Enhanced four-wave mixing efficiency in four-subband semiconductor quantum wells via Fano-type interference

Dynamically tunable vortex four-wave mixing in a six-level system

We investigate the orbital angular momentum of vortex light in a six-level atomic system with a closed loop. We find that a vortex light field via four-wave mixing (FWM) is sensitive to the relative phase of the driving fields due to forming a closed loop configuration. Thus, it could periodically tune the phase and intensity of the vortex FWM field by adjusting the relative phase of the driving fields. Moreover, the spatial modulation of the vortex FWM phase and intensity also can be achieved by tuning the intensity of the microwave field and detuning of the driving fields.

Highly efficient vortex four-wave mixing in asymmetric semiconductor quantum wells

Orbital angular momentum (OAM) is an important property of vortex light, which provides a valuable tool to manipulate the light-matter interaction in the study of classical and quantum optics. Here we propose a scheme to generate vortex light fields via four-wave mixing (FWM) in asymmetric semiconductor quantum wells. By tailoring the probe-field and control-field detunings, we can effectively manipulate the helical phase and intensity of the FWM field. Particularly, when probe field and control field have identical detuning, we find that both the absorption and phase twist of the generated FWM field are significantly suppressed. Consequently, the highly efficient vortex FWM is realized, where the maximum conversion efficiency reaches around 50%. Our study provides a tool to transfer vortex wavefronts from input to output fields in an efficient way, which may find potential applications in solid-state quantum optics and quantum information processing.

Phase control of highly efficient four-wave mixing in a six-level tripod atomic system

We investigate theoretically an enhancement of four-wave mixing (FWM) process in phase-dependent double electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) six-level atomic media. It is shown, owing to the multiphoton destructive interference, that the conversion efficiency of FWM can be enhanced by manipulating the relative phase of the applied fields in this ultraslow propagation regime. Moreover, we also find that the conversion efficiency is amplified with the presence of the microwave field in comparison with the previous six-level scheme [Phys. Rev. Dynamic control of coherent pulses via destructive interference in graphene under Landau quantization

We analyze the destructive interference in monolayer graphene under Landau quantization in a time-dependent way by using the Bloch-Maxwell formalism. Based on this analysis, we investigate the dynamics control of an infrared probe and a terahertz (THz) switch pulses in graphene. In presence of the THz switch pulse, the destructive interference take places and can be optimized so that the monolayer graphene is completely transparent to the infrared probe pulse. In absence of the THz switch pulse, however, the infrared probe pulse is absorbed due to such a interference does not take place. Furthermore, we provide a clear physics insight of this destructive interference by using the classical dressed-state theory. Conversely, the present model may be rendered either absorbing or transparent to the THz switch pulse. By choosing appropriate wave form of the probe and switch pulses, we show that both infrared probe and THz switch pulses exhibit the steplike transitions between absorption and transparency. Such steplike transitions can be used to devise a versatile quantum interference-based solid-state optical switching with distinct wave-lengths for optical communication devices.
