Abstract
One of the Standards of Psychosocial Care for Children with Cancer and their Families recommends that all youth with cancer and their family members have access to psychotherapeutic interventions and support throughout the cancer trajectory. This study was created to identify the psychosocial interventions and services provided to children with cancer and their family members, to ascertain whether there are differences in interventions provided by age of the patient and stage of treatment, and to learn about barriers to psychosocial service provision. An online survey was disseminated to psychosocial providers through the listservs of national and international professional organizations. The majority of the 242 respondents were either psychologists (39.3%) or social workers (26.9%) and 79.7% worked in the United States. The intervention offered most often to pediatric patients, caregivers, and siblings, at every stage of treatment, was psychoeducation (41.7–48.8%). Evidence-based interventions, including cognitive behavioral therapy (56.6%) and mindfulness-based interventions (57.9%) were reported to be frequently used with patients. Interventions designed specifically for the pediatric oncology population were not commonly endorsed. Psychosocial providers reported quality of care would be improved by additional staff, better communication/collaboration with medical team members and increased community-based resources. Future research should focus on improving accessibility to population-specific evidenced-based interventions and translating science to practice.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this paper was to conduct a systematic review and meta-ethnography of qualitative studies examining the experiences of parents adjusting to life after the solid organ transplant (SOT) of their child. METHODS A systematic review of the literature was conducted to identify qualitative studies that examined this topic. The search retrieved 4,964 studies to review against inclusion criteria. A total of 21 studies were included in the meta-ethnography. A reciprocal translation was conducted to compare themes identified in each study. A line of argument synthesis was then conducted in order to integrate the similarities and differences between all of the studies into a new interpretative context. RESULTS The synthesis identified four themes: (a) adjusting to life after transplant, (b) factors that facilitate adjustment, (c) factors that disrupt adjustment, and (d) changes caused by transplant. As a result of the synthesis, a new interpretation of parents' experiences of adjusting to life after the SOT of their child was constructed. A summary figure is presented. CONCLUSION This review found that while parents may struggle to adapt to life post-transplant and the demands of caring for their child, the experience can also result in the development of new skills, a new appreciation for life, and viewing the self in a more positive manner. A better understanding of parental experiences will promote the development of more effective interventions for the adjustment of parents and families to post-transplant life.

Abstract
Many children with cancer and their parents suffer from distress, fatigue, and relational difficulties. Hypnosis is often used to decrease children's procedure-related pain and distress in pediatric oncology and to improve the well-being of adults with cancer. This article describes a pilot study assessing the acceptability and feasibility of a group intervention combining self-care and hypnosis for children with cancer and their parents, and a quasi-experimental protocol aimed at assessing the efficacy of this intervention to improve quality of life, distress, fatigue, and coping. The pilot study showed that the intervention was feasible and perceived positively. Future research is needed to test the efficacy of group interventions combining self-care and hypnosis to improve quality of life for children with cancer and their families.

Abstract
When a child is diagnosed with cancer, the entire family is affected by the demands of the illness and its treatment. This study aimed to provide a more nuanced understanding of the experience of parents of children with cancer when participating in therapeutic recreation programs (such as summer camp) and to address the specific knowledge gap of the role that camp may play in providing social support for these families. In particular, this study aimed to enroll mothers and fathers, as the voice of fathers has previously been missing in research about cancer camps. METHOD Qualitative methods were used to better understand the experiences of parents (n = 85) attending Camp Trillium's family program between June 26th and August 31st of 2012. Data obtained were analyzed using a grounded theory approach and thus coded and then grouped using thematic analysis. Parents reported that they experienced valuable peer interaction and experienced an increase in their perceived social support. They also stated that this support was sustained outside of the camp experience. Parents highlighted the important aspects of camp as: the empowering setting, time to escape the treatment routine, and rebuild familial relationships. From the qualitative interviews, five distinct themes were explicated: (a) empowering setting, (b) restoring family relationships, (c) valuable peer interactions, (d) information sharing, and (e) group tensions. In addition to respite and recreational opportunities, camp provides access to an environment and community that has the ability to provide sustained and empowering support for parents dealing with childhood cancer, notably for fathers.

Abstract
This study explored impacts of an online support network for fathers of a child with a brain tumor. Evaluation comprised pre/post-intervention questionnaires, content analysis of online network postings, and post-intervention qualitative interviews. Findings suggest that this intervention was beneficial to fathers. Positive effects on paternal coping were demonstrated, as were opportunities to grapple with difficult issues related to having a child with a brain tumor. Fathers recommended a combined resource of online and face-to-support, including the development of a support network with a larger participant base. Implications for practice are examined.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Children with food allergy and their parents may experience substantial stress related to the risk of serious reactions and the demands of allergy management. OBJECTIVE To evaluate a group intervention for children with food allergy and their parents designed to increase parent-perceived competence in coping with food allergy and to decrease the parent-perceived burden associated with food allergy. METHODS Sixty-one children aged 5 to 7 years with food allergy and their parents attended 1 of 4 half-day workshops, with parent and child groups run concurrently. Parents completed self-report measures of perceived competence in coping with food allergy at 3 time points: preworkshop (within 8 weeks of the intervention), postworkshop (immediately after the intervention), and follow-up (4-8 weeks after the intervention). Parents completed a measure of burden associated with food allergy at preworkshop and follow-up. Parents and children also completed evaluations of the study intervention. RESULTS Parent-perceived competence in coping with food allergy increased significantly from preworkshop to postworkshop and follow-up, and parent-perceived burden associated with food allergy decreased from preworkshop to follow-up. Parent and child evaluations of the workshop were favorable. CONCLUSIONS These findings provide preliminary support for the effectiveness and feasibility of a group intervention for children with food allergy and their parents and suggest the importance of controlled evaluations of group interventions in this population in the future.

Abstract
The value of parent-to-parent support has been noted in research with parents of children who have a range of special needs and chronic medical conditions, however, less is known about the benefit of such mentorship for parents caring for seriously ill and dying children. Findings from a qualitative study with mothers of seriously ill children, including those whose children had died, provided rich and detailed information about the personal and practical resources they received from other parents. Personal recommendations to parents by parents included the value of seeking out mentorship and appreciating the small things in life, while practical suggestions encompassed encouraging parents to become informed and to advocate for their children's best interests. Mothers also identified professionals with end-of-life training as instrumental agents of support.
