Abstract
Calcium fluoride (CaF₂) nanoparticles with various terbium (Tb) doping concentrations were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and alternating current (AC) impedance measurement. The original shape and structure of CaF₂ nanoparticles were retained after doping. In all the samples, the dominant charge carriers were electrons, and the F- ion transference number increased with increasing Tb concentration. The defects in the grain region considerably contributed to the electron transportation process. When the Tb concentration was less than 3%, the effect of the ionic radius variation dominated and led to the diffusion of the F- ions and facilitated electron transportation. When the Tb concentration was greater than 3%, the increasing deformation potential scattering dominated, impeding F- ion diffusion and electron transportation. The substitution of Ca2+ by Tb3+ enables the electron and ion hopping in CaF₂ nanocrystals, resulting in increased permittivity.

Abstract
The phosphors of Y2WO6:Bi3+, Ln3+ (Ln=Dy, Eu and Sm) were synthesized by solid-state reaction in this study. The crystal structure, photoluminescence properties and energy transfer mechanism were investigated. By introducing Bi3+ ions, the excitation band of the phosphors was broadened to be 250-380 nm, which could be absorbed by the dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The overlap between excitation of W-O groups/Bi3+ and the emission of Ln3+ (Dy, Eu, and Sm) indicated that the probability of energy transfer from W-O groups and Bi3+ to Ln3+. The energy transfer efficiency from Bi3+ to Ln3+ (Ln=Dy, Eu and Sm) are calculated to be 16%, 20% and 58%. This work suggested that Y2WO6:Bi3+, Ln3+ (Ln=Dy, Eu and Sm) might be a promising ultraviolet-absorbing luminescent converter to enhance the photoelectrical conversion efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs).

Abstract
The abrasion behavior of an epoxy/carbon nanotube (CNT) nanocomposite was investigated. An experimental setup has been established to perform abrasion, particle measurement, and collection all in one. The abraded particles were characterized by particle size distribution and by electron microscopy. The abrasion process was carried out with a Taber Abraser, and the released particles were collected by a tube for further investigation. The particle size distributions were measured with a scanning mobility particle sizer (SMPS) and an aerodynamic particle sizer (APS) and revealed four size modes for all measured samples. The mode corresponding to the smallest particle sizes of 300-400 nm was measured with the SMPS and showed a trend of increasing size with increasing nanofiller content. The three measured modes with particle sizes from 0.6 to 2.5 μm, measured with the APS, were similar for all samples. The measured particle concentrations were between 8000 and 20,000 particles/cm(3) for measurements with the SMPS and between 1000 and 3000 particles/cm(3) for measurements with the APS. Imaging by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed that free-standing individual CNTs and agglomerates were emitted during abrasion.

Abstract
Europium-doped LaF3 nanoparticles have been prepared by the ionic reaction in the ethanol at 60 degrees C. From the XRD pattern of nanoparticles and the emission spectra of Eu3+ ions, it has been concluded that the Eu3+ ions could easily substitute the La3+ sites and the solid solution La(1-x)Eu(x)F3 can be synthesized. Due to very low phonon energies of LaF3 matrix, the 5D1 emission of Eu3+ ions in La(1-x)Eu(x)F3 nanoparticles can be observed at room temperature when doping concentration of Eu3+ ions is lower than 30 mol%. The quenching process of 5D1 emission can be attributed to cross-relaxation. Since clusters of Eu3+ ions and resonance energy transfer only occurs within one particle due to the hindrance by the particle boundary, the concentration quenching resulted from resonance energy transfer between neighboring Eu3+ ions occurs at higher Eu3+ concentrations in the Eu3+ doped LaF3 nanoparticles.
