Abstract
This systematic review and meta-analysis study aimed to investigate the effect of sexual counseling based on PLISSIT (Permission, Limited Information, Specific Suggestions, and Intensive Therapy) and EX-PLISSIT models on sexual function, satisfaction, and quality of sexual life. We searched seven electronic databases (MEDLINE, CINAHL, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, ProQuest, Scopus, and PubMed). Studies published between January 1, 2010, and August 16, 2022, were included in the search. Eighteen articles were eligible for inclusion in the analysis. There was a significant difference in the sexual function scores of the PLISSIT and EX-PLISSIT groups and the comparison groups (standardized mean difference (SMD): 1.677; 95% CI 0.668, 2.686; p < 0.05) and "sexual and communication satisfaction" sub-dimension of sexual life quality (SMD: 0.748; 95% CI 0.022, 1.475; p < 0.05). There was no difference in the sexual satisfaction (SMD: 0.425; 95% CI - 0.335, 1.184; p > 0.05) and quality of sexual life scores of the PLISSIT and EX-PLISSIT groups and the comparison groups (SMD: - 0.09; 95% CI - 0.211, 0.032; p > 0.05). PLISSIT and EX-PLISSIT models-based sexual counseling on sexual function was affected by the moderator variables of the time of evaluation of the results after the intervention, type of comparison group, the study population, and by whom the intervention was applied. Sexual counseling based on the PLISSIT and EX-PLISSIT models improved sexual function scores and "sexual and communication satisfaction" sub-dimension of sexual life quality.

Abstract
Chronic spinal cord injury affects several respiratory-function-related parameters, such as a decrease in respiratory volumes associated with weakness and a tendency to fibrosis of the perithoracic muscles, a predominance of vagal over sympathetic action inducing airway obstructions, and a difficulty in mobilizing secretions. Altogether, these changes result in both restrictive and obstructive patterns. Moreover, low pulmonary ventilation and reduced cardiovascular system functionality (low venous return and right stroke volume) will hinder adequate alveolar recruitment and low O2 diffusion, leading to a drop in peak physical performance. In addition to the functional effects described above, systemic and localized effects on this organ chronically increase oxidative damage and tissue inflammation. This narrative review describes both the deleterious effects of chronic spinal cord injury on the functional effects of the respiratory system as well as the role of oxidative damage/inflammation in this clinical context. In addition, the evidence for the effect of general and respiratory muscular training on the skeletal muscle as a possible preventive and treatment strategy for both functional effects and underlying tissue mechanisms is summarized.

Abstract
Sexual dysfunction is a common consequence for women with spinal cord injury (SCI); however, current treatments are ineffective, especially in the under-prioritized population of women with SCI. This case-series, a secondary analysis of the Epidural Stimulation After Neurologic Damage (E-STAND) clinical trial aimed to investigate the effect of epidural spinal cord stimulation (ESCS) on sexual function and distress in women with SCI. Three females, with chronic, thoracic, sensorimotor complete SCI received daily (24 h/day) tonic ESCS for 13 months. Questionnaires, including the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) and Female Sexual Distress Scale (FSDS) were collected monthly. There was a 3.2-point (13.2%) mean increase in total FSFI from baseline (24.5 ± 4.1) to post-intervention (27.8 ± 6.6), with a 4.8-50% improvement in the sub-domains of desire, arousal, orgasm and satisfaction. Sexual distress was reduced by 55%, with a mean decrease of 12 points (55.4%) from baseline (21.7 ± 17.2) to post-intervention (9.7 ± 10.8). There was a clinically meaningful change of 14 points in the International Standards for Neurological Classification of Spinal Cord Injury total sensory score from baseline (102 ± 10.5) to post-intervention (116 ± 17.4), without aggravating dyspareunia. ESCS is a promising treatment for sexual dysfunction and distress in women with severe SCI. Developing therapeutic interventions for sexual function is one of the most meaningful recovery targets for people with SCI. Additional large-scale investigations are needed to understand the long-term safety and feasibility of ESCS as a viable therapy for sexual dysfunction. Abstract
Purpose of Review Spinal cord injury (SCI) creates unique needs that if not recognized and addressed timely can have detrimental effects on the health and quality of life (QOL) of people living with a SCI. Primary preventive health care is shown to decrease morbidity and mortality, yet the SCI population reportedly faces challenges getting access to this care. This area in SCI health care is still largely understudied with no consensus on the ideal way or which health care provider is best to provide primary care for this population. Findings Preventive care is generally provided by general primary care providers, but not all primary care providers are trained in recognizing and addressing spinal cord injury-specific needs. SCI providers generally are not trained in addressing all aspects of preventive care. Knowing the recommended preventive care screenings, recognizing and managing specific conditions seen after a SCI, and seamless coordination of care between general practitioners and SCI specialists are some of the interventions to help prevent health complications, decrease morbidity and mortality, improve health outcomes, and promote QOL in this patient population. Summary Prioritized focus on preventive care is necessary for a positive impact on the overall health and QOL in this population. Addressing the knowledge gap reported by primary care providers and SCI providers may help increase the probability of SCI patients getting their preventive and specialty care needs addressed. We present a "cheat sheet" of recommendations for the preventive care evaluation of a person living with a SCI.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The aim of this study was to describe the rate of pregnancy in spinal cord injured women in Sweden as well as pregnancy, delivery, and neonatal outcomes. MATERIAL AND METHODS This study was based on data from the Swedish Medical Birth Register and the National Patient Register. The study population included women with spinal cord injury who gave birth in Sweden during the period 1997 to 2015. The general population was used as reference and included all non-spinal cord injured patients who gave birth during the same period of time. RESULTS In the spinal cord injury group, 109 births were identified. Eighty-nine (82%) of them were among paraplegic women and 20 (18%) were among tetraplegic women. Women with spinal cord injury in our study population had urinary tract infections during pregnancy in five cases (5%) and anemia during pregnancy in nine cases (8%), compared with 0.2% and 4%, respectively, in the general population. Compared with the general population more deliveries were induced in the study population, 18 (17%) in the spinal cord injury group and 12% in the general population. Vaginal delivery was achieved in 52 (48%) of the births with 42 of them (39%) being non-instrumental and 10 (9%) being instrumental vaginal deliveries. Elective cesarean section rate was 34% (n = 37). Sixteen infants (15%) were born preterm (gestational week <37). We found an overall low rate of pregnancy and delivery complications. CONCLUSIONS Our results show predominantly favorable outcomes of pregnancy and delivery in women with spinal cord injury as well as their infants. These results are in concordance with previous research.

Abstract
AbstractAutonomic dysreflexia (AD) is a potentially life-threatening condition of the autonomic nervous system following spinal cord injury at or above T6. One of the most common symptoms is a sudden increase in blood pressure induced by afferent sensory stimulation owing to unmodulated reflex sympathetic hyperactivity. Such episodes of high blood pressure might be associated with a high risk of cerebral or retinal hemorrhage, seizures, heart failure, or pulmonary edema. In-depth knowledge is, therefore, crucial for the proper management of the AD, especially for spine surgeons, who encounter these patients quite often in their clinical practice. Systematical review of the literature dealing with strategies to prevent and manage this challenging condition was done by two independent reviewers. Studies that failed to assess primary (prevention, treatment strategies and management) and secondary outcomes (clinical symptomatology, presentation) were excluded. A bibliographical search revealed 85 eligible studies that provide a variety of preventive and treatment measures for the subjects affected by AD. As these measures are predominantly based on noncontrolled trials, long-term prospectively controlled multicenter studies are warranted to validate these preventive and therapeutic proposals.

Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to examine the experiences of patients and their partners about their sexual lives after Spinal Cord Injury (SCI).Design: This qualitative study was based on Heidegger's hermeneutic phenomenological approach.Setting: The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Outpatient Clinic of a city hospital in the Central Anatolia Region in Turkey.Participants: The study consisted of seven female and six male patients with spinal cord injury and their partners.Outcome measures: The textual analysis was carried out in three stages: (1) a naive reading, (2) a structural analysis, and (3) a comprehensive understanding of the text including a discussion. The sample size was calculated by using the criterion sampling technique.Results: As a result of the in-depth interviews with individuals with SCI about their sexual experiences, five themes were derived: (1) first confrontation with SCI, (2) experienced sexual problems, (3) coping, (4) partners' views on sexual problems, and (5) other people.Conclusion: It was found that the sex life of individuals with SCI was negatively affected, they were left helpless in dealing with their problems, and that some patients had difficulties in coping with this condition.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS The aim of this systematic review of the literature was to pool all the existing data regarding pregnancy and delivery in women with neurogenic bladder or bladder exstrophy who had undergone previous lower urinary tract reconstruction (LUTR). METHODS We conducted a systematic review of the literature from PubMed/MedLine, ClinicalTrials.gov and the Google Scholar database, from 1972 to July 2020. Fifty articles were included, of which 25 contained data that could be pooled (229 women representing 292 pregnancies). RESULTS Ninety-eight women had bladder exstrophy (43%), 58 had spinal dysraphism (25%), 14 had spinal cord injury (6%), and 59 presented other pathological conditions. Of these, 138 have had an augmentation cystoplasty (61%), 42 (18%) had a continent cutaneous urinary diversion, and 31 had an artificial urinary sphincter (14%). During their pregnancy, 97 women (33%) experienced at least one febrile urinary tract infection. Thirty-one women (11%) required ureteral stenting or nephrostomy placement for upper urinary tract dilatation. Forty-six pregnancies ended with premature delivery (16%). Delivery mode was by C-section for 108 patients (62%) and vaginal delivery for 104 (36%). Twenty complications were reported during delivery (mainly urological), of which 19 occurred during C-section. Nine women experienced postpartum urinary incontinence (4%); in 5 of then this was due to urinary fistulae secondary to complicated C-section. CONCLUSIONS Pregnancy and vaginal delivery are possible for women with LUTR who have no obstetric or medical contraindications, except for some particular cases of bladder exstrophy. However, these high-risk pregnancies and deliveries should be managed by a specialist multidisciplinary team.

Abstract
Neurogenic bladder and sexual dysfunction after spinal cord lesions are highly prevalent. The treatment algorithm for neurogenic bladder is well described. Clean intermittent self-catheterisation associated with treatment of neurogenic detrusor overactivity is the gold standard. Goals of treatment are twofold: i) control risk factors to avoid upper urinary tract complications, and ii) improve quality of life by treating incontinence when feasible. Lower urinary tract dysfunction is still a major cause of complications and hospitalisation. Sexual dysfunction must be addressed and treated and is at the top of patient expectations one year after injury.

Abstract
Women are a growing proportion of individuals with SCI and have distinctive health needs spanning the life course that demand deliberate consideration and clinical expertise. Practitioners caring for women with SCI must incorporate broad medical knowledge of SCI physiology and health promotion for women, including differences in complication rates following SCI, and work collaboratively with rehabilitation, medical, and surgical specialists to optimize function and health for women with SCI. Clinical researchers must continue to perform population-based studies to best characterize the evolving needs of women with SCI and evaluate treatment efficacy and care delivery models to best serve this population.

Abstract
Many reproductive-aged women with a disability can achieve successful healthy pregnancies; however, they may face challenges accessing prenatal and postpartum care and finding providers who are knowledgeable about their specific condition. Depending on the nature of the disability, some women may also be at increased risk for adverse maternal and infant outcomes such as pre-eclampsia, infection, anemia, primary cesarean delivery, or preterm birth. Population-based data are needed to better understand the pregnancy and postpartum experiences of women living with disability. The National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) collaborated to address these data gaps by leveraging CDC's Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS) to gather information about disability among women who have had a recent live birth. Data collection began in 2019. Information gathered through PRAMS can be used to guide the development of clinical practices guidelines, intervention programs, and other initiatives of federal, state, and local agencies to improve services and the health of women of reproductive age living with disability.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There are no known interventions addressing self-esteem in women following spinal cord injury (SCI). OBJECTIVES To test the feasibility of an online self-esteem intervention for women with disabilities, as modified for women with SCI. METHOD We conducted a randomized, controlled feasibility test of a self-esteem intervention (N = 21). Participants were randomly assigned to the intervention or control group that received intervention materials at the end of the study. Intervention participants met as avatars for 7 weekly real-time group sessions in Second Life (SL), a free online virtual world. Feasibility indicators were study engagement, acceptability of SL and the intervention, and improvements on measures of psychological health promoting behaviors, social support, self-efficacy, self-esteem, and depression. RESULTS Intervention participants (n = 10) were highly engaged, and most described the SL program as more enjoyable and more convenient than in-person programs. All rated the intervention as "good" (n = 4) or "very good" (n = 6), and all 10 rated themselves has having made positive life changes as a result of the program. Intervention participants experienced significantly greater change than controls on two measures of health-promoting behavior (Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile-II Spiritual Growth/Self-actualization; Interpersonal Relations). Examining change in the intervention group using regression analyses, we found medium-to-large effects of the intervention on these behaviors and measures of depression (CESD-10, PHQ-9). The intervention had small effects on remaining measures. CONCLUSION We found preliminary support for the feasibility of this modified self-esteem intervention offered in SL. Such programming may help circumvent barriers to community-based psychological services and may improve psychological health.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW We highlight the substantial gaps in knowledge on urologic care of female spinal cord injury (SCI) patients. RECENT FINDINGS Males account for approximately 80% of people living with SCI in developed nations. Although there is a robust body of literature in some aspects of urologic care of individuals with SCI, such as treatments for neurogenic detrusor overactivity, there are relatively few studies focusing specifically on females. There are also few studies focusing on other aspects of urologic care of women with SCI such as sexual dysfunction, pelvic organ prolapse, and bladder cancer. Established guidelines for bladder management exist, generally recommending intermittent catheterization, but the fact remains that a substantial number of women with SCI utilize indwelling catheters for bladder management. There remains a paucity of literature using patient-reported measures regarding both outcomes and experiences of urologic management in the SCI population. Bladder management is challenging for many women with SCI. There are few studies on other urologic concerns in women with SCI.

Abstract
Introduction Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) is a condition associated with post-transplant immunosuppression that can develop in various organs, including the grafted one. However, it has rarely been reported in nerve tissue. We encountered an unexpected case of PTLD in the cauda equina of a kidney transplant recipient who was being treated with chronic immunosuppressive therapies. Case presentation The patient was a 39-year-old woman in whom lower limb muscle weakness appeared and progressed rapidly 10 years after kidney transplantation for glomerulonephritis. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings were suggestive of an intradural extramedullary tumor. Diagnosis of PTLD was established on open biopsy. Culprit immunosuppressants (tacrolimus, mycophenolate mofetil, and prednisolone) were discontinued, and rituximab and radiation therapy were started. The paraplegia gradually improved after drug discontinuation, and the lesion diminished in size 3 months after this series of treatment, and finally disappeared on MRI as of 1 year after treatment. Discussion PTLD in the cauda equina is extremely rare, and only one case involving the cauda equina has been reported previously. Biopsy should be performed initially for definitive diagnosis, after which the suspected culprit immunosuppressants should be immediately discontinued.

Abstract
RATIONALE About 60,0000 people are involved in traffic accident each year in China and spinal cord injury (SCI) often occurs. Pregnant women with paraplegia is rare, and they face higher risk during pregnancy and childbirth. PATIENT CONCERNS We report a case of a 35-year-old patient with SCI, who had vaginal forceps delivery at 38 weeks and 5 days of gestation. DIAGNOSES The patient was diagnosed with term pregnancy with traumatic tetraplegia. INTERVENTIONS A vaginal forceps delivery was performed at 38 weeks and 5 days of gestation. OUTCOMES A vaginal forceps delivery of the patient was smooth. After delivery the patient recovered quickly, her vaginal blood was less, blood pressure was favoring. LESSONS This study presents a case with traumatic tetraplegia during pregnancy. We suggest that regular prenatal care is necessary.
