Abstract
The Fv-antibodies were correponded to VH region of immunoglobulin G, which were composed of three complementarity determining regions (CDRs) for the specific binding of antigens. In this work, the Fv-antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 spike protein (SP) were screened from an autodisplayed Fv-antibody library which was expressed on E. coli outer membrane, and the receptor binding domain (RBD) of SP was used as a screening probe. The screened target clones were analyzed to have quantitative binding properties to the RBD, and the Fv-antibodies from the screened target clones were expressed as soluble proteins. The binding affinity (KD) of expressed Fv-antibodies to the RBD was estimated to be 70-85 nM using SPR biosensor. The specific binding properties of Fv-antibodies were analyzed for pseudo-virus particles with SARS-CoV-2 SP on the Lenti-virus envelope, such as wild type (Wuhan-1) and variants (Delta, Omicron BA.2, Omicron BA.4/5) using a SPR biosensor. The detection of real SARS-CoV-2 (Wild type, Wuhan-1) based on a SPR biosensor was also presented using the Fv-antibodies with the binding constant (KD) of cycle threshold value (Ct) = 33.8-32.9 (2.19-4.08 copies/μL) and LOD of 0.67-0.83 copies/μL (Ct = 35.5-35.2). Finally, one-step immunoassay based on switching peptide was demonstrated for the detection of the real SARS-CoV-2 (Wuhan-1) without any washing step. The binding constant (KD) was estimated to be Ct = 35.2-33.9 (0.83-2.04 copies/μL), and LOD was estimated to be 0.14-0.47 copies/μL (Ct = 37.8-36.0). Considering the LOD of the conventional RT-PCR (Ct = 35), the LOD of the one-step immunoassay based on the switching peptide was determined to be feasible for the medical diagnosis of COVID-19.

Abstract
Serotonin-like mimotopes were screened from the Fv-antibody library to be used as inhibitors against monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A). The Fv-antibody [corresponding to the VH region of immunoglobulin G (IgG)] consists of three complementarity-determining regions and four frame regions. The Fv-antibody library was prepared by site-directed mutagenesis of CDR3, which consists of 11 amino acid residues. Three target clones were screened from the Fv-antibody library, and the binding affinity of the screened clones to the monoclonal anti-serotonin antibody was analyzed using fluorescence-activated cell sorting. The screened Fv-antibodies were expressed as soluble proteins fused with green fluorescence protein. Additionally, the screened CDR3 regions (11 residues) of the selected Fv-antibodies were synthesized as peptides with linking amino acid residues. The binding constants (KD) of the three serotonin-like mimotopes (Fv-antibodies and peptides) were estimated using a surface plasmon resonance biosensor. The inhibitory activity (IC50) of the serotonin-like mimotopes (Fv-antibodies and peptides) was estimated separately for MAO-A and MAO-B enzymes and compared with that of conventional inhibitors. Finally, the screened serotonin-like mimotopes were used to treat a cell line (SH-SY5Y, ATCC code: CRL-2266) expressing serotonin receptors. This was done to confirm the following two aspects: (1) the binding of mimotopes to the serotonin receptors on the cell surface and (2) the inhibitory activity of mimotopes against MAO-A enzymes in the cell lysates.

Abstract
The detection of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-1) was demonstrated using screened Fv-antibodies for SPR biosensor and impedance spectrometry. The Fv-antibody library was first prepared on the outer membrane of E. coli using autodisplay technology and the Fv-variants (clones) with a specific affinity toward the SARS-CoV-1 spike protein (SP) were screened using magnetic beads immobilized with the SP. Upon screening the Fv-antibody library, two target Fv-variants (clones) with a specific binding affinity toward the SARS-CoV-1 SP were determined and the Fv-antibodies on two clones were named "Anti-SP1" (with CDR3 amino acid sequence: 1GRTTG5NDRPD11Y) and "Anti-SP2" (with CDR3 amino acid sequence: 1CLRQA5GTADD11V). The binding affinities of the two screened Fv-variants (clones) were analyzed using flow cytometry and the binding constants (KD) were estimated to be 80.5 ± 3.6 nM for Anti-SP1 and 45.6 ± 8.9 nM for Anti-SP2 (n = 3). In addition, the Fv-antibody including three CDR regions (CDR1, CDR2, and CDR3) and frame regions (FRs) between the CDR regions was expressed as a fusion protein (Mw. 40.6 kDa) with a green fluorescent protein (GFP) and the KD values of the expressed Fv-antibodies toward the SP estimated to be 15.3 ± 1.5 nM for Anti-SP1 (n = 3) and 16.3 ± 1.7 nM for Anti-SP2 (n = 3). Finally, the expressed Fv-antibodies screened against SARS-CoV-1 SP (Anti-SP1 and Anti-SP2) were applied for the detection of SARS-CoV-1. Consequently, the detection of SARS-CoV-1 was demonstrated to be feasible using the SPR biosensor and impedance spectrometry utilizing the immobilized Fv-antibodies against the SARS-CoV-1 SP.

Abstract
Surface plasmonic sensors have received considerable attention, found extensive applications, and outperformed conventional optical sensors. In this work, biopolymer chitosan (CS) was used to prepare the bilayer structure (CS/Au) of a plasmonic refractive index sensor for dopamine (DA) detection. The sensing characteristics of the developed plasmonic sensor were evaluated. Increasing DA concentrations significantly shifted the SPR dips. The sensor exhibited stability and a refractive index sensitivity of 8.850°/RIU in the linear range 0.1 nM to 1 µM with a detection limit of 0.007 nM and affinity constant of 1.383 × 108 M-1. The refractive index and thickness of the CS/Au structure were measured simultaneously by fitting the obtained experimental findings to theoretical data based on Fresnel equations. The fitting yielded the refractive index values n (1.5350 ± 0.0001) and k (0.0150 ± 0.0001) for the CS layer contacting 0.1 nM of DA, and the thickness, d was (15.00 ± 0.01) nm. Then, both n and d values increased by increasing DA concentrations. In addition, the changes in the FTIR spectrum and the variations in sensor surface roughness and structure obtained by AFM analysis confirmed DA adsorption on the sensing layer. Based on these observations, CS/Au bilayer has enhanced the performance of this plasmonic sensor, which showed promising importance as a simple, low-cost, and reliable platform for DA sensing.

Abstract
In this study, graphene quantum dots (GQDs) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) composite was prepared and then coated on the surface of gold thin film via the spin coating technique. Subsequently, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis) were adopted to understand the structure, surface morphology, and optical properties of the prepared samples. The FT-IR spectral analysis revealed important bands, such as O-H stretching, C=O stretching, C-H stretching, and O=C=O stretching vibrations. The surface roughness of the GQDs-PVA composite thin film was found to be increased after exposure to carbaryl. On the other hand, the optical absorbance of the GQDs-PVA thin film was obtained and further analysis was conducted, revealing a band gap Eg value of 4.090 eV. The sensing potential of the thin film was analyzed using surface plasmon resonance (SPR) spectroscopy. The findings demonstrated that the developed sensor's lowest detection limit for carbaryl was 0.001 ppb, which was lower than that previously reported, i.e., 0.007 ppb. Moreover, other sensing performance parameters, such as full width at half maximum, detection accuracy, and signal-to-noise ratio, were also investigated to evaluate the sensor's efficiency.

Abstract
Graphene quantum dots (GQDs) are attractive materials for use as highly selective and sensitive chemical sensors, owing to their simple preparation and affordability. GQDs have been successfully deployed as sensors for toxic metal ions, which is a significant issue due to the ever-increasing environmental contamination from agricultural and industrial activities. Despite the success of GQDs in this area, the mechanisms which underpin GQD-metal ion specificity are rarely explored. This lack of information can result in difficulties when attempting to replicate published procedures and can limit the judicious design of new highly selective GQD sensors. Furthermore, there is a dearth of GQD examples which selectively detect biologically relevant alkali and alkaline earth metals. This review will present the current state of GQDs as metal ion sensors for harmful contaminants, highlighting and discussing the discrepancies that exist in the proposed mechanisms regarding metal ion selectivity. The emerging field of GQD sensors for biorelevant metal ion species will also be reviewed, with a perspective to the future of this highly versatile material.

Abstract
Abnormality of dopamine (DA), a vital neurotransmitter in the brain’s neuronal pathways, causes several neurological diseases. Rapid and sensitive sensors for DA detection are required for early diagnosis of such disorders. Herein, a carbon quantum dot (CQD)-based refractive index surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor was designed. The sensor performance was evaluated for various concentrations of DA. Increasing DA levels yielded blue-shifted SPR dips. The experimental findings revealed an excellent sensitivity response of 0.138°/pM in a linear range from 0.001 to 100 pM and a high binding affinity of 6.234 TM−1. The effects of varied concentrations of DA on the optical characteristics of CQD thin film were further proved theoretically. Increased DA levels decreased the thickness and real part of the refractive index of CQD film, according to fitting results. Furthermore, the observed reduction in surface roughness using AFM demonstrated that DA was bound to the sensor layer. This, in turn, explained the blue shift in SPR reflectance curves. This optical sensor offers great potential as a trustworthy solution for direct measurement due to its simple construction, high sensitivity, and other sensing features.

Abstract
In the present work, graphene oxide (GO)–polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) composites thin film has been successfully synthesized and prepared by spin coating techniques. Then, the properties and morphology of the samples were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Experimental FTIR results for GO–PVA thin film demonstrated the existence of important functional groups such as -CH2 stretching, C=O stretching, and O–H stretching. Furthermore, UV-Vis analysis indicated that the GO–PVA thin film had the highest absorbance that can be observed at wavelengths ranging from 200 to 500 nm with a band gap of 4.082 eV. The surface morphology of the GO–PVA thin film indicated the thickness increased when in contact with carbaryl. The incorporation of the GO–PVA thin film with an optical method based on the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) phenomenon demonstrated a positive response for the detection of carbaryl pesticide as low as 0.02 ppb. This study has successfully proposed that the GO–PVA thin film has high potential as a polymer nanomaterial-based SPR sensor for pesticide detection.

Abstract
Due to the crucial role of dopamine (DA) in health and peripheral nervous systems, it is particularly important to develop an efficient and accurate sensor to monitor and determine DA concentrations for diagnostic purposes and diseases prevention. Up to now, using surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensors in DA determination is very limited and its application still at the primary stage. In this work, a simple and ultra-sensitive SPR sensor was constructed for DA detection by preparation of chitosan- graphene quantum dots (CS-GQDs) thin film as the sensing layer. Other SPR measurements were conducted using different sensing layers; GQDs, CS for comparison. The proposed thin films were prepared by spin coating technique. The developed CS-GQDs thin film-based SPR sensor was successfully tested in DA concentration range from 0 fM to 1 pM. The designed SPR sensor showed outstanding performance in detecting DA sensitively (S = 0.011°/fM, R2 = 0.8174) with low detection limit of 1.0 fM has been achieved for the first time. The increased angular shift of SPR dip, narrow full width half maximum of the SPR curves, excellent signal-to-noise ratio and figure of merit, and a binding affinity constant (KA) of 2.962 PM-1 demonstrated the potential of this sensor to detect DA with high accuracy. Overall, it was concluded that the proposed sensor would serve as a valuable tool in clinical diagnostic for the serious neurological disorders. This in turns has a significant socio-economic impact.

Abstract
There are extensive studies on the development of composite solutions involving various types of materials. Therefore, this works aims to incorporate two polymers of nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) and poly(3,4-ethylenethiophene) (PEDOT) to develop a composite thin film via the spin-coating method. Then, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy is employed to confirm the functional groups of the NCC/PEDOT thin film. The atomic force microscopy (AFM) results revealed a relatively homogeneous surface with the roughness of the NCC/PEDOT thin film being slightly higher compared with individual thin films. Meanwhile, the ultraviolet/visible (UV/vis) spectrometer evaluated the optical properties of synthesized thin films, where the absorbance peaks can be observed around a wavelength of 220 to 700 nm. An optical band gap of 4.082 eV was obtained for the composite thin film, which is slightly lower as compared with a single material thin film. The NCC/PEDOT thin film was also incorporated into a plasmonic sensor based on the surface plasmon resonance principle to evaluate the potential for sensing mercury ions in an aqueous medium. Resultantly, the NCC/PEDOT thin film shows a positive response in detecting the various concentrations of mercury ions. In conclusion, this work has successfully developed a new sensing layer in fabricating an effective and potential heavy metal ions sensor.

Abstract
The best surface plasmon resonance (SPR) signal can be generated based on several factors that include the excitation wavelength, the type of metal used, and the thickness of the metal layer. In this study, the aforementioned factors have been investigated to obtain the best SPR signal. The excitation wavelength of 633 nm and gold metal with thickness of 50 nm were required to generate the SPR signal before the SPR was used for optical constant characterization by fitting of experimental results to the theoretical data. The employed strategy has good agreement with the theoretical value where the real part refractive index, n value, of the gold thin film was 0.1245 while the value for the imaginary part, k, was 3.6812 with 47.7 nm thickness. Besides that, the optical characterization of nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC)-based thin film has also been demonstrated. The n and k values found for this thin film were 1.4240 and 0.2520, respectively, with optimal thickness of 9.5 nm. Interestingly when the NCC-based thin film was exposed to copper ion solution with n value of 1.3333 and k value of 0.0060 to 0.0070 with various concentrations (0.01–10 ppm), a clear change of the refractive index value was observed. This result suggests that the NCC-based thin film has high potential for copper ion sensing using SPR with a sensitivity of 8.0052°/RIU.

Abstract
Water contamination by mercury ions (Hg2+) causes irreversible and serious effect on the ambient environment, ecological systems, and human health, necessitating further improvement of Hg2+ monitoring at low concentrations. Here, we proposed a novel surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor for Hg2+ detection with desirable advantages of high sensitivity, simple operation, label-free, and low cost, in which the chitosan/poly (vinyl alcohol)/SnO2 composite film was modified on sensing surface as the active layer for sensitivity enhancement. Benefiting from the relatively high refractive index of SnO2 nanoparticles, the evanescent field generated at the metal-solution interface can be significantly enhanced, which results in a 5 times improvement of sensitivity. Through appropriate optimization in the aspects of componential constitutions, the sensor exhibits excellent sensitivity of 25.713 nm/μg/L and ultra-low calculated detection limit of 6.61 ng/L(32.95 pM). Such detection limit is strikingly lower than the limitation (10 nM) in drinking water set by the US Environmental Protection Agency. In addition, the as-prepared sensor presents relatively high selectivity for Hg2+, attributing to plenty of binding sites for specific adsorption produced by functionalized chitosan/poly (vinyl alcohol) composites, which have been furtherly verified by characterization of FTIR and XPS spectra. The proposed sensor also exhibits great repeatability and good time stability for 15 days. This work provides a promising strategy for developing high-performance SPR sensor for Hg2+ detection and a prospective application in environmental monitoring.

Abstract
The determination of heavy metal ions has always been a hot topic in the field of environmental analysis. In this study, a new covalent organic framework-loaded gold nanoparticle (AuCOF) nanocatalytic amplification signal strategy was developed to determine trace Co2+ in water. The COF of BtPD was synthesized from 1,3,5-benzene tricarboxaldehyde and p-phenylenediamine, and a new kind of AuBtPD nanosol was prepared by reduction of HAuCl4 to AuNPs on the BtPD carrier. It has strong catalysis of the new indicator reaction of sodium formate reducing HAuCl4 to AuNP sol with strong resonance Rayleigh scattering (RRS) at 370 nm and surface enhanced resonance Raman scattering (SERS) activity at 1614 cm-1 in the presence of a Victoria blue 4R (VB4R) molecular probe. Combining the nanocatalytic reaction to amplify the dual-scattering signals and specific aptamer (Apt) of cobalt ions, a new, fast, stable, sensitive and specific dual mode method for detecting Co2+ was established; the RRS signal I 370nm and SERS signal I 1614cm-1 show a linear relationship with the concentration of 0.033-1 nmol L-1 Co2+ and with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.02 nmol L-1. The two methods have been applied to the determination of Co2+ in industrial wastewater, tap water and river water, and the results are satisfactory.

Abstract
A nonlinear interferometer can be constructed by replacing the beam splitter in the Mach-Zehnder interferometer with four-wave mixing (FWM) process. Meanwhile, the conventional surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensors can be extensively used to infer the information of refractive index of the sample to be measured via either angle demodulation technique or intensity demodulation technique. Combined with a single FWM process, a quantum SPR sensor has been realized, whose noise floor is reduced below standard quantum limit with sensitivity unobtainable with classical SPR sensor. Therefore, in this work we have theoretically proposed a nonlinear interferometric SPR sensor, in which a conventional SPR sensor is placed inside nonlinear interferometer, which is called as I-type nonlinear interferometric SPR sensor. We demonstrate that near resonance angle I-type nonlinear interferometric SPR sensor has the following advantages: its degree of intensity-difference squeezing, estimation precision ratio, and signal-noise-ratio are improved by the factors of 4.6 dB, 2.3 dB, and 4.6 dB respectively than that obtained with a quantum SPR sensor based on a single FWM process. In addition, the theoretical principle of this work can also be expanded to other types of sensing, such as bending, pressure, and temperature sensors based on a nonlinear interferometer.

Abstract
A novel vanadium–cellulose composite thin film-based on angular interrogation surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor for ppb-level detection of Ni(II) ion was developed. Experimental results show that the sensor has a linear response to the Ni(II) ion concentrations in the range of 2–50 ppb with a determination coefficient (R2) of 0.9910. This SPR sensor can attain a maximum sensitivity (0.068° ppb−1), binding affinity constant (1.819 × 106 M−1), detection accuracy (0.3034 degree−1), and signal-to-noise-ratio (0.0276) for Ni(II) ion detection. The optical properties of thin-film targeting Ni(II) ions in different concentrations were obtained by fitting the SPR reflectance curves using the WinSpall program. All in all, the proposed Au/MPA/V–CNCs–CTA thin-film-based surface plasmon resonance sensor exhibits better sensing performance than the previous film-based sensor and demonstrates a wide and promising technology candidate for environmental monitoring applications in the future.

Abstract
This paper proposes a novel idea to enhance the sensitivity and selectivity of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) optical sensor for detection of dengue virus type-2 envelope proteins (DENV-2 E-proteins) using polyamidoamine (PAMAM) dendrimer biopolymer-based nanocomposite thin film. For this purpose, two ranges of DENV-2 E-protein concentrations, i.e., 0.000008-0.0001 nM and 0.00008-0.005 nM were evaluated, and the lowest detectable concentration was achieved at 0.00008 nM. The incorporation of PAMAM dendrimer-based nanocomposite thin film with an SPR sensor exhibited a significant increase in sensitivity and binding affinity to a lower range DENV-2 E-protein concentrations. Moreover, the proposed sensor displayed good selectivity towards DENV-2 E-proteins and have an average recovery of 80-120%. The findings of this study demonstrated that PAMAM dendrimer-based nanocomposite thin film combined with SPR sensor is a promising diagnostic tool for sensitive and selective detection of DENV-2 E-proteins.

Abstract
In this study, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was used to study chitosan-graphene oxide (chitosan-GO) incorporated with 4-(2-pyridylazo)resorcinol (PAR) and cadmium sulfide quantum dot (CdS QD) composite thin films for the potential optical sensing of cobalt ions (Co2+). From the XPS results, it was confirmed that carbon, oxygen, and nitrogen elements existed on the PAR-chitosan-GO thin film, while for CdS QD-chitosan-GO, the existence of carbon, oxygen, cadmium, nitrogen, and sulfur were confirmed. Further deconvolution of each element using the Gaussian-Lorentzian curve fitting program revealed the sub-peak component of each element and hence the corresponding functional group was identified. Next, investigation using surface plasmon resonance (SPR) optical sensor proved that both chitosan-GO-based thin films were able to detect Co2+ as low as 0.01 ppm for both composite thin films, while the PAR had the higher binding affinity. The interaction of the Co2+ with the thin films was characterized again using XPS to confirm the functional group involved during the reaction. The XPS results proved that primary amino in the PAR-chitosan-GO thin film contributed more important role for the reaction with Co2+, as in agreement with the SPR results.

Abstract
In this study, highly functional cationically modified nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC)/carboxyl-functionalized graphene quantum dots (CGQD) has been described. The surface of NCC was first modified with hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTA) before combining with CGQD. The CGQD, CTA-NCC and CTA-NCC/CGQD nanocomposites thin films were prepared using spin coating technique. The obtained nanocomposite thin films were then characterized by using the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) which confirmed the existence of hydroxyl groups, carboxyl groups and alkyl groups in CTA-NCC/CGQD. The optical properties of the thin films were characterized using UV–Vis spectroscopy. The absorption of CTA-NCC/CGQD was high with an optical band gap of 4.127 eV. On the other hand, the CTA-NCC/CGQD nanocomposite thin film showed positive responses towards glucose solution of different concentration using an optical method based on surface plasmon resonance phenomenon. This work suggests that the novel nanocomposite thin film has potential for a sensing application in glucose detection.

Abstract
In this study, synthesis and characterization of chitosan/maghemite (Cs/Fe2O3) composites thin film has been described. Its properties were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis). FTIR confirmed the existence of Fe-O bond, C-N bond, C-C bond, C-O bond, O=C=O bond and O-H bond in Cs/Fe2O3 thin film. The surface morphology of the thin film indicated the relatively smooth and homogenous thin film, and also confirmed the interaction of Fe2O3 with the chitosan. Next, the UV-Vis result showed high absorbance value with an optical band gap of 4.013 eV. The incorporation of this Cs/Fe2O3 thin film with an optical-based method, i.e., surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy showed positive response where mercury ion (Hg2+) can be detected down to 0.01 ppm (49.9 nM). These results validate the potential of Cs/Fe2O3 thin film for optical sensing applications in Hg2+ detection.

Abstract
The modification of graphene quantum dots (GQDs) may drastically enhance their properties, therefore resulting in various related applications. This paper reported the preparation of novel cetyltrimethylammonium bromide/hydroxylated graphene quantum dots (CTAB/HGQDs) thin film using the spin coating technique. The properties of the thin film were then investigated and studied. The functional groups existing in CTAB/HGQDs thin film were confirmed by the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, while the atomic force microscope (AFM) displayed a homogenous surface of the thin film with an increase in surface roughness upon modification. Optical characterizations using UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy revealed a high absorption with an optical band gap of 4.162 eV. Additionally, the photoluminescence (PL) spectra illustrated the maximum emission peak of CTAB/HGQDs thin film at a wavelength of 444 nm. The sensing properties of the as-prepared CTAB/HGQDs thin film were studied using a surface plasmon resonance technique towards the detection of several heavy metal ions (HMIs) (Zn2+, Ni2+, and Fe3+). This technique generated significant results and showed that CTAB/HGQDs thin film has great potential for HMIs detection.

Great efforts have been devoted to the invention of environmental sensors as the amount of water pollution has increased in recent decades. Chitosan, cellulose and nanocrystalline cellulose are examples of biopolymers that have been intensively studied due to their potential applications, particularly as sensors. Furthermore, the rapid use of conducting polymer materials as a sensing layer in environmental monitoring has also been developed. Thus, the incorporation of biopolymer and conducting polymer materials with various methods has shown promising potential with sensitively and selectively toward heavy metal ions. In this feature paper, selected recent and updated investigations are reviewed on biopolymer and conducting polymer-based materials in sensors aimed at the detection of heavy metal ions by optical methods. This review intends to provide sufficient evidence of the potential of polymer-based materials as sensing layers, and future outlooks are considered in developing surface plasmon resonance as an excellent and valid sensor for heavy metal ion detection.

Abstract
In this study, the incorporation between gold modified-tyrosinase (Tyr) enzyme based graphene oxide (GO) thin film with surface plasmon resonance (SPR) technique has been developed for the detection of phenol. SPR signal for the thin film contacted with phenol solution was monitored using SPR technique. From the SPR curve, sensitivity, full width at half maximum (FWHM), detection accuracy (DA) and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) have been analyzed. The sensor produces a linear response for phenol up to 100 µM with sensitivity of 0.00193° µM-1. Next, it can be observed that deionized water has the lowest FWHM, with a value of 1.87° and also the highest value of DA. Besides, the SNR of the SPR signal was proportional to the phenol concentrations. Furthermore, the surface morphology of the modified thin film after exposed with phenol solution observed using atomic force microscopy showed a lot of sharp peaks compared to the image before in contact with phenol proved the interaction between the thin film and phenol.
