Continuous-wave, pump-enhanced optical parametric oscillator based on periodically-poled RbTiOAsO4

1.8 W, high efficiency, pump-enhanced, narrow linewidth optical parametric oscillator at 3.8 µm

A high efficiency, continuous-wave, narrow linewidth, pump-enhanced optical parametric oscillator (OPO) at 3.8 µm was demonstrated, which was pumped by a 1064 nm fiber laser with a linewidth of 18 kHz. The low frequency modulation locking technique was employed to stabilize the output power. The wavelengths of signal and idler were 1475.5 nm and 3819.9 nm at 25 °C, respectively. The pump-enhanced structure was applied, leading to a maximum quantum efficiency of over 60% with pump power of 3 W. The maximum output power of idler light is 1.8 W with a linewidth of 363 kHz. The excellent tuning performance of the OPO was also demonstrated. In order to avoid mode-splitting and decrease of pump enhancing factor due to feedback light in the cavity, the crystal was placed obliquely to the pump beam and the maximum output power was increased by 19%. At the maximum output power of idler light, the M² factors in the x and y directions were 1.30 and 1.33, respectively.

5.2-W high-repetition-rate eye-safe laser at 1525 nm generated by Nd:YVO₄₋YVO₄stimulated Raman conversion

We report herein an efficient eye-safe Raman laser, which is based upon Nd:YVO₄₋YVO₄ and in-band pumped by a wavelength-locked laser diode array at 878.6 nm. By virtue of mitigated thermal load and improved pump absorption, a maximum average output power of 5.2 W at 1525 nm is obtained under the incident pump power of 30.6 W with the pulse repetition frequency of 140 kHz, corresponding to an optical efficiency of 17.0%.

Hyperspectral imaging of gases with a continuous-wave pump-enhanced optical parametric oscillator

We demonstrate a system for the active real-time hyperspectral imaging of gases using a combination of a compact, pump-enhanced, continuous-wave optical parametric oscillator as an all-solid-state mid-infrared source of coherent radiation and an electro-mechanical polygonal imager. The wide spectral coverage and high spectral resolution characteristics of this source means that the system is capable of being selectively tuned into the absorption features of a wide variety of gaseous species. As an example we show how the largest absorption coefficient exhibited by methane at 3057.7cm(-1) can be accessed (amongst others) and gas plumes imaged in concentrations as low as 30ppm.m using a parametric oscillator based on periodically-poled RbTiOAsO(4) (PP-RTA).
