Assessing evidence-based practice among Australian radiographers: A self-report survey

INTRODUCTION

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is essential for ensuring the delivery of effective and efficient healthcare. Despite this, EBP is not always well implemented in the clinical environment. Evidence suggests that the application of EBP is likely impacted by healthcare workers' attitudes, knowledge and skills. While there has been a recent proliferation of international research examining diagnostic radiographers' attitudes towards, knowledge of and skills in EBP, no such research exists in an Australian context.

METHODS

This study presents the results of a validated self-report survey, the evidence-based practice questionnaire (EBPQ), administered to Australian diagnostic radiographers. The data were described and aggregated means were calculated for each of the domains. Inferential statistical tests were computed, including Cronbach's alpha, Pearson's correlations and independent t-tests, and Kruskal-Wallis tests.

RESULTS

The aggregated mean for the practice domain was 5.02 (SD 1.104), for the attitudes domain it was 5.41 (SD 1.169), and for the knowledge and skills domain, it was 5.20 (SD 1.177) on a seven-point scale. Significant associations were identified among these domains, with individuals holding higher qualifications and occupying leadership positions more likely to score higher. Additionally, the modality in which an individual primarily practiced appeared to also have an impact on their score. However, no significant correlation was found between any domain and the number of years an individual had been practicing.

CONCLUSION

This research has established a baseline of Australian diagnostic radiographers' practices, knowledge skills and attitudes towards evidence-based practice.

IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE

This baseline can inform the development of interventions aimed at enhancing the role of evidence-based practice in the sampled population.

A Psychometric Study of the Student Evidence-Based Practice Scale S-EBPQ-Arabic Version for Use among Undergraduate Nursing Students

Background

Previous studies have demonstrated the significance of evidence-based practice in improving patient care and outcomes. Therefore, integrating evidence-based practice into the health professions' education curriculum has become a pedagogical priority. However, there is a lack of reliable and valid scales to measure students' evidence-based practice usage, attitudes, knowledge, and skills in Arab countries.

Aim

This study aims to examine the adapted Student Evidence-Based Practice Scale Questionnaire (S-EBPQ) validity at logical statistical level and reliability for use among students in Arabic context.

Methods

This cross-sectional study included 233 undergraduate nursing students from a university in Saudi Arabia, who were recruited after translating and pilot testing the S-EBPQ. Three distinctive types of validity including conceptual, content, and face validity were assessed to determine the quality of the questionnaire items logically. Exploratory factor analyses were performed to examine the tool's structural validity. Additionally, internal consistency was assessed to evaluate reliability. Findings. All items were considered relevant to Arab culture, and no changes were made to any items. The content validity indices for all items were above 0.80 as this was considered an acceptable value. The exploratory factor analysis identified the same four factors (practice, attitude, retrieving and reviewing evidence, and sharing and applying evidence-based practice). All KMO values for the individual items ≥0.876 were also well above the acceptable 0.6 limit. The four-factor structure explained a total variance of 64%, with factor load score λ ≥ 0.455. The total and subscale S-EBPQ scores showed evidence of reliability, with Cronbach's alpha ≥0.8.

Conclusions

This study demonstrated the reliability and validity of the Arabic S-EBPQ version. The study has the potential to advance Arab countries' understanding of evidence-based practice. S-EBPQ is a validated tool that can be used to assess nursing students' knowledge of EBP practices. Since educators need to continually evaluate instructional and curricular design in order to meet contemporary nursing needs, this scale can enhance the educational process and enhance students' competencies.

Descriptive and Content Analysis of Questionnaires Used to Assess Evidence-Based Practice Among Dietitians: A Systematic Review

BACKGROUND

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is described as the integration of the following 3 main dimensions in health professionals' decision making: best currently available research evidence, professional expertise, and patient's values and circumstances. Barriers to EBP at an individual level have been assessed using questionnaires. Knowing which EBP dimensions are actually explored in these questionnaires is essential to promote EBP and its adoption.

OBJECTIVE

The aim of this review was to identify and describe questionnaires that have been used among dietitians to evaluate knowledge, skills, attitudes, and/or behaviors related to EBP, and to perform a content analysis of these, drawn on the EBP dimensions explored.

METHODS

Questionnaires were identified through a systematic review in MEDLINE, Embase and the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (last search was November 2022). Eligibility criteria were studies using, evaluating, or developing questionnaires meant to evaluate knowledge, skills, attitudes, and/or behaviors related to EBP among dietitians. The content analysis was conducted to identify the EBP dimensions explored (ie, research evidence, professional expertise, and/or patient's values and circumstances). Questionnaire items were categorized as follows: 1 sole EBP dimension, a combination of dimensions, or no identifiable dimension.

RESULTS

Thirty reports (25 studies) were included. The analysis of the 847 items extracted from the 25 questionnaires used showed that the main EBP dimension explored was the integration of research evidence into decision making, found in 75% of items, solely or in combination with another dimension. Professional expertise was explored in 18% of the items, patient's values and circumstances were found in 3%, and the combination of these 3 dimensions was found in <1%.

CONCLUSIONS

The important imbalance of explored EBP dimensions in the questionnaires used may lead to a partial and misleading evaluation that prevents efficient strategies to foster EBP. There is an important need to develop more integrative and accurate evaluations of EBP targeting dietitians to promote and develop high-quality dietetics practice.

Validity and reliability of a questionnaire measuring EBDPs among registered dietitian nutritionist

BACKGROUND

There is a lack of a valid and reliable instrument that measures objective and subjective knowledge of evidence-based dietetic practices (EBDP) among registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs). The present study aimed to develop and assess the validity and reliability of an EBDP Questionnaire (EBDPQ) with objective knowledge items (i.e., quiz items) among RDNs in the USA.

METHODS

Subscales from four existing evidence-based practice (EBP) instruments were combined and modified for dietetics. Content and face validity and internal consistency were used to assess the full survey. Survey responsiveness and test-retest reliability were evaluated within the objective knowledge subscale. Content experts (n = 11) and nutrition professionals (n = 16) completed validation reviews. Doctoral students enrolled in a research course (n = 12) were used to analyse survey responsiveness. Internal and test-retest relability analyses utilised RDN participants (time point 1, n = 482; time point 2, n = 335).

RESULTS

Content validation resulted in a 38-item questionnaire. Average percent agreement among face validity reviewers was 95.1%. Only the pre-validation version of the objective knowledge subscale resulted in significantly higher post-course scores (Mdn = 11.50) compared to the pre-course (Mdn = 9.75, p = 0.05). The validated instrument had excellent internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.91); however, the objective knowledge subscale was low (Cronbach's α = 0.41). A good degree of reliability was found between the two time points (intraclass correlation coefficient = 0.71).

CONCLUSIONS

The EBDPQ demonstrated adequate validity and reliability among RDNs. Future research should assess construct validity, with the responsiveness and objective knowledge subscale requiring additional evaluation through an EBDP course.

Determinant factors associated with the use of evidence-based dietetics practice among registered dietitian nutritionists

AIMS

There is a lack of research assessing perceived and actual evidence-based dietetics practice knowledge among registered dietitian nutritionists. This cross-sectional research examined the association between determinant factors (i.e., education attainment) and objective knowledge (i.e., quiz items) of evidence-based dietetics practices. Other determinant factors associated with perceived knowledge and skill, attitudes, behaviours and outcomes related to evidence-based dietetics practice were also assessed. Perceived knowledge items were compared to objective knowledge items to evaluate the accuracy of self-assessed evidence-based dietetics practice knowledge among dietitians in the United States.

METHODS

A modified and adapted evidence-based practice survey was emailed to registered dietitian nutritionists in the United States via the Commission on Dietetic Registration database between November and December 2020. Analysis of variance assessed the relationship between highest degree held and actual knowledge of evidence-based dietetics practices. Multiple linear regression and ordinal logistic regression determined participant-level characteristics associated with survey subscales and survey items, respectively. Pearson's correlation coefficient evaluated the relationship between subjective and objective items.

RESULTS

Four hundred and eighty-two dietitians completed the survey. Each increase in degree type was associated with an increase in objective knowledge score (all comparisons p < 0.001). Other determinants included recency of degree completion and peer-reviewed publications. Moderate positive associations (r = 0.35, p < 0.001) were found between subjective and objective measures.

CONCLUSION

Graduate-level education, recency of degree completion and peer-reviewed publications were supportive of evidence-based dietetics practice-related outcomes. Future research should evaluate the efficacy of training, particularly among those further from their highest completed degree.

Case study research: Building the occupational therapy evidence base one case at a time

BACKGROUND

There is growing recognition in healthcare that evidence from randomised controlled trials may not be appropriate to answer the full spectrum of practice-based questions and a more pluralistic approach is needed.

AIM

To consider the use of case study research in contributing to the occupational therapy evidence base.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

A critical discussion of the current state of evidence-based practice in occupational therapy and exploration of a viable approach to case study research is used.

RESULTS

Case study research can capture the context and complexity of occupational therapy practice. Cases can then be pooled to make a substantial contribution to the evidence base.

CONCLUSIONS

Occupational therapists should consider the use of case study research to produce practice related, meaningful research. Journal editorial boards need to be mindful of the value of high-quality case study research when considering publication priorities in occupational therapy literature.

SIGNIFICANCE

Highlights a changing landscape in the literature about how best to conduct research in health and social care, particularly for complex interventions and describes a pragmatic approach to case study research for occupational therapy.

[Adherence to and influencing factors of evidence-based practice in physiotherapeutic care in Germany: a cross-sectional study]

BACKGROUND

The implementation of evidence-based practice (EBP) is a central goal in health care. As in other areas, the transfer of scientific knowledge into clinical practice is very delayed or incomplete in physiotherapy. The primary aim of the present study is to describe the adherence to EBP among physiotherapists working in Germany. The secondary goal is the exploratory analysis of selected factors influencing the implementation of EBP.

METHODS

The present exploratory analysis is based on the data of physiotherapists who participated in a cross-sectional study on the use of EBP by health care professionals (study registration no.: DRKS00013792). The participants in the online survey completed the "Evidence-based Practice Inventory", a questionnaire with five dimensions used to quantify the adherence to EBP. Univariable and multivariable regression analysis was used to examine the associations between various sociodemographic characteristics and EBP.

RESULTS

318 physiotherapists participated in the survey (age: 37±12 years; 60 % female; professional experience: 14±11 years). Approximately 70-80 % of the participants, in principle, had a positive attitude towards EBP and perceived EBP as helpful and useful in clinical practice. About 60 % of the respondents felt able to apply the principles of the EBP (e. g., acquisition, appraisal and application of external evidence). However, the data also showed that the implementation of EBP in clinical physiotherapeutic care is insufficient. For example, only 20 % of the respondents reported that their facility paid great attention to applying the principles of the EBP in decision-making, and only about a third of the respondents said that they frequently searched for or used external evidence. The strongest facilitators of EBP include the participation in scientific publications and more than one hour per week to read scientific literature at work.

CONCLUSION

In principle, physiotherapists in Germany have a positive attitude towards EBP, but currently do not adequately take into account the principles of EBP. These factors should be further analyzed and targeted through effective interventions.

Evidence-based practice by physiotherapists in UAE: Investigating behavior, attitudes, awareness, knowledge and barriers

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is an important factor determining the quality of healthcare. The field of physiotherapy is still limited by indirect access in several countries including the United Arab Emirates (UAE) which creates added pressure to justify the merit in its practitioner’s capabilities. This study explores the behavior, attitudes, awareness and knowledge towards EBP among practicing physiotherapists in the UAE. It also enquires about their perception of the barriers in the implementation of EBP. Using a questionnaire survey of 258 physiotherapists, results show that the awareness of EBP is limited to a few terms including EBP, systematic literature review, and random trials while other terms associated with scientific studies are not known well. The attitude towards EBP was found to be significantly related to the knowledge of EBP (r = 0.208) and the perception of barriers to it (r = 0.156). The EBP behavior was found positively related to its knowledge (r = 0.134) and the perception of barriers (r = 0.216). The physiotherapists prefer to use their own experience and books and research articles to apply EBP but do not consider their peers to be as worthy sources as the others. However, their attitudes towards EBP are largely positive though their perception of barriers grows with better knowledge and understanding of EBP. The barriers in the implementation of EBP are a lack of research knowledge and skills, time, support, and resources which indicate opportunities for the decision-makers to improve the adoption of EBP among these professionals. This study concluded that although physiotherapists in the UAE claim awareness about EBP, their knowledge is limited to a few key terms whereas, attention is needed to improve EBP knowledge and practice.

Barriers to the conduct and application of research among complementary and alternative medicine professions in Australia and New Zealand: A cross-sectional survey

INTRODUCTION

Despite the growing international popularity and use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), the uptake of evidence-based practice (EBP) in CAM has been slow. This cross-sectional survey aimed to further our understanding of the factors impacting EBP uptake in CAM.

METHODS

The 32-item oBSTACLES instrument was administered online using the SurveyMonkey™platform. The survey evaluated barriers to both the conduct and application of research among CAM practitioners and researchers, from multiple CAM disciplines across Australia and New Zealand. Participants were recruited via practice-based research networks, professional associations, CAM educational institutions, CAM research centres, pertinent product manufacturers and social media platforms. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics.

RESULTS

Six hundred and eighty-two CAM stakeholders responded to the survey. Barrier items were divided into two interlinked constructs, "capacity" and "culture". Capacity related to issues regarding access, competency, bias, incentives, and time, whereas culture related to values and complex systems. Under capacity, the greatest proportion of participants (>70 %) agreed that access was a barrier to the conduct and application of research, including lack of funding, institutional support, research training and collaborations. In terms of culture, the majority of participants (>60 %) agreed that values were a barrier to research conduct and application, including limited undergraduate research opportunities and diverse views of evidence.

CONCLUSION

Findings from this research suggest a multitude of barriers negatively impact the conduct and application of research in CAM. Insights gained from this research will be instrumental in developing actionable strategies aimed at mitigating the impact of these barriers to improve research engagement in CAM.

Perceived barriers to evidence-based practice in stroke management among physiotherapists in a developing country

BACKGROUND OF STUDY

Like most healthcare disciplines, the physiotherapy profession has embraced the concept of evidence-based practice (EBP) worldwide. However, there is a discrepancy between the amount of research evidence that exists and its use in clinical decision making.

AIMS

To investigate the barriers physiotherapists in Nigeria encounter in implementing EBP in stroke management.

METHODS

This was a cross-sectional survey involving consecutively recruited 170 physiotherapists (mean age = 29.92 ± 5.72 years) from conveniently sampled centres in the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria. The Practitioner and Organizational Barriers to Evidence-based Stroke Rehabilitation Questionnaire was used to collect data on EBP among the physiotherapists. Data was summarized using frequency, percentage, mean, and SD and analysed using Spearman rank order, Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests at alpha level of 0.05.

RESULTS

Insufficient time (47.6%), lack of information resources (42.9%), lack of organizational mandate (42.9%), lack of research skills (30.6%), and poor ability to critically appraise literature (29.4%) were the mostly reported barriers. Most participants had received formal training about EBP, had positive attitude and beliefs about EBP, were highly confident in their abilities to implement EBP, were aware of their roles in EBP, and were interested in acquiring and improving the skills necessary to implement EBP. There was unavailability of resources and support to promote evidence-based practice. EBP uptake was significantly facilitated by having more education on EBP, higher academic degree, less daily workload, more years of experience in stroke rehabilitation, more participation time in research and teaching, and belonging to professional association (P < .05).

CONCLUSION

Insufficient time, lack of organizational mandates, lack of research skills, poor ability to critically appraise literature and unavailability of resources and organizational support are key barriers to EBP among Nigerian physiotherapists. Nigerian physiotherapists, their regulatory board, and Government need to work in tandem to improve EBP among Nigerian physiotherapists.

Using Research within Child Welfare: Reactions to a Training Initiative

PURPOSE

Efforts to incorporate evidence-informed practice within child welfare have been increasingly adopted to promote positive outcomes for youth. We established partnerships with three child welfare agencies to develop, implement, and evaluate a training curriculum delivered to senior managers and supervisors. The training focused on the use of data from an Ontario performance measure system. Despite its mandatory use, challenges remain in the applied use of the data to organizational governance and planning.

METHOD

This pilot study examined senior managers' and supervisors' perspectives of the training using a mixed-methods design consisting of a training feedback questionnaire and post-training focus groups.

RESULTS

Results indicated that participants responded positively to the training content, delivery, and facilitators. Participants identified that it was helpful to learn about applied data and evidence-informed practice.

CONCLUSION

These findings highlight the importance of ongoing training initiatives within child welfare to promote an organizational culture supportive of evidence-informed practice.

Self-Reflection as a Support to Evidence-Based Practice: A Grounded Theory Exploration

The purpose of this study was to explore how reflective practice is experienced by occupational therapists. Thirty participants were purposefully sampled to explore reflective practice experiences using a critical reflection inquiry model as a theoretical framework. Grounded theory using a constant comparative analysis method was used to analyze interview data. Three categories emerged: triggers to reflection, depth of reflection, and actions taken. The frequency of statements compared across survey groups showed that participants with high reflection behaviors made more critical reflections, used steps of the EBP cycle, and took actions to correct practice. Results inform practice in three ways: (1) practitioner experiences were analyzed through the complete reflective practice construct, (2) findings indicated that greater depth of reflective thinking promotes EBP use and actions taken to correct practice, and (3) narrative content analysis was found to be a credible method of assessing reflection within practice narratives, suggesting it as useful for education and promoting continuing competency.

Occupational Therapists' Implementation of Evidence-Based Practice: A Cross Sectional Survey

Evidence-based practice (EBP) implementation has been associated with quality health care outcomes, yet only a small proportion of occupational therapists implement EBP. We conducted a cross-sectional survey measuring EBP implementation, skill and knowledge, self-reflection behavior, and practice demographics to clarify implementation of EBP and factors acting as supports. A random sample of occupational therapists practicing in the U.S. was invited to participate; 578 surveys were included in the final analysis. Participants implemented EBP less than 1 time over the previous 8 weeks; EBP use was highest in those with a doctorate (p = .002) and high self-reflection behavior (p = .001); EBP use was marginally higher in those with organizational support (p = .008; p = .009), time for EBP (p = .009), and access to full text articles (p = .006). Further investigation of how reflective practice and levels of doctoral education support EBP use are recommended.

The impact of a small-group educational intervention for allied health professionals to enhance evidence-based practice: mixed methods evaluation

BACKGROUND

Healthcare professionals are recommended to use evidence-based practice (EBP) principles to update and improve clinical practice. Well-designed educational initiatives, together with practice and feedback opportunities can improve individuals' EBP knowledge, skills and attitudes.

METHODS

A concurrent mixed methods assessment was designed to evaluate the effectiveness and feasibility of four monthly workshops on allied health professionals' knowledge, skills, self-efficacy and behaviour. In between workshops, professionals were encouraged to practice and integrate EBP learnings with colleagues in their workplace. Participants completed three pre and post intervention assessments: Evidence-based Practice Confidence Scale; adapted Fresno test; and an adapted EBP Implementation Scale. A purpose designed satisfaction questionnaire was completed immediately after the educational intervention and follow up focus groups were conducted after 3 months. Mean change in assessment data was quantitatively assessed and comments from the clinician satisfaction questionnaire and focus groups were thematically analysed and interpreted together with quantitative data using the Classification Rubric for EBP Assessment tools in Education (CREATE).

RESULTS

Sixteen allied health professionals participated in the EBP workshops and completed all baseline and post intervention assessments. Seven clinicians participated in follow up focus groups. All clinicians reported a positive reaction to the learning experience, preferring short monthly workshops to a full day session. They self-reported improvements in self-efficacy (mean change 15 p < 0.001) and implementing EBP behaviours (mean change 7, p < 0.001) from pre- to post-intervention. Although the positive change in EBP knowledge measured by the adapted Fresno test was not statistically significant (mean change 10, p = 0.21), clinicians described examples of improved knowledge and skills across all five key steps of EBP during the focus groups. A further, post hoc analysis of individual questions in the two self-reported scales indicated consistent improvement across key EBP knowledge and skills.

CONCLUSIONS

A tailored small group EBP education intervention can enhance AHPs' self-efficacy to develop answerable questions, search the literature, critically appraise, apply and evaluate research evidence. Through practicing these behaviours and sharing new learning with their peers, allied health professionals can enhance their capability and motivation to use research evidence to potentially improve clinical practice.

Mapping allied health evidence-based practice: providing a basis for organisational realignment

Objective Ahead of the convergence of two major paediatric services, we examined evidence-based practice (EBP) self-efficacy, outcome expectancy, knowledge and use among allied health (AH) staff in two major Queensland (Qld) paediatric services. This was to determine whether any differences existed based on organisational affiliation, profession and any previous training to inform a strategy to enhance AH EBP within the new organisational setting. Methods All AH staff from the two Brisbane (Qld) tertiary paediatric hospitals were invited to participate in the survey. Using a cross-sectional design, EBP self-efficacy, outcome expectancy, knowledge and use, as well as previous EBP training, were assessed with an online survey. Background demographic information obtained included professional discipline and hospital. Results One hundred and thirty-eight health practitioners completed the survey (37% response rate). Most practitioners had accessed EBP training. Mean scores for EBP attitudes (self-efficacy and outcome expectancy) and knowledge were higher than for EBP use scores. Greater variation was observed across professional disciplines than organisations. Training impacted positively on EBP measures but explained a small proportion of total variance in regression models. Conclusions The results underscore the need to provide organisational supports to AH staff for EBP implementation. Strategies other than training are required to maximally enhance EBP attitudes. The new organisational structure provides an opportunity for this cultural shift to occur. What is known about the topic? Factors affecting the EBP capabilities of AH professionals are complex and are associated with institutional culture and barriers, personal self-belief and individual experience and ability, and can exist at clinician, team and organisational levels. What does this paper add? The data from the present study confirm the emerging literature examining various AH professional groups’ EBP behaviours and ratings with a large and diverse cohort from a variety of backgrounds and across organisations. Respondents possessed a positive attitude towards EBP and moderate EBP knowledge, with these scores exceeding EBP use scores. Organisational affiliation had little impact on EBP measures. What are the implications for practitioners? Although the results of the present study highlight the importance of training in literature searching, EBP and research design and/or analysis, the findings also indicated that strategies other than training are required to maximally enhance EBP attitudes and use by AH staff. To harness the positive approach AH staff have to EBP, strategies such as incorporation of EBP principles and plans in departmental meetings and strategic reviews, as well as strengthening organisational governance in relation to EBP and research, must be developed within the new organisational structure and context; a powerful, but often overlooked, enabler of EBP.

A multisample model validation of the evidence-based practice questionnaire

Evidence-based practice may be implemented more successfully if the barriers to its implementation have been previously identified. Many of the available instruments to measure these barriers have been validated in single samples or without confirmatory analyses. The objective of the study was to contrast the goodness of fit of two measurement models (24 items and 19 items) for the Spanish version of the Evidence-Based Practice Questionnaire (EBPQ) in a sample of 1,673 full-time registered nurses in 10 hospitals and 57 primary health care centers in the Spanish Public Health Service. The 19-item model performed better in all four subsamples. A hypothesis of strict invariance, with equal factor loadings, intercepts, and error variance in all contexts in which it was evaluated, was supported. Goodness-of-fit indices provided strong evidence of good fit according to standard cut-off criteria in a multisample confirmatory factor analysis.

The reach, transferability, and impact of the Evidence-Based Practice Questionnaire: a methodological and narrative literature review

BACKGROUND

Since the 1990s, evidence-based practice (EBP) has been increasingly emphasized in nursing, but its implementation is still sometimes met with confusion and resistance. Therefore, identifying factors affecting its implementation is crucial. The Evidence-Based Practice Questionnaire (EBPQ) was published in 2006, addressing a need for a robust measure of nurses' practice of, attitudes toward, and knowledge of EBP. The growing body of professionals using the questionnaire means that a review of its reach, transferability, and impact is timely.

AIMS

The aims of this review were threefold: (a) identify the situations in which the EBPQ has been used in both published and unpublished research internationally (Reach); (b) collate the psychometric properties of the EBPQ from the research reviewed (Transferability); and (c) discuss the study's findings to shed new light on issues facing professionals in implementing EBP, and possible future directions for research (Impact).

METHODS

Literature searches on studies reported between 2006 and July 2012 inclusive were conducted using the terms "Evidence-Based Practice Questionnaire" and "EBPQ." Green, Johnson and Adams's guidelines for completing narrative literature reviews and Terwee et al.'s framework for reporting questionnaires' psychometric properties were adopted to ensure rigor.

FINDINGS

Twenty-seven studies were reviewed in which the EBPQ had been translated into five different languages and used with a variety of professional groups. The questionnaire demonstrated convergent and discriminant validity and good internal reliability. Research adopting the questionnaire identified a range of variables related to EBP implementation, including qualification route and job role.

LINKING EVIDENCE TO ACTION

Assessment of organizational culture and workforce training needs prior to developing educational interventions is crucial. The EBPQ has the potential to provide further understanding of these and other issues faced by professionals when implementing EBP.
