Intracranial Rosai‑Dorfman disease complicated by mucosa‑associated lymphoid tissue: A case report

Intracranial Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) is a rare, self-limiting histiocytic disease of unknown etiology. Extranodal marginal zone lymphoma of the mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT lymphoma) is also rare and intracranial RDD complicated by MALT lymphoma is even rarer. The present study reports a case of a 55-year-old female who was admitted to The Second Affiliated Hospital of Jiaxing University (Jiaxing, China) with headache for half a month and ptosis of the right eyelid for 4 days. Computerised tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed a right parasellar tumor and, subsequently, subtotal resection of the tumor was performed. Postoperative pathology revealed intracranial RDD complicated by MALT lymphoma. The patient received chemotherapy after surgery and achieved good therapeutic effects. After 12 months of follow-up, the residual tumor disappeared and the ptosis prominently improved. To the to the best of the authors' knowledge, the present case is the first reported case of an adult intracranial RDD complicated by MALT lymphoma.

Primary pituitary stalk mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma: a case report and literature review

BACKGROUND

Primary extranodal mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma in the sellar region is a rare indolent B-cell lymphoma.

CASE PRESENTATION

A newly diagnosed patient with MALT lymphoma originating from the pituitary stalk is reported. A space-occupying lesion in the sellar region was found in a 24 year-old man who had no clinical symptoms except for those relating to a sex hormone disorder (rising estrogen and falling androgen) identified during a pre-employment physical examination. MALT lymphoma was diagnosed pathologically. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy were proposed after surgery. However, the patient selected androgen replacement therapy only rather than chemoradiotherapy. Over the next 3 months, no visual disturbance, headache, cranial nerve abnormality, or other symptoms occurred.

CONCLUSION

Primary sellar region MALT lymphoma is an extremely rare disease. The differential diagnosis of sellar and parasellar masses should include primary sellar region MALT lymphoma. Early detection and treatment of this lymphoma can effectively improve the prognosis.

Intraparenchymal Mucosa-Associated Lymphoid Tissue Lymphoma: A Case Report

Marginal zone B-cell lymphoma (MZBCL) of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) type, which is primary to the central nervous system (CNS), is a rare lesion, with those originating within the parenchyma even more so. We present the case of a 64-year-old male with weakness in the left hand and focal motor seizures of his arm, who was found to have a right frontal intraparenchymal lesion. Following resection, histopathological and immunohistochemical evaluations were completed, leading to a diagnosis of a primary CNS MZBCL of MALT type in the context of a negative workup of systemic disease. Neuroimaging, histopathological, and immunohistochemical findings, as well as a comprehensive literature review of similar cases, are discussed.
