Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to identify whether NTR is the independent risk factor for progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) in patients treated with concurrent chemo-radiotherapy (cCRT). METHODS We retrospectively studied 106 T1-4N1-3M0 non-small cell lung cancer patients treated with cCRT. The maximum standardized uptake value (SUVTumor) of the primary tumor and the metastatic lymph nodes (SUVLN) were measured. The prognostic significance of NTR for predicting PFS and OS was assessed. A multi-adjusted spline regression model was conducted to provide more precise estimates and examine the shape of the associations between NTR and the risk of progression. RESULTS From 2012 to 2017, 106 eligible patients were analyzed. The median follow-up time was 15.3 months (3.5-44.6 months). We determined the maximizing area under the time-dependent receiver operating characteristic curve was at an NTR of 0.73 for predicting PFS. The two-year PFS was significantly lower in the high-NTR group (35.7% vs. 55.4%, P = 0.02) and two-year OS (43.4% vs. 61.1%, P = 0.03 was also significantly worse. Multivariable analysis revealed that only NTR was an independent prognostic factor for PFS (hazard ratio [HR]: 10.04, P < 0.001) and OS (HR: 4.19, P = 0.03). The restricted cubic spline regression model showed that NTR had a non-linear relationship with log relative risk for progression. CONCLUSION NTR was an independent risk factor for predicting PFS and OS in T1-4N1-3M0 non-small cell lung cancer patients treated with cCRT.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the predictive performance of the maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) and mean standardized uptake value (SUVmean) of primary lesions based on 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) for EGFR mutation status in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). METHODS The PubMed/Medline, Embase, Cochrane Library and Web of Science databases were searched as of January 1, 2021. Studies whose reported data could be used to construct contingency tables were included. Study characteristics were extracted, and methodological quality assessment was conducted by two separate reviewers using the Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies. The pooled sensitivity, specificity and area under the summary receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) were calculated. The possible causes of heterogeneity were analysed by meta-regression. RESULTS The 18 included studies had a total of 4024 patients. The majority of the studies showed a low to unclear risk of bias and concerns of applicability. For differentiating EGFR-mutant NSCLC from wild-type NSCLC, the pooled sensitivity and specificity were 71 % and 60 % for SUVmax and 64 % and 63 % for SUVmean, respectively. The summary AUROCs of SUVmax and SUVmean were 0.69 (95 % CI, 0.65-0.73) and 0.68 (95 % CI, 0.64-0.72), respectively. The meta-regression analysis indicated that blindness to EGFR mutation test results, the number of readers and the number of PET/CT scanners were possible causes of heterogeneity. CONCLUSIONS Our meta-analysis implied that SUVmax and SUVmean of primary lesions from 18F-FDG PET/CT harboured moderate predictive efficacy for the EGFR mutation status of NSCLC.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The purpose of this study was to assess the predictive and prognostic role of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) in candidates with stage III non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) to neoadjuvant chemotherapy. PATIENTS AND METHODS Sixty-six patients with stage III NSCLC treated with induction chemotherapy from March 2013 to December 2017 were retrospectively identified. Response assessment were evaluated according to the Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) 1.1 and European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) criteria. 18F-FDG PET/CT metabolic parameters were analyzed as absolute values as well as percentage changes (Δ) between 2 consecutive scans, for primary tumor (T) and for regional lymph nodes (N). All clinical variables and metabolic parameters were compared with treatment response and correlated with progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS), based on a median follow-up of 9.4 months. RESULTS Post-induction therapy standardized uptake value (SUV)max_T, SUVmean_T, metabolic tumor volume (MTV_T), and total lesion glycolysis of the tumor (TLG_T) varied significantly between responders and non-responders (6.6 vs. 13.8; P = .001; 4.2 vs. 8.1; P < .001; 6 vs. 17.9; P = .002; and 24.1 vs. 136.3; P < .001, respectively). Likewise, percentage changes (Δ_T) were significantly different between the 2 groups (P < .001). Along with primary tumor, also post-SUVmax_N, post-SUVmean_N, and post-TLG_N (P = .024, P = .015, and P = .024, respectively), as well as all percentage changes (Δ_N) were different between responders and non-responders. RECIST 1.1 and EORTC response classifications were discordant in 27 patients (40.9%; κ = 0.265; P = .003). On multivariate analysis, post-TLG_N was an independent predictor for both PFS and OS, whereas RECIST 1.1 was a predictor only for OS. CONCLUSIONS Several metabolic parameters may differentiate responders from non-responders following neoadjuvant chemotherapy in stage III NSCLC. As compared with RECIST 1.1, EORTC seems to be more appropriate for evaluation therapeutic response. Finally, post-TLG_N has significant prognostic information.

Abstract
The purpose of the present prospective study was to evaluate the use of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) in the assessment of therapy response and the prediction of short-term outcomes by maximum and mean standardized uptake values (SUVmax and SUVmean, respectively), metabolic tumor volume (MTV) and total lesion glycolysis (TLG) following chemoradiotherapy (CRT) in patients with stage III adenocarcinoma of the lung. The study included a total of 15 patients, all of whom underwent two serial 18F-FDG PET/CT scans prior to and following 60-Gy radiotherapy with a concurrent cisplatin/pemetrexed combined chemotherapy regimen. SUVmax, SUVmean, MTV and TLG were determined. Short-term outcomes were assessed according to the Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) and the PET Response Criteria in Solid Tumors (PERCIST). Post-CRT SUVmax, ΔSUVmax, ΔMTV and ΔTLG varied significantly between responders and non-responders (P=0.009, P=0.015, P=0.006 and P=0.004, respectively). The differences in SUVmax, SUVmean, carcinoembryonic antigen, MTV and TLG between the responders and the non-responders at the initial 18F-FDG PET/CT scans were not statistically significant (P>0.05). The overall response rate was significantly higher (P=0.01) when evaluated using PERCIST compared with evaluation using RECIST. It was concluded that post-CRT SUVmax, ΔSUVmax, ΔMTV and ΔTLG may be used to differentiate the responders from the non-responders following CRT for stage III adenocarcinoma of the lung. This would aid in deciding whether or not to increase dosages or to incorporate a boost treatment without the requirement to suspend therapy.

Abstract
Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a leading cause of cancer-related death with a poor prognosis. Numerous factors contribute to treatment outcome. 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake reflects tumor metabolic activity and is an important prognosticator in patients with NSCLC. Volume-based FDG-PET parameters reflect the metabolic status of a malignancy more accurately than maximum standardized uptake value and thus are better prognostic markers in lung cancer. FDG-avid tumor burden parameters may help clinicians to predict treatment outcomes before and during therapy so that treatment can be adjusted to achieve the best possible outcomes while avoiding side effects.

Abstract
Background This retrospective study aims to assess the usefulness of SUVmax from FDG-PET imaging as a prognosticator for primary biopsy-proven stage I NSCLC treated with SBRT. Methods This study includes 95 patients of median age 77 years, with primary, biopsy-confirmed peripheral stage IA/IB NSCLC. All patients were treated with 60Gy in 3 fractions with a median treatment time of six days. Local, regional, and distant failures were evaluated independently according to the terms of RTOG1021. Local, regional, and distant control, overall- and progression-free survival were estimated by the Kaplan-Meier method. Cox proportional hazards regression was performed to determine whether SUVmax, age, KPS, gender, tumor size/T stage, or smoking history influenced outcomes. SUVmax was evaluated as both a continuous and as a dichotomous variable using a cutoff of <5 and ≥5. Results Median follow-up for the cohort was 16 months. Median OS and PFS were 25.3 and 40.3 months, respectively. SUV with a cutoff value of 5 predicted for OS and PFS (p = .024 for each) but did not achieve significance for LC (p = .256). On Cox univariate regression analysis, SUV as a dichotomous variable predicted for both OS and PFS (p = .027 and p = .030, respectively). Defined as a continuous variable, SUVmax continued to predict for OS and PFS (p = .032 and p = .003), but also predicted LC (p = .045) and trended toward significance for DC (p = .059). SUVmax did not predict for OS as a dichotomous or continuous variable. It did, however, predict for PFS as a continuous variable (p = .008), neared significance for local control (p = .057) and trended towards, significance for distant control (p = .092). Conclusions SUVmax appears to be a statistically and clinically significant independent prognostic marker for progression-free survival in patients with stage I NSCLC treated with SBRT. Prospective studies to more accurately define the role of tumor FDG uptake in the prognosis of NSCLC are warranted.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Despite radical radiotherapy and chemotherapy (CT), the prognosis of locally advanced nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is poor. New prognostic indicators are being looked forward to improve the survival. [18F]-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake on PET/CT has been observed as a prognostic marker mainly in early-stage disease. Our aim was to examine the prognostic value of FDG uptake in locally advanced NSCLC. MATERIALS AND METHODS Between 2009 and 2011, 103 NSCLC patients underwent disease staging using FDG PET/CT before conformal radiotherapy. Thoracic radiation was administered at a daily fraction of 2 Gy. Total dose was prescribed according to the tumor response against CT. All patients underwent CT. Survival was estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method. RESULTS The median age of the patients was 59 years (range 39-83). The median follow-up time was 22.63 months (range 6-48.03 months). There was a statistically significant difference in overall survival (OS) between the low (<10.7) and high (≥10.7) standardized uptake value (SUVmax) groups (p = 0.006) on univariate analysis (3-year OS was 42% in the low (<10.7) and 23% in the high (≥10.7) SUVmax groups). On multivariate analysis with determining tumor size, tumor SUVmax provided additional significant prognostic information on OS (HR 1.046; 95 % CI 1.009-1.085, p = 0.015). CONCLUSIONS FDG uptake has predictive value in locally advanced NSCLC, independently of tumor size.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Integrated PET/CT is widely used in the preoperative staging and prognostic assessment of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. The aims of this study were to evaluate the prognostic significance of SUVmax of primary tumor in patients undergoing surgical treatment and, in order to minimize technical interferences, to verify whether SUVmax standardized by SUVmax liver or SUVmax blood pool provided additional prognostic information. PATIENTS AND METHODS A retrospective study of 413 consecutive NSCLC patients undergoing potentially curative surgical resection after PET/CT obtained in the same PET center over a 6-year period. The SUVmax was calculated drawing region of interest around the primitive tumor, the liver, and the aortic arch in PET images. The same procedure was performed for 2 adjacent planes and the average of these measures was considered. RESULTS Nine patients were considered 30-day postoperative deaths and were excluded from the analysis. At the end of the study, 312 (77.2%) of the 404 patients were alive (median follow-up, 26 months) and 92 had died (median survival, 17 months). At multivariate analysis tumor-node-metastasis stage, primary tumor grading and primary tumor SUVmax (T-SUVmax) were found to be independent prognostic factors, while T-SUVmax/SUVmax blood pool ratio, and T-SUVmax/SUVmax liver ratio were not. CONCLUSIONS T-SUVmax is an independent predictor for survival in NSCLC patients undergoing surgery and might be helpful in guiding adjuvant treatment strategies. SUVmax of primary tumor normalized by SUV blood pool or SUV liver does not provide additional prognostic information.
