Abstract
Phase modulators are commonly used devices in optics. Free-space phase modulators are typically constructed from optically anisotropic crystals exhibiting the Pockels effect. To preserve the light's polarization state as it propagates through the crystal, it is essential to align the polarization and the angle of incidence of the light with respect to the crystal. In this study, we demonstrate the feasibility of constructing free-space resonant phase modulators with a broad acceptance angle and minimal dependence on the polarization state of light using an acousto-optic approach. These modulators operate in the megahertz frequency range, require modest power levels, have aperture sizes exceeding 1 cm2, and feature sub-millimeter thickness.

Abstract
The van Cittert-Zernike theorem states that the Fourier transform of the intensity distribution function of a distant, incoherent source is equal to the complex degree of coherence. In this Letter, we present a method for measuring the complex degree of coherence in one shot by recording the interference patterns produced by multiple aperture pairs. The intensity of the sample is obtained by Fourier transforming the complex degree of coherence. The experimental verification by using a simple object is presented together with a discussion on how the method could be improved for imaging more complex samples.

Abstract
We propose and experimentally demonstrate an on-axis phase-shifting correlation holography technique with un-polarized light. The randomness of the un-polarized light is exploited to evaluate the higher-order polarization correlation and to consequently apply it in the reconstruction of the hologram from the randomness. A detailed theoretical analysis is developed and verified by numerical simulations and followed by experimental demonstrations. To validate the application of the proposed technique, imaging of different helical phase objects with randomness is presented. A good affinity is found between simulation and experimental results, which validates the accuracy of the proposed technique.

Abstract
The coherence holography offers an unconventional way to reconstruct the hologram where an incoherent light illumination is used for reconstruction purposes, and object encoded into the hologram is reconstructed as the distribution of the complex coherence function. Measurement of the coherence function usually requires an interferometric setup and array detectors. This paper presents an entirely new idea of reconstruction of the complex coherence function in the coherence holography without an interferometric setup. This is realized by structured pattern projections on the incoherent source structure and implementing measurement of the cross-covariance of the intensities by a single-pixel detector. This technique, named structured transmittance illumination coherence holography (STICH), helps to reconstruct the complex coherence from the intensity measurement in a single-pixel detector without an interferometric setup and also keeps advantages of the intensity correlations. A simple experimental setup is presented as a first step to realize the technique, and results based on the computer modeling of the experimental setup are presented to show validation of the idea.

Abstract
We propose a compressive self-interference incoherent digital holography (SIDH) with a geometric phase metalens for section-wise holographic object reconstruction. We specify the details of the SIDH with a geometric phase metalens design that covers the visible wavelength band, analyze a spatial distortion problem in the SIDH and address a process of a compressive holographic section-wise reconstruction with analytic spatial calibration. The metalens allows us to realize a compressive SIDH system in the visible wavelength band using an image sensor with relatively low bandwidth. The operation of the proposed compressive SIDH is verified through numerical simulations.

Abstract
Coded aperture correlation holography (COACH) is a relatively new technique to record holograms of incoherently illuminated scenes. In this review, we survey the main milestones in the COACH topic from two main points of view. First, we review the prime architectures of optical hologram recorders in the family of COACH systems. Second, we discuss some of the key applications of these recorders in the field of imaging in general, and for 3D super-resolution imaging, partial aperture imaging, and seeing through scattering medium, in particular. We summarize this overview with a general perspective on this research topic and its prospective directions.

Abstract
The optical configuration proposed in this paper consists of a 4-f optical setup with the wavefront modulation device on the Fourier plane, such as a concave mirror and a spatial light modulator. The transverse magnification of reconstructed images with the proposed configuration is independent of locations of an object and an image sensor; therefore, reconstructed images of object(s) at different distances can be scaled with a fixed transverse magnification. It is yielded based on Fourier optics and mathematically verified with the optical matrix method. Numerical simulation results and experimental results are also given to confirm the fixity of the reconstructed images.

Abstract
We describe a new method for recording spatially incoherent common-path off-axis color digital holograms. We present the theoretical and experimental evidence to demonstrate an incoherent common-path off-axis color digital holographic (ICOCH) system capable of capturing information from three-dimensional color objects under incoherent illumination, both in transmission and reflection modes. Fresnel incoherent correlation holography (FINCH), a common-path system, is a frequently used incoherent holography technique. Our proposed system is conceptually similar to an advanced form of FINCH; moreover, it has three advantages over this advanced form of FINCH. First, removal of the spatial light modulator makes our system simpler and more cost-effective. Second, removal of the polarizer or analyzer allows for greater light throughput. Third, the off-axis optical configuration enables separation of zero-order and twin images with only a single exposure per color rather than requiring three exposures per color for in-line holography FINCH. Therefore, we believe that this simple and cost-effective system with high light throughput can acquire incoherent holograms for different colors involving single exposure for each color, which makes the ICOCH system suitable for many applications.

Abstract
Correlation holography reconstructs three-dimensional (3D) objects as a distribution of two-point correlations of the random field detected by two-dimensional detector arrays. Here, we describe a hybrid method, a combination of optical and computational channels, to reconstruct the objects from only a single pixel detector. An experimental arrangement is proposed as a first step to realizing the technique; we have simulated the experimental model for both scalar and vectorial objects. The proposed technique provides depth focusing and 3D reconstruction with digital suppression of unwanted frequency spectrum.

Abstract
Wireless data transmission systems such as wi-fi or Bluetooth emit coherent light-electromagnetic waves with a precisely known amplitude and phase. Propagating in space, this radiation forms a hologram-a two-dimensional wave front encoding a three-dimensional view of all objects traversed by the light beam. Here we demonstrate a scheme to record this hologram in a phase-coherent fashion across a meter-sized imaging region. We recover three-dimensional views of objects and emitters by feeding the resulting data into digital reconstruction algorithms. Employing a digital implementation of dark-field propagation to suppress multipath reflection, we significantly enhance the quality of the resulting images. We numerically simulate the hologram of a 10-m-sized building, finding that both localization of emitters and 3D tomography of absorptive objects could be feasible by this technique.

Abstract
Fresnel incoherent correlation holography (FINCH) was proposed to break the barrier of spatial incoherent digital holographic imaging and show the potential of super-resolution imaging preferences. We developed FINCH as a compressive sensing modality and reconstruction procedure as an inverse problem in order to realize 3D tomographic imaging. Improved axial resolution is obtained via compressive reconstruction. Reconstruction guarantees and accuracy of the proposed method are discussed. Compared with the real-valued signal operation, the signal-to-noise ratio of the results is increased when reconstructing from the complex-valued hologram obtained from the FINCH system.

Abstract
We present a spatially incoherent dual path Fourier holographic system. Conceptually it is similar to Fourier incoherent single channel holography (FISCH). Although our incoherent off-axis Fourier holographic (IOFH) system does not have the robustness of a single channel system, it has three advantages over FISCH, with two being quite obvious from setup. First, no SLM is required, thus making the system simple and cost-effective. Second, it is capable of high light throughput because in FISCH, the use of SLM reduces light intensity in half by splitting one beam into two; furthermore, an analyzer is required to create interference which also reduces light intensity. The third advantage, which makes this IOFH system applicable even for on-axis samples (as opposed to samples in a half plane as is necessary for FISCH), is achieved by tilting one mirror. Here we demonstrate our system with a sample in half plane as in FISCH for different axial positions, and then by placing the object on an optical axis and tilting one mirror. The reconstructed images demonstrate holographic capabilities of our IOFH system for both on-axis and half plane sample locations.

Abstract
Digital holography offers a reliable and fast method to image a three-dimensional scene from a single perspective. This article reviews recent developments of self-reference single-channel incoherent hologram recorders. Hologram recorders in which both interfering beams, commonly referred to as the signal and the reference beams, originate from the same observed objects are considered as self-reference systems. Moreover, the hologram recorders reviewed herein are configured in a setup of a single channel interferometer. This unique configuration is achieved through the use of one or more spatial light modulators.

Abstract
Three-dimensional mapping of fluorescent nanoparticles was performed by using incoherent digital holography. The positions of the nanoparticles were quantitatively determined by using Gaussian fitting of the axial- and lateral-diffraction distributions through position calibration from the observation space to the sample space. It was found that the axial magnification was constant whereas the lateral magnification linearly depended on the axial position of the fluorescent nanoparticles. The mapping of multiple fluorescent nanoparticles fixed in gelatin and a single fluorescent nanoparticle manipulated with optical tweezers in water were demonstrated.

Abstract
The method to record an incoherent Fourier hologram is proposed. The interference patterns in the dual channel rotational shearing interferometer are obtained as the figure of the cosine and the sine transformation in the vertical and the horizontal polarization, respectively. The proposed optical system is simple without spatial light modulators or mechanical phase shifting devices. The experiment, in which the letter "A" displayed on a liquid crystal display with a blue LED backlight was used as an object, confirms the proposed method to obtain an incoherent Fourier hologram.

Abstract
The Lagrange invariant is a well-known law for optical imaging systems formulated in the frame of ray optics. In this study, we reformulate this law in terms of wave optics and relate it to the resolution limits of various imaging systems. Furthermore, this modified Lagrange invariant is generalized for imaging along the z axis, resulting with the axial Lagrange invariant which can be used to analyze the axial resolution of various imaging systems. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the theory, analysis of the lateral and the axial imaging resolutions is provided for Fresnel incoherent correlation holography (FINCH) systems.

Abstract
We present a new method for recording off-axis digital Fourier holograms of three-dimensional objects under spatially incoherent illumination. The method is implemented by modifying the optical configuration of triangular interferometer. The recording properties and 3D reconstruction ability of the proposed method are investigated theoretically and experimentally. Multicolor holographic recording and reconstruction of spatially incoherent illuminated object are achieved by using the proposed off-axis Fourier triangular interferometer and monochromatic digital camera. Only three holograms are sufficient to rebuild a color image without zero-order and twin image disturbing effect. Combining with some image fusion skills during reconstruction, the reconstructed color images with satisfied quality are demonstrated.

Abstract
Spatial and spectral information holds the key for characterizing incoherently illuminated or self-luminous objects, as well as for imaging fluorescence. We propose spectrally resolved incoherent holography using a multifunctional Mach-Zehnder interferometer that can introduce both a radial shear and a variable time delay between the interfering optical fields and permits the measurement of both spatial and temporal coherence functions, from which a 3D spatial and spectral image of the object is reconstructed. We propose and demonstrate the accurate 3D imaging of the object spectra by in situ calibration.

Abstract
Joint object reference digital interferometer (JORDI) is a recently developed system capable of recording holograms of various types [Opt. Lett. 38(22), 4719 (2013)]. Presented here is a new enhanced system design that is based on the previous JORDI. While the previous JORDI has been based purely on diffractive optical elements, displayed on spatial light modulators, the present design incorporates an additional refractive objective lens, thus enabling hologram recording with improved resolution and increased system applicability. Experimental results demonstrate successful hologram recording for various types of objects, including transmissive, reflective, three-dimensional, phase and highly scattering objects. The resolution limit of the system is analyzed and experimentally validated. Finally, the suitability of JORDI for microscopic applications is verified as a microscope objective based configuration of the system is demonstrated.

Abstract
Fourier incoherent single channel holography (FISCH) is a method for recording spatially incoherent digital Fourier holograms. We present a general design of enhanced FISCH with a smaller optical path difference between interfering beams, when compared to our initial design [Opt. Lett. 37, 3723 (2012)]. This reduction enables a proper system operation with a wider bandwidth. Potential resolution enhancement of the images reconstructed from the FISCH holograms consequentially follows.
