Abstract
The urinary bladder may be involved by a variety of secondary tumors that originate from other organs. Bladder secondary tumors are rare and may be mistaken as bladder primary tumors because of their overlapping morphologic features. To avoid the diagnostic pitfalls, we analyzed the clinicopathologic features of bladder secondary tumors in a large cohort of patients. Our patient cohort consisted of 45 females and 38 males with a mean age of 58.7 ± 15.4 years (range 10-87 years). The tumors involved the bladder via direct extension from adjacent organs (n = 42) and distant metastasis (n = 41). In females, the majority of secondary tumors originated from the gynecologic tract (n = 25), and other common origins included the colon/rectum (n = 5) and breast (n = 4). In males, the most common origin was the prostate (n = 18), followed by the colon/rectum (n = 4) and kidney (n = 3). 75.9% of the secondary tumors were adenocarcinoma (n = 63), and other common tumor types included sarcoma (n = 6), squamous cell carcinoma (n = 5), melanoma (n = 4), and neuroendocrine carcinoma (n = 3). 67.5% of patients (n = 56) died of the disease with a median overall survival of 23 months from the time of secondary involvement of the bladder. Patients with secondary tumors via direct extension had a median survival time of 20 months, which was not significantly different from that for patients with secondary involvement via distant metastasis (24 months) (p = 0.83). Median survival in cases with prostate primary was 20 months as compared to 23 months for all other tumor types (p = 0.68). The majority of secondary tumors are composed of adenocarcinoma, which highlights the importance of differentiating primary from secondary involvement in bladder adenocarcinoma. Regardless of the origin, bladder secondary tumors are associated with a poor prognosis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to investigate the expression of Ki-67/p16 in urothelial cells in cytological material. MATERIALS AND METHODS There were 142 urines including normal controls, anonymous rest urine, controls after treatment for urothelial carcinoma (UC) and newly diagnosed UC. Immunocytochemistry for ki-67/p16 dual staining kit was performed on all specimens. RESULTS Eight high-grade UC and six anonymous specimens showed dual positivity. None of the low-grade UC or the control specimens after treated UC showed dual staining. Fifteen of 84 (17.8%) symptomatic cases were negative for both markers, and 59/84 (70.2%) showed positivity for both but not dual staining. Twenty-seven of 84 cases were positive for either Ki-67 (n = 22) or p16 (n = 5). Normal controls and benign specimens were negative for p16. CONCLUSIONS Co-expression of p16/Ki-67 in the same cells was found in 16.6% of the cases. All were high grade, and co-expression seems to have limited practical impact as an additional marker in urine cytology. Any positivity for p16 alone strongly indicates malignancy. Negative p16 accompanied by a positive Ki-67 rate at 5% or more could be considered as an additional marker for further clinical follow-up. Both markers, co-expressed and separate, can give additional information in follow-up patients after treatment for UC.

Abstract
p16INK4a (p16) is a key molecule in bladder tumor (BT) development. We previously reported that a p16 antitumor peptide inhibited the growth of subcutaneous BT grafts in mice through restoration of p16 function using a Wr-T peptide transporter system. In the present study, the efficacy of mouse p16 peptide administration in a mouse lung metastasis model for BT and also the toxicity of peptides by cardiac peptide injection were evaluated. Mouse lung metastases were developed by tail vein injection of a p16-deficient MBT-2 cell line. Six-week-old C3H/He female mice were divided into three groups: A control group (n=12) receiving no treatment; a group treated once on the 3rd experimental day (n=12); and a group treated three times on the 3rd, 5th and 7th experimental days (n=10) with an injection of a mixture of 80 nmol mouse p16 peptide and 50 nmol Wr-T into the tail vein. At the 14th experimental day, the lung metastases were histologically evaluated. Lung metastases were observed in 100% (12/12), 41.7% (5/12) and 30% (3/10) of the aforementioned three groups, respectively. The number and area of metastatic lung tumors were significantly different between control and treatment groups (control vs. triple treatment group for the number and area, P=0.0029 and P=0.0296, respectively). Immunohistochemistry demonstrated that phosphorylated retinoblastoma (Rb) protein was decreased in lung tumors of the treatment groups, compared with the control group. The toxicity of p16 peptide transduction was evaluated by using low-dose treatment (three dosages) and high-dose treatment (two dosages) on three male and three female C3H/He mice in early and late experimental phases. In low and high dose groups, no notable change was determined in body weight or blood analyses in early or late phases following mouse p16 peptide administration. In addition, no notable change was observed histologically in bone marrow of treatment groups. To conclude, systemic p16 peptide administration decreased lung tumor development in a mouse metastatic BT model without severe adverse events, as assessed by blood analyses and histological evaluation.

Abstract
SPEC P16/CEN3/7/17 Probe fluorescence-in-situ-hybridization (FISH) has become the most sensitive method in indentifying the urothelial tumors and loss of P16 has often been identified in low-grade urothelial lesions; however, little is known about the significations of other P16 genetic status (normal and amplification) in bladder cancer.We detected P16 gene status by FISH in 259 urine samples and divided these samples into 3 groups: 1, normal P16; 2, loss of P16; and 3, amplified P16. Meanwhile, p16 protein expression was measured by immunocytochemistry and we characterized the clinicopathologic features of cases with P16 gene status.Loss of P16 occurred in 26.2%, P16 amplification occurred in 41.3% and P16 gene normal occurred in 32.4% of all cases. P16 genetic status was significantly associated with tumor grade and primary tumor status (P = .008 and .017), but not with pathological tumor stage, overall survival, and p16 protein expression. However, P16 gene amplification accompanied protein high-expression has shorter overall survival compared with the overall patients (P = .023), and P16 gene loss accompanied loss of protein also had the tendency to predict bad prognosis (P = .067).Studies show that the genetic status of P16 has a close relation with the stages of bladder cancer. Loss of P16 is associated with low-grade urothelial malignancy while amplified P16 donotes high-grade. Neither P16 gene status nor p16 protein expression alone is an independent predictor of urothelial bladder carcinoma, but combine gene and protein status together providing useful information on the clinical outcome of these patients.

Abstract
CONTEXT The classification of flat non-neoplastic urothelial lesions has been evolved through the years in the attempt to better define a spectrum of morphologic entities with somewhat overlapping features. Differentiating these lesions is important because of differences in patient management and clinical outcome. Materials and methods and objective: A systematic review of the literature has been carried out in order to (1) assess the most striking clinical features of each lesion and (2) identify those morphological traits and immunophenotypical markers which may aid in the differential diagnosis. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION Our results point out the importance of a proper definition of flat non-neoplastic urothelial lesions in order to predict clinical behaviour and allow tailored patient management; therefore, we attempted to construct a novel and "easy to use" algorithm for a clear, standardized and evidence-based pathological diagnosis.

Abstract
Although rare, secondary tumors of the bladder can present a diagnostic dilemma to pathologists considering a differential diagnosis of primary bladder cancer. We investigated the clinicopathologic and imaging characteristics of metastatic tumors to the bladder. We retrospectively reviewed the surgical pathology databases from 2 sites from 2013 to 2016, identifying 66 cases of secondary bladder tumors. Clinical, pathologic, and imaging findings were reviewed. Mean age at diagnosis was 63 years (range = 25-87). Females had a significantly higher proportion (44/66, 66.7%) of secondary bladder tumors compared with males (22/66, 33.3%; P = .007). In total, 56/66 (84.8%) patients had a clinical history of an in situ or invasive malignancy in another organ, and 54/66 (81.8%) patients had imaging supporting a metastatic tumor. Only 2/66 (3.0%) patients had a prior history of urothelial carcinoma. In total, 4/66 (6.1%) cases (all females) were originally misdiagnosed as primary bladder malignancies and were corrected after clinicoradiologic correlation. Overall, colorectal origin was most common (15/66, 22.7%), followed by cervical and ovarian primaries (10/66, 15.2% each). Cervical and ovarian origins predominated in the female cohort (10/44, 22.7% each), followed by endometrial (8/44, 18.2%). Colorectal and prostate primaries were the most common among males (10/22, 45.5%, and 7/22, 31.8%, respectively). Secondary bladder tumors can mimic urothelial carcinomas. In our cohort, gynecological, colorectal, and prostatic origins were most common. Clinical history, imaging, and immunohistochemical studies can be useful in avoiding this diagnostic pitfall.

Abstract
The epithelial membrane protein genes 1, 2, and 3 (EMP1, EMP2, and EMP3) belong to the peripheral myelin protein 22-kDa (PMP22) gene family, which consists of at least seven members: PMP22, EMP1, EMP2, EMP3, PERP, brain cell membrane protein 1, and MP20. This review addresses the structural and functional features of EMPs, detailing their tissue distribution and functions in the human body, their expression pattern in a variety of tumors, and highlighting the underlying mechanisms involved in carcinogenesis. The implications in cancer biology, patient prognosis prediction, and potential application in disease therapy are discussed. For example, EMP1 was reported to be a biomarker of gefitinib resistance in lung cancer and contributes to prednisolone resistance in acute lymphoblastic leukemia patients. EMP2 functions as an oncogene in human endometrial and ovarian cancers; however, characteristics of EMP2 in urothelial cancer fulfill the criteria of a suppressor gene. Of particular interest, EMP3 overexpression in breast cancer is significantly related to strong HER-2 expression. Co-expression of HER-2 and EMP3 is the most important indicator of progression-free and metastasis-free survival for patients with urothelial carcinoma of the upper urinary tract. Altogether, discovery of pharmacological inhibitors and/or regulators of EMP protein activity could open novel strategies for enhanced therapy against EMP-mediated human diseases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Overexpression of p16INK4a has been identified in urothelial malignancies both cytologically and histologically. In addition, p16/Ki-67 dual labeling has been shown to identify high-grade urothelial cancer cells and some progression cases within a 12-month delay. The Paris System for Reporting Urinary Cytology (TPS) was published in late 2015. Its aim is to clarify the criteria for diagnosing or, conversely, excluding high-grade urothelial carcinoma (HGUC). METHODS Dual labeling was performed on archived ThinPrep-based Papanicolaou slides. A total of 208 samples (negative for high-grade urothelial carcinoma [NHGUC], 59; consistent with low-grade urothelial neoplasia [LGUN], 24; atypical urothelial cells [AUC], 15; and suspicious for or showing HGUC, 110) were analyzed for p16/Ki-67 after reclassification according to TPS. We assessed the oncologic status of the patients with cystoscopy, urinary cytology, histology, and prolonged 36-month follow-up data. RESULTS The sensitivity of p16/Ki-67 for life-threatening lesions was not different from that of urinary cytology (82.8% vs 83.6%; P = 1). However, among patients with samples classified as NHGUC and AUC, disease-free survival was significantly shorter for dual-labeled cases versus cases with negative dual labeling (P < .0001). The same tendency was observed in patients with histologically proven LGUN (P < .0001). As for specificity in patients with negative cystoscopy and cytology combined, prolonged follow-up showed 90% overall survival at 24 months. CONCLUSIONS A long-term evaluation of p16/Ki-67 dual labeling may identify HGUC and progression in cases with negative/low-grade urinary cytology results, and there are potential implications for the clinical management of patients after the conservative treatment of non-muscle-invasive urothelial carcinoma. Abstract
BACKGROUND p16(INK4a) Is overexpressed in almost all precancerous and carcinomatous lesions of the uterine cervix, secondary to interference between high-risk human papillomaviruses (hr-HPVs) and the retinoblastoma gene product. Overexpression of p16(INK4a) has also been identified in patients with high-grade urothelial lesions, both cytologically and histologically. However, the etiological role of HPV has not been documented except in inverted papillomas, low-grade bladder tumors, and younger patients. We therefore attempted to verify if HPV DNA was detectable in p16(INK4a) -positive urothelial tumors. METHODS A total of 90 urinary cytology samples (33 negative/low-grade cases and 57 high-grade proliferations) were analyzed for p16(INK4a) and HPV DNA. HPV genotyping was performed by polymerase chain reaction using a low-density DNA microarray enabling the detection of 35 HPVs. A reasoned approach combining tissue genotyping and in situ hybridization (ISH) for hr-HPVs was used in patients with urinary HPV. RESULTS Low-risk HPV (HPV-84) and hr-HPVs (HPV-16, -31, and -70) were detected. The prevalence of hr-HPVs in the urine was low: 5 of 82 patients (6.1%) and only 4 of 50 patients (8.0%) with high-grade urothelial malignancy. p16(INK4a) overexpression was noted in 49 high-grade samples (85.9%). In patients with p16(INK4a) -positive tumor cells and hr-HPV in the urine, HPV genotyping and ISH for hr-HPVs were negative in matched tissue sections. CONCLUSIONS Our study shows a low prevalence of hr-HPVs in the urine of patients with high-grade urothelial malignancy. In those, p16(INK4a) overexpression occurs in the absence of demonstrable HPV DNA in the tissue sections, contrary to what is noted in gynecopathology.

Abstract
A majority of patients with bladder cancer present with superficial disease and subsequently, some patients show progression to muscle invasive or metastatic disease. Bladder cancer has a complex genetic process and identification of the genetic alterations which occur during progression may lead to the understanding of the nature of the disease and provide the possibility of early treatment. The aim of the present study was to compare the structural and numerical chromosomal differences and changes in the p16 and p53 genes between low-grade (LG) and high-grade (HG) bladder cancer (BC) using cytogenetic and molecular cytogenetic methods. Between March 2009 and March 2010, cytogenetic analyses were carried out on tumor and blood samples in 34 patients with transitional cell type BC, and on blood samples of 34 healthy patients as a control group. Fluorescence in situ hybridization probes for the p16 and p53 genes were also used to screen the alterations in these genes in 32 patients with BC. The patients were divided into two groups (LG and HG) and the findings were compared. A total of 11 (32.3%) patients exhibited LGBC, 22 (64.7%) exhibited HGBC and one (3%) patient exhibited carcinoma in situ. There were no differences between the LGBC and HGBC groups according to the number of chromosomal aberrations (P=0.714); however, differences between alterations of the p16 and p53 genes were significant (P=0.002 and P=0.039). Almost all structural abnormalities were found to be located to the 1q21, 1q32, 3p21 and 5q31 regions in patients with HG tumors. In conclusion, the p16 and p53 genes were altered more prominently in patients with HG tumors compared with LG tumors. The structural abnormalities in the 1q21, 1q32, 3p21 and 5q31 regions were observed more frequently in patients with HG tumors. These regions may play significant roles in the progression of BC, but further studies are required to find candidate genes for a panel of BC.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Co-expression of p16INK4a protein and Ki-67 (p16/Ki-67) is noted in almost all high-grade urothelial lesions. However, the aetiological role or, conversely, the absence of causative effect of high-risk human papillomaviruses (hr-HPVs) has not been documented. The purpose of this study is to evaluate HPV DNA in p16/Ki-67-positive, high-grade urothelial tumour cells. METHODS Fifty-seven urine samples collected from 50 patients, including 55 histologically proven high-grade proliferations and two cases with clinical evidence of malignancy, were analysed for p16/Ki-67. Immunolabelling was performed in destained Papanicolaou-stained slides after ThinPrep(®) processing. HPV genotyping was performed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using a DNA microarray for 35 HPV types. Confirmation of the presence (or absence) of HPV in tissue samples was verified using a reasoned approach combining PCR and in situ hybridization (ISH) for hr-HPVs. RESULTS Co-expression of p16/Ki-67 was noted in 43 of 57 (75.4%) cases. In these, hr-HPVs 16, 31 and 70, and low risk HPV 84, were detected in the urine in four patients (8%). Upregulation of p16INK4a protein was confirmed on bladder biopsy or transurethral resection specimens, but PCR and ISH for hr-HPVs were both negative on the tissue sections. CONCLUSION Our results show a low prevalence of HPV infection in the urinary tract of patients with p16/Ki-67-positive urothelial malignancy. The study confirms that the deregulated cell cycle, as demonstrated by p16/Ki-67 dual labelling, is independent of the oncogenic action of hr-HPVs in high-grade urothelial proliferations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Taking into consideration the known overexpression of p16(INK4a) in histologically demonstrated high-grade urothelial malignancies, the objective of the current study was to examine the value of p16(INK4a) overexpression and of p16/Ki-67 dual labeling versus urinary cytology in the detection of urothelial lesions. METHODS Immunolabeling was performed on demounted and destained Papanicolaou slides after liquid-based ThinPrep processing. Actual diagnoses were ascertained by cystoscopy controls and histopathology. Negative cases, papillary urothelial neoplasia of low malignant potential/low-grade tumor, and high-grade lesions were considered separately. RESULTS A total of 216 urine samples were collected from new patients with symptoms who were referred for cystoscopy (92 cases) or patients who were being followed after conservative treatment for lesions involving the bladder (117 cases) or the upper urinary tract (7 cases). p16(INK4a) positivity was assessed in 171 of the 216 cases (79.2%) and in 93 of 99 high-grade cases with positive cytology (93.9%). Coexpression of p16/Ki-67 in the same cells was observed in 119 of 216 cases (55.1%) and was noted in 18 of 51 cases of negative or papillary urothelial neoplasia of low malignant potential/low-grade tumor (35.3%) and in 80 of 101 high-grade tumors (79.2%) (P < .0001). Thirteen of 14 high-grade intraurothelial lesions (92.8%) were dual labeled. When high-grade tumors, disease progression (increased grade, muscle infiltration, and extension into the upper urinary tract), and cancer-related death were grouped together as an endpoint, dual labeling demonstrated a sensitivity that was slightly higher than that of urinary cytology (82.5% vs 80.8%; P = .8), with 94.9% overall specificity. CONCLUSIONS When applied to the search for high-grade and aggressive disease, p16/Ki-67 dual labeling and urinary cytology appear to demonstrate comparable performance.

Abstract
Bladder cancer is associated with high recurrence and mortality rates. These tumors show vast heterogeneity reflected by diverse morphologic manifestations and various molecular alterations associated with these disease phenotypes. Biomarkers that prospectively evaluate disease aggressiveness, progression risk, probability of recurrence and overall prognosis would improve patient care. Integration of molecular markers with conventional pathologic staging of bladder cancers may refine clinical decision making for the selection of adjuvant and salvage therapy. In the past decade, numerous bladder cancer biomarkers have been identified, including various tumor suppressor genes, oncogenes, growth factors, growth factor receptors, hormone receptors, proliferation and apoptosis markers, cell adhesion molecules, stromal factors, and oncoproteins. Recognition of two distinct pathways for urothelial carcinogenesis represents a major advance in the understanding and management of this disease. Nomograms for combining results from multiple biomarkers have been proposed to increase the accuracy of clinical predictions. The scope of this review is to summarize the major biomarker findings that may have translational and clinical implications.

Abstract
p16(INK4a) (p16), a key molecule in bladder tumor development, inhibits the activities of cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) and maintains the retinoblastoma protein (pRb) in its active hypophosphorylated state. Following the finding that the p16 antitumor peptide dramatically inhibits the growth of aggressive leukemia/lymphoma through the restoration of p16 function using the Wr-T peptide transporter system, in this study, we developed a systemic therapy using mouse‑p16 peptide (m‑p16) in subcutaneous p16‑null mouse bladder tumors. In vitro analysis showed that the growth of p16‑null bladder tumor cells and the hyperphosphorylation of their pRbs were inhibited by p16 transduction in a concentration‑dependent manner. In an animal model, p16‑null MBT‑2 cells were injected subcutaneously into KSN/SKC nude mice. The systemic delivery of the m‑p16 peptide using Wr‑T by cardiac injection significantly inhibited the growth of solid MBT‑2 tumors compared with the control phosphate‑buffered saline (PBS) injection. Histological examination by TUNEL staining revealed that apoptosis was increased and pRb phosphorylation was inhibited. Thus, the systemic peptide delivery of p16 restores the hypophosphorylation of pRb and may be a useful tool for the treatment of bladder tumors.

Abstract
We aimed to identify whether there is any correlation between chromosomal/genetic changes, nuclear morphology and the histological grade of urothelial carcinomas of the urinary bladder. Morphometry and multicolour fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH) techniques were applied to 250 cells in five low-grade cases and 350 cells in seven high-grade cases of urothelial carcinoma. Compared with low-grade carcinomas, most high-grade cases showed larger and more variable nuclear size, more frequent polysomy of centromere enumeration probes (CEPs) 3, 7 and 17, and the loss of the 9p21 locus. The number of CEP signals in cells was increased as the nuclear area of the cells became larger. Cells with gains in two or more types of CEP had significantly larger nuclei than cells with normal FISH signal patterns. In conclusion, the present study indicates that there was a correlation between nuclear morphology and chromosomal/genetic changes which were related to histological grading. Thus, we show that differences in the chromosomal/genetic aberrations present in low- and high-grade tumours can affect not only nuclear morphology but also the histopathological and clinical behaviour of urothelial carcinomas.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION We previously identified common differentially expressed (DE) genes in bladder cancer (BC). In the present study we analyzed in depth, the expression of several groups of these DE genes. MATERIALS AND METHODS Samples from 30 human BCs and their adjacent normal tissues were analyzed by whole genome cDNA microarrays, qRT-PCR and Western blotting. Our attention was focused on cell-cycle control and DNA damage repair genes, genes related to apoptosis, signal transduction, angiogenesis, as well as cellular proliferation, invasion and metastasis. Four publicly available GEO Datasets were further analyzed, and the expression data of the genes of interest (GOIs) were compared to those of the present study. The relationship among the GOI was also investigated. GO and KEGG molecular pathway analysis was performed to identify possible enrichment of genes with specific biological themes. RESULTS Unsupervised cluster analysis of DNA microarray data revealed a clear distinction in BC vs. control samples and low vs. high grade tumors. Genes with at least 2-fold differential expression in BC vs. controls, as well as in non-muscle invasive vs. muscle invasive tumors and in low vs. high grade tumors, were identified and ranked. Specific attention was paid to the changes in osteopontin (OPN, SPP1) expression, due to its multiple biological functions. Similarly, genes exhibiting equal or low expression in BC vs. the controls were scored. Significant pair-wise correlations in gene expression were scored. GO analysis revealed the multi-facet character of the GOIs, since they participate in a variety of mechanisms, including cell proliferation, cell death, metabolism, cell shape, and cytoskeletal re-organization. KEGG analysis revealed that the most significant pathway was that of Bladder Cancer (p = 1.5×10(-31)). CONCLUSIONS The present work adds to the current knowledge on molecular signature identification of BC. Such works should progress in order to gain more insight into disease molecular mechanisms.

Abstract
A plasmacytoid variant of urothelial carcinoma has been recently recognized in the World Health Organization classification system. This is characterized by a discohesive growth of plasmacytoid cells with eccentric nuclei, extending in the bladder wall and often in the perivesical adipose tissue. Herein, we report the clinicopathologic, immunohistochemical, ultrastructural, and molecular features of a series of plasmacytoid urothelial carcinoma of the urinary bladder. Four bladder carcinomas characterized by epithelial cells with morphologic appearance resembling plasma cells were evaluated at the immunohistochemical, electron microscopic, and molecular genetic levels. Tumor cells stained with cytokeratins, epithelial membrane antigen, GATA-3 (endothelial transcription factor 3), CD15, p53, and p16. In addition, malignant cells strongly stained with CD138 in all the cases, whereas leukocyte common antigen and multiple myeloma 1/interferon regulatory factor 4 were completely negative, nor immunoreactivity was seen for either κ or λ light chains. The electron microscopic examination showed the presence of divergent squamous and glandular differentiation. At variance with conventional urothelial carcinoma, the analysis of exons 4-9 of TP53 gene revealed no alteration in all the 4 tumors tested, and this can be of value in choosing additional chemotherapy after surgery. Plasmacytoid carcinoma of the bladder is a tumor entity, which can be characterized by specific immunohistochemical markers, including positivity for GATA-3, and presents phenotypic and genotypic peculiarities.

Abstract
We examined diagnostic variation of flat intraurothelial lesions with comparison with immunohistochemical and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) analyses. Nine uropathologists diagnosed 23 biopsy samples from the urinary bladder. The samples were analyzed by immunohistochemical expression of cytokeratin 20, high-molecular-weight cytokeratin, Ki-67, p53, and p16(INK4a), and multicolor FISH using the UroVysion probe set (Vysis, Abbott, Des Plaines, IL). Diagnostic agreement for each classification and for nonneoplastic or neoplastic lesions was obtained in 8 (35%) and 16 (70%) of 23 lesions, respectively. The preference ratio of neoplasia to nonneoplasia (0.9 to 4.8) or carcinoma in situ to dysplasia (0.2 to 4.0) also varied among the pathologists. In 6 ancillary analyses, the majority of neoplastic lesions with diagnostic agreement indicated more than 2 aberrant results, whereas the majority of lesions without diagnostic agreement showed no or only 1 aberrant result. The molecular and immunohistochemical analyses can discriminate between neoplastic and nonneoplastic lesions; however, they cannot reliably solve diagnostic variation of flat intraepithelial lesions.
