not alter miR‑34a or miR‑200b expression (both P>0.05). Subsequent experiments revealed that miR‑203 silencing exerted no significant effect on the expression levels of lncRNA MEG8 (P>0.05) in HemECs. In addition, miR‑203 silencing increased cell proliferation (P<0.05) and invasion (P<0.01), but suppressed apoptosis (P<0.05). miR‑203 silencing also reversed the effect of lncRNA MEG8 knockdown on the proliferation (P<0.05), apoptosis (P<0.001) and invasion (P<0.01) of HemECs. Moreover, lncRNA MEG8 knockdown downregulated jagged canonical notch ligand 1 (JAG1; P<0.05) and Notch1 (P<0.05) expression levels, while miR‑203 silencing upregulated JAG1 (P<0.01) and Notch1 (P<0.01) expression levels and reversed the effects of lncRNA MEG8 knockdown on JAG1 (P<0.01) and Notch1 (P<0.01) expression in HemECs. In conclusion, the findings of the present study suggested that lncRNA MEG8 knockdown may inhibit cell proliferation and invasion, but promote cell apoptosis in hemangioma via miR‑203‑induced mediation of the Notch signaling pathway.

Abstract
PurposeThe study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of using large data sets for new diabetes patient prescriptions.Design/methodology/approachThis study consisted of 101,766 individuals, who had applied to the hospital with a diabetes diagnosis and were hospitalized for 1–14 days and subjected to laboratory tests and medication.FindingsWith the help of Mahout and Scala, data mining methods of random forest and multilayer perceptron were used. Accuracy rates of these methods were found to be 0.879 and 0.849 for Mahout and 0.849 and 0.870 for Scala.Originality/valueThe mahout random forest method provided a better prediction of new prescription requirements than the other methods according to accuracy criteria.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Oral hemangioma is a benign vascular tumor characterized by the presence of numerous blood vessels. We aimed to examine the clinical and ultrasonographic findings of patients diagnosed with oral hemangioma in our ultrasonography (USG) archive, retrospectively. METHODS This study was conducted by examining 20 patients diagnosed with oral hemangioma and underwent USG examination in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology of Atatürk University Faculty of Dentistry from 2016 to 2020. All patients had intraoral and radiographic examinations. Patients pre-diagnosed clinically oral hemangioma were evaluated as intraoral with USG. The intraoral USG examinations were performed using both the B-mode and the color Doppler mode. RESULTS The mean age of the patients was 42.4 ± 19.14 years; 16 patients were female and four were male. The lesions were mostly observed on the alveolar mucosa (30%), followed by the buccal mucosa (25%), the lower lip (15%), the mouth floor (15%), the tongue (15%). In intraoral USG examinations of all oral hemangiomas, we detected submucosal located, well-defined, lobulated, non-capsule, hypo-isoechoic, heterogeneous lesion areas. Additionally, while we detected only peripheral blood flow in 6 (30%) of 20 patients, we detected both internal and peripheral blood flow in 14 (70%). CONCLUSIONS In our study, the examination of the oral hemangiomas with the intraoral probe and the color Doppler mode was very helpful in the differential diagnosis. Although histopathology has an important place in definitive diagnosis, particularly intraoral USG can provide sufficient information for the diagnosis of oral hemangiomas.
