Strongly coupled exciton-surface plasmon polariton from excited-subband transitions of single-walled carbon nanotubes

Plasmon-enhanced high order harmonic generation of open-ended finite-sized carbon nanotubes: The effects of incident field's intensity and frequency and the interference between the incident and scattered fields

The nonlinear optical properties of hybrid systems composed of a silver nanosphere and an open-ended finite-sized armchair single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) are systematically investigated by the hybrid time-dependent Hartree-Fock (TDHF)/finite difference time domain (FDTD) approach, which combines the real-time TDHF approach for the molecular electronic dynamics with the classical computational electrodynamics approach, the FDTD, for solving Maxwell's equations. The high order harmonic generation (HHG) spectra of SWCNTs are studied as a function of the intensity (I₀) and frequency (ω₀) of the incident field, and SWCNTs length as well. It is found that the near field generated by a Ag nanoparticle has an overall enhancement to the molecular HHG in all the energy range, and it extends the HHG spectra to high energy. The inhomogeneity of the near field results in the appearance of even-order harmonics, and their corresponding spectral intensities are sensitive to ω₀, therefore the near field's gradient. When ω₀ is far away from the frequency of plasmon resonance of the silver nanosphere (ω_c), the interference between the incident and scattering light beams extends the spectral range and makes the HHG spectra more sensitive to I₀, while at ω₀ = ω_c, the impact of the interference on the spectra is negligible.

Room temperature exciton-polariton condensate in an optically-controlled trap

We report experimental studies on the optical properties of an exciton polariton condensate confined in an optically defined trap at room temperature. As a result of the parabolic profile of the optical trap, the polariton condensate redistributes itself in simple harmonic oscillator states, forming an analog of the gravity pendulum. We observed the coexistence of two harmonic oscillator modes in a single trap, which were confirmed to be confined modes connected by longitudinal optical (LO) phonons using Raman spectroscopy. Clear features of mode competition behaviors were observed for these two harmonic oscillators when the injection rate of polaritons was varied. The observed mode competition was successfully simulated by a three-level rate equation model. In addition, as a result of the bosonic stimulation in the trap region, up to ∼88% of the injected polaritons were successfully trapped when polariton lasing takes place.

Fabry-Perot type polariton modes and their dynamics revealed by Young's interference experiment

We report experimental studies on the Fabry-Perot (F-P) type polariton modes and their dynamics using a modified Young's double-slit interference technique. The technique was based on the angle-resolved micro-photoluminescence spectroscopy and optimized for nanostructure measurements. Using this technique, we directly revealed the parity of the F-P type polariton modes from the angle-dependent interference spectra. Moreover, clear features of mode competition were observed from the power dependence of the interference patterns. The observed competition behaviors can be well simulated by a five-level rate equation model.
